Budget Car Insurance Quote

Majority of the people in the world have debts. Some of them have large debts. Even business tycoons have debts, the amounts of which are staggering to the average person. Yet, these business tycoons are not criticized when they apply for more loans. This is because we assume them to have a team of experts who will do the budgeting for them.

Budgeting is an important task so that a person can manage his financial affairs. A person need not hire a team for this task. Budgeting can be done by anyone who is determined to fix his financial situation.

A person who is about to undertake budgeting must essentially know two important data: The amount of money that comes in every month when all the taxes are deducted. And the total amount of money spent every month based on receipts or payment stubs. But the person need not determine the exact amounts down to the last centavo. What he needs is a good estimate.

Once the person obtains the two vital information described above, he will realize whether he was spending more than he earns or he was spending within his financial capacity. The latter implies that he probably has no serious financial troubles. But the former means that he needs to cut back on expenses. And here, the nitty gritty part of budgeting begins. The person has to decide on how much he needs to spend and on what important things he will spend his money. The “importance” of something will vary from one person to another. Any person who is weighing the importance of an object needs only to be honest with himself and not base his decisions on the opinion of others. Of course, there is no harm in asking for advice.

Budgeting, however, is a journey over rocky roads. Sometimes a person can follow his plans or meet his dues by the skin of his teeth. But sometimes, he encounters emergencies or problems that will completely destroy his budget. For example, his house needs unexpected repairs. Obviously, a big slice of his budget will go to the cost of repairs. This will leave him with no choice but to live on bread alone for the rest of the week. If he chooses not to have his house fixed, he may be facing freezing temperatures or a scarcity of water. Caught in such a dire situation, he may give up budgeting altogether and take up a “come what may” attitude.

A payday loan can help his budget. The loaned amount will cover the cost of repairing the house. In the meantime, he is given time to reduce his next expenses. He is also given the chance to make a new budget based on his next payday.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
What's your best car insurance quote? I'm with Budget at the mo, (ending in Sept) .....?
paid £314 fully comp with business use (got 7 years no claims bonus and 3 points on my liscense for speeding which shouldn't be counted now cos was back in 2003) Went on moneysupermarket.com and Budget gave me a quote for £177, still all the same details so why the £137 price difference? you can bet my renewel quote will be rubbish, it only dropped by £40 last year but couldn't be bothered with the hassle of paying new company deposit etc. What site would you recommend for cheap insurance? other than Confused.com

Sorry this ended up being really long winded.
    insurance is for a '95 Rover 414.

    • ANSWER:
First of all - you will have to declare your speeding for another year (it takes 5 years to be spent)

Secondly - Budget are notorious in the industry for adding fees onto renewal letters - you probably have to pay a £20 renewal fee and £25.00 for legal expenses and if you pay by instalments an additional £30 for that! I suspect that:

      a) The quote online is for pleasure use with a high excess or assumes other factors. Alternatively the quote may be through a different company with which Budget have an agency and Budget haven't bothered to check the market on your behalf.
      b) They won't charge an admin fee for new business
      c) They probably throw in the legal expenses free (it only costs them a pound!

I would look in the telephone directlry and find a local insurance broker - they will have the same agencies as Budget and you are far more likely to get a better service from them - all of which counts as well as the price.

  2. QUESTION:
help finding a car insurance quote?
I'm doing a project for my economics class where I have to pretend to be a 22 year old living on my own and make a monthly budget for myself. I have to find a car insurance and health insurance quote, but everywhere I search asks for personal information and has to search through my records and credit to give me the right quote.
I'm only 17 so they wouldn't find anything on me.
    I need it for a 22 year old making 27,000 a year.
    Please help me!
10 points to the best answer :)

    • ANSWER:
Call your parents insurance agent. Tell him or her that you are working on a class project. I'm sure that they would be happy to give you a pretty accurate estimate of the cost of auto and health insurance for a 22 year old.

  3. QUESTION:
What would my car insurance be?
I am 16, female, first time getting insurance. I am thinking about getting a convertible, would my insurance be more? If so about how much more? But black or blue, not red or yellow. One of my friends is my age/sex and hers is about 0/mo. Would mine be about the same, give or take a little? I am trying to come up w/ a budget and see what I can afford so any help will be greatly appreciated! Every "free insurance quote" site you must fill in your EXACT car type or be 18+, I have already tried that.
I am in the US, in a small town (about 5000). I will add myself to my parents' insurance but i'm not sure what that is or if their car/house is the same. Thx for the help everyone!

    • ANSWER:
Well, sorry to say, but to get some idea of a price for insurance, you really need to know what kind of car. Find a couple you like and might be able to afford and call around. The best place to start is your parent's auto ins. company, especially at your age. Pretty much anything is going to be high at your age.

Here's what you need for an auto quote - name, date of birth, soc. sec. #, address, type of car, & coverages you want. You do NOT WANT TO POST SUCH PERSONAL INFORMATION IN AN OPEN FORUM LIKE THIS. I am an agent in Tennessee and unless you live in TN, my rates would be meaningless. As far as the convertible goes, it probably would be higher, most convertibles are. COLOR DOES NOT MATTER.

  4. QUESTION:
Cheap car & insurance for young male driver?
Cheap car & insurance for young male driver?
My brother is 23. He has passed his licence 2 years ago and his pass plus 1 1/2 years ago. He's still struggling to find a car & insurance that he can afford. He's not fussy about the type of car so long as it's not a girls car (ie chiqichenco). The insurance can be third party etc. He has a budget of £400 for the car, what should he buy? The insurance quotes so far for various 1.0l-1.3l cars have all been over £1000 which is out of his price range.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    xxx

    • ANSWER:
The only reason he's getting quotes as cheap as £1000 is because he's over 21. New drivers are usually £2k+, he'll not get much better than that I'm afraid.

