      Well I have a 99 Mazda Protege. I'm 17 and I only pay about 100 a month. I think the older the car the cheaper the insurance. The cost might also depend on the insurance company. I use USAA.       There are no young driver specialists.

      If the car is really yours and you are really the main driver then you and Mum are committing insurance fraud. This is called "Fronting" - see the bbc news link below for independent details of the world of hurt you are opening yourself up to. if you try to claim there is a good chance you will be detected. if stopped by the Police they do have ways to find out and know full well what to watch for.

      My guess is that you are fronting as you called it your insurance. The problem you have is that the car is too large and engine for a teen to get cover on at a reasonable price. Trying to run before you can walk. You need to be in a 1.0 to 1.2 litre motor with no mods

      Unfortunately, cheap and young new driver is mutually exclusive. And they have no choice but to paint you with the same brush as your peers, because rates are set by risk, and risk is factored by statistics. New driver, male, young all equal risk.

      Do what you can on anothers policy to keep expenses down and get some experience. Don't get tickets or get into any at fault accidents, and try again in a year.

      When you do try, as you found out, avoid the comparison sites on the web. Instead go talk to a local and independent agent.

IF he isn't the main driver I would advise going onto a price comparison website such as confused.com, the cheapest insurance company varys from person to person. After you have found the cheapest quote go to the insurers directly as comparison sites are just middle men.
      If he is the main driver and if you can afford it. I would advise you to buy him a small, slow car for around £500 and put him on his own insurance.

      Sorry, as two people have suggested there's no such thing, HOWEVER it totally depends on all factors surrounding you, a few tips to look out for are as follows...

      Your Postcode is one of the main factors when trying to get insurance, If your own postcode is in a high crime area w/e you can find these lists everywhere on the net, if your in a high crime area you can try get it insured to be at another address.

      Check the usage of the policy your going for, one mistake everyone uses is that they tick social domestic and pleasure, this means you can't drive to work... lol, you have to have a policy that allows you to select "Comuting to a single place of work" or for w/e purpose you need it for.

      Insurance group for your car, if you already have a car then I hope for your own sake it's between the groups 1-4.

      Engine size, regardless of the insurance group a lot of companies also go by engine size thats because generally the engine can be a 1.7 TD or a 1.2petrol, and by default the 1.2 may or will be cheaper to insure.

      The best advice I can give you is......DO SOME RESEARCH :D otherwise you'll never find out, Yahoo Answers is not the place for this question imo, you need to start reseaching, MoneySupermarket.com, Confused.com, Comparethemarket.com and so on, use these but also find the indepentant firms as well, DIRECT LINE is actually extremely cheap esp for fully comp, I made a big mistake and hope you don't. :) Good luck.

      Unfortunately at your age insurance prices are going to be very expensive, what you can do is the pass plass course and that usually reduces your insurance by up to 30%.

      Also when you look for insurance try calling the companies up directly since they usually give a lower price then compared to comparison sites online.

      I don't know what kind of insurance coverage you need or kind of car you have but I can pretty much guarantee that you're insurance will be no more than 0 a month through the company I've listed below (full coverage - cheaper for liability). Check them out I bet they can help and you should not drive without insurance. They don't penalize you for being young like most companies do. They look at your driving record for the previous 1 year and even there they are fairly forgiving.

      The only reason he's getting quotes as cheap as £1000 is because he's over 21. New drivers are usually £2k+, he'll not get much better than that I'm afraid.

    So ive read online about how much people are fined when they are found driving without insurance and its about 200 on average. I know it can go upto 5000 but thats still cheaper than shelling out for insurance and your chances of getting caught arnt really high the way i would do it.

    Get a car, insure my dad on the car so it doesnt flag up on the police cameras when you drive past, drive to and from work only, and say the car is parked at work (nice postcode to get insurance cheaper) over night. which i can say it is my brother takes it on his night shift there.

    And if i do get caught i will say i took it without owners concent. TWOC the police call it.

    I just cant get it into my head at why the government dont do anything about insurance it kind of pushes people into breaking the law.

    And i would use public transport IF it didnt take me 4hours to get to and from work a day! ¬¬

      Since Quinn, who appeared to like doing teen car insurance, have been prevented from selling any new policies, young drivers insurance has gone through the roof.
      It is now common on here to see teens being asked for £4000 a year for a very small cheap car - it is down to the potential damage to others cars and property and the fact that 1 in 4 will have an accident in year 1.

