Average Car Insurance Rates

Driving drunk is a very dangerous thing to do, and can result in a variety of different consequences. If you are convicted of a DUI you will have to deal with points on your license, drivers license suspension, high fines, attorney/court costs, and more. While these items just mentioned tend to be short-term consequences, you may not have considered the long-term consequences that can arise if you're convicted of a DUI. If you're convicted of a DUI your car insurance rates and even your ability to have insurance coverage will be affected.

Higher Rates

More than likely your insurance company will be notified if you're convicted of a DUI. If the company does not suspend your insurance coverage, more often than not, you can wave goodbye to low rate car insurance for a long period of time. If you don't like the higher rates your current company wants to charge you, you can try changing insurance companies, but even changing typically won't save you money because you'll be labeled as a high risk driver, which will result in you paying higher car insurance rates wherever you may go. More than likely your insurance company will have to send an SR-22 Proof of Insurance Certificate to the state showing that they are covering you, in order for your drivers license to have your license suspension removed.

Cancellation

In some cases, if you have been convicted of a DUI, some car insurance companies will actually cancel your insurance policy. Not all companies can issue an SR-22, so this can result in your car insurance policy either being canceled or the company not renewing your policy at your current renewal date. Although some states may not allow your insurance company to cut off your coverage in the middle of your plan, they can stop covering you when your renewal dates come around. If you have questions about cancellation policies, you may want to review the laws in your state or sit down with your agent.

Available Insurance

If you end up having your current insurance policy canceled or not renewed, there are a variety of companies that will be able to offer you car insurance coverage. While you'll be able to find coverage, your new car insurance rates will still reflect the fact that you have a DUI on your record. In some states the DUI is only on your record for five years; however, other states may keep it on your record for life.

Being convicted of a DUI can have a variety of different consequences, both short-term and long-term, and there is a good chance that it could affect your car insurance rates for the rest of your life. If you are interested in keeping your car insurance rates low, plain and simple, don't ever drive drunk. Driving while intoxicated is just a very bad decision. It not only comes with financial consequences, it puts you and others at great risk safety-wise as well. Before you decide to get behind the wheel of a car after drinking, make sure you take a moment to think about the consequences that can last a lifetime.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
What are the average car insurance rates in California?
More specifically, if you live in California, how much do you pay? I'm buying insurance for the first time and I want to get the most basic coverage at the cheapest rate.

    • ANSWER:
There is no such thing as average... You have to call for quotes

  2. QUESTION:
What are the average car insurance rates for a 16 year old and for an 18 year old?

    • ANSWER:
Insurance cost depends on a LOT of factors,

it all depends on your driving records, the state you live in and how long you are willing to search around... try your old place of insurance or justuse yellow pages and call around or shop for some on internet

  3. QUESTION:
What is a fairly average car insurance rate when a you add a new driver in the family?
A family member is getting ready to get their license, and I wanted to know if car insurance rates would go up, and what a likely rate would be.

    • ANSWER:
Way too many factors to take a decent guess. When I got married my insurance went down considerably, we went from about 0/mo each to 0/mo combined. So, in that instance, adding a driver reduced our rate.

Adding a 16 year old to a policy that was previously rated for two adults would have much different results though - depending on the company, your location and the car's value and performance, it could go up by as much as 0/mo or more.

No way to know without making a phone call to your insurance company though - just pick up the phone and call. Most companies can answer this type of question down to the penny in less than 10 minutes. If yours can't, maybe it's time for a new company.

  4. QUESTION:
Average car insurance rates for people under 21 years old?

This is for an argument paper I am doing. If you will, please just give me a numerical amount. This can be broken in to male/female and 16-17/18-21. If possible.

    • ANSWER:
It all depends on your age, sex, marital status, if you have any children, do you receive good grades, have you been in any accidents or received any traffic tickets. All of these things, plus I am sure a lot more, will adjust your rate either up or down. Check out some one-line sources that offer free quotes, progressive or gieco, or just sit down with a phone book and call some reputable insurance agents and they will also offer you a free quote. You will need your license # and VIN # for your vehicle.

