If you need to borrow money, Home Equity Credit Lines can be one of the options available to you. This Line of Credit Home Equity is a loan granted to the borrower with his home as collateral. Home Equity per say is the difference between the worth of your property and the amount you owe on your mortgage.

Of late many people are opting for Home Equity Lines of Credit because of its ease of acquisition and flexibility. If you use the equity of your home as collateral in a loan, you have access to a large pool of funds which you can use to expand existing business or undertake a new one whilst still owing your home. If you negotiate well, you can obtain Line of Credit Home Equity far exceeding the current price of your home. Again, you have the advantage over other kinds of borrowed funds because you enjoy low interest here. The biggest advantage for Home Equity for small businesses owners especially is that the interest on Home Equity Credit Lines is treated as tax deductible. This simply means you can take out the interest payments as an expense before you declare profits, thus leaving you with more money as net income.

Line of Credit Home Equity is the best option for a business with homes which needs long term capital. As the homes increase in value, the loan interest decreases in value with the effect that businesses gain over the long term.

Home Equity loans need to be contracted with great care. Look around for the best plan or terms so you don't risk defaulting on the loan. If you default on the loan, your home may be foreclosed. Foreclosure is the process of offsetting a debt with the sale of a borrower's home. The forced sale comes about because you have irreversibly used the home as collateral in the agreement and have authorized the lender to take over the house in the event you are unable to pay up on the interests.

When it comes to using your home as collateral for a loan, there are two major options: Home Equity Line of Credit and a Home Equity loan.

Home Equity Lines of Credit are used for any kind of expense at all such as home improvements, educational and medical expenses and small business expenses. You make monthly payments at varied interest rates. If you are not the type that worries about changing payments and interest rates, then you may go for this option.

On the contrary, Home Equity loans gives you access to funds which need to be expended in a lump sum such as the expenses in connection with buying a new car or starting a new business. In this type of loan, interest payments are fixed. If you want a predictable payment, then this is the option for you.

In Summary...

Home Equity Credit Lines have helped many businesses and individuals get access to large pools of funds for business expansion or acquisition of another home. This ease of access must be balanced with the fact that persistent default in payments can result in the loss of your home.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
is access general auto insurance any good?

    • ANSWER:
Yes they are as good as the rest, in that they give you coverage and if/when liable, they pay for the damage.

  2. QUESTION:
AUTO INSURANCE AND CREDIT REPORTS, What does one have to do with the other?
Does any one but me think its bull that one can be refused auto insurance or pay a higher premium because their credit score may be lower than some other guys. Why on earth are we letting car insurance companies get buy with this? Even auto insurance companies having access to our creit history makes no sence and is a further invasion of our privacy. This practice should be outlawed.
Again what does credit score and auto insurance have to do with each other?
    kendrickflorida
A credit score is not based on just weather one has paid his bills or even on time. I for example probably have 40 different credit avenues. I owe lots of money to everyone but these accounts have been active 20 to 25 years, I have never been late for even one payment in all those years. I have the same auto insurance company now at 49 and started when I was 16 so thats 33 years. they have the ordassity to say to me that your credit score is lower than say Bill Gates so you will have to pay more even though you have been our customer for 33 years and are a good driver and had no claims. you think you get the same rate as bill gates? probably not. Again I say what does car insurance have to do with Credit score.

    • ANSWER:
You are correct, many insurance companies are indeed checking credit reports and refusing people, or charging more for those whose credit isn't good.

Personally, I think this practice should be outlawed. I don't believe that bad credit makes someone more likely to file a claim, or a fraudulent claim. This was the claim the industry used to get permission to do that.

It's also become a common practice to run a credit check for a job too!

So..you get a little behind on your bills and what happens? First your interest rates rise, then your car insurance goes up, then you can't get a better job.

How the heck are you supposed to get out of the hole if they keep piling dirt on the sides so the hole gets deeper!

Good news may be on the front - There is already a lawsuit in CA challenging the credit issue as discriminatory towards minorities who are more likely to have poor scores. State Farm has already stopped checking credit in that state. If we can see more suits filed, maybe this issue will go away.

      Grrr.....
you've touched on a pet peeve!

Oh..and you don't really have to give everyone your social security number. Only businesses that are tax related, like your employer, your bank and investment companies. Technically you can refuse to give it to anyone else, including credit card companies and lenders, but they then have the right to refuse to do business with you. Again..maybe if more people resist, change will happen.

  7. QUESTION:
I just moved from Massachusetts to California. Will my auto insurance/accident history get transfered?
I have heard that Massachusetts insurance companies are typically independent of California insurance companies. As a consequence, California insurance companies wont have access to my records in Mass. This would mean that my old claims/history won't affect my new insurance policy in California. Can someone tell me if this true.

    Thanks

    • ANSWER:
      Short answer: Yes it will.

Long Answer: CLUE stands for Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange, which is run by ChoicePoint Inc. in Atlanta. It maintains a claims database that insurance companies use to decide who gets auto and homeowners insurance and how much they pay.

When it comes to auto reports, claims related to your vehicle or to your address show up on your CLUE report even if they have nothing to do with you. ChoicePoint says it encourages insurance companies to verify the information.

If you plan to insurance shop, consider ordering your CLUE report ahead of time so you won't be surprised as I was and will have a chance to correct errors. As I found out, you only need to order one report for your whole household. You can order over the Internet (www.choicepoint.com or www.consumerdisclosure.com) if you were denied insurance or by calling 1-866-527-2600. You might want to check your credit report too if you haven't recently, since many insurance companies also rely on it in setting rates.

These questions can also be answered by a qualified insurance agent. I would suggest going to a free service such as: http://www.insureme.com/landing.aspx?Refby=614498&Type=auto. It’s a web site that offers insurance information & information on policies nationwide. It also gives you the option to call local agents to get any of your questions answered. This service is 100% free and you are not obligated to buy anything. It is simply a way to get insurance information and be able to instantly compare rates in your area to find the best price/coverage.

  8. QUESTION:

  9. QUESTION:
Need auto insurance...please help for insurance agents?
My auto insurance will not be renewed due to a very bad judgment on my part (I own my mistakes) My car was stolen when I loaned it to my ex-boyfriend' in Mexico.....I freaked out and 'lied' about where the car was stolen from. The car was found by my ex-boyfriend a few days later and I notified my insurance; I told them the truth what happened owing to my lie and I dropped the clam. They are not renewing my insurance stating that I am 'high risk' My question is this....will I be able to get other insurance? I have NO tickets, accidents, no claims, no bad driver record anything. I am STILL covered now and seeking other insurance, does the new insurance have access to what the old insurance said? Again, I have coverage until the end of Jan. '09, and nothing else wrong EVER although I know what I did was very wrong.....I just freaked out. Please help....thanks

    • ANSWER:
Well, the insurance company is correct. You are now considered a "high risk" because of a moral hazard. Meaning you lied to the insurance company for compensation. You cannot be denied insurance. All states have a mandatory insurance plan. If you're denied insurance coverage by 3 insurers in your state you'll be set up in the insurance plan. It's an organization that accepts high risk insureds. The premium is usually much higher though. Since you have a clean driving record you should be able to find another insurance carrier no problem. Insurance companies pull your prior insurance and loss history information by a nationwide database. It only shows your prior insurance and liability limits and claims made. The claim you made will show up but it'll show a [FAQ-ANSWER] payout so it should not be held against you. Don't stress, you're fine

  10. QUESTION:
Where can I access my personal driving record?
I need to know my driving record to get an auto insurance quote. Where can I access this?

