As most insurance industry professionals will tell you, with budget car insurance you often get what you pay for. With the mandated need for auto insurance and low wages of some drivers, it can be difficult to obtain and maintain car insurance coverage. Several companies currently offer budget auto insurance to h 00004000 elp them meet the legal requirement of insuring their vehicle.
In most states that mandate all drivers carry car insurance, there is minimum amount for liability for personal injury and property damage. Many of the budget auto insurance companies offer the bare minimum in coverage at a rock-bottom price, but if the person wants to increase their coverage amounts, the prices is usually similar to the insurance offered by the big-name companies. Additionally, a person who is buying a car that has lien held by the lender, they will also need comprehensive insurance coverage so the lender knows their investment is protected against loss by damage.
Similar factors affect the cost of insurance regardless of the company through which it is written, but most budget car insurance companies can offer the minimum amount of insurance required for the minimum premium payment. Most will also have a low down payment, enabling drivers to start their coverage quickly and then make monthly payments to keep the coverage in force.
Weight Service And Price When Choosing Insurer
Most traditional insurance companies offer a grace period for making payments, some as long as 10 days, during which time the insurance remains in force. Some of the budget auto insurance companies may offer a grace period, but typically, if the driver misses a payment the insurance is cancelled with 24 hours of the due date. For those whose paydays do not match the premium due date, this can be a problem. In most cases, when cancellation occurs the state is notified as well as the lien holder, which can subject the vehicle to repossession or impounding.
How fast the insurance company responds to a claim should also be considered when thinking about obtaining budget car insurance. If your coverage includes the use of a rental vehicles, waiting two or three days to have an adjuster go over the claim can leave the person in a lurch concerning transportation. It is also important to look at how they handle potential liability issues in case of personal injury.
Many budget auto insurance companies will simply pay the limit on your policy without fighting over the charges and if additional money is rewarded, the driver is solely responsible. Some insurance companies will join in the driver's fight against potentially fraudulent claims made following an accident.

QUESTION:
If I rent a car from Budget do I need to have my own personal insurance policy?
I don't have my own car insurance but I'm listed on my parents policy. I'm 26 so I can rent a car but don't have insurance in my own name. Do they then require me to purchase insurance through them and if they do how much does it cost?
I would but they're Mon-Fri and I'm renting it on Monday morning so I'd like to know before I go.-
ANSWER:
I strongly suggest you use a credit card for your purchase. My hubby was just in a car wreck with his rental car.
We have no comp - just liabillity.
But because it was on the credit card - it will be fully covered - knock on wood. The car company will require you to have car insurance - but not full coverage.
You under your parents policy is ok.
If you are NOT using a credit card - make 100% sure you get the extra coverage.
Cost may be about / day.Your debit card will not do - that is not a real credit card even though it has the visa or mc logo on it.
Call your credit card company and MAKE SURE that they offer car rental coverage.

QUESTION:
What are the best or most essential things to ask for if I have a limited budget for car insurance ?
Im buying a 2004 Subaru Legacy L Wagon for $ 9,950 Cdn dollars from a dealer. Its been all checked out. Im 55 and retired, so I wont be driving it everyday, but I may make an out of province trip once a year, so in Quebec you need to have 2 million in Liability to do that, so I will choose that. It's the other aspects I am not sure about that I need your intelligent advice on.Im not sure if I shouold go with $ 250 for Collision or $ 500. Im a careful driver, I think, and did not have a collision in over 10 years. Im thinking of going with $ 250 but open to suggestions. Im not sure yet what is the price diffence in taking on over the other.
For Vandalism theft and broken windows I could go with $ 100 or $ 200. Im no sure which to choose. I never leave anything valuable in the car anymore since in various places I have had a laptop, projector, and musicla instrument stolen.
Is it very important to ask for a rented car to be included if the van was in an accidnet ? Im not working in any regular way, so I dont think it would be a big inconvenience to not have a car for a few days, though I guess you only know that when youre in that distuation
Is there such a thing as cutting corners with car insurance without getting "cut" ?
I live an hour from Montreal at the end of a country road in a quadraplex. It seems to be a fairly safe area, but I guess one never knows. Ill be the only driver on the car. I lost 5 points due to not putting my seat belt on soon enough, and due to a speeding infraction. I guess its best to be up front and tell them everything, because all the insurance companies check that out dont they ?
I am with CAA, so I guess that might get me some discount.
Are there questions I should be asking the Car Insurance companies that I am not aware of ? Am I overlooking anything ? Thanks for your advice !