  5. QUESTION:
17 year old student Car Insurance for a Ford Fiesta 1.25 or a 1.4 climate 2004-2005?
    Insurance for a Ford Fiesta 1.25 or a 1.4 climate 2004-2005

I need reasonable car insure I have no “no claims bonus” and I am new driver. I have been quoted around £4000 fully com on a £4000 car. My budget for insurance is around £1400 full or third party. I am an A level Law student I will going to uni next year and I might use the car to commute to there

    • ANSWER:
      This is simple:
If your budget is £1400 then get *third party only* and be very careful how you drive your nice £4000 car as if you dent it through your fault you fix it with your wallet.
      That's it.
You could even get a £750 car and keep the £3250 in your wallet and when/if you dent it it won't be such a big deal.
In fact you might need to do that as your insurance might even be over 2 grand even if it's only third party.
And yeah you WILL dent it, 99.92% sure, according to general statistics.

There's plenty of UK insurers here, it's free to get quotes:

  6. QUESTION:
    Canada Car Insurance?
    Hi
I am trying to find a rough estimate for car insurance in Toronto. The insurance should be for a normal car, like a ford focus 2000 model. I have 4 years no-claims, married and is 28. I hold a full license (British and South African) and will apply for an Ontarian one when I get there. If anyone has a similar details, please give me your insurance quote...it does not have to be spot on. I got some from websites, but they all seem to be 0+/m which is very high...I only pay £42 (ish) in England, which is already very high as I paid R110 (£8.50ish) in South Africa.

This is for my budget to see what I can expect over there.

    Thanks

What is the cheapest car insurance for teens to buy themselves?
I'm 19 years old and shortly will buy my own car. I'm trying to be independent and need to buy my own affordable car insurance for my car. The quotes from name brand insurance co. like geico and progressive are between 0-00/mo. That is so crazy and obviously cannot afford that. Does anybody know where I can find reasonable priced insurance (non name brands) that just covers the minimum? My budget is 0 and less. BTW, I live in SouthFlorida.
FYI: I actually just got my driver license and never drove before!!

    • ANSWER:
In South Florida, there are way too many agencies pushing bad insurance. You need to call and find an agent who will talk to you. You only need PIP, Property damage, and (yes really) Bodily Injury (not required untill 2 seconds after you havean accident, so get it). You do not need nor have to take legal coverages, accidental death, towing, or hospitalization. Many agencies push these with financeing. Don't be pushed.

  9. QUESTION:
    car insurance refund?
I bought car insurance in march 2010 and had to phone them to change my address. As presumed i had to pay administraton fee of £30 which i did not mind> On top of that they said because i have moved to another area it will be a further £194, when i have looked online with the same company (Budget) the insurance is only £240 for the year in the new area, so in other words they are gonna charge me over an extra 150 when it should only be 50 to be the same as the online quote. They have told me this is for new customers only, how can this be. So i have cancelled with them and now they say i cannot have a refund because i am breaking a contract, when i paid £180 upfront. Surely this cannot be right>
I am going to complain to customer services, but who else will advise me of this as i will not let this drop, they cannot rip me off for £150 surely and get away with it.

    Any help please.

    • ANSWER:
That depends on your contract with the insurance company but most of the insurance provider return the money when you call them to cancel. I will suggest to read the contract and the link below.

  10. QUESTION:
Is a car dealership allowed to let you drive off the lot with liability insurance?
I am in quite a situation, I financed a 2004 Ford Mustang 40th Anniversary Edition car from a local car dealership in South Carolina. When I got my loan they told me my payment would be 261.00, I told them I wasn't familiar with what sort of insurance I needed and they offered to set it up for me. They called Geico and then told me my insurance would be 150 a month, I got out a pen and added 261 and 150 and decided to get the car because it fit into my budget. 4-5 months later I get a letter from the bank telling me I have the wrong insurance and I need full coverage which will cost me about 520 a month instead of 150. I can't afford that insurance and the lowest quote I can get is for 380 which is still to much. My question is, is this a matter I could get a lawyer and sue over? My credit is completely destroyed now because I can't afford the car / insurance so I can't just trade it in and get a new car financed. I also have no one to co-sign for me. 10pts to most helpful ans.

    • ANSWER:
The answer to the title of your question is simple. Yes, the dealership can let you drive off without liability. Dealerships will need proof of insurance to get a deal funded from the bank and in that circumstance, the dealerships have insurance companies that will issue a binder that is just comp and collision. The reason for this is because the banks want insurance to protect the car. These binders though are generally only good for roughly 10 days. Thats the bad news, Now I have been in the car business for over 25 years, and here in Los Angeles, where premiums are some of the highest in the country, I have never heard of car insurance being that high even if the customer was young, but with a dui or 2 maybe. I have insurance people that write with companies like state farm that could get you full coverage here for about 120 a month. You need to deal with agents directly and not brokers. Most companies like geico and AIS and others like that are not insurance companies themselves, but are just insurance brokers. Unfortunatly for you, there is no legal action that you can take you are just stuck. But if you would like, email me and I will talk with one of our agents and if they can write policies for where you live, then I will put you in touch with them. I am sorry this has been a bad experience because buying and enjoying a car is supposed to be fun. Take care and let me know if you have any more questions.

  11. QUESTION:
    Guess our car insurance?
Primary driver: 24, perfect driving record, female, some college completed but no degree

The car: Something mediocre from the late 80s to late 90s

The insurance: Minnesota, metro area, daily 10-20 mile commute each way, we want all the proper liability and personal injury coverage but don't care about collision

Seriously, just guess. We'll take any ideas. We completely know it varies by each of those factors and many more, and we already know the national average. If you know the state average, that's one step up on us.

I'd get a quote, but my roommate is the one seriously thinking about cars right now, and I don't want to do anything in someone else's name. She'll be getting quotes soon, but right now I'm a little concerned about the insurance companies possibly running credit checks, as I'm under the impression a slew of them at a time can lower your score, and we don't know what car we're getting yet. So once that's settled, we'll check into it for real.

We just want to TRY to budget before we seriously car hunt.

  12. QUESTION:
Does Progressive have an option to cover insurance if I rent a car ('cause I didn't see it on their website)?
Hi, I'm looking to rent a car. Now, I know that the optional car insurance offered by these car rental companies like Budget and Enterprise are pretty expensive. But I am renting a car because I don't have a car (renting for short term usage) and I have never had one, which means that I never have had car insurance.