  5. QUESTION:
What are the average car insurance yearly rates for a teenager in Chicago with Good Grades?

    • ANSWER:
Grades don't matter. It matters that you have a clean driving record. You should expect to pay somewhere between 3000 and 6000 a year. Depends on the kind of vehicle too, and the city that you garage (park) the vehicle. It's really expensive for teens. So, pick a vehicle that is older - and if you're staying at your parents, consider getting put on theirs, and pay them the difference. If you live there anyway, they are going to have to be put on yours anyway!

  6. QUESTION:
what is average increase in car insurance rates after you get a speeding ticket?
Ausome that this is the persons second ticket and they cannot go to traffic school to erase the ticket

    • ANSWER:
The average increase is approximately 10 % of your car's total insurance.

  7. QUESTION:
What is the average car insurance rate for a 19yr old male listed under his parents car insurance policy?
In New York City, specifically Brooklyn, NY.

    • ANSWER:

  8. QUESTION:
What is the average car insurance rate for a 16 year old female in Arizona with standard coverage?
what would be the approximate monthly charge?
I would be driving a 1999 Camry XLE and I have over a 3.0 GPA

    • ANSWER:
I could speculate from what I've seen... but I don't think that would give you a good answer. I live in Southern California, fairly closed to Arizona, but the rates for a 16 year old here will be completely different than in Arizona (probably more expensive here, California sucks) All different types of age groups change drastically in every city, area, etc. There is so much information insurance companies use; you're driving record, age, type of vehicle, accident rate of the area, etc etc (every insurance company calculates it differently too) that for you to get a safe quote will require you contacting the company...

I know this doesn't answer your question and you probably already had an idea about that, but you should really take it into consideration if you want tangible evidence to support your case in getting a vehicle.

To point you in the right direction...

http://www.progressive.com/ If you can fill out all of the information here, you will be able to get a ball park figure for your auto quote with progressive insurance, as well as several other companies; this is one nice thing that progressive does.

From my experience, I have found the company AAA to offer the best rates for myself and other people around my age group. Here is their page: https://www.logiforms.com/formdata/user_forms/4685_4056067/12098/
Perhaps you will find the same to be true in Arizona.

Keep in mind that most companies offer discounted rates for new drivers, good students (GPA above 2.0 or 3.0 depending on company), and discounts as you get more experience.

I hope I provided you with some tools to use on your quest. Good luck!

  9. QUESTION:
    Car Insurance Rates By City?
Where can I find statistics that show the average car insurance rates for that city or town.

I am looking to invest in some property, not far from Metropolitan New York, and became interested in knowing.

Currently where I live and at my age, 20, insurance for me is in the proximity of ,000. Which I do not intend on paying.

Thanks, and information or suggestions are welcome

    • ANSWER:
I don't know where you live now, but NYC has probably the highest insurance rates in the country.

  10. QUESTION:
Does anyone know car insurance rates?
I wanted to know whats the average rate of car insurance for an 18 year old female..?

    • ANSWER:
Love your answer mrbcatz. No, you can't average Iowa and New Jersey. It could be worse, you could try to average Iowa and California!
How about averaging a Rolls Royce with a 60s Volkswagen Vanagon!

  11. QUESTION:
what is the average car insurance rate for a single 25 y/o female in NY; no accidents or tickets.?

    • ANSWER:
The biggest factor is going to be where the vehicle is garaged in NY. I used to sell insurance in NY and somebody living in NYC would have rates 4-5 times higher (sometimes more) than a comparable driver living in upstate NY. Also, there are far too many individualized factors to claim an "average rate". Things such as credit and insurance history. Type of vehicle, usage and mileage. Previous claims history (even claims not related to an accident, like a glass claim). Previous insurance liability limits. Relationship status (married drivers get lower rates typically). Eligibility for discounts. Lots and lots of things go on behind the scenes to determine your rate. Just call around or go online for quotes, it doesn't take too long. Progressive's program that gives you rates of other companies is also pretty accurate.