QUESTION:
How much do you pay for car insurance?
How much do you pay monthly for car insurance? I need to buy a car soon. How much should I budget monthly for car insurance?-
ANSWER:
I recommend to all of my customers that are in the market for a new car to call and get quotes. Every vehicle can change the total premium. The VIN# is what it gives the insurance companies the details about the vehicle. There are some options when it comes to paying for the policy. The best would be to pay in full for the term (usually companies will give you a better discount for that) Progressive does. Then the next option is to make monthly payments. Look for a company that have extra benefits. Like moving the due date, electronic payments, web site, etc. (You may not think you need those but there are so many people that their policy's haven't been canceled because their insurance company offered this option)This is the vehicle information you need for a quote:
1. Year
2. Make
3. Model
4. Vehicle Identification Number (VIN#)

QUESTION:
how can i get my car insurance company to lower my car insurance?
my car insurance went from 212 to 259 and i can't afford it but i need full coverage i am a full time nursing student and i just got 10 more monthsto go but i'm on a budget and that car insurance rate doesn't fit my budget-
ANSWER:
1. Shop around to other companies
2. Increase your deductible
3. Find employment or go to school closer to home (a lot of the premium amount is based on how many miles you drive each way to work/class)
4. See if you get a discount to pay in full instead of paying monthly. My isnurance is discounted 10% because I pay it in full at once instead of monthly installments.
5. Drop some coverages that aren't required by state law. If your car is older and the cost to repair damage from a wreck is probably worth more than the car you can drop collision coverage.

QUESTION:
How much do you think car insurance would be, ballpark range?
I'm getting my first car in a few weeks, and we're going to ass it to my parents' insurance. They have a car and a van, and I wonder what the difference would be to add my volkswagon new beetle-to-be to their plan.My goal is to budget 0 to the car each month for payments and insurance. Do i have the right idea? (payment 0-200 hopefully) That'll leave me 0 give or take spending and saving.
Thanks much.
Also, how much is registration in florida?
Sorry, I figured that there had to be some sort of cardboard cuttout answer availible.I have looked at quotes, but geico asks for the social security number and I'm thinking "umm... no?" Besides, as I said, I'm adding onto my parents' and I don't even know what company they use. I s'pose I will deal, I'm sure it can't be more than 0 in the difference... I hope. I'm getting the car with an 00budget, set by self using calculators to figure monthly payments. My dad has his car that he financed and it was like 2.5 percent so the 7.39% I used in all the calculators will mean an even lower payment.
Anyways, thanks.
-
ANSWER:
Your folks will have to get a quote from their insurance company. There are far too many variables to give you any kind of a meaningful estimate. Much of it will depend upon the car but your location is a major factor as well.

QUESTION:
Car Accident - Any tips on Insurance would help?
My husband was waiting in a line of traffic while another car turned off the road and was rear ended by a pick-up going about 50mph, he was hit from the rear and then my husband hit the car in front and so on. Here's the problem... We are in our 60s and have a very tight budget. That car - a 2003 Honda SUV was suppose to last us another 10 years. It only had 40,000 miles on it and was in perfect condition. Not a scratch (I always park away from the crowd). So, the insurance co. has said they would give us ,000 for the tottaled car, but the new SUVs cost over ,000. Never having an accident before, we thought that our insurance would pay the value of the car and the car at faults insurance company would pay the difference for a new car. Found out that is not the way it works. So, we have been paying the insurance company for car insurance for about 40 years without any claims and now when we need them we find that they will not replace the car. Is this right?-
ANSWER:
Yes.
Insurance only has to pay for the cost to repair the car, or the actual cash value (whichever is lower). If the car was a 2003 and was totalled (meaning the ACV is lower than the repairs), then that is all they have to pay.
You should see how much it would cost to fix, it may be only slightly higher than the amount they paid you (unless the car is really totalled beyond fixing).
Otherwise, unfortunately, this is the way that it is. They are paying you for what is a close estimate to what it would cost to replace a 2003 Honda SUV.
You could try to pursue his insurance company for the extra money (some people will tell you to hire a lawyer and do this), but it won't work. The laws are straightforward on the totalling of a vehicle and the right of the insurance company to do this.
Sorry, I can't give you a secret way around it, but what they are doing is the way that the laws are.