I was on the Progressive website to "get a free quote/buy" but one of the many questions they ask is what car do I have and also if I'm : 1) leasing it 2) own it, but make payments (installments, rather), and 3) own it, but don't make payments. The last two options don't apply to me, although would renting a car qualify as leasing it? If so, what "kind of car" should I put in since I have no idea what the specific make of car that will be available for me to rent. Or is this something I fill out after I rent the car (but of course, rentals won't give away a car if the customer doesn't show proof of being covered by car insurance).

If you didn't notice, this is the first time I'm going about these things. One last question while I'm on this topic--I currently have health insurance through the Blue Shield Blue Cross company. I heard Progressive also provides health insurance, so would it be cheaper if I had to take health insurance as well as auto insurance from Progressive/a similar company that specializes in auto insurance but also offers health insurance?

Please help me. Thanks so much in advance!

  13. QUESTION:
Is the following a good deal for a car?
i'll try to explain this as best as I can!! Tomorrow, I'm seeing a 2004 Peugeot 206, Engine 1.1, electric windows, remote central locking, CD player, power steering, ABS, done 29,000 miles - last service history at 25,000 miles, next one at 35,000 miles. Just one previous owner. Priced as £3,495, but going on finance. Insurance quoted at £1,012 - I'm a 23 year old male, only had my for license five months. This would be my first car. Basically my budget for everything (insurance, breakdown, parking permit and tax, plus car) is £2,500. Insurance, breakdown, tax and permit comes to £1,200. So that leaves me with £1,300 from my budget (£2,500 - £1,200), which taken off the price of the car is £2,195 (3,495 - 1,300) which I'm going to pay over 36 months. That works out at £61 a month, which I think is good? My friend recommended the seller as she's bought from him before and has had no problems. I've been to several garages in the area and you're looking at at least £1,500 for a V/W reg car, with insurance about £1,500/£1,600. So we're talking £300 more for a 5-years younger car! Anyone got any advice for me? This is of course on proviso that the car is in good nick! Thanks, ciao!!
    Sorry, that makes me look thick! Total for everything to do with the Peugeot is £4,720 (£3495 + £1012 + £125 + £25 + £63) as opposed to about (£1500 + £1500 + £125 + £25 + £63). So it's about £1,500 more in total, but as I say 5 years younger!

    • ANSWER:
You don't say what model it is, but £3495 is stupid money for a 2004 Pug 206!!!

  14. QUESTION:
How to reduce my car insurance?
    Hey people,

I'm 18, living with parents, just got my licence in the UK about 4 months ago. So I went out today and bought a 1.0 engine size KIA PICANTO. Heres the annoying part...we've been looking for insurance within our budget (realistically £1500p/a), All companies we've looked at have been giving us quotes of about £3500 which I find astonishing for a 1.0!! We've tried confused, admiral, churchill and compare the market. We've tried putting my parents as the main drivers and its still too expensive. Looks like pass plus is also useless! However, its the latest edition. It's a 2011 KIA picanto....do you think maybe if I returned the car and purchased something from 2004-05, insurance would drop to a reasonable rate? I do have loads of friends who managed to get car insurance below £1000!!

    Many thanks

    • ANSWER:
where i'm from we have public insurance. when you drive well for a number of years, you pay less. up to 33 percent less. i'm sure most companies out there have that too. just be warned, you're gonna have to pay more at first, but the safer driver you are, the more likely you are to pay less on most plans

  15. QUESTION:
how much is car and home insurance?
sorry this is kinda long.. but...
im doing a project for economics class. and we have to figure out our future, like make a resume and a job app a cover letter, and all this other stuff after we picked a career we are interested in doing with our lives. so, we have to figure out our budget like housing stuff, housing bills, transportation like car insurance and car payment. investing and miscelaneous like cell phone bills internet and entertainment to name a few..

after this. we take our total monthly net pay, and subtract our total monthly expenses and thats our remaining income just for whatever.

but i am having trouble finding house insurance, and car insurance. all i am getting from searching is quotes, and i dont need that.. i jus need a straight up dollar amount. if anyone can help.. that would be great.. thanks.
the career i have is a computer software engineer, applications..
    my gross salary is 69,857
this is the 2nd time im taking the class.. i failed it the first time,, and if i dont pass it this time i fail and i dont graduate.. which is embarrassing.. but. this project pretty much determines my life. and ive spent the last 8 1/2 hours working on it..

and i will update you with the grade i get. as soon as i get it back.. though its not due till the 21st this month

    • ANSWER:
Well, it depends on the car and the home, and your claims history, and the credit score.

For the economics class, figure the car insurance for a 20 year old is equal to the car payment. 00 a year if there's no car payment.

And for house insurance, figure 1% of the value of the house.

It's not accurate, the insurance people here would string me up, but those numbers will work JUST FINE for a class assignment.

Insurance is not an issue as I have gotten quotes on all these cars and they meet budget costs. Any help is appreciated.

  20. QUESTION:
    Knotty Insurance problems?
Do bear with me, this problem is a bit long winded.

My brother passed his test a couple months back. He has bought himself a car and is currently shopping around for insurance. He has hit roadblocks with companies that won't insure new drivers, people under 18 (he is 17 at present), both of the former, or their quote is over his budget.

His new tactic has been been to convince me to be named driver on his car, with him as additional named driver, to drive the cost down to a more reasonable level. While this sounds fine in practice, I'm quite concerned about my own (albeit low) no-claims bonus.

    My question is two-fold;
    1) If he crashes, will my no-claims bonus be affected on my original insurance quote with the same company?
    2) Does anyone know of any good student related insurance companies that he could use?

    Many thanks
Thank you all for the helpful and honest responses. Does anyone think they can help with the second part of my question, where he would be sole named driver of the car?

    • ANSWER:
You have right to be concerned as what your brother is asking you to do by being a main driver is called fronting and is fraud. You both could face prosecution and he is driving around with a void insurance policy if it is his car. On his own car he MUST be the policy holder and named as the main driver.