I do not want to pay. Is there any way to get the information needed for an auto quote?

    • ANSWER:
The Ins. Co can pull that up on their system with just your dr.license number.

  11. QUESTION:
Why do freelancers, part-timers, small-business owners get easier access to car insurance than health?
Most of the people I know who want to work part time or work freelance don't do it because they are afraid of the cost of private health insurance or they could be outright denied due to a pre-existing condition, so they keep their office jobs.

What I don't get is why is it easy for part-timers and freelancers to get auto insurance, renter's insurance, pet insurance, etc. when they are not part of the regular, corporate, full-time workforce. Shouldn't we make it so that employers are responsible for all forms of insurance and that without a work pool, car insurance can run someone 1,300 per month, thus necessitating getting a job with a company to get the pooled risk discount? Why don't we do the same thing with other forms of insurance that we do with health insurance, make it the responsibility of the employer, pool the risk, and make it difficult for people who are not part of the normal, corporate workforce to afford or access these other forms of insurance. It would keep people in jobs if all the insurance were tied to it and they knew that they could lose their car insurance and not be able to get another affordable policy if they were to go it privately!

    • ANSWER:
Allstate can offer identical policies in all states for auto coverage, thus increasing the size of the risk pool considerably. Health insurers are bound by state health insurance legislation to offer plans that comply. For the most part, a company can't offer identical plans across state lines so the risk pool is much smaller than the pool available to auto insurers. This has quite a bit to do with the difference in cost. The fact that auto insurance doesn't cover oil, gas, tires or tune-ups is another huge factor that causes it to be cheaper than health coverage that pays for our every sniffle. High deductible private health insurance is quite affordable, even if it's not purchased through an employer.

  12. QUESTION:
If my auto insurance claim was denied due to no evidence of forcible entry but there was physical damage?
can i now put in a claim for Vandalism. since they wont cover the theft. all of my windows were busted out including front and back windshields. my radio and center console taken out. the reason i was giving for being denied was forcible entry was not required to gain access to my car. how is that when all windows are busted
thanks for your response oklatom i will love to ask them but they are very nasty when talking with them. but i will file a complaint

    • ANSWER:
That will be a question to ask your insurance, not us. Yes, logically a broken window should be a sign of forced entry, but us saying that won't help a bit. Appeal the decision they made. If they won't budge on it, file a complaint with the insurance commission in your location.

  13. QUESTION:
    Auto Insurance Question?
If I was in an auto accident and all the information I was able to get from this person was the policy number on his insurance card, how do I go about filing a claim. I called the insurance company but they refused to help me because I didn't have the person's name. Can they not access this information by pulling up the policy number?

    • ANSWER:
There is a minimum of information you must get.
      1) The person must show you their drivers license
      2) If they refuse you get the license plate number and model and make of the car and then call the police. They write up a report

People regularly get insurance for a month or so to get the insurance card and then stop paying their policy and then have no insurance which is against the law.

If you have the license plate number and a policy number, you should go to the police. It sound like you made a serious mistake by not insisting on seeing his drivers license or getting his license plate. That is required by law.

  14. QUESTION:
    Auto Insurance claims questions?
I was in an auto accident a few days ago and the other driver was at fault. His insurance company is Geico. I have been dealing with a claims adjuster for Geico who says I must have my vehicle evaluated by a Geico adjuster to determine the amount of damages. I am ok with that but I have noticed that they keep pressuring me to have my car repaired with the Geico adjuster they use to access damages. I know that I have the right to choose where I want my repairs done and I plan to go that route. When I told this to the adjuster, again they went on about the benefits of using their people. I plan to go to a place of my choice and need the insurance company to pay for a rental car. When I told this to the case manager she said that I would have to arrange contact between her and the place I choose to verify that parts are in and that they can start and finish the service on what they say is the estimated time for repair. Does that sound right (the rental car thing)? Also, why do I feel like the insurance company is pressuring me to use their people? I would really like some insight into how to handle this problem with the auto insurance people? Please only answer if you have experience with this kind of situation. Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
That's why it's always better to settle under your own insurance company.

But anyway, they are trying to get you to go to one of their approved shops, because their company requires them to offer it. It seems ridiculous, I know, but the company I work for requires us to offer certain things first. Now, don't think I'm trying to sell you on this (I don't work for Geico), but there are benefits to going to one of their approved shops: if there is additional damage and a supplemental payment is needed, the shop takes care of all that for you, and it is quicker, because they can pay electronically to the shop. If you need rental, the shop will coordinate that for you and communicate directly with the rental agency. Also, most insurance approved shops have some sort of guarantee on workmanship, so if you're not happy with the work, the insurance will make sure the shop makes good on the repairs. If you go to a shop of your choice, you don't have that guarantee.

Ultimately though, you can go to your shop of choice, and they can't do a darn thing about it. Just stand your ground, and tell them you have a shp of choice. As far as the rental goes, the insurance company will only start paying for your rental when the shop is actually ready to start repairs, meaning that parts have to be there, ready to be put on. That's why they have to verify this with the shop. It's pretty standard insurance procedure.

  15. QUESTION:
Auto insurance: why do they want to check my credit report?
I wanted to shop around for auto insurance to make sure I wasn't over-paying, however they all want to check my credit report. I have great credit but that's not the point, I feel it's a privacy issue, my credit report has nothing to do with my driving!!! I will most likely keep my current insurance company and pay a little more just for the principle.
Is there any auto insurance left that doesn't invade your privacy anymore?
Doesn't that bother anybody else that companies have the "right" to access your credit report just because they want use any excuses to raise your premiums?

    • ANSWER:
When insurance sets rates, it's a matter of risk and statistics. If you're over 40, married, own a house, work at a white collar job, and have good credit you are a better risk than a 20 year old in construction who sky dives as a hobby (risk taker) and doesn't pay his bills.

So that's part of the reason. The other part is are they going to let you pay monthly, or demand full payment up front, and your credit report tells that story too.

Statistically, those with poor credit are more likely to not maintain their cars, leading to accidents and claims.

  16. QUESTION:
What to do about auto insurance policies...?
My husband has auto ins. w/Geico but he recently left for deployment. Since I'm not on the policy yet at Geico I know I have to send in the Power of Attorney to even have access of any information or to make pymts, ect.
I also know that once you are married most or all auto insurance companies require that the husband and wife are on the same policy. I was told that if I am already covered w/another auto insurance company then all I have to do is send something in to Gieco.
I am still listed w/my parents' auto ins. coverage w/ USAA b/c they still have the title of the car & stuff that I'm driving in their name(s). But I give them $ for all the pymts (trying to get all that changed to my name if I can) Even if I am still listed w/them, I'm still covered for everything so could I just get a copy of the insurance and registration for my car and give that to Geico then be on the same policy with my husband and not get charged for it. Or what exactly would I have to do?

    • ANSWER:
Call Geico without giving them too much detail, give them your husband's insurance policy number and ask how much it would cost to add you to the policy. That's a normal thing for married people to do and should not be any problem. After all, you've had insurance through USAA for a while. They'll be happy to add you to the policy for a few hundred dollars a year.