  12. QUESTION:
Does anyone know where I can find a list of average auto insurance rates by vehicle?
We have a 16 yr old daughter whos looking for her first car. We wanted to find a list (if one exists) of average insurance rates to see which cars cost the least to insure. This way she'll know which cars she can afford. Thank You.

    • ANSWER:
Welcome to the club! We have tried a few and changed to one that saved us over 00.00 per year. We tried all the others and got so many quotas it made our head spin. So for the last 5 years we have been with AARP Hartford Ins. We have two boys on the policy, one 21 and the other is 17 with three cars. The type of car has very little to do with insurance rates. It is mostly figured on the people driving. A good example of this is to indicate that if you rent a vehicle and you contact your insurance company they will tell you not to buy the extra insurance because you "YOU" are insured and therefore what ever your policy is will cover you in the rental. Our policy for 3 cars and 4 drivers; Mon, dad, boy 21 and boy 17 with AARP in the State of Texas is just under 00.00 a year. Progressive wanted over 00.00 a year to one boy. With AARP you will have to become a member and the fee there is .00 -- well spent money..

  13. QUESTION:

  14. QUESTION:
Should I shop for better car insurance rates?
I am looking to buy a new car. It is a 2005 Pontiac Sunfire. I live in Wisconsin, am 29, and have an excellent driving record. I need full coverage, and called my insurance agent (Progressive- which I've been with for over 12 years) and they said, for an average, about 0 every 6 months. Is this a little high or is this about average. Are there any other car insurance companies that might offer better rates?

    • ANSWER:
if it was me I'd call 10 insurers before accepting the one quote, sometimes more than that. Let's say I'll spend the whole of TWO hours calling around and it is always well worth it.

  15. QUESTION:
    Car insurance rates for massachusetts?
I'm a new driver in Massachusetts and I was wondering what the average cost for car insurance is. I read from a place that it would cost about ,500 and that seemed unreasonably high.

    • ANSWER:
How long is a piece of string :)

also..insurance companies can base your rate on your credit history!! Like, someone with bad credit just has to be a bad driver! You must phone around and find out the best company for the policy you have on your mind.

  16. QUESTION:
Car insurance rates are through the roof and I don't know why, help!?
I need help with car insurance, I'm having some problems. Okay, I'm a 21 year old single, never married, male and I got my driver's license when I was 18 in March 2008. Now, I know my car insurance rates are high because I'm young and a guy, but here's the problem. I see people who are about my same age who have been driving for the same amount of time as and have no accidents, violations, or tickets like me. My car insurance rates are ridiculously high, I mean insanely high, even compared to others my age. My younger brother even, he's had his license for a year, he's 19, and had 3 speeding tickets and still pays less than me. On average for my car insurance rates, getting quotes online range from about 00 all the way up to 00 for 6 months! I used old vehicles, new vehicles, safe vehicles, unsafe vehicles, every kind of car/truck you could imagine and my projected rates are still through the roof.

For example, for full coverage with the minimum amounts and highest deductibles, my insurance on a 2010 Mazda 3 would be about 00-00 for 6 months. However, I also got a quote for a 1997 Ford Escort and the same exact coverage is still 00-00. I don't get why my rates are so much higher.

A coworker of mine is 21 years old, not married, no tickets, and has had his license since 18 like me, and he has a 2007 Mazda 6 and he only pays about 0 a month, which translates to about ~50 for 6 months. I put in my information including SSN on the same company's web site that he uses (Geico) and my insurance rates are about 00 for 6 months.

So my question is why are my insurance rates so high? I have no tickets, no moving violations, no accidents, nothing, and yet insurance rates are so high.

I figure SOMETHING has to be on my driving record, but I can't imagine what. How can get a copy of or look at my driving record? I just want to know why my rates are so much higher than other people, male or female, who are about my age and have been driving for about the same amount of time and yet I still pay 2x or 3x as much as me.