QUESTION:
What's your best car insurance quote? I'm with Budget at the mo, (ending in Sept) .....?
paid £314 fully comp with business use (got 7 years no claims bonus and 3 points on my liscense for speeding which shouldn't be counted now cos was back in 2003) Went on moneysupermarket.com and Budget gave me a quote for £177, still all the same details so why the £137 price difference? you can bet my renewel quote will be rubbish, it only dropped by £40 last year but couldn't be bothered with the hassle of paying new company deposit etc. What site would you recommend for cheap insurance? other than Confused.comSorry this ended up being really long winded.
insurance is for a '95 Rover 414.-
ANSWER:
First of all - you will have to declare your speeding for another year (it takes 5 years to be spent)Secondly - Budget are notorious in the industry for adding fees onto renewal letters - you probably have to pay a £20 renewal fee and £25.00 for legal expenses and if you pay by instalments an additional £30 for that! I suspect that:
a) The quote online is for pleasure use with a high excess or assumes other factors. Alternatively the quote may be through a different company with which Budget have an agency and Budget haven't bothered to check the market on your behalf.
b) They won't charge an admin fee for new business
c) They probably throw in the legal expenses free (it only costs them a pound!I would look in the telephone directlry and find a local insurance broker - they will have the same agencies as Budget and you are far more likely to get a better service from them - all of which counts as well as the price.

QUESTION:
Does the monthly payment on a lease vehicle include taxes and car insurance?
I am looking to lease a car but I am on a budget. Ive been looking online at some people that want to "sell" or "transfer" their lease because I would only want it short term. Since lease cars are usually new insurance would be too much for me to pay, so I was wondering if a monthly lease payment includes it, and taxes.-
ANSWER:
I am strongly recommending you do not do this. Likely, it is fraught with pitfalls you've not considered. Your best bet is to pay cash for a car. Always do this.Leasing contains certain provisions which include: excess mileage, wear and tear (subjective) and tire wear, glass breakage and other Elements which can sting you horribly. Monthly rent does not include insurance. You'll be required to carry very high limits of liability nd should it lapse, they can and will repossess.

QUESTION:
When you are reinstating your car insurance do you have to put a hefty down payment again?
I'm making a budget through May and I just realized that my car insurance will expire. So will I have to put down a major down payment again. Or will it just be like another note?-
ANSWER:
If you let it expire before you reinstate, the down payment will be higher than if you just renew your policy. Usually the down payment is 2 months of your premium. Sometimes if you sign up for an EFT (electronic funds transfer) they will either waive the down payment or make it just one months premium. If you have had any accidents or tickets it will raise your premium in general

QUESTION:
What car insurance company would you recommend?
Yeah im 20 years of age and im just going to get my license. Yeah i know...why did i wait so late. But now i want to know what car insurance company would be good. I don't have a huge budget to spend but i do need insurance. HELP ME OUT...-
ANSWER:
If you or an immediate family member served in the military you would qualify for USAA which I understand offers good rates & excellent service. GEICO also offers good rates. The only concern I would have about those two are they are primarily accessible only by 800 numbers - this means you might talk to one really great person and then later not be able to talk to him/her again.Progressive from what I understand offers good rates - and if you have a pet, offers coverage on their medical expenses in the event of an accident at no extra charge. Am not certain what their service is like.
Although Allstate may offer good rates - and displays teaser ads on this site, I would avoid them if possible. I know of a couple people personally who have seen its "good hands" turn into clenched fists when they needed to file claims - and had to retain attorneys to obtain settlements - more cases like this can be found at www.allstatesucks.com.
Nationwide offers good rates and good service - I know from a colleague who has used them for years.
State Farm may offer good rates; they do provide excellent service. As a bonus, they occasionally pay dividends. This is my carrier - they were significantly cheaper than Allstate in my case - and enjoy a better reputation.
These carriers are direct writers - meaning their agents write policies exclusively for them. They get paid straight salary plus commission. However, you may also want to check with an independent agent who can provide quotes from several carriers. The only downside is that independent agents only get paid by commissions, so if the most expensive carrier pays the most commissions, there could be a tendancy to steer you towards that carrier.
Finally, you may want to go to your local library to consult back issues of Consumer Reports. Periodically, they have their subscribers complete a survey detailing their experiences with carriers and by doing so rate them. The magazine also gives advice on purchasing this kind of coverage. Also, check with your state insurance department to see if the carrier you are considering has had any nightmarish complaints registered against them.
Good luck!

