Very ofte 00004000 n I hear people say aI have my car insurance, home insurance, and life insurance in a package, therefore I must be getting the best deal.a The reality is that this is not necessarily the case.
Insurance companies have convinced consumers that by bundling all of their insurance products with one company, they will get the best rate. The reality is you may be paying more for having everything combined. Think of it this way; what is the likelihood you will change banks when you have your: credit card, checking and savings account, car loan, mortgage, online banking, etc, probably not, its too much hazel. Same with insurance companies know consumers are slow at making any kind of drastic change.
Insurance companies know the statistics of a customer leaving if per say, they increase the rate on the home insurance, but not the auto insurance and/or increase the auto insurance, but not the home insurance. They use this information to increase your rate and have you not even complain because they have lead you to believe, ayou get the best rate because everything is bundleda.

QUESTION:
How do I make an auto insurance claim for scratches through auto owners?
I bought a used car a few months ago that had a near flawless finish. Over the past few months it's been scratched several times by my nephew on his bike. We've talked and now I need to file a claim with my insurance. The marks are everywhere, back of the trunk, right rear quarter panel, hood, left rear quarter panel. The problem is, before I knew I could claim damages, I used a touch up kit to cover the scratches and gouges so they are hard to see. But I could still take pictures of them as they stand now and probably get a letter from the salesman, proclaiming the condition that he told it to me in. What else do I need to file a claim with Auto Owners? Yes, I have full coverage, including comprehensive.
-
ANSWER:
I would settle out of pocket or pay for this yourself, each one of these scratches is a separate occurrence... which means for each scratch before your insurance will pay anything you have to pay your deductible for comprehensive/other that collision coverage. Typically this is 0 or so for each scratch... in the end your only going to end up with a higher premium and nothing from your insurance company to show for it.

QUESTION:
reason for home owners discount in Auto insurance?
What are the economic reason for discount in "Auto Insurance" if the person is also a home owner?I see that even if the home owner insurance is not with the same carrier as Auto Insurance but still auto insurance company gives the home owner discount. And if it is with the same company then it is called "multiple policy" discount.
Also, One of the person has been renting and has the car garage, but that person did get the discount for garaged car but it was less than the home owner discount.
How does the probability of accident or other loss decrease with home ownership?
-
ANSWER:
Well, when it's with the same company, it's all about policy retention - if you have both your auto and homeowners with the same company/agent, you're more likely to renew them both, with the same company. If you only have one, the other agent is going to try to take that other policy from you.Regarding a homeowners discount for homeowners, that really is a loss ratio thing. If you can be responsible enough to manage to own a home, then that responsibility generally translates into driving slightly more responsibly, or at least having fewer claims dollars paid out.
You CAN get the credit just as equally, though, with a RENTERS policy as with a homeowners policy. Usually, that credit is a percentage of the premium.
Insurance companies don't worry about how, or why, there are fewer claims with home ownership - just like they don't worry about how or why with credit scores, marital status, gender, etc. The how or why isn't relevant. All that's relevant, is that there is a direct corrolation between those items, and claims. The reasons behind it are irrelevant.

QUESTION:
Why is my home owners insurance company(auto owners) sending out an Fire investigator ?
The Fire Dept already determined the cause.-
ANSWER:
Three possible reasons:1) It's just a random check.
2) They don't agree with the Fire Investigator's determination or somehow suspect it's inaccurate or incorrect.
3) The Fire Investigator didn't answer a question they have. (For example, he may have determined the location but not the source, or identified the source as an electronic device but not provided specifics about what the device is.)
They may be looking for someone to hold responsible. For example, if the cause was electrical, they may want to try to collect from the manufacturer of the device.

QUESTION:
If you have non-owners auto insurance but then buy a car, can the insurance be transferred over to the car?-
ANSWER:
It depends on your insurance company, but I would say 99.99% "yes".Think of it like this... if you have renters insurance on your apartment, and then buy a house, you can normally transfer your coverage from "renter's" to "owner's" insurance with the same company... and you may get a discount from what you pay now... depending on your policy coverage / limits and the vehicle you purchase... Typically, non-owner's insurance costs as much as a teenager's comprehensive insurance on a sports car... if you purchase a "normal" sedan, truck, or SUV and have a good driving record, your rates will typically be lower than what you are paying now.