  17. QUESTION:
    Anybody have Geico Auto Insurance?
I have Progressive and I'm really happy with them but Geico is much less expensive. What I like about Progressive is that they are easy to deal with and I can access all my information and pay my bill online. Has anybody had any experience with Geico? How have they been if you had a claim? Do they respond quickly when you report a claim? Do they have a website where you can access all the information about your claims and policies or pay your bill?
Sammy: I have had only 2 insurance companies, American Family and Progressive. American Family treated me like I am an idiot and took almost 3 years to settle a claim for something that wasn't my fault. Maybe my expectations are low, I'm not sure but Progressive has decent customer service and I got a check in a couple for both of my comprehensive claims I had with them. My main concern is how long it is going to take to settle a claim with an insurance company since that is what they're there for.

    • ANSWER:
I've had Geico for approx 10 years and had a claim last April. They were more than helpful and even got me my deductible reimbursed from the other driver since he was at fault. You can pay your bills on line, make changes to your account, plus they also have auto pay, where they automatically take the premium out of your checking account which is what I do. I recommend them!

  18. QUESTION:
Any way to lower my NJ auto insurance quote?
Hi All. I was hit by a car 2 years ago and lost my leg just above the knee. I was deathly afraid of auto travel for a long time and worked in NYC, so no big deal. Now I have a job being offered to me in northern NJ and need a car to get to work. I priced out policies for an old F-150 I have access to and when answering truthfully about my involvement in the accident, the rates shot up like crazy.

Being that I was struck my the car and not the one charged with anything, do I have to claim this?

    Thanks,
    CT

    • ANSWER:
It might not simply be a result of the accident, especially if you were not liable.

If you haven't had insurance coverage continuously, your rates will be higher.

You live in NYC, your rates will be higher than in NJ.

If you don't own the car you're driving, the rates will be higher.

They'll run your license and know that you've been in an accident, so there's no use lying.

Take a safe driving course, join a club that gives you a bit of a discount, and ask for a rate reduction after 1 year.

  19. QUESTION:
Insurance adjuster questions auto claim releasing medical employment records?
We were hit by a drunk driver insured by State Farm. We had medical treatment for about 3 weeks totalling about 00 each. Now we are trying to settle with the adjuster who is less then ethical in my opinion. He did all sorts of "say one thing do another" type of things so far.

He phoned me last week to tell me he was going to send a form requesting our medical records for the hospital visit only as he has all the records for the followup care. Keep in mind, jst the hospital.

What a I received in the mail was a form to allow this adjuster all of our entire medical history AND our entire employment history! Since we are self employeed, there was no loss of employeed work time, but my business dealiongs were placed on hold. I was in the process of remodeling my home for sale and this had to be put off for a month due to injuries.

I am not comfortable with this slimy adjuster having access to all this information he does not need. Why are they asking for it?

    • ANSWER:
This is standard procedure -- release of medical records will speed up your settlement. ALL companies do this and the sooner you decide to work WITH the insurance adjuster the sooner you will get this behind you -- unless, of course, you have a prior medical condition that you are trying to cover up.....

  20. QUESTION:
Can I sue an auto insurance company for not having good security regarding personal info?
What happen was i got a call that payment was due. I always get a call and make the payment by phone. This time i got another call for my payment. Their records show I did not pay. Once I told them I had already paid they looked through their records and it showed that I did not make a payment. They asked for a conformation number to check who made my transaction and it turns out it was phony.

Now i got robbed from 50 dollars. Luckily I had overdrawn from my back account so now they can not withdraw anymore money.

What I think is that one of the workers had access to my information (my phone number and my usual balance), used it to make a phony phone call and stole my debit card number.

Can the company be sued for what happened?
What steps should I take to ensure that my identity and money is safe?
I am always called to remind me that my payment is due. They ask if i want to make a payment right then and i always do. I never had a problem with this.

do you have to go to basics to before you can receive benefits such as health and auto insurance?
ok well i wont go to basics until january...so does that mean i wont receive any benifits until then?

    • ANSWER:
You do not receive benefits immediately if you sign up under the delayed entry program. Most recruits when they sign up now they sign up under the delayed entry program.

Once you sign the final paperwork at MEPS and leave to go to Basic Training you will start receiving benefits such as health and dental care. You are on your own when it comes to auto insurance.

  22. QUESTION:
I tried to get a quote on auto insurance and got this error message from them.............? Frozen credit?
So I got this error:We are unable to provide you with an insurance quote at this time because you have placed a security freeze on your credit file. This freeze prohibits all third parties, including Progressive Direct, from accessing your credit information without your permission. In order to receive a quote, please contact the credit reporting agency (CRA) that you instructed to freeze your credit report, and ask them to temporarily lift the freeze. We value your business, so please revisit our site to retrieve your insurance quote once the credit file freeze has been lifted.

I've never frozen anything! Please help?!

    • ANSWER:
Are you using some credit protection company like Life Lock? Many times those companies put freezes on credit files to prevent access, thus reducing identity theft and junk credit offers.

  23. QUESTION:
Why does insurance company want 10 years of medical records after auto accident? Can they use this against me?
I was recently in an auto accident and sustained minor soft tissue injuries. I was told it was cervical sprain and a rib out, although I'm still not exactly sure how that is possible. Anyway, the insurance company wants me to sign a paper allowing them access to the past 10 years of medical records. Is this normal and should I sign this? I'm almost 40 and have had back issues unrelated to this accident for a while. This accident just tweaked things and made my neck and one side of my back hurt again. Will they try to not pay and say that since I've had back issues due to scoliosis for some time, maybe the accident didn't cause this? I'm just really afraid that if I sign something, they will find a way to use it against me. Any advice?

    • ANSWER:
They are asking you to sign a medical authorization which allows them to get copies of your medical records. If you don't sign it you aren't going to get paid a dime on your injury claim.

Obtaining the prior medical records is standard procedure and has been allowed by courts for decades. The insurance company has a legit right to see if you have had any prior injuries to the areas that were injured in this current accident. Prior injuries can certainly affect the amount you will be paid, but not always.

The company will review the records and ask your doctor or "an independent doctor" (who really isn't independent) to write an opinion about if your prior injuries or medical conditions made it more likely for you to be hurt in the car accident. Having prior injuries or medical conditions doesn't automatically mean your claim will denied without payment, but it can mean that you won't get as much as money as you would have without the prior stuff.

  24. QUESTION:

    • ANSWER:
Sounds like you should let them do it and be open and honest with them. You should have nothing to hide, and if you have an injury from this accident they should pay for it.

  25. QUESTION:
Any options w/ insurance co if auto repairs are extraordinarily long?
Nov 2008 bad guys broke into my home at 4am and stole my 09 cayenne. I had the car a week. Police figured they followed me from the dealership.

Any way the car was located under an hour later (Boomerang). Being unable to find the transmitter the b*stards performed k in spite damage.

The car was flat bedded to porsche around Dec 1. Porsche gave me a Jan 30 finish date, then pushed it to Feb 10, now Feb 17.