    Please help me out! =)

    • ANSWER:
Your insurance company most likely has a copy of your driving record. Give them a call and ask them if they have a copy or access to a copy. Your local DVM office will have access to your driving records as well. I think I would be asking my insurance company why my rates are so high and others you know have lower rates. I would also call around to some other insurance companies in your area and get quotes from them. If their rates are still higher ask them why the rates are so high. There has to be something that is causing your rates to be higher. Like you have already pointed out you are a 21 year old male and that alone makes the rates expensive. Maybe you need to consider getting liability insurance. It doesn't cover anything on or any injuries to yourself or damages to your vehicle but it would be a lot less rate than full coverage. You probably wouldn't want liability insurance if you have a newer vehicle. If you have a car loan you are required to carry full coverage on the vehicle until the loan is paid in full. It is also possible others that you have mentioned may be on their parents policy and have multi discounts on the policy that makes the rates lower. Talk with your insurance company and make them tell you why your rates are so high and call around and see what you can come up with. Get a copy of your driving record so you can show you have a clean record. You can also go to the police station and probably get a copy of your record to. Make the insurance company prove to you why your rates are so expensive.

  17. QUESTION:
How much on average do you pay for your pro-rated car insurance premium?
I'm buying a new car in a few days and i was quoted about 00 every 6 months...I'm a female driver btw....Do I have to pay the whole 00 when I buy the car or a portion of it?

    • ANSWER:
Do you already have an active policy?
If so, it would depend on where you are at in your term.
If you make monthly payments, they should just add your vehicle and adjust your monthly payments to make up the pro-rated difference.
If you are just buying your policy (at the same time as your car), you will need to make some kind of payment, but the only time you need to pay the whole 6 months in advance is if you choose to do so. Most companies offer payment plans.
      Hope this helps.

  18. QUESTION:
what is the normal rate for car insurance for drivers between 18 and 25?
Hello i am interested to know how much the average car insurance cost would be for young drivers between 18 and 25 years.
    can anyone help me please?
    thank you.

    • ANSWER:
If you are male, 18 to 25, you will pay much more than an older person will. If you are trying to insure a high risk vehicle, ie high performance vehicle, then the rate just doubled. The majority of insurance companies view this age group (and in particular males) as high risk customers and you pay accordingly. I would be negligent if I tried to quote you rates for coverage with the little amount of information you have provided. A lot of factors go into determining your insurance rate, not just your age. Where you live, what type of vehicle, what you use it for and so on. My suggestion, call around and get quotes.

  20. QUESTION:
What is the average car insurance premium in Mississauga, Canada?
Hi, Can anyone please provide an realistic figure of how much it would cost per month towards car insurance in Mississauga. Checked in the below website and gives a high spike in rate : 0 CAN per month !

    https://www.kanetix.ca/auto-insurance

(Given 5-6 yrs of clean driving history in US)

    • ANSWER:
No one has ever figured that out because it would be a useless figure to the individual. If I told you it was 0 per month, what exactly would you do with that figure? Insurance is rated individually, not on an average. Kanetix is a terrible website, especially considering your situation where you came from the U.S. Contact local insurance brokers, explain your situation and get a quote from them.

  21. QUESTION:
What is the average insurance rate for a 19 year old male in Austin, Tx?
PLEASE give me an actual number, not just how I could find out and what "important information" I left out. I have had no accidents and an attending school and will be buying an average car. Thanks in advance

    • ANSWER:
Assuming your "average car" is paid for, and you want minimum liability, it's GOING to cost you ,000 a year.

If your average car has a loan on it, it's going to cost a lot more, at least double.

Just like when you asked before.

  22. QUESTION:

    • ANSWER:
More Information, please...is this Ontario, CA or Ontario Canada?
Are you a newly licensed driver? Do you live with your parents?
If you are under 18, you cannot enter into a contract with anyone until you are 18 (in CA). Will your parents be buying you the car?

  23. QUESTION:
Are there any sites where I can compare average insurance rates by model?
I want to get an idea of how much it would cost to insure different cars, but I don't want a quote because they will never leave me alone.

    • ANSWER:
Well, when you go to "sites" for that, they are actually harvesting your personal information to sell, to HUNDREDS of agents. So the mistake you're making, when you don't want to be hounded, is trying to do this on the internet.