QUESTION:
17 year old student Car Insurance for a Ford Fiesta 1.25 or a 1.4 climate 2004-2005?
Insurance for a Ford Fiesta 1.25 or a 1.4 climate 2004-2005I need reasonable car insure I have no “no claims bonus” and I am new driver. I have been quoted around £4000 fully com on a £4000 car. My budget for insurance is around £1400 full or third party. I am an A level Law student I will going to uni next year and I might use the car to commute to there
-
ANSWER:
This is simple:
If your budget is £1400 then get *third party only* and be very careful how you drive your nice £4000 car as if you dent it through your fault you fix it with your wallet.
That's it.
You could even get a £750 car and keep the £3250 in your wallet and when/if you dent it it won't be such a big deal.
In fact you might need to do that as your insurance might even be over 2 grand even if it's only third party.
And yeah you WILL dent it, 99.92% sure, according to general statistics. There's plenty of UK insurers here, it's free to get quotes:

QUESTION:
What would my car insurance be?
I am 16, female, first time getting insurance. I am thinking about getting a convertible, would my insurance be more? If so about how much more? But black or blue, not red or yellow. One of my friends is my age/sex and hers is about 0/mo. Would mine be about the same, give or take a little? I am trying to come up w/ a budget and see what I can afford so any help will be greatly appreciated! Every "free insurance quote" site you must fill in your EXACT car type or be 18+, I have already tried that.
I am in the US, in a small town (about 5000). I will add myself to my parents' insurance but i'm not sure what that is or if their car/house is the same. Thx for the help everyone!-
ANSWER:
Well, sorry to say, but to get some idea of a price for insurance, you really need to know what kind of car. Find a couple you like and might be able to afford and call around. The best place to start is your parent's auto ins. company, especially at your age. Pretty much anything is going to be high at your age. Here's what you need for an auto quote - name, date of birth, soc. sec. #, address, type of car, & coverages you want. You do NOT WANT TO POST SUCH PERSONAL INFORMATION IN AN OPEN FORUM LIKE THIS. I am an agent in Tennessee and unless you live in TN, my rates would be meaningless. As far as the convertible goes, it probably would be higher, most convertibles are. COLOR DOES NOT MATTER.

QUESTION:
What is the ideal first car with cheap insurance and economical car with budget of £1,000 in the UK please?
- Must be a hatchback
- 5 door- preferred
- Cheap Insurance & road tax
- Around 50 mpg
- MUST be PAS
- Economical- Not too big for engine size- 1.4L or below is ideal.
- Not too old for shape- Ideal 1998 or onwardsMy personal favourites are-
- Fiat Punto 1.2L 60S 1998
- Ford Fiesta
- Vauxhall Corsa
- Peugeot 306.Would anyone recommend any of these these relating to the list above please?
-
ANSWER:
Generally (I've been out of the UK for 4 years) anything under 1.3L will be Group 1 for insurance.Diesel vehicles seem to have longer-lasting engines and get more to the gallon.
Older vehicles will need more repairs.
My personal choice would be a Kia. I had one and it was great. Enginewise, anything over 80,000 miles is liable to be very close to the end of its life.
For a secondhand car under £1,000 you need to pay particular attention to the tyres, the oil and rust. When the tyres need replacing it's time to scrap the car, based on my experience.

QUESTION:
Claiming car third party property insurance with Budget Direct.?
I ran into a car today coming out of a parking space as my view was obstructed. Didn't help that she was going faster than you should in a car park. I only stuck my nose out to have a look and she came out of nowhere and I hit her door. Dented it and left black marks. No damage to my car. Just wondering how my insurance works and if I am covered or have to pay anything. Like excess? (have no idea what that is). Thanks. I am a P plater to lol.
Hey thanks Ron. Luckily, my car didn't sustain any damage. I hit at a very low speed. I hit an ld crappy car to. So hopefully I don't have to pay a cent!-
ANSWER:
If you entered a traffic lane then you are at fault. Your liability insurance will cover the damage to the other car without a deductible. Your collision insurance will cover the damage to your car subject to the collision deductble provided you have collision deductble. The term excess can mean a lot of things in the insurance industry. It could mean a claim that is in excess of your policy limits. If you have 00.00 property damage and you ran into a Lambourgini the damage to the door might exceed your limits.r