Here's the meat: while the damage is nowhere near even 50% (but seeing how I'm paying on a car I'm not driving) would I have any rights w/ SF Insurance to claim this car a total loss insofar it's taking nearly 3 months to fix the f'ing car?

Are there an precedents where an extraordinary length of repair time somehow equates to a total loss? How long is actionable?

You have no recourse due to the long time to repair.

The dealer should have made a COMPLETE list of parts needed and ordered them immediately.

You should get a rental on your policy next time you renew.

  26. QUESTION:
    GL insurance problem any advice?
At the begin of my policy the info was input wrong
My premium was low I got audit and my amount owe is 000
I signed and it my mistake for not having knowledge in this field or for trusting my the agent
Well I am trying to correct the mistake so I won’t pay. But my agent won’t help
Someone with Insurance knowledge gave me advice to request some items. I got the original policy I cant get the info the auditor sent the insurance co.
I have called the auditor he said they should give it to my agent. My agent tells me to call. But I do not have access they want the agent. How can I fight him sue him or what
The payment is due on the 16th with payments of 3000$ I have gone to his office and he has no info to help me with this problem he just tells me to pay if the numbers up front would have been correct I would have never got the policy. Can this be fraud in anyway they can input info incorrect dress it up and later come at you with high amounts. Also the total I gave the auditor do not match my payroll if I were to just pay for them like employees the amounts do not add. I also comment to him that the company did work outside of the policy. We did a job for a college (student housing government provides everything did not have to use or GL, AUTO Insurance. We got paid under my Co. to report it IRS. It’s in the payroll does it count. The agent tells me its still counts. To do work with any co
Like David Weekly, Trendmaker, Lennar we need additional insured and certificate. If they were cover they would of issued them a certificate. Should I call a lawyer in what field?

    • ANSWER:
Well, if there's any fraud, it's on YOUR part, not the agent's part.

"The company worked outside the policy". That sounds like you were working under a wraparound policy - and it's up to YOU to do the accouting for that. If you didn't maintain seperate payroll/receipts for that job, it's YOUR fault, not your agent's.

A lawyer isn't going to help you. The agent, well, that's a problem - you can tell him, hey, sit down with me and show me the numbers, in writing, so I don't have to file a complaint with the insurance department. The auditor is right, this is the AGENT'S job. You can complain to the carrier, and to the TX Insurance Commissioner, about the agent not doing his job explaining the audit to you.

But none of this is going to save you any money - these additional premiums are still due, with maybe the exception of the wraparound job. But if you didn't keep seperate records, then that's still due, as well. Think of it as a learning curve tax.

  27. QUESTION:
Are Health Insurance Providers legally required to provide up to date health policy documentation?
My auto insurance company sends me a pamphlet every term detailing exactly what I'm paying for and what my insurance plan covers.

Aetna has been giving me the run around and has been telling me they don't need to send me any documentation because they have a "brocure" online which everyone can access.

This would be acceptable except that their most recent and up to date brocure is not available through their website even though I have been told that my policy has changed.

I'm getting fed up, and I'm curious if anyone knows how the law works in this area. Are Health Insurance Providers not legally obligated to notify their clients when and how their coverage has been altered?

  28. QUESTION:
Why was Hillary against mandated Health Insurance in 1994 and for it in 2008?
Read the following quote from Hillary Clinton in 1994, In it she states that Mandated healthcare coverage leaves millions uninsured. However she has never stated as such during the campaign. Why was Hillary against mandated Health Insurance in 1994 and for it in 2008?

'The only examples we have of individual mandates are those like auto insurance requirements in many states where, in spite of the fact that the state has access to all drivers through the licensing process, literally thousands and even hundreds of thousands of drivers remain uninsured in states with such an individual mandate.'
Although 47 states mandate that everyone have Auto insurance, almost 15 percent of drivers do not.
Not Me - What's so different between 1994 and 2008 when it comes to Universal Healthcare coverage.
Noah H - Are you aware of the origination of Hillary's current healthcare plan? It was proposed by Republican Senator John Chafee in 1994.
Misty1949 - Where are my facts wrong. I read half of the article that you posted and saw nothing that conflicts with my statement. The facts are clear, Hillary did not support a Mandated healthcare plan when she worked so hard to come up with a "universal" healthcare plan in 1994, yet now she does.

  29. QUESTION:
Access to my driver's license record?
I was involved in a car accident in December 2007 and it was my fault. At that time I didn't have auto insurance, plus I didn't have driver's license so they send me to a collection agency (Credit Collection Services) to pay 00 for all the expenses. They put me in a payment plan of less than 0 a month but for some reason, I missed one payment. Now they want me to pay the full amount, or make another arrangement in which I have to make a down payment of ,200 in less than 10 days and the monthly payments increased to 0/mo. That's insane!!! I've already got my license. My question is: If I don't pay that amount, can they have access to my driver's license record and suspend it?
These guys told me in the beginning that the debt was ,300. The next day when I was going to make the first monthly payment, they told me that the debt was ,000. Their excuse was that "maybe" the other party was injured and had to go to the doctor. I don't believe that. It wasn't that bad. Actually, the car that I hit didn't happen nothing to it nor the passenger.

    • ANSWER:
Pay the amount you owe in full. They attempted to set you up in a payment plan with payments of under 0 a month, and you didn't follow through. Find somewhere you can borrow the money, and pay it off.

If you hadn't been driving without a license and insurance you wouldn't be in this mess, so you have no one to blame but yourself.

  30. QUESTION:
Why do people value material things over their health?
You pay for home owner's or renter's insurance to protect your home.

You pay for auto insurance to protect your car.

You pay for various service warranties; such as tires, electronics, and appliances.

You likely have a cell phone, computer with internet access, and hit up the McDonald's drive-thru at least once a week.

You buy name brand clothes, new cars, and Wii's for your kids.

But, over 40 million of you do not have health insurance. Why?

Why is your health being put behind these material things?
Why should the rest of us have to pay for YOUR health simply because you failed to set your priorities in life?

    • ANSWER:
Go to any ghetto in the US. Look at one of the buildings in the projects.
Within about 20 minutes you can calculate the number of families and apartments in the building.
Now go to the south side of the building.
You will see that the sattelite dishes out number the apartments by a factor of 2.8.

  31. QUESTION:
    Selling insurance question?
What license/certification does one need to sell and distribute insurance such as home owners, auto, life insurance etc. in the state of Wisconsin. And what schooling if any would someone need to obtain these licenses and or certifications. My grandfather and a friend own a agency that affiliates with another independent agency that allows them access to a large variety of insurers, and they would like me to become apart of business.

    • ANSWER:
You go to the Wisconsin Insurance Department website, and it will tell you. You DO need a license, to sell insurance, in WI.

Since grandfather owns an agency, he should be able to walk you through the process.

  32. QUESTION:
Can I fire my personal injuryl awyer/hire new one without cost if he has not seemed aggressive enough?
I was a pedestrian/struck by a car, sustaining injuries serious injuries that have since become disabling. I have lost my job and have sustained financial losses. My attorney (after 2 years). The driver was sited and my attorney speculates that she has no net worth (lives in apt., owns no real estate and works for the public school system). He says that the max allowable is whatever her auto ins. covers (or what our auto ins. policy is--whichever is greater). Is this true. He filed suit and didn't tell us til several days later. He tried to have me collect all my medical records for him and later sought my consent to allow the driver's auto insurance to have open access/secure whatever medical records of mine they may want. He set an amount for the suit without consulting us, but based on his speculations. Are these grounds to fire him? The statute of limitations (2 years in our state) ran out last month which is why he filed suit the day prior.