QUESTION:
Where Do I Find Quotes For Non-Owners Auto Insurance?
I Need It Cheap, Fast, And In Denver,CO.!!!!!!!!!!!!-
ANSWER:
www.progressive.com You can do this right on the website 24 hrs a day, BUT & this is a HUGE BUT, if you have regular access to a vehicle (owned by someone in your household or your significant other's vehicle) whether you drive it or not, you will not be eligible for a nonowners policy with Progressive. If this is the case, you may have to go to your State's assigned risk pool - it may be possible to get it there. If you are not sure, call an independent agent.
Just so you know, it may very well be CHEAPER to insure a vehicle with liability only than to purchase a nonowners policy. At least that has been my experience.

QUESTION:
Couple of questions about home owners insurance and auto insurance?
Ok, my mother and I can't seem to agree and I would like an outside opinion. I'm not looking for people to join my side or make this sound 1 sided. I have a pick up truck that had been parked on the side of the house for a while, tags expired etc. I moved the truck onto the carport cuz no room to work on the side of house. She recently had homeowner insurance co. tell her to paint garage door before they will insure. Now she is telling me that homeowners insurance will go up due to the fact that there is another vehicle parked in the driveway. Is this true? I fail to see what my vehicle has to do with house insurance especially since my truck won't be covered by the insurance. Also she claimed that last yr her car insurance co. charged her double because I moved in. Is this true? Can an automobile insurance co. raise your rates due to an extra occupant in your home who is not added to the policy and doesn't use the car and has their own transportation?-
ANSWER:
In terms of the homeowners insurance and your truck -- I do not know about actually increasing the rate but the insurance company can request (more like demand) that the vehicle be removed. A vehicle with expired tags is considered a liability and nuisance hazard. In recent years there have been two incidents that have occurred with junker type vehicles located in the driveway/garage/yard area of two different homes. In one of these incidents two small neighborhood kids decided to play inside the vehicle and ended up dying inside from heatstroke. In the 2nd case there were a few teens that decided to vandalize the vehicle and they set it on fire which then spread to the house causing major damage. Vehicles with dead tags are considered junk vehicles and are a known hazard -- at least two jurisdictions nearby prohibit these types of vehicles and will issue very large tickets to the homeowner and if not removed within 2 weeks of the tickets -- both of these counties will tow the vehicles and then charge the homeowner all the costs for the tow and storage. If your mother fails to comply with removing the vehicle from the property the insurance can cancel her policy and apparently they can also raise her premium for increased hazard. In terms of the increase to her automobile insurance -- all insurance companies will periodically run a report entitled ADD (Additional Driver Discovery) to determine if there are additional drivers in the household. They do this because if you were to drive the vehicle and have an accident, they would have to pay for the accident since you are household member (as long as your mother did not lie on the application to hide you as a driver and your license is valid). Insurance companies have the right to charge the appropriate premium for all drivers in the household. If you do not want to be rated on your mother's policy, there are only a few alternatives: 1) purchase your own vehicle and your own insurance--your mother can then send a copy of your insurance to her company and they will remove the additional premium; 2) some companies will allow your mother to sign a driver exclusion (this is not available in all states)--this form basically amends her policy to add a provision stating that if you are involved as a driver in any accident the insurance will not cover that accident, this is not a good option in my opinion since if you drive the vehicle for any reason both you and your mother will be totally on the hook for all damages; 3) you can move out of the household and your mother would then have to provide proof of this and the insurance company will amend the policy to remove you.
In essence from what you are explaining, I believe that your mother is telling you the truth.
I hope this information helps. Good Luck

QUESTION:
If you're an Insurance Agent (Auto, Home or Business) do you have to carry your own Errors and Omissions Ins.?
If you're an Insurance Agent (selling Auto Insurance, Business Insurance or Home Owners Insurance) do you have to carry your OWN 'Errors and Omissions' Insurance? Or is it provided by the Company you are working for?
(does your Employer carry the Insurance for you? or do you have to purchase the insurance and keep it up to date on your own?)-
ANSWER:
It will depend upon the contractual arrangement you have. If you are an independent contractor you will most certainly need to purchase your own E & O insurance. On the other hand if you are an employee of the company or agency they will normally include you as an insured under their policy.Do not assume you have coverage. This is an important point to clarify.