QUESTION:
What kind of car is the best for a student with a ,000CA budget looking for a gas efficient, and reliable?
I live in Canada and we have expensive car insurance especially for starters. This will be my first car and I want to be on the safe side. Looks is not as important, as safety and reliablility. But as gas is getting more expensive each day, I would prefer to have a smallar car. What car would you suggest? I only drive automatic, can't drive stick.-
ANSWER:
00. You have a lot of choice.Ironically I have found smaller engines withstand the cold better than V8's so look for a solid 4 cylinder. Honda Civics and Toyoto Corolla's are good but are pricey compared to the competition.
For 5000 I would choose from a 98-99 Corolla or Civic, a 2001 Nissan Sentra, or 98-99 Mazda Protege.
A Canadian only model is the Acura EL. It is a loaded Honda Civic with slightly more oomph. You should be able to find a 97 or 98 for around K.
At your price range remember - higher mileage is not a bad thing if they can show you all the maintenance has been done. I'd rather buy a car with 110 000 km that has had it's major 100K service than a car with 90 000 km that will need it in six months.
Good luck.

QUESTION:
What circumstances would prompt an insurance company to cancel a car insurance policy only one month in?
And by email! Company is Budget. No claims have been made and policy paid in full.-
ANSWER:
Basically any reason the insurance company wouldn't have written you in the first place. Depending on what state you are in insurance companies have that right, within a certain time frame after the policy is written. After that it becomes much harder.

QUESTION:
how much roughly would car insurance be for a new male driver aged 25?
My husband is going to take his driving test soon so we can buy a car but i dont know how much to budget in for car insurance as neither of us has driven before and haven't dealt with car insurance before. We would probably just buy a cheap runaround like a ford fiesta 1.4 engine or a car like this (roughly £500 in value) and wondered hw much we should expect to pay for a years insurance on this. i know it will be more expensive than other drivers as its for a new driver and a male but I would really appreciate it if someone could give me a rough figure. thanks
ps. i dont need links to any comparison sites as they only work if you have a car already and all the details! thankyou!
my husband is a chef and we dont live in a busy city or anything-

QUESTION:
Questions Regarding Car Insurance?
I'm a 20 years old female and in Roanoke Virginia. I do not have a drivers license, but I've had my learners permit for several months and am planning to schedule my driving test as soon as possible. Before I take my driving test, however, I need to figure out and work my budget around insurance. I have a few questions.1) Is it possible, and if so is it worth it, to get insurance before I take my driving test?
2) I know it's a dice roll, especially since I haven't purchased the car yet, but any guess on what I'll be paying for insurance on, say, a 2002-2006 Honda Civic (Assuming I can find one that doesn't have any stupid mods on it) or a Toyota Corolla in the same age range? (Yes, I know large age range, but that's what I'm looking at) I will be paying for this car outright. I will not be making any payments on it.
3) My mother has a horrendous driving record (she's totaled 3 cars in the past two years). Will that effect my rate, even though I am not going on her plan, we are not in the same state, and she did not teach me to drive? Will my father's clean driving record (not so much as a parking ticket since 1973) benefit me?
4) Speaking of my parents, will I need to get ahold of their driving records?
5) How long does it take for insurance to become active and legal?
-
ANSWER:
1. Yes, but you MUST have listed on your policy, the person who's licensed to drive, and who will be driving your car until you have your license.2. Insurance is more about YOUR credit score and which coverages YOU pick. If you want "full coverage" on the car, you can bet it's probably going to run you ,000 a year. Liability only, probably closer to 00 a year. Keep in mind, your credit score counts.
3. You will have to list ALL household members, and everyone with regular access to your car. If you don't live with mom or dad, neither of their driving records will affect you.
4. No. The insurance company will pull driving records for you, and everyone in your household. You WILL have to provide names, dates of birth, and license numbers.
5. If you walk into a local agent's office, you can walk out in under 30 minutes with a policy "bound" and in force.