    • ANSWER:
Well, you have the right to fire your lawyer and retain any other counsel you wish.

But I'd bet that the retainer agreement you signed with your lawyer states that he is entitled to a percentage of your recovery even if you fire him. That means that, while you're entitled to a different lawyer, you'll probably end up paying attorneys twice before taking your share.

It sounds to me as though your lawyer's opinions about the case are accurate and his actions are reasonable although I can't be sure. Turning over your medical records is something you'll have to do in a lawsuit. The amount you sue for is usually just a made up number with no relationship to anything. (In my state, you don't even put an amount in the complaint anymore.)

It sounds like your real problem is one of communication. You should have a good relationship with your lawyer and should be able to speak with him at length until you understand his advice. If you don't trust your lawyer, something's wrong. My advice is to call your lawyer and say just that: I don't understand what you're doing and I don't trust you. Ask him to sit with you and explain everything that is happening. Then have a consultation with another personal injury lawyer to see if what you were told makes sense.

If your lawyer communicates with you appropriately, I'm sure you'll feel a lot better and the entire process will end up being much easier for you.

looking for a database to discover an insurance policy and liability limits to file claim for injured person?
we represent injured plaintiffs who need money before settlement with an insurance company occurs. Due to the extensive time period it takes an attorney to demand through court proof of insurance and the amount of coverage, we are looking to expedite the process in order to assist our clients who if insurance coverage was confirmed on a property or a auto etc., could have access to a portion of the antisipated recovery now vs. waiting months for the discovery process to produce the insurance ploicy.

Choicepoint has such information which is only available to the insurance industry but this information is in thier database and we have spent an exhustive search looking for any source that would produce this service at a per occurance fee and have found nothing available.

      Hi,
There have been additional problems for the past 24 hours or longer but read on please for information that might help you.
Thousands are having all kinds of problems with their mail since the new format, with Server Farm issues with Original Mail AND Beta Mail , several months back now!
Yahoo! and Sun Java are also having conflicts. Rather than trying to work around them, here is the easy and fastest way to cure them (for most). Go to Tools, open Internet Options, and select Advance tab. Scroll down the list and see if you have Microsoft Virtual Machine listed, if so, uncheck the 2 java’s listed. Make sure JIT is checked, click apply then ok. and then Close. This lets MSN virtual machine launch Yahoo! mail. I reccomend that you use Original Mail until beta works out the bugs. FYI, beta means TESTING. Go back to IE6 which works just fine and is problem free. It is still installed on your pc. If you are using Yahoo Mail Plus, and your server farm has problems, switch to the free service until things are worked out.
      If not:
You will have less problems with Mail if you sign in via Messenger! Go to preferences, general, then check box: Automatically sign me in when I click a Yahoo! link in Messenger. Then click on the little envelope icon on top of messenger box. Or go to My Yahoo and click on your mail link. Or click on the Big RED Y! on the Yahoo! Toolbar. Bottom line is any link that already has you signed in!!!
NOTE: Use beta software at your own risk; it is intended for testing and evaluation purposes only. Do not install beta software on your primary computer or production environment.

  35. QUESTION:
commercial insurance on a small business, how much per month?
I have a small private transportation company. I offer flat rates to customers to take them to the airport. I call my service a shuttle but I use a large SUV to carry people not one of those huge buses. Anyway, in order to access the "Authorized Vehicles" area in the airport, the airport wants million in commercial auto coverage. ugh! I am a Small business what are the chances of getting insured??? I am not a taxi service and I only get a few calls each week. I am in Northern Nevada if that helps

    • ANSWER:
You're NOT going to find an insurance company willing to sell you coverage 'by the month". I've sold this type of insurance before (and, btw, airports usually require you to carry HEFTY limits of liability coverage to drive on lot usually ,000,000, so you're getting off easy at mm), and carrying passengers for a fee coverage, is the MOST EXPENSIVE type of insurance you can have (outside of ambulances).

You CAN get insured. But you're GOING to end up with your state facility auto pool, reinsurance pool, assigned risk pool, whatever it's called in your state, and you're GOING to have to pay the full year up front.

For liability ONLY coverage, it's probably going to cost ,000 a year, assuming you've got a spotless driving record and are over 25. If you need physical damage (if you have a loan on that SUV), it's going to be five figures, easy.

It doesn't matter if you do it one time a year, or one time an hour, the rate is the same.

  36. QUESTION:
I got in an auto accident, need advise.?
OK, on late september of 08 i got in an auto accident. I was getting off work it was late already and i was almost home. Im going on a 45 MPH road and i have a green light. As im crossing the intersection some guy did not stop on his red light and hits me going easily 45 MPH on my right side of my car. The car is totaled and if I would have had a passenger that person would have been severely injured or mabie dead just so you can have an idea how hard this guy hit me. Police came and evrything the guy recieved a ticket for not stopping and i did not recieve a ticket at all. I eaven had a witness on the police report. Now my dad told me to still go to the hospital just incase. so the hospital bill came up to like 700 total. My dad said the guys insurance has to take care of the bill. So I haved talked to the guys insurance and its like it seems like they dont want to pay its hard to get a hold of them. Im not the type of persons who likes to sue but its getting annoying getting bills from the hospital and telling me i will go to collections if i dont pay. The guys insurance say they will pay and that they will send me a check that they do not pay the hspital directly. Im just really annoyed by all this its been almost 4 months and im tired of wasting my time being on hold for 30 minutes each time i call them just so it leads me to their voice mail only. I dont want no money back I dont need them to give me money, I just want them to pay the bill thats it im not asking for more. Why shouold I pay a bill when I was not at fault? Im thinking of getting a lawyer is this a good idea what should I do? I have never been in this situation so any advise will be very helpful thank you.

This guys insurance is called American Access Casualty Company located in Chicago. From reviews I have seen online they are not the best on handling situations like this.

  37. QUESTION:
How is Obama not a fascist?
Obama took control of the banks, insurance, auto, ect

Under fascism, the state, through official cartels, controlled all aspects of manufacturing, commerce, finance, and agriculture. Planning boards set product lines, production levels, prices, wages, working conditions, and the size of firms. Licensing was ubiquitous; no economic activity could be undertaken without government permission. Levels of consumption were dictated by the state, and “excess” incomes had to be surrendered as taxes or “loans.” The consequent burdening of manufacturers gave advantages to foreign firms wishing to export. But since government policy aimed at autarky, or national self-sufficiency, protectionism was necessary: imports were barred or strictly controlled, leaving foreign conquest as the only avenue for access to resources unavailable domestically. Fascism was thus incompatible with peace and the international division of labor—hallmarks of liberalism.

    • ANSWER:
      Um...

HE IS A FASCIST. Liberalism leads to a fascist nanny state. So Libs can cry all day about how Obama is a "man of the people" if that helps them sleep at night.