QUESTION:
Would auto insurance cover a car being hit by a meteorite?
In 1992 in Peekskill, NY, fans at a high school football game noticed a fireball streaking through the sky, and was captured on film in 16 different cameras. It ended up smashing the trunk of a car nearby. I was just wondering, if the owner had auto insurance, would he get the money to repair his car?-
ANSWER:
It actually would be covered under Comprehensive as it was a free falling object that hit the vehicle. But one would have had to opt for that under their policy. It is NOT part of the mandatory coverage one is required to carry for the state. If only liabitly, then there would be no coverage.

QUESTION:
Responsibility of owner, registrant and insurance holder for auto liability?
I am wondering who holds the most responsibility for an auto - the owner, the person on the registration or the person with the insurance policy. Assuming that these people are all different.More specifically, if I have a car on my insurance policy which is owned by someone else and registered to that person am I legally responsible as the policy holder?
Say I am leasing a car, so the title is held by the finance company but the car is registered to me. And my wife is the primary policy holder of the insurance. I am listed as a driver, but the policy is not in my name.-
ANSWER:
The person who is the principal on the insurance policy is the one held responsible for any claims. It doesn't matter who owns the vehicle, who is driving, or who else is listed as "other drivers" on the policy. That is for claims. The person who's name appears on the registration (or lease papers) is ultimately responsible for the operation of the vehicle. That is for law suits or illegal operation of the vehicle. (Photo enforcement of laws, illegal parking, damage done to others by the vehicle, etc.)
The person driving the vehicle is responsible for safe and legal operation of the vehicle. That is for vehicle stop tickets. (speeding, reckless driving, etc. where the vehicle is actually stopped by law enforcement.)
An interesting scenario: Vehicle causes a wreck and leaves the scene of an accident. Witness could not see driver, but wrote down license plate number.
The Insured is liable for all damages, the owner (name on registration/lease papers) can be ticketed or arrested unless they give the name of the person using their vehicle at the time, (and signs a legal statement/appears in court to swear to it.) in which case the person actually driving receives the legal penalties.

QUESTION:
I had about 00 worth of tools stolen out of my truck tool box. Will my auto insurance cover this?
Someone mention my home owners insurance might pick it up. What's the best way to notify the local pawn shops so that they can keep an eye for these items? I did file the report with local police department.-
ANSWER:
Auto policy will not cover your personal property in it. Check with your homeowners company. If the tools are used for business purposes there is going to be a limitation. The limitation will vary from 250 to 1000 depending on the company. If the tools are used for personal use only then you would have coverage on them under the homeowners policy.

QUESTION:
Why isn't health insurance open to the individual nationwide like auto/home owner insurance is?
Wouldn't making any policy, from any company, anywhere in the country also significantly bring down the costs?
EDIT: In the interests of being fair here I have to say that I am totally in support of a single payer health system..........but in the event that probably isn't going to happen wouldn't opening the market also make insurance cheaper?-
ANSWER:
gomaneys... that's the half truth... so now, there's going to be a sole BIG company that's able to establish in every state and undercut established companies. that kind of negates your argument in a way doens't it? Why wouldn't it be good for companies to cross state lines and see if compettition does occur for the good? It would be an easy "baby step" instead of changing the whole system all at one.

QUESTION:
Can a non-car-owner buy auto insurance to drive any car (rental or friend's)? How does one obtain it?-
ANSWER:
The type of policy you are looking for is called a "Named Operator Only" policy, they can be more expensive to purchase but it will allow you to rent a car, now this type of policy is for liability only, you would still need to get the damage waiver from the rental company if you rented. When you are given permission to drive another person's car their insurance should cover the vehicle in the event of any liability mishap while you are driving.

QUESTION:
auto insurance or home owners?
my dogs went crazy this weekend and attacked my car, i need my hood, front bumper, and side panels replaced. can i claim it under homeowners? since it was at home and not a car accident?-
ANSWER:
Nope, homeowners won't cover any damage to your car.It only covers dog damage, if your dog does damage to SOMEONE ELSE'S property - not yours. Because it's a liability coverage, and you can't sue yourself, YOU cannot collect for damages under YOUR homeowners liability section.
Might want to get that dog to a vet - I can't imagine that they don't have damage to their mouth, after all that metal biting . . .