If you call a few local agents, some captive, some independent, they will give you quotes, the independents can give you quotes for lots of different companies, and they will NOT sell your personal information to other agents, like the "sites" will.

  24. QUESTION:

  26. QUESTION:
How much is the normal rate for the instant car insurance quote for drivers between 18 and 25 ?
Hello i am interested to know how much the average car insurance cost would be for young drivers between 18 and 25 years. can anyone help me please?

    • ANSWER:
      Hi Dawne,

No one is going to be able to tell you the insurance quote like that. You will only find out once you apply. You will need to have your driver information (drivers' license number, legal name, address, accident history, citation history) and you vehicle information (vehicle identification number, license plate number, year, make, model). Once you fill that information, you will get an instant quote.

It also depends if you are looking for minimum liability for your instant car insurance quotes or are you looking for full coverage. What about add-ons? These are all things that should be solidified ahead of time

      Tips and Warning

Get multiple quotes so that you can ensure that you are getting the best deal possible. Do not get hasty and buy the first policy that you come across.

Check local and state laws to make sure the quote you are receiving will fulfill the minimum legal requirements for driving.

Instant car insurance quotes are usually provided by brokers, but you can call many insurance companies directly and sometimes save money through that method.

  27. QUESTION:
What is the average APR for Taxi Insurance?
As the average taxi insurance premium is higher than the average car, is the average interest rate lower for paying via direct debit?

What is the average interest rate offered for taxi insurance?

If you could give exact figures and the companies they relate to that would be very much appreciated.

Also I understand that the bigger the premium lower the interest rate.
    (e.g £0.00 to £2000.00 = 20% APR)

    • ANSWER:
The type of insurance doesnt really matter, this is an issue of premium financing. Most personal auto policies will offer payments, as will many commercial auto, direct-bill companies. You are talking about financing the premium through a third party, basically a loan from a bank for the amount you need for premium. This varies based on the amount financed, your payment/credit history, and the amount your agent is getting off the deal. You are signing a contract and they can give you whatever rate they want. My advice would be to call a few different agents in your area and/or your bank to see who will offer you the least expensive loan.

I agree that Taxi/Limo Insurance is expensive, but that makes sense simply due to the amount of time on the road. Sorry, thats just the way it is.

  28. QUESTION:
Why are my car insurance rates so high?
To start, my girlfriend is insured completely separate from me and in no way affects my policy. My girlfriend was recently in a car accident. This is her second at-fault accident in a 2 year period. Her car was totaled in the accident and she was trying to get quotes for insurnace on a new vehicle she will be financing. She has been getting quotes around 0/mo and below with the history I stated above. She did have one company give her a quote of 0/mo, then State Farm said they could forgive her first accident and she would have to pay around 6/mo

I have never been in an accident, I have never received any type of ticket, I have nothing on my record. Getting a quote on the exact same car (2004 Toyota Rav4), just in my name and with the financing in my name, my quotes average 0. This is insane.

My car is currently going through my parents insurance so I only pay .00/mo to them and it's all good, but I decided to get some quotes on my car just to see how much it would be... The car is a 1994 Toyota Corolla, 4DR sedan. I am 19 years old, will be 20 very soon. Like I said, I have a CLEAN driving history. My quotes on this car are as follows for liability coverage:

    Allstate: 3/mo
    Progressive: 2/mo
    State Farm: 2/mo

Now, to me, this is insane. My girlfriend's insurance was about .00/mo on her Dodge Stratus. She wrecked it. The insurance on her new car, which was only liability again, was just .00/mo. Now she is getting the 5 to 0/mo quote for full coverage on this Toyota Rav4. If anyone can help me understand how she can get cheaper FULL COVERAGE insurance with her driving history than I can get of LIABILITY insurance with my history, please do. This makes no sense to me at all.
Single male under 25 makes a little sense... But if a single male under 25 is more dangerous than a single female under 25 with 2 at-fault accidents on her record, I'm sure you see where this is going. Retarded.