  38. QUESTION:
Is it legal (in the US) to have multiple insurance policies (from multiple providers) on one car?
I've seen a few members (likely potential fraudsters) ask this question, with most of the members providing conflicting responses: it's illegal or it's allowed. One guy mentioned a national database that would catch these multiple policies on one car. From any of you savvy lil yahoo answerers in the insurance biz, I'd like to know 1) the name of the database and name of the managing company, 2) how much information is shared between insurance competitors (e.g. just the VIN, or does it include customer info, policy limits, and cover types), 3) who can access this database (e.g. individuals or just insurance agents/companies), and 4) what kinds of insurance does it include (e.g. just auto, or the entire gamut).

    • ANSWER:
No it is not legal. In fact in the policy language of most companies it states that if an auto is found to have another insurance policy that could potentially cover an incident, there would be NO coverage from the original policy. Therefore Company A finds that Comanpy B has coverage in place on Car C. A will inform B and since there are two policies both companies have the right to deny claim.

  39. QUESTION:
    Medical Record Questions (Long Read)?
I do not fully understand medical records in the U.S. My basic understanding is that they keep a history of medical problems that we've had throughout our lives. I have a few questions regarding this:

    1) Do medical record entries last throughout our entire life? For example, when I'm 50, can a doctor find out that I broke an arm when I was 19?

    2) Is there a single medical record that's accessible by any doctor throughout the U.S. or do each of us have multiple medical records at various clinics which are isolated to that clinic? If I go to one doctor for cosmetic surgery, another for the flu, and another for STD treatment, do all of these records show up on a single file?

    3) Are prescription records part of your medical record or is this separate? I'm assuming that a doctor will list the prescription along with the medical issue.

    4) I've read a bit about HIPPA and privacy. Is there still cause for concern with data leakage? I'm assuming that health insurance providers have access to medical records to determine the risk level of a customer's policy in the same way auto insurance companies look at driving records.

    5) Are there clinics that do not report medical problems and prescriptions to your medical record? I've heard that urgent care centers do not if you pay out of pocket. Is this true?

    Thanks

  40. QUESTION:
What say you Group supports illegal immigrant "driver cards"?
ALGOMA - A new push in the area toward allowing immigrants regardless of status to have "driver cards" - a limited purpose driver's license. The idea was part of the state budget plan last year, but was removed.

Thursday, a group that has tried to get the cards approved before held a forum in Kewaunee.

Allowing an illegal immigrant to get behind the wheel legally in Wisconsin is something Cindy Bruening would like to see.

"I think it will help make our roads and communities more safe," said Bruenig.

Bruenig represents Voces de la Frontera, and coordinates sessions like one held Thursday night in Algoma for the Coalition for Safe Roads.

"I think people will have access to education, to know the rules of the road," said Bruenig. "They'll have greater access to be able to get auto insurance in order to make sure that no one is having to pay greater costs for having uninsured drivers on the roads."

The legal status of immigrants is something federal, not local, law enforcement deals with. The Kewaunee County Sheriff likes the idea of "limited purpose" drivers licenses.

"All again we can do is deal with the reality of those persons traveling on our roads, operating on our roads, and do what we can to create once again that safe environment," said Sheriff Matt Joski, Kewaunee County. "We hope that maybe through this, this opens up the conversation and that sooner or later there will be an addressing of that bigger issue."

"I just can't understand what part of illegal don't people understand," said State Senator Alan Lasee, R - De Pere.

Lasee notes the issue is being raised a few weeks before an election. He also says the idea of driver cards "flies in the face" of people who immigrated legally.

"I'd be really cool toward the idea, only because if illegal aliens are illegal why then try to give them the appearance of a legal status by having a driver's card. That would be a bit troubling I would think," said Lasee.

Neither the senate nor the assembly will be considering the issue at least until the new legislature, elected next month, convenes in January.

The Coalition for Safe Roads is holding forums in Milwaukee, Madison, and Eau Claire in the next few weeks. After that, organizers say they will evaluate their next steps.

Just one more bill we CITIZEN tax payers will have to foot to support the poor ILLEGAL immigrant law breaker. I have a better idea, why don't we tell them we have a "driver card" and when they show up to get it, an ICE agent is standing there waiting to deport their @ss.

  41. QUESTION:
Got involved in a crash, but she has no insurance?
I was involved in a rear-end collision in which a speeding car hit me. I live in Florida which is a partial no-fault state which I think means that everyone has to carry a minimum amount of insurance coverage for themselves and that their insurance is responsible for paying for their own damages, whether or not they were at fault. At least I think, that's what I read on several websites, so I don't know how reliable it is.
So after the crash, the girl and her mother were asking me about getting my insurance to handle a rental car. I told them that I wasn't sure my insurance had to pay for it and they should call their insurance. But later the next day, the girl called me again and told me she had her car towed to a shop covered by my insurance to get it fixed. I filed a claim about the accident which she asked me to access so she could get the information I provided. I gave it to her since I reported that she was at fault, and I received a call from the auto-store owner stating that they had a problem with my statement and that it said the girl was at fault, to which I responded, "Yea, she was." I told the guy that the girl should be talking to her own insurance company to pay off her damages, because mine isn't going to unless they find me at fault. The man basically revealed to me that the girl who rear-ended me HAS NO COLLISION INSURANCE.
Does this mean that the girl and her mother were basically trying to get money from me without contacting their insurance company? Also, isn't it required in all 50 states to have collision and medical insurance? What would happen to this girl? Can she even claim any money from my insurance company, and are there any consequences for her not having collision insurance?

    • ANSWER:
Two things: This incident shows why it's well worth it not to go cheap on car ins [not saying you did.]

I have coverage for UNinsured drivers causing me a loss, and UNDERinsured. And I have that in adequate dollar amts.

Also, it's not a good idea to get into convo's w/ other ppL in accidents other than the basics of exchanging required info.

  42. QUESTION:
Can I sue, and if so, for what?
I have been harassed via email regarding an insurance matter by the family of my ex girlfriend. Basicly we had auto insurance in both our names, I stopped paying, and the insurance was cancleled. 2 months after we broke up she had a car accident (car is in her name only). Now her family is emailing me and asking for all sorts of personal information (which I denied) and also attempting to access my online accounts with my insurance company (by trying to coerce another family member into divulging the info). I sent the family member an email stating I had given them all the info that I could, and that this was my formal request to no longer be contacted by phone or email regarding the matter. If it matters there was also a signature attached that states that the email is a confidential and intended for the recepient only. He proceded to forward it to his relatives, and then contacted me again via email (while cc'ing the other members of his family) and made threats to sue me and report me for not having auto insurance. Also another family member mistakenly replied to the message and did not take me off the cc list, in that persons message they call me a deceitful liar and other various choice words, and congratulate their family member on a job well done threatening me.. So here's my question: Can I sue the family member since I had already requested not to be contacted regarding the matter? If so on what grounds can I sue? Can I also sue the other family member for defamation for the email they mistakenly also forwarded to me? Thank you in advance for all your help!
Thank you for your answers so far, my goal is to sue them. All I want to know is can I, and on what grounds... Thank you

    • ANSWER:
Sounds like the best you can do is try to get a restraining order. I do not even think you need to go that far, however. Just block the email addresses, ignore them, and make sure your (ex) insurance company knows the situation.