QUESTION:
non-owner auto insurance provider in Canada?
Does anyone know a good source for non-owner liability and collision insurance in Canada? Basically this covers a driver for rental cars as well as while driving someone else's car. I know that you can purchase it as an add-on to existing auto insurance, but is it possible to get if you do not own a car? Thanks-
ANSWER:
The agency that rents you a car should be able to provide you with an insurance policy. If you want to buy an independant insurace, it will depend on where in canada you are. Some provinces have government insurance (British Columbia - I.C.B.C. for example) and some have private insurance (Alberta - Co-operaters insurance for example)
You might also be able to arrange it through a travel agency, or CAA.

QUESTION:
Does anyone know anything about non owners insurance for the state of Missouri?
I need auto insurance-
ANSWER:
It only covers you, when you use a vehicle not owned by you, or any of your household members; and the vehicle must not be available to you for regular use.Agents don't like to sell this, for two reasons: 1. it's a pain to write, as pretty much you have to go through the state auto fund of whatever state you're in, and you don't make nearly enough money to cover your costs in writing it and 2. most of the time, people are buying it for the wrong reasons, thinking that it's going to get them out of paying more money to insure them the right way - in other words, claims get DENIED, because people are driving regular use or household member vehicles without being listed.
In any case, you'll have to talk to a local agent about this. Don't try "do it yourself" insurance. If you're not an agent, you're probably misunderstanding something.

QUESTION:
Car Insurance or Home owners insurance? Is my car covered?
I have a car that is stored in a locked enclosed car trailer on my property. I do not currently have auto insurance on it and was curious to know if it would be covered under my home owners insurance policy.-
ANSWER:
Unfortunately, it is not covered under your home ins. nor is the car trailer. The car trailer should be able to add to your auto ins fairly cheap because of no motor and if you have a classic car that needs coverage if you drive it less than 300 miles a year the policy for them are really cheap even for full coverage. Call your agent and ask about the classic car ins or go online to Hagerty Classic Car Insurance. Also if you have a tag on it and no ins....you need to turn the tag in for a tag voucher until you are ready to drive it. This will prevent any driver's license trouble.

QUESTION:
I often drive a friend's car. What companies offer "Non-car owner" auto insurance?
Everywhere i look online just offer "get a quote" then you have to enter a type of car. I don't own a car but I need insurance to take my driver's test in North Carolina. I couldn't find this type of insurance offered on any websites.-
ANSWER:
You are looking for a nonowner policy. This however, will NOT cover you for a vehicle you drive on a regular basis (your friend's vehicle you drive "often"). Insurance follows vehicles, not drivers so any vehicle that is insured (& the ID card & registration are in the glove compartment) will be fine to take the driving test with. If you are taking it in your friend's car, be sure he or she is with you when you go. If you will be a regular driver of the car (Progressive says if you drive it more than 12 times per year), you will need to be added as a driver to that policy, even if you are not in the same household.