  22. QUESTION:
The price of buying a car?
I'm about to buy a car (Chevy Cobalt 2006-2008). I already got a quote from my insurance (USAA). I know my insurance will be about 0 for 6months. But what else do I have to pay for other then gas, insurance? What else should I budget in? I have never brought a car and my parents won't help me. They want me to wait until I'm done college, but I need a car to get back and forward to drill for the National Guard. I have no clue what I'm doing so can someone please explain it to me. Thank you

    • ANSWER:
Your looking at a late model used Chevy Cobalt.

      1. First is the Insurance. That will be your largest expense.
Try and get at least three(3) quotes from different companies.
      2. Another thing to look at with a three year old car is the
manufacturers original equipment. The new Cars that I've
bought over the last 30 years seem to have this in common.
Stock tires seem to only last for 35,000. The battery seems to
only last 36 months. If the old owner hasn't replaced these
then you might want to keep that in mind. My estimate would
be 0 to 0 for everything.
      3. Maintenance, you'll either have to do it your self or go to one
of those full service places. That will set you back the best
part of a 50 dollar bill every 3 months.
      4. Car washing, either do it yourself or it will cost you the best
      part of 20 dollar bill.
      5. Almost forgot. When you buy a car you'll have to register it.
That means buying plates and paying sales tax. The old
TT&L. Some States allow you to fiance this into the price
of the car and the dealer will make the payment. Other States
will not allow this. Whenever I buy a car this is what happens.
I go down and register for a new plate . Pay the sales tax.
My sales tax is %7.25. So for a car costing ,000 the tax is
5 plus another for the plate. Does your State have a
personal property tax? That's another yearly tax you pay.

Anyway Insurance will be your biggest expense shop wisely.

Almost forgot this too. Try and get a car that still has the manufacturers warranty remaining. Do not buy an extended warranty from a third party vendor. These are not worth the paper they're written on. RIP OFF!
Budget for repairs yourself. Most 2 to 3 year old cars will not have that many mechanical problems. GM products tend to be a crap shoot when it comes to reliability. You could get one that will run perfectly for 10 years or get one that brakes down every 6 months.

  23. QUESTION:
Can you help me come up with a decent savings plan on a low budget?
I just recently started working again. It's only a minimum wage job, but to me it's better than nothing. My hours will vary each week, as it is a part time cashier job. So, while I may get great hours and a nice check one week, the next week may not be so great. I'm basically taking over for someone who got fired not long ago, and (my fiance works there as well) after looking over past schedules I noticed that some weeks she worked 5 days, others only 2.

Anyway, we just bought me a car for 0. My fiances dad helped us with most of it, and I already have plans for paying that back. However, the car does need work, which my fiance is going to do himself (he's a mechanic on the side, since jobs are scarce). We have already taken care of most of the parts needed for repairs, minus a few odd things here and there.

What I need to do, is save up enough to get the car registered, insured and inspected (ny state). I want to get it all done at once. I have not got an insurance quote just yet, but I am planning on saving at least 0 total for all of this if I can.

Is there any way to plan this, even just the slightest bit? Should I take a certain percentage out of each of my checks? Bear in mind that we do have other sources of income, but they are designated for other things. Thanks so much for any help!
Sassy, YES 0 is more than enough for this car. I have already looked into these things. My fiance's 87 Camaro (red) was put on the road recently, and it was only around to register, and 0 to insure for 6 months. He falls in the high risk age range, and had 1 or 2 tickets on his records when this was done. I have no tickets, have never been in an accident. I will have enough when the time comes.

  25. QUESTION:
    Recommended First Car?
Hey guys, just turned 17 and parents have offered to pay for my car and first years insurance.
I have been looking at some online and getting quotes, however I would like to ask here what people would recommend and what they would avoid.
I have been told that they will pay £2000 for the car itself, however I think I will set the budget at £1500.
Being a young driver insurance is high, so keep that into consideration.
Thank you very much for your time, and I am looking forward to some suggestions.
    Cheers,
    Adam
Timbo, I said £2000 for the car. Not car + Insurance.

    • ANSWER:
Car insurance of £2000 minimum will swallow the budget.

and i hav no clue on how to do this...so help would be a LIFESAVER!

i hav 750 a month to spend. and i havta find

im tryin to look for the cheapest car in KBB.COM

any one kno the cheapest car brand sold
    i.e: saab, kia, dogde, acura
I DONT KNO ANY CHEAP ONES PLEASE HELP

    • ANSWER:
Easy Loan calculator at www.mfautosport.com/resource. htm also includes links to a few insurance carriers if you are looking to go down that route.

Depending on how much drivers ed insurance is, 750 a month is plenty to buy a car with. Most new will cost about 3-400 a month. That being said.

      In My Humble Opinion:
Most Dependable - Toyota, Get a Camry
Decent for Cheaper - Chevy Impala, Chevy Malibu
Another Good One - Hyundai Sonata, Hyundai has come a long way in the last ten years, quality and appearance

In my opinion stay the heck away from Kia period, they are just too cheaply built from what I've seen, too many problems.

Saab, Acura, not really what you are looking for, these are more cars for the prestigious crowd, also Volvo, BMW, and Lexus are to much money for what you need.

Whatever you buy, don't buy the smallest car that is on the lot, the small cars won't be comfortable for any more than two people, unless the driver moves seat way ahead, and that isn't really a good idea for a long legged driver that is just learning.

  27. QUESTION:
Is buying an auto insurance online a good idea?
I just bought a car last week (new). I've been getting online quotes from various insurance companies. Some local ones are way out of my budget (some ranging around 00 for a 6 month policy). I've found one I'm interested in but the location is all the way in San Diego, Ca while I'm up in Berkeley, Ca. That means I need a plane ticket to personally speak w/ an agent. I'm not into the phone calls, it seems the prices increases.

The insurance company is Progressive, I've checked customers reviews, some good some bad. Pretty much it seems all insurance companies are the same. Customer reviews say the same, from Statefarm to progressive, it depends on luck I guess.

    • ANSWER:
If you know what you're doing, it's fine.

But most of the time, when you buy online, the price changes - most of those places just harvest your personal information to sell to agents, as leads.

They aren't "rates", they are "indications". Then when you go to actually BUY the policy, it changes after tehy do your credit check.