  43. QUESTION:
Move to another country because of illness?
I have psoriasis, arthritis as part of an unidentified auto-immune disease. I've been to 10 doctors. None of them will prescribe immunosuppressant drugs, which are now mandatory, since my knees have swelled and I can't walk. I'm 32. I realize I will never get health insurance in this country, since I can't walk now, so my girlfriend suggested we move to England or Australia or somewhere where you can get access to basic medicine. It seems like a rash decision, (no pun intended), but I'd rather not stay here and waste away because of insurance companies.

    • ANSWER:
You might try Canada, as it is closer and more similar to live in from a social perspective than Australia or England.

  44. QUESTION:
What does illegal immigration have to do with your costs and your access to medical care when you need it?
Estimates are that 20-40% of uncompensated ("free") medical services are provided to people in the US illegally. The actual number may be much higher. Shockingly, hospitals and clinics don't ask about citizenship...a medical version of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."

In both Tucson and Dallas where I have practiced medicine, hospitals are struggling under massive costs of uncompensated medical services for uninsured people who, by federal law, cannot be turned away for lack of insurance or ability to pay.

How much does this uncompensated care actually cost taxpayers? The incredible answer: no one knows.

We only have "estimates" of the costs to taxpayers to treat illegal immigrants because hospitals and public health clinics do not ask for proof of citizenship before providing care.

What are consequences to taxpaying citizens?

    1. Increased cost and reduced access to trauma care. Tucson has lost all but one Level I Trauma Center to serve all of southern Arizona, in large part due to massive, unsustainable losses from uncompensated care. Auto accidents involving overloaded vans of illegal aliens happen regularly in southern Arizona. Injured are flown by air ambulance to University Medical Center's Trauma Center and treated with state of the art care....all at taxpayer expense.

    2. A registered nurse involved with the Pima County health system since the 1970's who must remain anonymous because of her role, said she has never seen any staff member at either El Rio Clinic or Pima County Health Department ask for proof of citizenship before providing free medical services (immunizations, Well Baby checks, food stamps, WIC services, birth control, and even elective abortions). Costs are paid by taxpayers. When funds are depleted, low income American citizens have fewer services and longer waits as a result.

    3. This same RN also said: "I personally know Mexican men who married 16 year old girls, got them pregnant, brought them to Tucson for the baby to become a US citizen. They live in Mexico but come here for their health care. Taxpayers pay for this medical care many ways, at the Public Health Department, and with school nurses who provide care."

    4. Uncompensated medical services for illegal immigrants mean higher premiums for all of us due to cost shifting among all third party payers. To cover the deficits from "free" medical services they provide, the administration at University Physicians Health System Kino campus is analyzing how much to increase employee health insurance premiums as of July 1.

They -don't- ask for proof of citizenship while signing up people for Arizona Medicaid. The fact that Arizona is also pretty much bankrupt is hardly a coincidence.

  45. QUESTION:
can anyone look up a vin for me.?
Im looking at buying a truck with a salvage title. The guy says he does'nt know why it was salvage and I was wanting to know if anyone had access to vin info without going through a place like carfax or something. Let me make this clear because someone got my question booted because I wasnt clear last time. IM NOT ASKING YOU TO BREAK THE LAW!!! Im simply asking if anyone with access to the info, (Insurance agent, auto dealer, or salvage rebuilder), could look it up for me. The vin is 1GTEK19T23E379402...... thank you for your help.
Ok satan guy, I didnt say it had to be via carfax and yes it does matter if its flood or collision. collision damage can be repaired eaisily enough and can be made to where you dont have to worry about it. Flood damage on the other hand you cant know what it messed up and it could take a long time for the problems to materialize. Ex. the flood could have gotten into the E.C.U. and shorted it out, could have gotten into ANY electrical system and the wires could start to rust and create yet another electrical problem... so there feller, I know what youre going to say so just quit wasting my time and find another person to attempt to give answers to. Thank you.

    • ANSWER:
No one said it was illegal. What you are asking is a violation of the Carfax TOS just like I said before. Just like I said before its against the terms and conditions for unlimited carfax users to resell, reprint, or redistribute those reports. And, yes, it is akin to an illegal music download. Passing on intellectual property is a violation of the DRM act.

So again - if you want the info, pay for it. If you don't want to pay for it then it must not be that important to you. If you want the best option, have a mechanic look the car over.

Does it matter why it was salvage? is it better that it was in a massive collision compared to a flood? You are already buying a car that has had massive problems, you know that. The Carfax won't be much comfort.

  46. QUESTION:
Do you want to "fix" Health Care.. without the Government intrusion?
Aptly called the Patients' Choice Act, it provides a path to universal coverage by redirecting current subsidies for health insurance to individuals. It also provides a new safety net that guarantees access to insurance for those with pre-existing conditions.

The nexus of their plan is redirecting the 0 billion annual tax subsidy for employment-based health insurance to individuals in the form of refundable, advanceable tax credits. Families would get ,700 a year and individuals ,300 to buy insurance and invest in Health Savings Accounts.

Low-income Americans would get a supplemental debit card of up to ,000 to help them purchase insurance and pay out-of-pocket costs. They would have an incentive to spend wisely since up to one-fourth of any unspent money in the accounts could be rolled over to the next year. The combination of the refundable tax credit and debit card gives lower-income Americans a way out of the Medicaid ghetto so they can have the dignity of private insurance.

States could provide one-stop insurance shopping through new Health Care Exchanges rather than giving the federal government control, as most Democratic plans would do. And it frees up Medicaid money and provides added resources to the states to target additional help to those with disabilities and low incomes. It also calls for auto-enrollment to expand insurance coverage: People will have many options and opportunities to select insurance, but if they don't make an active choice they can be automatically enrolled in private policies financed by the tax credit.

Who will control the system? Doctors and patients, or politicians and regulators? That's the crux of this year's health-care debate.

This is the GOP plan: More Coverage, Less Cost without Government Intrusion into our decision making

  47. QUESTION:
    Married and questioning divorce???
My husband (40yrs old) and I (20yrs old) have been married for 2 yrs. I have no access to his credit cards, bank accounts, vehicles, mortgage, insurance....In other words, we are like room mates, if that. I don't know how much he owes on the house, his truck, his credit cards...I don't even know how much he makes a year or how much he has in the bank. For all I know, we could be millionaires or dirt poor. Everything we do is separate. All I know is that his ex wife is still on the mortgage, was on all of his credit cards, and is still joint on a bank account. He just recently stopped paying for her auto insurance, but after they divorced, he bought her a new vehicle by taking out a home equity loan. She filed for bankruptcy and my credit is in the high 700s so I know it has nothing to do with him being scared of my financial security. Plus, they were only married for 18 months! Everyday I wonder why we don't share ANYTHING together. What should I do? Grounds for divorce or not???
I've asked so many times if we can sit and talk about all of this, and it has never worked. He just gets so mad and it always starts a fight. I am open about all of my finances, my emails, everything. Also, I'm not interested in taking his money... I have my own. It's just the principal behind it all. I do love him-I would not have married him, but sometimes, things like this, allow me to realize that clearly we are not in this together and I do have to give myself some credit and realize I deserve better.