QUESTION:
Has anybody dropped their auto insurance or home owner's policy to save money?
Some states allow you to prove "financial responsibility" instead of purchasing auto insurance. If you don't have a mortgage, nobody will force you to buy homeowner's insurance. Has anybody done it? How does it work? and would you recommend it? I think insurance -- any insurance -- should ONLY be purchased if it is a good deal financially, and if not, why should you if you are willing and financially able to take the risk yourself? Shouldn't it be a goal to become self-sufficient whereever possible?I would like to hear your comments.
-
ANSWER:
Hi again, your friendly insurance guy again.
Plenty of people drop their insurance to save money. Is it a good idea? That depends.
Each person's situation is different. Some people have the financial means to self-insure. Insurance is something a consumer purchases to push risk away from himself or herself. If you have the means to recover from any loss, no matter how severe, you probably don't need to insure against it except as a convenience.
The thing to keep in mind, however, is that the real risks consumers should use insurance to push away from themselves are the BIG risks, not the small ones. Health insurance, for example, is at its most powerful as a ward against the risk of having to pay for the expense of severe, long term, debilitating types of illness that cost incredible sums of money, like needing dialysis for the rest of your life, for example. Sure, it's nice to have the co-pay instead of the full cost of the checkup, but that's not the real risk health insurance is protecting you from. Having to pay for a few checkups a year probably won't render you a financial wreck. Paying for three years of chemotherapy might.
In the end, what it boils down to is this:
Most people will never be in position to need the full benefits of the insurance they purchase, and that is a good thing. That's not nexessarily a reason to cancel it. People DO get cancer. People's houses DO burn down. People DO get into car accidents and get sued for millions of dollars. Ask yourself if you're prepared to look yourself in the mirror some day and say:
"Well, I guess I was wrong, it actually COULD happen to me."
Or worse, to your family:
"I'm sorry, I was wrong, I wish I had kept the insurance but I didn't."
As a person in the industry, let me tell you: Occasionally the phone rings at the agency and that second guy is on the other end of the line and the conversation goes like this:
"Can I get the insurance back so it will save my family?"
And then one of us has to try to figure out how to tell someone who's going to die that there's nothing we can do to help him any more. You have no idea just how awful it is to get that call.
So yes, you can cancel your insurance to save some money. Please decide if the risk you take by doing so is the right choice, and choose wisely. If you have the means to self-insure, by all means make whatever choice you wish. If not, be cautious and consider the wisdom of erring on the side of discretion.

QUESTION:
Can Home Owner Insurance be used to pay for auto accident?
guy who t-boned my car says he is going to pay for it using home owners ins., how? his auto ins. lapsed 9 days prior to wreck. help me understand
unfortunately uninsured motorist covers bodily only in AZ & I Only have LIABILITY
-
ANSWER:
He can't.The standard home owners policy policy specifically excludes automobile liability.
There is no way around this.
Unless he plans on filing committing insurance fraud and filing a false claim against his homeowners (like a staged theft) and collecting that money to pay you - there is no other way. Given that this is insurance fraud and a crime - you would want no part of that.
His homeowners insurance company will not cover a auto accident.

QUESTION:
How are we suppose to pay for health care when we don't have enough money for insurance?
I am on a small retirement and Social Security Disabilty form a spinal disease. My wife suffers form a eye problems and is almost blind. Insurance for my wife uses up all my retirement and we get .00 dollars after paying health insurance for her. Social Security Disabilty does not cover our housing and food expenses. My spinal disease has used up all of our savings and now it looks like we will have to sell our home just to feed ourselves. I had to sell our pickup to get thur last month. We have no money for clothes, auto insurance, home owners insurance, or anything else. We go no where or do anything that cost. We had to take out a second on our hourse. Now we can not make the payments, so pretty soon we will lose our house and will be homeless. I worked 25 years past what the doctors told me I should have been working. I'm at the end of my rope and can see no answer for a way out. Because we have a home we don't qualifiy for any assistance. What are we suppose to do?-
ANSWER:
I am sorry to hear of your situation. There are things you did not mention like your age. Sometimes you have to make tough decisions in life. This may seem hard and cruel, but my advice is to sell the house before it is taken from you. You did say that the only thing keeping you from getting assistance is because you own the house. Sell the house.

QUESTION:
If car insurance is a mandate, and home owners insurance why are people so against a healthcare mandate?
You are mandated to have auto insurance, and home owners insurance, and now in some places rental insurance..Everyone does it..Well most everyone..So if your ok with that mandate why are you opposed to a health insurance mandate that would guarantee everyone gets care..Say you were walking down the street, and we actually trip over each others feet. Not knowing whos fault it was. We both break our leg..You having insurance gets to go the hospital have temporary set. go to a orthopedic have it casts, follow-up care, and then therapy. If I was uninsured I too would go to the hospital with temp set, and that would be the end of my treatment. Why is this ok to you?
I say this because I was without insurance for a bit, and actually broke my wrist. They told me to hold it stilll for three months even when I was sleeping..NO cast No splint..That is not possible. I bought a splint at the store, and wore it for three months and it never healed right..All because I had not insurance and a cast and follow-up care would have been over 2500.00 up front...
Some people cannot get health coverage period, and some people who have had a bad illness are priced out of all plans its not that they aren't willing to buy it they can't. So if everyone gets care why are you so angry about it..its as if you think you are better than someone else.
Yes alpine insurance would only be required if you have a soul and beating heart. I think most of you could get out of it *winning*-
ANSWER:
Well said. I actually know someone who tore up both his knees. He found
a state program that paid most of the cost for surgery and HE IS STILL OPPOSED
to mandated insurance. Go figure. People are cheap and self-centered and don't
give a crap about anyone else. How do you get a mortgage without homeowners insurance? Do these posters think
the banks are idiots? You can't by a car on credit without full coverage.