Progressive is a great company. You can call the 800 number, talk to them directly, and do everything online or by mail. Keep in mind, most people unhappy with claims, are unhappy because they did do it yourself insurance, and didn't understand what they bought.

Oh, you CAN find a Progressive agent near you, using the agent locator button on their web page. You can walk in, and get coverage bound immediately.

  28. QUESTION:
    Non-owners SR-22 insurance?
I know it varies vastly by region and situation, but I need to get non-owners SR-22 insurance (I don't own a car, but I do need to drive occasionally). I thought I had read somewhere that it's not too expensive, but I can't seem to find any sort of information on it. If it helps, I'm in Wisconsin. I can provide more info if people need it to help. (I'm not looking for a specific quote, just what sort of range I should expect and how much of a dent this'll make in my budget)

  29. QUESTION:
Im a 17 yo male and plan on buying a hyundai coupe 1.6 2005 (05 reg), but its performance seems turtle like?
Hi, i was soon going to be getting this as my first car until i saw performance details for it and so i need some advice. It does 0-60mph in a slow 11.9 seconds due to its weight and its top speed is just 115mph. Also only has 103bhp. Cheapest quote available is £2200 and i cant pay over £2.5k for insurance. My budget for the car is about £4k-£5k max. Should i go for it or have you got any other similar suggestions. I would've gone for the 2.0l if insurance didn't jump to £6k :( And i don't really like hatchbacks, more into coupes. Also cant be too old as interior must be nice.
P.S Please don't say how can your parents.... you'll probably wreck it anyway.. as i appreciate it a lot and am not your typical 17 year old traffic light wannabe trying to overtake everyone. All help appreciated, especially if you own one of these in the 1.6l version :D
I lived in my country for a few years where i was driving our spare car for almost 2 years so i had already had alot of experience before i got my license here,so im not a noob lol. Unfortunately insurance companies wont accept that ofcourse. Quite liked the tigra and puma until i saw their interior. Haven't seen any other coupes with as good interior and exterior as the hyundai and in the same price range. My main question is, is it worth buying a coupe with 103bhp and will it be noticeably slow as just an everyday car being driven in town? Was the 1.6 a disaster or is it not so bad? Thanks for all the answers so far and i look forward to reading some more.

    • ANSWER:
Forget the car you like and get the one you can afford to insure. You are a 17 year old no matter what you do and a noob when it comes to driving on the road as you have ZERO experience and that is why your paying the extra.

No matter how good a driver you may think you are the truth is you are not and more liable to cause more damage with a higher powered car.

    Sociology help... Insurance questions?
I am in sociology class at school and we are doing a "marriage" project. The point of the project is to discourage people from getting married right after high school. In the project, we need to create a budget and this includes adding the costs of insurance.

  31. QUESTION:
Does this sound like a good purchase?
I am interested in purchasing another car, but I am on a very limited budget as I am a student and only have a 1 day a week job. My current car has just failed its MOT and wants a lot done to it to pass muster.

I've seen a 2004 (04) REG Ford Focus 1.8 TDCI Edge at a local garage just a couple of miles from where I live.

It has Air Con, PAS, ABS, CD Radio, 12mth MOT, 1 owner, Full Service History and seems to be in good order condition wise. The only slight concern is its mileage. Its done over 110,000 miles which seems to be on the high side. The car is selling for £2200 but if I try to negotiate to £2000, should I go for it?

Alternitivly I could buy my mums car, a Corsa 2002 DTI SXI 1.7. She also wants £2300 for it but has done 65000 miles but the insurance quote I've had from the same company is £700 more than the Focus.

Any other suggestions for cars to buy. My only constraints are:

    * Prefer Turbo diesel engine, becuase of the mileage i do but a small petrol engine (under 1.8) might be ok.

    * Reliability

    * Must be newer than my current car (1998 R reg)

    * Don't want to spend more than £2500

    * Reasonably Low insurance group

    Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
£2000 for an 04 plate seems like a good price. The mileage is a little high, but modern cars can manage high miles like that without too much problems as long as it is well looked after.
So yeah, if it was me I would buy the focus.

  32. QUESTION:
Not at Fault Accident w/ Lienholder...How can check be spent?
I have three questions with regards to a recent accident that I was involved in. I was rear ended and the other person is at fault. The accident damaged my trunk, bumper, tail lamp, and an OEM spoiler that I had purchased shortly after buying my car. Before I go further I should also note that my car is not fully paid off and I have a lien holder.

My first question is in regards to the spoiler. Because I have purchased this out of pocket and is not included in the loan amount, should my insurance company bill a separate check to me for the cost of replacement rather than it likely ending up in the hands of the lien holder?

My second question is in regards to how much say I have in how the car is repaired. From what I have read and my claims assistant has informed me, the check will go to myself and the lien holder. After this, the lien holder will sign off on the check and I can have my repairs made at the body shop of my choosing. Is it possible for me to opt to have other parts installed on the car other than those specified in the estimate? For example, I would like to replace the broken tail lamps on my vehicle with OEM ones of another model year for my vehicle. Maybe even install an after market trunk rather than an OEM one. Assuming this all meets the allocated "budget" my insurance company's claims adjuster came up with, is this feasible and more importantly, legal.

My third question relates to the second one, slightly. The claims adjuster from my insurance company quoted a large figure and if it costs less to perform said repairs can I apply the excess monies to performing other repairs, such as repainting a scuffed front bumper that is entirely unrelated to the accident?

The repairs technically will be made on the vehicle and the car isn't losing any more value so I see no harm but wanted to get some outside opinions from those who are more in the know.

  33. QUESTION:
How do I deal with parents that can't accept that their daughter is an adult?
I'm 22 years old. I moved back in with my parents after I graduated college to save money. I recently got a pretty good job in my field (as a Pharmaceutical technician making over 35,000 a year). Ever since, things have been going downhill.

I work 12 hour days 6-7 days a week with an hour commute both ways. Because of this, I pretty much go home at night, have dinner, get ready for work the next day, and sleep. My parents blew up at me for not being a part of the family. They also blew up at me for not being a part of the family when I told them I couldn't get out of work for my brother's 21st birthday party, which he already told me he understood and didn't mind.