QUESTION:
car insurance refund?
I bought car insurance in march 2010 and had to phone them to change my address. As presumed i had to pay administraton fee of £30 which i did not mind> On top of that they said because i have moved to another area it will be a further £194, when i have looked online with the same company (Budget) the insurance is only £240 for the year in the new area, so in other words they are gonna charge me over an extra 150 when it should only be 50 to be the same as the online quote. They have told me this is for new customers only, how can this be. So i have cancelled with them and now they say i cannot have a refund because i am breaking a contract, when i paid £180 upfront. Surely this cannot be right>
I am going to complain to customer services, but who else will advise me of this as i will not let this drop, they cannot rip me off for £150 surely and get away with it.Any help please.
-
ANSWER:
That depends on your contract with the insurance company but most of the insurance provider return the money when you call them to cancel. I will suggest to read the contract and the link below.http://www.carinsuranceguidebook.com/how-to-cancel-your-car-insurance-and-get-a-refund/

QUESTION:
whos the cheapest u found car insurance thru?
ive checked all state geico progressive state farm aig 21 century liberty mutual and esurance. r there any out there that ive missed?
im a student and on a very strict budget so i need the best deal possible. thanks!-
ANSWER:
I haven't got another name for you to check, but I thought I'd make the suggestion that you be sure to check into possible discounts. If you get good grades, look into a good student discount. If you have taken a defensive driving course, you can get a discount for that. Are you trying to get your own policy or get added to your parents' policy. It is cheaper to get added to your parents policy and then just pay them the difference in the premium increase. They can then also take advantage of the multiple vehicle discount.
Anyway, hope those tips will help you find a cheaper rate. If you can apply any of those to your situation, you can go back and see if you can get a better price than the ones you've already gotten from the same companies.
You can also check with someone like netquote, who will go through and check several companies for you all at once.
Best of luck.

QUESTION:
i need affordable insurance on my car any suggestions?
well i've been driving around for 9 months now w/out insurance. my car's a 2001 dodge neon standard model and i paid cash for it (no car note). im afraid that if im pulled over by the chp my car will get towed. im on a budget and i really need an affordable monthly premium. im 28 yrs old i got my driving license at 26 yrs old then got 2 tickets like 2 months later. one ticket was a failure to yield on a right turn w/ a red light and as a result i caused an accident but there was no bodily harm or property damage to the other driver only to my car it was totaled and i wasn't harmed. i recently was pulled over and given a speeding ticket too. what is the difference in full vs. liability insurance? i do know that liability is cheaper. which should i consider? also does anyone know of any insurance co. that don't require a huge down payment to start?and would insure my car w/out a huge monthly premium?-
ANSWER:
I was with Geico and switched to Progressive and my monthly payments were WAY cheaper. Plus, you can do eveything on-line and there is instant approval and you can just print off your temp insurance cards

QUESTION:
I need car insurance to take my driver's test in NC, but I have no car. What type of insurance should I get?
Also I'm on a tight budget.-
ANSWER:
You need to borrow a car to take the test if you don't have one of your own. The insurance that is required is insurance on the vehicle you are using for the test - because it is illegal to drive a vehicle without insurance (on the vehicle since the insurance follows vehicles, not drivers). So, you just have to be sure the vehicle is insured and have the insurance ID card in the car with you. They will probably ask you for your permit, the registration & the insurance ID card when they get in the car with you to take the test.

QUESTION:
Rental car insurance?
I just rented a car from Budget and it being my first rental, I wasn't exactly sure of all the terms and conditions... unbeknownst to me I could have used my own full coverage insurance with me. I flew out of state and rented a car for the wedding and just assumed I would need to buy their insurance policy, no one ever told me different. I did take my policy with me, but was never asked for that information. Then I get the bill back and they charged me 32.50 a day! Has anyone ever had this happen and how lenient are they if you've already returned the rental? Anything I can do? I'm back at work and won't be able to call in until this afternoon, just wanted some feedback. Thanks in advance.-
ANSWER:
The insurance is optional at the time that you pick up the car, but once you have returned the car, there is no way to get it removed. If you could cancel the coverage after the fact, anyone who did not damage a rental would try to get a refund. You bought, paid for and were covered by the insurance. You did not need it, but it is up to you to know.Rental clerks are trained to sell the coverage, it increases the profit on the rentals. They will not ask about your personal insurance, they want you to buy the coverage from them.
Whenever you are planning on renting a car, check with your own auto insurance agent to see what, if any, coverages you have, and what you need to purchase with the rental.
Consider this an expensive lesson.