QUESTION:
How can I negotiate a better price on my home owners Insurance?
How can I negotiate a better price on my home owners Insurance? They rasied my premium about , and I lost one months coverage because the agent listed the policy a month early, so now now the premium is now due earlier also. And I haven't even paid the premium until a month later.
Anyways I keep getting the run around, they can lower it but they need 00 deductible. I do not want the Auto tied into this, its under a different name. This raised the dwelling and personal property which is 70% of the value. I'm sure the real value went down this year.
-
ANSWER:
Companies usually have grace periods so being behind in premium does not always mean that your policy has lapsed so you should verify that with the agent. Then have the agent check the policy to make sure that all discounts are being applied (multi policy discount, safe driver, claim free, in force, etc). If not, then the agent can request that they be added to your policy by underwriting. If your agent is captive, meaning that he/she represents one company, I would suggest taking a copy of your policies to an independent agent. They would be able to "shop" your insurance with many different companies to get you the best deal. To find a local independent agent, just look for IIAB logo in the phonebook.
Hope this helps.

QUESTION:
I'll ask the insurance company in the morning but who do you think should pay?
My Dad [God bless him] was trying to plow the snow off the driveway and backed my tractor through my barn doors and hit my Shelby Mustang that I park in there so it wont get screwed in the snow by some non driving dip stick. So Should my Home owners insurance or my Auto insurance cover it. You think his auto insurance will cover it? Do you let your dad help around the farm? FML.-
ANSWER:
YOUR auto insurance will cover it. Your homeowners doesn't cover auto accidents, and your father's auto insurance won't cover because he was driving a tractor, not his auto. If your barn was damaged, your homeowners will cover that

QUESTION:
What am i required to know in order to work in an auto insurance company?
I have a job interview in an auto insurance company saturday morning. My moms friend is the owner of the company so she got me the interview,Im currently taking computer classes in college but what else do i need to know in order to work there? please help-
ANSWER:
Depends what the position is. You are not expected to know how an auto insurance policy works, if that is your question. They just want to know you are eager to learn, will get along with others,a nd will work hard.By the way, if it is a Saturday interview, I bet it is an insurance agency, not an insurance company.
But you might do some background reading about auto insurance.

QUESTION:
When you purchase auto insurance are you insuring the driver or the vehicle or both?
Here's the situation. I have a 15 year old son who is about to get his provisional license. His mother, my ex-wife, and step-father want to buy him a car. They will buy it, they will be on the title, they will be the owners. If they insure the car in their own name, is there a separate policy for my son as the driver? In other words, could I add my son to my insurance policy and he be able to drive "their" car? How does that work for my two other vehicles? And how does that work for their other two vehicles? Obviously, there will be times that he'll need to drive something other than this car that they are buying for him.-
ANSWER:
both driver and vehicle are covered on policy
your son should be covered on the car that he will drive most often and added to the family policy of his mother and step-father because they are the custodial parents and their name is on the title of the car
since he does not live with you, he will be covered if you give him permission to drive your vehicles

QUESTION:
If you have AAA auto insurance?
Have you received a rebate? I am thinking of changing my auto and home insurance to them. They are not much cheaper than my current provider so I was reluctant to change, especially my home owners as I have heard it is not wise to switch home owners insurance in California.Anyway, the guy at AAA said they give back a rebate at the end of each year for 5%-7% of your policy cost if you do not have any tickets or accidents. I have searched to see if this is in fact true or if it is something they use to get you to sign up and then for some reason not qualify for it.
Just wondering if anyone who has the insurance has got a rebate before or if anyone has heard of this?
Thanks
-
ANSWER:
AAA is an agency. They write policies for companies. Some companies, mutual companies, WILL refund part of your premium if there are no losses on your policy.
So, get it in writing, and then you can enforce it through your state insurance commissioner.