They also have been extremely rude to my serious boyfriend, to the point where he does not feel comfortable coming to my house and instead offers to let me stay with him when I can't handle my parents.

    Recent quotes from them:
"Your 0 car insurance is due next week. I expect to be paid in full."
"This is what four years of a college education has gotten me? Waste of money."
"You're not a part of the family."
    And soo much more.

What can I do? Talking to them reasonably seems futile. I've begun looking for apartments, but it's difficult with a budget and no roommate yet. So what can I do?
    Some more details:
I am completely and totally finanically self-sufficient. I pay my health insurance, my car payment, my food, pay my parents for bills, pay my own gas money and expenses, everything.

I told my dad that while I couldn't pay him in one lump sum, I'd be more than happy to break it up into monthly payments, starting this week. I found a not on the table this morning saying "CAR INSURANCE DUE!" with 450 circled.
My boyfriend also has a very good job, but not enough to consider moving into an apartment comfortably just yet. Also, I'm one of those people that needs to be at least engaged before I consider moving in with him. Due to the situation, though, that might change.

    • ANSWER:
Being an adult means maturing not just having digits in your age.. If you still have to live with your parents then there is a problem especially if you make that kind of money. Your parents have held your hand for 22 years. Its time to grow up and get your own place.

  34. QUESTION:
What's a good alternative to a Ford KA (UK)?
I'm 23, have been driving for 5 years in parents cars etc. Have moved away from home, have been without a car for a fairish while but am at the point where I really need one. However, whereas I can afford say, up to £1000-1200 on an actual car, the insurance rapes me (one place quoted me at £292.20 a month!). So my question is this:

What is a good first car (not new driver) to get, that is generally economic, and a reasonably low insurance (considering I'm under 25) bracket, other than a Ford KA?
Essentially, if I can avoid it, I don't want to drive a student mobile :P Otherwise I'm fairly open minded

Like I said, in terms of the actual vehicle, my budget is preferably up to £1000, at a push £1200

    Cheers!

    • ANSWER:
WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO GET THAT INSURANCE QUOTE!?!? Im 18, male, and own a £5500 ford focus with a 1.8L petrol engine (so a fair bit faster than your Ka) - i have 1 years ncb which i gained as a named driver on my mums car (as it sounds like you have been doing) yet im paying £1200 a year. I suggest you shop around for your insurance quotes, what you have been quoted so far is extortionate, i always use moneysupermarket and for me, this time admiral was the cheapest.
What i mean is- the ford Ka is a good car, all you need to do is reduce your insurance costs.

  35. QUESTION:
    2006 Hyundai Sonata or 2001 Audi A4?
My car was recently totaled so I have to get a new one. It was a 2003 Buick Lesabre limited that was loaded, it even had heads up display. I sadly couldn't find another within my price range that came even close to my car in luxury features. I have a budget of around 00. I found two vehicles one was a 2001 Audi A4 1.8T for 95 that was loaded and only had a cracked taillight cover (no big whoop, I see it as a bargaining chip). The cons of it were: 109,000 miles, no tint (a necessary when you have Leather in AZ), premium gas, synthetic oil and expensive replacement parts (not really that big an issue just may cause price of a warranty to go up). The sonata (priced ,998 with 91,356 miles) I looked at also had it's ups and downs, positives: steering wheel volume controls, a digital Gauge that tells you how far you can go on a tank, cheap and few repairs, new body style and powerful but efficient v6. Cons: cloth seats, drivers seat adjustment may have been broken (didn't really try much to adjust it, raises my insurance, the alignment was off (It didn't pull it just went strait when the wheel was at a non significant angle, just another bargaining chip). I got insurance quotes saying the audi brings my insurance down by a year and the sonata being newer raises it a year (I don't pay for it mom does but I'd feel bad) and when buying it I'd have to get financing even after talking them down (not really a bad because I'm 18 wouldn't be a bad idea to start building credit, I have a good job and my mom's credit score is over 800 so cosigners wouldn't be a problem). I don't really like the thought of paying for premium gas or expensive repairs when it comes to the audi, but the sonata lacked my luxurious features that my buick had. I need a car that will last me a REALLY long time and not be a money pit. Which vehicle do you think I should go with? And why?
I plan on getting an extended warranty on whichever one I get.

    • ANSWER:
Neither one of these cars is a good choice.

The Audi is horrible in the reliability factor. You will be stranded frequently, have very expensive repairs, and have to wait on parts for extended periods of time.

I would not buy a Hyundai that old. They are much better vehicles now but during that time they were still pretty crappy. Also, the price you are being quoted seems more than just a little high.

Your taste in vehicles and budget allow you to consider far more vehicles than you have listed. I would recommend that you slow down a little, take your time, do a little more beating of the bushes and come up with a superior vehicle at a better price.

Remember, diamonds don't lay on the ground. You gotta dig for 'em.

  36. QUESTION:
    Uninsured and Unemployed, Same-sex couple?
I quit my job 2 years ago to become a homemaker for my same-sex partner. My house and car are paid for (and in my name) and we support ourselves on his income alone. I guess some people would consider that I am living on independent means, but if we were married, I would just be a housewife. This arrangement works great for us, but unfortunately his employer does not provide a family insurance option for same-sex couples. The rates for private insurance are ultimately too expensive for our current budget. I estimate that I have about 00 per year in medical expenses and prescriptions, currently paying cash out of pocket. Private insurance quotes that I have gotten seem to be nearly double this amount, with ridiculous deductibles. Should I just continue paying out of pocket and hope nothing catastrophic happens? Since I am unemployed, if I had a major medical event, would the hospital be able to write it off anyway? Could they take my house? Are there options I'm not aware of?

    • ANSWER:
Tick tock, tick tock, you are living on hope that nothing catastrophic happens.

Poster Stephen is correct and gave great suggestions.