And wow to 0/mo. You must have every negative factor against you location wise, etc.
I live in a small town in Georgia. Definitely far from urban, that's no issue.
All of this helps a lot. I should add too that I own my home. I guess the biggest factors are the fact that I'm a male under 25 with no credit because I never financed anything. I can't afford school, so I'm not getting any student discounts. I just thought it was crazy she could get liability on her 03 Mazda for /mo after wrecking her Stratus and the SAME company told me I would have to pay 0+/mo for liability on my Corolla.

I do appreciate all of the answers and all of the suggested sites from everyone though. I'm still shocked that someone would have to pay 0/mo... Then again, it doesn't surprise me much since some companies quoted me around 0 with several factors in favor of me.

    Thanks for the answers though.

Its because you're a single man under the age of 25

  29. QUESTION:
How can i find out Insurance rates on cars?
is there a certain website which can give me the average amount i need to pay for car insurance on certain cars.
WHAT IF I DONT HAVE CAR INSURANCE

    • ANSWER:
esurance.com lets you input your car's data. They will email you several quotes. Most auto insurance companies have similar calculators, although they probably won't give you info except in person (phone).

Biggest insurers are Allstate and State Farm; call 2 agents and ask for quotes.

  30. QUESTION:
    Teenager boy Car insurance?
i am 17 years old and I just got my license.
I try to get some quotes under my moms name
and it came out to be around 3000 to 5000, in other words,
2 to 4 grand every six month just for me.
How much is normal teenager boy insurance rate it NY State?
One of my friends(they are twins) and they pay 20 total under their parents insurance. They own really creppy car costs like 1700 but still I thought guys under 30 pay the most expensive rate in car insurance.
What exactly is the average rate for teenager boy? I DO NOT Want any recommendation to go get a quote in insurace companies or wutever.

    • ANSWER:
There is no exact rate...it depends on a variety of factors. Will you be a primary driver, what is your and your mom's history (tickets, accidents), what kind of car are you driving. While it IS expensive to insure young men, those rates sound extremely high. Unfortunately, the best way to do it is to have your mom call and shop around to find a better rate...sorry but no one here can give you a single answer.

Well, if you ask that question to Geico personnel or Geico fans, they will certainly say yes. I think you need to read independent reviews about the company. it's not only for Geico, but also for others. I have found a website that would be quite important for you to visit and read the articles that always been updated frequently. Who knows you find what you're looking for up there...

  32. QUESTION:
is the smart car a reliable car?
the smart car is coming out in the usa pretty soon...just wondering if its a reliable car...

also...i know insurance rates are different in other countries but what is the average insurance rate for this car? is it about the same as others?

    • ANSWER:
The Smart's a reliable wee car. Here in UK it's a similar insurance group to the small Fords, Fiats and Renaults which I guess you don't get over there, put it this way, here it's cheaper to insure than a Golf or Focus.
I also admire you for having the courage to drive such a small, economical car in the land of the 10mpg SUV, or are you just going to have it slung off the back of a Chevy Suburban, like a dinghy on a motor launch?!

  33. QUESTION:
car insurance rate for a 16 year old?
i'm going for my license in a couple months, but maybe trying to prepare a little in advance, but i was just wondering the average cost of car insurance per month? i know the younger you are, the more it will be. if it helps, the car i'll use is a ford fusion, and i'm pretty sure my dads insurance is allstate, if that matters much.
i live in PA, and my GPA is about a 3.5, maybe a little higher (or about a B+ or and A- if thats easier)

    • ANSWER:
Well you won't be able to get an exact quote unless you contact the insurance company directly. But generally your insurance will be higher since you are young and a new driver.

Since you mentioned your grades, I would try to see if Allstate or whichever insurance company you will have a policy with, has a "Good Student" discount. That will probably save you a couple of bucks a month.

  35. QUESTION:
    car insurance?
I just got my liscence and my friend told me that car insurance is more expensive for 16 year olds than 17 year olds because they have increased chances of getting into an accident. What are the average rates of insurance for sixteen year olds and is it worth waiting until I am 17 until the prices drop?

    • ANSWER:
I agree with the previous answers, but would add a few ways to drop your insurance rate.

