      Your best bet is to just to obtain a bunch of different quotes from different insurance companies and compare. Premimums vary depending on locations, past driving history and other factors. I use Geico right now because it was the cheapest one I found, but that doesn't necessary mean that it would be the cheapest place for you. You need to do some research.

      If your parents are/were in the military, then USAA can be very competitive. Progressive and Geico can also be competitive, if you fit in their "model."

      AIG, Safeco and Mercury Insurance (if you live in CA) are competitive, but can sometimes be tough if you have a claim. If you live in PA or NY, Erie Insurance is very competitive.

      I would go to an independent agent's office with your parents, and get a bunch of quotes. A good agent can sometimes know which companies like young drivers, and can also find discounts (like good student, driving school, multiple policy) that you may not have known about.

      The key is to shop around a lot. You may be shocked at how much your insurance costs.

      On the phone you simply have to say that you have a cheaper quote but prefer them so what can they do?
      Getting Dad to illegally and fraudulently be the main driver when you really are will make you both criminals.       You probably aren't going to be able to find anything comparable to what you have now.

      You are getting discounts and credits under your current policy that you won't get on your own.

      Look around to your local independent agents (those that represent several different companies). They will be able to give you several different prices to choose from.

      Be sure to tell these folks that while you haven't had a policy of your own, you have been listed as a driver on your mom's policy (assuming that is the truth) and therefore have been insured. The company will want proof, so be sure to get a copy of your mom's policy with you isted as a driver. Otherwise, the insurance company will charge you more for not having continuous coverage.

      Well, it depends. Nationwide might be the best for him, but not for you. Depends on your credit score, your driving record, whether you own or rent, the coverages on your vehicles, your liability limits, deductables, the ages of the drivers, where you live, how much you drive etc etc etc. I would suggest calling an independent agent and asking for a quote. They represent more than one company so they can put you in the company that best suits your needs.

      Typically, insurance rates are filed by the various insurance companies that are licensed to do business in your State, and they vary from State to State.

      The best thing to do is call a LOCAL independent agent. Just look in the phone book for the PIA or Big I (Trusted Choice) logos and you will find a professional licensed agent that will be able to help you solve your insurance problems, and give you rate comparisons of several different companies.

      An independent insurance agent will normally have a dozen different companies and if he cannot help you, he should be networked with other local agents that can.

      In my agency, we have companies that specialize in young drivers and it is normally less expensive to be added to the parents' policy. Since your parents are not licensed, I presume that they don't have a policy to be added to.......so, what you might have to do is find a company that will EXCLUDE the named insured. Now all the "gurus" that hang out on this site, and lot of the other "know it alls" will say "OH YOU CAN'T DO THAT!!!!" but we have DONE that especially if the owner of the car is blind or has some other malady that keeps him them from driving.

      Since you are only 17, you won't be able to have your OWN policy since you cannot sign a contract until you reach 18 - and an insurance policy IS a contract. So, back to my original questions...WHEN do you turn 18? You might have to end up waiting until then if the company won't excluded your parents!

      I have used Progressive for many years, and if they are doing business in Maryland, they might be a carrier to contact. I am more familiar with the "independent agent" version of Progressive, but, don't see why they wouldn't write it direct by calling 1-800-PROGRESSIVE and explain the situation to them.

      Most of the replies on this site say "go to this on-line carrier or that on-line carrier or that 1-800 number" but I'm sure that when you do, you'll find that MOST of them aren't going to insure a 17 year old by themselves.

      Oh....and no one really cares WHAT color your car is.....makes do difference in the rate (however RED does stand out MORE in a crowd!

      SAGA would be worth checking but other than that there is no particular best one..
      I got a good deal recently with Adrian Flux so also worth a try but can't guarantee anything as the insurance market changes daily.

      The best thing to do is shop around. Use all the comparison sites you can, try other insurers which aren't listed and even then, haggle!

      Some companies target young drivers and say they give you the best prices....... doesn't mean they actually do though!

      BEWARE: Lying about anything to make it cheaper can invalidate your insurance. That means you're effectively driving without valid insurance, which is illegal. Eg. Keeping your car in a locked garage can save you money.... but if you don't have a garage and say you do - they will find out eventually (if your car get's stolen for example!)

      Allstate, State Farm, and Infinity are all great insurance companies for compensation in an accident. Infinity insures the best for the lowest price. I would never choose Traveler's Insurance because they give you a great hassle over compensation. Plus, Traveler's also tells you that they are paying you one thing and end up paying a great deal lower. We had an accident with Traveler's Insurance and had been paying on ,000 coverage on the interior contents on a conversion van (extra besides the value of the van) and, when it came down to the compensation, they only paid 00 on the interior contents (that were valued at around 00-,000) along with the book value of the van. Traveler's was also charging me waaaaaaay more than any other insurance. So we were lied to by that company. E-surance is another company that is great and it costs less.

      If you’ve tried all the comparison sites then you’ve probably done enough unless you requirements are of a specialist nature such as a Japanese Import or something.

      However, if you wish to keep trying then not all companies are on the comparison sites.

      Direct Line states they aren’t on any comparisons sites and many brokers aren’t either.

      Obviously you want the best price but you need to be confident your getting good cover and excellent backup service. A local broker may not be the cheapest but you can always go and see them and easily judge the quality of service before you buy.

      Anyone can quote you a cheap price but are they there when you need help later on?

The problem is, that over the years teens have been seen as a high risk because of their inexperience and lack of roadcraft.       the best way is to first decide what you want ie courtesy car windscreen cover how much excess etc and then look around for the best deal and make sure your comparing like for like.

      Pick up your yellow pages and look up insurance. Depending on the size of your city...,.... you may have several pages to go through. I've found that a mutual insurance company can be the best at keeping your rates low.

      you can't really go by the size of a company to get the best rates or the best company for that matter. your rates depend on a lot of things, not just the company. the best thing you can do is call an independent agent in your area and get them to check their companies for you. they write for a lot of companies and can find the best company, best rate for you. its a good thing to have a local agent too, so if you ever need help or have to make a claim, you have someone working for you who knows you and is local.

      Based on personal experience, if you have a clean driving record, check out AAA. I had both Farmers and Allstate here in Reno but when my rates went up even though I had a good record with them I shopped and found AAA better. Geico was actually higher than I wanted to pay, I guess they have to pay for all those gecko lizard commercials. I perfer to have a local company to deal with because if you ever do need to make a claim it is a lot easier to deal with. I know you might get some lower rates from internet insurance businesses but I personally perfer to deal with a local agent.

      Call a local independent agent in your area. they write for a lot of companies and will do the research for you to find the best company at the best rate. stay away from "do it yourself" policies online. they NEVER come in at the rate quoted. its always best to have an agent handle things for you so that you have them locally when you need help and they-re aware of you and your needs.