10 Questions for Supporters of 'ObamaCare'
by Dennis Prager (Copyright © 2009 Salem Web Network.)

    1. President Barack Obama repeatedly tells us that one reason national health care is needed is that we can no longer afford to pay for Medicare and Medicaid. But if Medicare and Medicaid are fiscally insolvent and gradually bankrupting our society, why is a government takeover of medical care for the rest of society a good idea? What large-scale government program has not eventually spiraled out of control, let alone stayed within its projected budget? Why should anyone believe that nationalizing health care would create the first major government program to "pay for itself," let alone get smaller rather than larger over time? Why not simply see how the Democrats can reform Medicare and Medicaid before nationalizing much of the rest of health care?

    2. President Obama reiterated this past week that "no insurance company will be allowed to deny you coverage because of a pre-existing medical condition." This is an oft-repeated goal of the president's and the Democrats' health care plan. But if any individual can buy health insurance at any time, why would anyone buy health insurance while healthy? Why would I not simply wait until I got sick or injured to buy the insurance? If auto insurance were purchasable once one got into an accident, why would anyone purchase auto insurance before an accident? Will the Democrats next demand that life insurance companies sell life insurance to the terminally ill? The whole point of insurance is that the healthy buy it and thereby provide the funds to pay for the sick. Demanding that insurance companies provide insurance to everyone at any time spells the end of the concept of insurance. And if the answer is that the government will now make it illegal not to buy insurance, how will that be enforced? How will the government check on 300 million people?

    3. Why do supporters of nationalized medicine so often substitute the word "care" for the word "insurance?" it is patently untrue that millions of Americans do not receive health care. Millions of Americans do not have health insurance but virtually every American (and non-American on American soil) receives health care.

    4. No one denies that in order to come close to staying within its budget health care will be rationed. But what is the moral justification of having the state decide what medical care to ration?

    5. According to Dr. David Gratzer, health care specialist at the Manhattan Institute, "While 20 years ago pharmaceuticals were largely developed in Europe, European price controls made drug development an American enterprise. Fifteen of the 20 top-selling drugs worldwide this year were birthed in the United States." Given how many lives -- in America and throughout the world – American pharmaceutical companies save, and given how expensive it is to develop any new drug, will the price controls on drugs envisaged in the Democrats' bill improve or impair Americans' health?

    6. Do you really believe that private insurance could survive a "public option"? Or is this really a cover for the ideal of single-payer medical care? How could a private insurance company survive a "public option" given that private companies have to show a profit and government agencies do not have to – and given that a private enterprise must raise its own money to be solvent and a government option has access to others' money -- i.e., taxes?

    7. Why will hospitals, doctors, and pharmaceutical companies do nearly as superb a job as they now do if their reimbursement from the government will be severely cut? Haven't the laws of human behavior and common sense been repealed here in arguing that while doctors, hospitals and drug companies will make significantly less money they will continue to provide the same level of uniquely excellent care?

    8. Given how many needless procedures are ordered to avoid medical lawsuits and how much money doctors spend on medical malpractice insurance, shouldn't any meaningful "reform" of health care provide some remedy for frivolous malpractice lawsuits?

    9. Given how weak the U.S. economy is, given how weak the U.S. dollar is, and given how much in debt the U.S. is in, why would anyone seek to have the U.S. spend another trillion dollars? Even if all the other questions here had legitimate answers, wouldn't the state of the U.S. economy alone argue against national health care at this time?

    10. Contrary to the assertion of President Obama -- "we spend much more on health care than any other nation but aren't any healthier for it" -- we are healthier. We wait far less time for procedures and surgeries. Our life expectancy with virtually any

  50. QUESTION:
How Much will YOU pay for the Nationalized Health Care reform?
INDIVIDUAL MANDATE: All the plans require individuals to get health insurance, with government subsidies or expanded programs to help people with lower incomes purchase coverage. New online exchanges would be created to help people shop for policies at more affordable group rates. About 15 percent of U.S. residents, or some 46 million, lacked health insurance in 2008, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.-----This is similar to requirements of Auto Insurance, http://www.compuquotes.com/average-costs-of-insurance.html----This bill will require YOU to pay for your insurance. How much is yet to be determined.

EXPANDING COVERAGE: President Barack Obama and top Democrats in Congress say they want to cover all Americans, yet the proposals would still leave millions of people not eligible for Medicare uninsured, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office. Under the House proposal, about 17 million people, almost half of them illegal immigrants, would lack coverage, the CBO estimated. The plan by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Baucus would leave about 25 million uninsured, a third of them illegal immigrants, the CBO said.------ How do you FORCE Illegal immigrants to pay for insurance? They don't pay for Auto Insurance. The uninsured costs to insurance are simply transferred to those who do pay for it.-----Again how much will that be?

INSURER REQUIREMENTS: Insurers would no longer be able to reject new customers with pre-existing medical conditions; new restrictions would be placed on their ability to set premiums.----What are the "new" restrictions which will set premiums for private insurers? Is this a means to end their programs, thereby establishing ONLY government run insurance?

REDUCING COSTS: The legislation is intended to lower long- term health-care costs for consumers and the government.----Granted, the more people in a particular program the less it will cost (LONG TERM), but the statistics point out 46 million will be included within which program? The Governments or Private? The additionally insured will no doubt increase the costs to the individual policy holder. Again how much will that be?

All the plans call for greater access to preventive care, either with new programs or the elimination of co-payments, a change that proponents claim will save money by keeping people from developing diseases that are more costly to treat. They also call for more use of electronic systems to promote better record-keeping and reduce overhead costs.---Simply put this is Control over your day to day life. Standards will be em placed to prevent you from having that Hoagie with extra mayo.----Record keeping on a Government Run Nationalized Health Care Mandated fulfillment will ultimately undermine your INDIVIDUAL LIBERTY, no matter if it is in this bill or not eventually the Government will know everything about YOU.

Obama favors a new independent commission to set reimbursement rates for providers who treat patients in Medicare, the federal program for the elderly. The Senate finance committee draft embraced this idea, saying it would reduce costs by taking authority away from Congress and making payment decisions less politically charged. Members of the Blue Dog Coalition, a group of self-described fiscally conservative House Democrats, also support the plan.----Good Idea

BIOLOGICS: Biologic drugs, which are made from living cells by companies such as Thousand Oaks, California-based Amgen Inc., would get 12 years of protection from generic competition under a plan passed by the Senate health panel and the House Energy and Commerce Committee. The White House had sought to limit the exclusivity to seven years as a way of bringing prices down.----Concessions made to Pharmaceutical companies in return for political clout in advance of the reform bill. In other words the Pharms said they would cut costs up front in order to get their return long term.

COMPARING TREATMENTS: Legislation in both the House and Senate would create research centers to examine the efficacy of various health-care services, devices, treatments and procedures. None of the bills require the research be used to force health providers to adopt new procedures or policies to cut costs, which is an administration priority. Obama provided .1 billion in the stimulus act to fund so-called comparative effectiveness research.-----Teams will be in place to determine WHAT care (policy/procedures) is needed based on statistics for any particular disease. We all know statistics are only for those who read them not those who are a part of them.

    Differences

PUBLIC OPTION: The three House panels and Senate health committee would create a new government-run insurance program designed to compete with private companies such as Minnetonka, Minnesota-based UnitedHealth Group Inc. and help reduce prices for insurance in the market. The House Energy and Commerce Committee and the Senate health panel require that the new entity ne