If you are a good student in school, let the insurance company know, many offer good student discounts.

If you haven't taken a drivers ed course, do it. I was amazed at how much inpact one accredited drivers ed class saved. The savings paid for the course.

Make sure you ask the agent if there are any other discounts you may qualify for.

Do not just go with the cheapest insurance. Some insurance companies just don't pay claims well, and the savings will hurt in the long run.

  36. QUESTION:
What is the best source to compare the insurance costs for all model of cars and trucks?
I am looking for a list that has the average insurance rates for different model of cars. I need makes and models listed all together in a single source, and don't have the time to compare just 3 or four models at a time, nor go on line and check out one at a time. I need something in a spreadhsheet, or that I can cut and paste into a spreadsheet.

    • ANSWER:
Best thing you can do for yourself is find a good Insurance Agency in your area.

Agencies do just this for you. They are set up to get you the best rates, and are licensed to write with all the insurance companies. This is what an insurance agency does.

Then, you will have an agency you can turn to when you need advice, change your needs, etc... If you find the right agency, they will take good care of you.

Ask friends and family, maybe they know of a good agency. They are everywhere, just find a good one. An agency licensed to write with many, many companies, at least 10-15.

  41. QUESTION:
To help with uninsured why don't the doctors and hospitals charge an average of medicare and insurance rates?
I know some may argue that people pay in to medicare and the insurance companies, so what the people don't pay the doctors or hospitals. They agree to a reduced menu. like a doctors visit may pay whereas Joe the Plumber coming off the street may get hit with 0. A day stay n the hospital charges Medicare 0, but an uninsured over a grand.

Granted you can negotiate with them and get your bill reduced but still just going to a clinic can wreck a minimum wage earners budget. Seems to me this is a great idea.

Yes i know they will say that Medicare and insurance companies represent a bunch of people, but so what there are more uninsured. It's like going to a car dealership now and paying sticker price, no discounts, rebates or perks.

YOu wouldn't go to a car dealer ship and say you'll take the new car with the sticker on it would you ? i know people that go to shoe stores and walk out with five ten bucks off the price, but are told "don't tell anybody". like drugs at pharmacies they really pop you unless you check around abut since they import them from India now most have the five dollar a holler pills, but some still will charge a peron full bore without a card or insurance etc.

Wonder why no one in Washington our Senate or House or even the administrations have ever thought of this. Hmm.......

    • ANSWER:
It's an old idea, but how about people make arrangements to pay their medical bills monthly.

Most hospitals and clinics do not charge interest in the first place, and are usually happy to make arrangements.

Never ever pay a medical bill with a credit card, and that's where a lot of people mess up. Once you put your medical bills on a credit card, you owe interest and fees. Again most medical facilities do not charge interest or fees.

Whether you make arrangements or not, PAY SOMETHING each time you are sent a bill. Five dollars will keep the collectors at bay, but you should still make arrangements no matter how low you need the payments to be.
EX; A 0 bill- send and keep doing it every time a bill is sent.

      http://www.ehow.com/how_4464666_pay-hospital-bills-insurance.html

There's a big difference between an adult who can't seem to pay 0 and a person who has serious problems and has ,000 in medical bills.

To answer your question, hospitals and doctors use insurance to make a profit, and it's still a profit after the "so-called" discounts. Patients with insurance tend to want and/or get more "care" than those without insurance. Also, insurance is given a "so-called" discount because it's like guaranteed money. Hospitals and doctors know with some certainty that money is on the way with a patient who has insurance. A patient without insurance doesn't come with any certainty that a medical bill will be paid.

  42. QUESTION:
Car insurance companies ask what the use of the vehicle will be, whats the best answer?
I am buying a car, though I probably won't use it to commute everyday, only for long trips out of the city. I noticed that insurance companies on their quotes ask what the car will be used for. I'm not even sure myself how the car will be used on average, what answer gets the lowest rate? Some examples are "Commuting to Job" "Commuting to School" "Pleasure/recreation" "Business"

    • ANSWER:
The lowest rate does you no good, if the claim is denied because you lied on the application.

And, they're going to check milage.