Do a google search on bankruptcy and medical expenses and will get all kind so hits. The major reason for bankruptcy is medical debts that people cannot pay.

      http://articles.cnn.com/2009-06-05/health/bankruptcy.medical.bills_1_medical-bills-bankruptcies-health-insurance?_s=PM:HEALTH

Even though the quotes you are given with high deductibles, there is another reason for buying since health insurance companies also have "contracts" with doctors and hospitals that reduce the cost of your medical bills.

There are a lot of possibilities that could happen such as hernia surgery, rotator cuff surgery, break your leg/arm, have a car accident. All of these examples could cost between ,000 to ,000 alone. Now say in 5 years you are diagnosed with cancer or have any kind of heart problems, then you could be talking hundred of thousand of dollars to pay for treatment. Also the time to buy it is when you are healthy, or could find that no insurance company will cover you period.

I am sure you have homeowners and car insurance and why do you have it, to prevent you from being sued if in an accident or pay to replace your home if in a fire or other catastrophic event. I never understand when people complain about buying health insurance, but think nothing about buying homeowners and car insurance, since if you don't own a car or if you do not own a house, would not be required by law to buy. But with health insurance, everyone at some time in their life will get sick or could have a major illness, so you are buying insurance to protect yourself for this possible major event.

You have a paid off home, do you want to mortgage this house to pay off medical debt and then most likely after that file for bankruptcy if you get unlucky? The only times hospitals may "write off" debt would be if you have no assets period. Also another consideration is that if you have no health insurance and should have cancer or some life threatening disease, no doctor has to treat you unless you can pay period.

      http://www.webmd.com/healthy-aging/news/20090917/no-health-insurance-higher-death-risk

Read those articles and then decide if you choose to stay uninsured or not.

The fourth page will explain the payment for your new car including the insurance that you will purchase for the car and the monthly breakdown for both payments.
The fifth page will be economy information on your car such as mileage in city and open roads.  Also included on this page will be a safety rating for your trade-in vehicle and the new car that you are purchasing.  You must provide two examples of cars that have the safest rating and two that have the poorest ratings.  Give a brief explanation on why two cars you chose have a poor rating.  Also on this page, you are to explain the "Lemon Law" and provide information on this law that protects consumers.

    • ANSWER:
Oh this is an easy one. Take the most expensive car your family owns for trade in. Look up the kelly blue book price online. This can be a jumping off point. Then go to somewhere like vehix.cm and look for the kind of car you like in a reasonable price range (like 9 a month) then go to like progressive and get a free rate quote. The hardest part is making the numbers fit, but I guess the point of the paper is to simulate real life.

  38. QUESTION:
Fun Cars To Drive For A 19 Year Old To Drive?
    Budget: 14k ballpark
looking for a used "car" NO SUV's, NO trucks, no Wagons, etc.
I am 19, male, no kids, I hope lol. So 2 or 4 door, does not matter
Live in Minnesota, Must be either AWD, or FWD NO RWD!
I am a college student so gas milleage is ideal, or somewhat atleast, Lots of commuting

Unfortunately I live in a small town, ways away from Minneopolis, St. Paul so I am very limited to vehicles. There is not much around here so I need your guys' advice on a vehicle best suited for my application.

Here is a list of vehicles I DO NOT WANT:

    Pontiac G5 or G6, I can not afford a G8.
Pontiac GTO, I have been suggested this car, but its RWD!
    Monte Carlo
    Ford 500
    Ford Focus
    Mustang
    Eclipse
    Celica
    Talon
    Taurus
    Cadilac
    Acura RSX Base
    aurora

    .....list goes on

NOTE: Heres the thing guys, insurance is rediculous! My 04' Grand Am GT was 1400 every 6 months for full coverage. I got a quote on what it'd be for an 02' Subaru WRX that I really wanted and insurance for me would be 2400!! Thats psychotic high! So I am a little concerned with anything that has a super or turbo charger, So I cant believe I am saying this but I have to stear clear of:

    EVO's
    WRX's
3000GT VR4 lol wouldnt buy this anyways, cant drive in winter
along with the 3000gt, cant buy a dodge stealth rt
    monte carlo ss
    pontiac grand prix gtp

...I am sure theres more vehicles equiped with super or turbo or twin turbos, lol like the subaru legacy GT, I forgot about this one ha shiaatt this sucks guys.

I was suggested to Mitsubishi Lancer GTS. I know the 08' models and below only have the 2.0 but the 09' has the 2.4 which is descent i guess. I am not sure how spendy these are to maintain. I cant find any Ralliart's around here.

I was also suggested an Acura RSX Type S but I am afraid this will sit too low....

    thanks guys!

"I think they have n/a legacies (I believe they use(d) the H6 n/a engine) but they're basically a heavier impreza with a nicer interior. All subarus are good except the tribeca so I'd look there for where you live."

I'll expand on this a bit, as the Legacy and the rest of the Subaru range are great choices. Basically any Scooby that has the AWD option ticked.

This includes the Legacy (which has both non-turbo and turbo 2.5L flat-4s and a naturally-aspirated flat-6), Forester (same engines), base model Imprezas (2.5L naturally-aspirated flat-4) and Outback (basically a slightly lifted wagon version of the Legacy, also with the same engines).

  39. QUESTION:
To stay at home with baby or work and use daycare?
Should I stay home after the baby is born or work another year or so to pay off debt then stay home?
Together we earn around k per year. We have alot of debt (mortgage 50, credit cards, his car, utilities, etc) plus we don't spend our money very wisely and can't seem to stick to a budget. I'd like to stay home with the baby after it's born, but his employer doesn't offer health insurance, which would mean paying for a "private" health insurance plan for all of us. We got a quote for 00 per month from Blue Cross for that. What are your thoughts stay home immediately or work to pay off debt and then quit? Please, if your going to be rude, just don't answer. If you don't have anything constructive to say, don't say anything at all.

    • ANSWER:
I think you should go back to work. You said that you and your husband are not great at sticking to a budget. With all the expenses you have to pay, it might be the best idea for you to have two incomes. I know staying at home is ideal for any new mom, but it might not be the best idea for you. And the quote you got from BC/BS is crazily expensive to pay without having two incomes. You could consider staying at home for the first 5 months of your baby's life, then returning to work. I'm not sure if this would work for you, but around this time is when you can start introducing solid food so you wouldn't have to pump as much milk for the baby.