No commuting gets the lowest rate - pleasure use only. But only if you put less than 5K miles on the car every year.

  44. QUESTION:
    florida residents only!!!!?
i would like 2 move from nyc to florida. but people are telling me that there are no jobs there! is that true? and from personal experience how is it living out there? is it expensive? how much are cigs out there? whats the average car insurance rate?

    • ANSWER:
The best reason to move to FL is for the weather or if you already have a job. The big cities have just as many jobs as other ones.

      Just like anywhere else:
      - Jobs are all about the market you're in and what you have to offer. Skilled workers are always in demand.
      - Insurance will depend on where you live (crime, location, etc)
      - Gas in Naples is slightly below national average (again, depends on where you go)
      - My car insurance is 0/yr for full coverage on a 2007 Toyota Highlander
      - Cost of living is decent. No income tax, shopping is everywhere, and real estate is very affordable right now.
      - It is NOT too hot here. We just tell northerners that to keep them from staying too long. You get used to it after 2 summers, everywhere you go has AC, and the North has a lot more rolling black outs during the hot weather. Today (6/10) it is supposed to be high 90's/low 100's up north (Boston, NJ, NYC). In 10 years, I don't remember it getting that hot down here.

The main reason I moved here was for all the close places to vacation. Orlando, Daytona, Tampa, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Key West, Key Largo, St. Augustine, and hundreds of beaches all over the state. Everyplace is less than a days drive, most within a few hours, depending on where you live. It's great when you're able to go away any & every weekend to the places people up North strive all year to get to.

Everyplace has it's pluses & minuses. Choose your location carefully, give it a chance (it will be nothing like NYC), and realize some people are only happy where they're from.

  45. QUESTION:
Average cost for motorcycle insurance for a 16 year old?
i know that the rates will be very expensive for a street bike for a 16 year old first rider, but i just want a round about. i have car insurance with state farm so thats who i would get the insurance through. from what i found it will probably be better to start on a dual sport bike rather than a sport bike due to the cost of insurance and the possibility of not being able to get insured due to my age. i want to get a street bike, but i know insurance would be nearly affordable.

    • ANSWER:
There is no average cost. Hundreds and hundreds of variables that only YOU can answer when YOU contact insurance companies for rate quotes.
Your insurance will be less expensive with a dual sport over a sport bike. But, given you are a brand new rider with zero experience, quotes for insurance will be expensive to very expensive. I am about 99.99% certain you will need your parents to sign for the insurance.

  46. QUESTION:
would a pontiac grand prix have high insurance?
the car is a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix SE 4 Door Sedan. I am 24. Would a car like this generally have higher insurance rates than average?

    • ANSWER:

  47. QUESTION:
    Teenage Car insurance Impossible?
For starters I am for the most part completely ignorant as to the workings of Car insurance or really.. anything involving cars.. so bare with me.. I'm trying to figure out how to get insurance as a primary driver

I'm an 18 year old male still in school with a full G license, the car is a 1995 ford model worth only.. 1000 $ max, it's 2 door, I have a 75%+ average in school, I have no prior accidents or tickets. Essentially perfect as far as all the "variables" that effect insurance rates go. Yet when i got quotes online they are still telling me I have to pay 380 $ monthly. What the fuck? On average I only make about 400 or 500 a month.. adding on gas money to that my cost of living is practically negative from just drive to and from work?

So I guess what I'm asking is.. Is teenage car insurance even possible without help from mommy and daddy or dropping school to work more? Can anyone link me or give me the name of auto-insurance companies that give the best rates for Teens? Anything in the 2000-3000 $ range a year would be perfect
    I Live in canada
I'm not exactly looking for people to tell me It's expensive, i am aware of this fact. I would appreciate if any drivers my age or had insurance at my age tell me how they managed it, or which insurance companies supports (Cheaper for) young drivers

2- Mitsubishi Eclipse Gt ( or SE if insurance is too high)
    3- VW GTI

These are my top 3, however I want to see others. What are some good 1st cars, with somewhat low or average insurance rates. But I don't want a snail like the honda fit.