  40. QUESTION:
    Small business UK - Help?
I've recently started my own company. I'm finding it tough to find work. I'm an electrician 23 years old. I have started from scratch with £1200 which I saved up. I don't have a big van that can advertise because I can't afford to insure it. I'm getting quotes of £4000 per annum just for insurance. Its just unrelistic for me. So I've got a small car with logos stickers on but it isn't great for advertisement. I have no money for marketing as I have spent my saved budget. I had business cards made and stickers for my car....Also I have had to spend lots on testing equipment and tools. I have my own free website which I have designed myself. I'm ranking in top 7 on google map for my local area but no well for my district.

My girlfriend is saying I have no business because I have yet to do a job...Its really hurting me that she isn't supporting me and thinks its easy to just go out and find work.

I've had 3 jobs to look at over 3 weeks 1 wqas too big for me so I didn't take it on. The other I didn't get becxause he said I was too expensive! and the last one I am waiting for a response.

Its so hard. But I have started from the very bottom with no help with funds I was unemployed for over a year and have had little start up capital.

What can I do? Or have I come to the end of the road!

  41. QUESTION:
This is too all "Supporters" of the "right" to Universal healthcare?
How would these alleged new rights be fulfilled? Take the simplest case: you are born with a moral right to hair care, let us say, provided by a loving government free of charge to all who want or need it. What would happen under such a moral theory?

Haircuts are free, like the air we breathe, so some people show up every day for an expensive new styling, the government pays out more and more, barbers revel in their huge new incomes, and the profession starts to grow ravenously, bald men start to come in droves for free hair implantation's, a school of fancy, specialized eyebrow plucker's develops—it's all free, the government pays. The dishonest barbers are having a field day, of course—but so are the honest ones; they are working and spending like mad, trying to give every customer his heart's desire, which is a millionaire's worth of special hair care and services—the government starts to scream, the budget is out of control. Suddenly directives erupt: we must limit the number of barbers, we must limit the time spent on haircuts, we must limit the permissible type of hair styles; bureaucrats begin to split hairs about how many hairs a barber should be allowed to split. A new computerized office of records filled with inspectors and red tape shoots up; some barbers, it seems, are still getting too rich, they must be getting more than their fair share of the national hair, so barbers have to start applying for Certificates of Need in order to buy razors, while peer review boards are established to assess every stylist's work, both the dishonest and the overly honest alike, to make sure that no one is too bad or too good or too busy or too unbusy. Etc. In the end, there are lines of wretched customers waiting for their chance to be routinely scalped by bored, hog-tied hair cutters, some of whom remember dreamily the old days when somehow everything was so much better.

Do you think the situation would be improved by having hair-care cooperatives organized by the government?—having them engage in managed competition, managed by the government, in order to buy haircut insurance from companies controlled by the government?

If this is what would happen under government-managed hair care, what else can possibly happen—it is already starting to happen—under the idea of health care as a right? Health care in the modern world is a complex, scientific, technological service. How can anybody be born with a right to such a thing?

Under the American system you have a right to health care if you can pay for it, i.e., if you can earn it by your own action and effort. But nobody has the right to the services of any professional individual or group simply because he wants them and desperately needs them. The very fact that he needs these services so desperately is the proof that he had better respect the freedom, the integrity, and the rights of the people who provide them.

You have a right to work, not to rob others of the fruits of their work, not to turn others into sacrificial, right less animals laboring to fulfill your needs.

    Tell me what you think.

I have asked this question before and one of the main arguments went along these lines *Note this is quoted from the user Trollio Lioliolol*

"Why should there be millionaires while there are hungry children?

The constitution recognizes the inalienable rights of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. It assumes that it is a self-evident truth that all people are created as equals.

Health care is not a luxury car. It is not a dream vacation to Las Vegas. Heath care is a matter of the right to life and liberty. Why should someone give up their life because of a lack of money? Why should someone give up their liberty to pay debts for health care? Health care is not a commodity that gets used up. There should be plenty for everyone.

The United States is still, BY FAR the richest country in the world. Why can't we afford to care for our sick and needy? Aren't we the beacon of justice and truth in this world? What example do we set for the third world when we cast off our old, sick, and weak as callously as a dictatorship would?

    PEOPLE first, Profit second."

Observe, in this context, the intellectual precision of the Founding Fathers: they spoke of the right to the pursuit of happiness—not of the right to happiness. It means that a man has the right to take the actions he deems necessary to achieve his happiness; it does not mean that others must make him happy.

The right to life means that a man has the right to support his life by his own work (on any economic level, as high as his ability will carry him); it does not mean that others must provide him with the necessities of life.

The right to property means that a man has the right to take the economic actions necessary to earn property, to use it and to dispose of it; it does not mean that others must provide him with property.
The reason I have asked the question a third time is because I found the other answers lacking.

    • ANSWER:
It is very simple. Everyone in the US has a right to a basic standard of care, not premium care like facelifts, but an agreed upon basic standard, and that is provided by taxing everyone.

It's a very simple concept. But if you still can't quite grasp it, then just consider the current medicare system and if it applied to all americans, not just seniors. Again, quite simple.

This is no different than the government providing a basic standard of education for every child, or free access to the court system to resolve their private disputes. It's there for those who need it, and everyone pays.

Seriously, this is the third time today you have asked this same question. Do you keep forgetting? Also this is not your question, you have plagurized part of an article by a anti-reform think tank called AFCM which is paid by the drug and insurance industry to try to stop healthcare reform. Do you have original thoughts or do you just parrot insurance industry special interests?

A guy named Leonard Peikoff is the real author of most of your question.

  42. QUESTION:
Cheap car & insurance for young male driver?
My brother is 23. He has passed his licence 2 years ago and his pass plus 1 1/2 years ago. He's still struggling to find a car & insurance that he can afford. He's not fussy about the type of car so long as it's not a girls car (ie chiqichenco). The insurance can be third party etc. He has a budget of £400 for the car, what should he buy? The insurance quotes so far for various 1.0l-1.3l cars have all been over £1000 which is out of his price range.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