      Anything under £2000 a year for a 1.2 litre car will be a result.

      There are no magic companies, you have to shop around like everyone else.
      I believe it is a matter of time before teens are priced right out of motoring or all the companies just stop doing it as they don't have to after all.
      When I was 17 some 31 years ago even though working full time I could not afford to run a car and still have some cash left to have fun with so a small motorbike was the norm for me and my mates - I reckon that is coming back too.

      There is nowhere that does magic cheap insurance for younger drivers - some don't do it at all!
      Any recommendations you get on here will either be spam of irrelavent as just because it has been cheap for someone at a certain time does not make it cheap for you now.
      Shopping around to find the best 2 or 3 and then GETTING ON THE PHONE to haggle with them is he only way to do it.

      Expect £2500 plus. There are no magic cheaper for teens companies out there. Company vehicle, on company cover at 18 - that is costing someone a hell f a lot of dosh.
      There are many factors which are used by the insurer to calculate the risk and so the premium they charge for car insurance, you have given a few but not enough - these are mainly;
      1 Age and sex of the policyholder (who must be the Main driver, and registered keeper) and that of any additional drivers.
      2. The cars age, mileage, value, insurance group, security and the companies own claims history for that vehicle
      3. The occupation of the policyholder and any named drivers
      4. The claims history of any drivers
      5. The licence details of drivers (endorsements, length of time held)
      6. Where the car is normally kept overnight (is it the policyholders address? on road is more expensive than on a drive which is more expensive than in a locked garage.
      7. What use will the car be insured for, social and domestic is the minimum but if commuting and use for the policyholders business or their employers business is added the price increases. If used to commute where is the car to be parked when there - on road or in a car park.
      8. Does the car have any modifications from the standard factory fresh condition like alloy wheels or performance enhancements - some insurers will refuse to cover modified cars, some will increase the price and some will cover them but only for return to standard.
      You need to tell the full truth about everything asked and inform them of any changes to any of the details disclosed as the policy goes on - failing to do that can render it null and void.

      Some younger drivers consider putting the car and insurance in a parents name with the parent as a fraudulent main driver and them as an occasional named driver to cut the premiums. This common scam is called "Fronting" and is an illegal act which can get parent and son/daughter into a lot of long lasting expensive troubles.

      Most insurers offer a monthly payment scheme and most need about 15% up front to start the cover. the scheme is usually in the form of a loan and so interest is charged - this can be as much as 25% APR. This is usually at rate which is higher than most credit cards even charge so look at other ways to borrow the money to spread the cost if possible as it will be cheaper.

      With a few minor differences these are the questions you will be asked before being given a quote. Not having supplied these details on Yahoo Answers, and who would, it is impossible to give a guess of a price for you to within even £1000 for a younger newly qualified driver.

      Jesus thats a lot. My boyfriend is the same age with 3 points also and i've been able to find quote for 630 pound. Unless the points included a ban or revoking of licence or serious injury to someone I cannot see why there would be such a difference. My boyfriend has 3 years no claims, possibly this is your boyfriends first year or he has no claims. Bell.co.uk offer good insurance to young drivers with little to no no claims bonus.       Firstly, your Dad's NCD can only be used on one vehicle at a time.

      Secondly, and most importantly, if you're going to be using the vehicle the most, the you need to name yourself as the main user of the vehicle. If you don't, then you're basically paying a few thousand pounds for insurance that does not exist. Failure disclose a material fact (such as who will be using the vehicle the most) is a serious offence under the Road Traffic Acts, and could land both you AND your Dad in a lot of trouble, including prosecution for fraud, and increased premiums and severe difficulty in getting insurance in the future. Naming a parent as the "main" driver of a policy when you use the car the most is called "fronting", and is highly illegal. It also makes insurance much more expensive for all young drivers (myself included). Insurers DO find out, would you really want your Dad to get in trouble like this?

      Besides, if you start to build up your NCD *now*, then you'll be in much better stead for when you're older, and who knows - you could be drivng a Subaru Impreza Turbo at 25 with a few years NCD!

      Smarts are actually pretty expensive to insure for anyone, not least first time drivers. You'd be best off with something like a 5-10yr old Skoda Fabia or Vauxhall Corsa, max 1.2l engine. These seem to be the cheapest to insure for young drivers. Kia Picantos are cheap too. I know you might be driving something your Grandad drives, but this is how everyone has to start out, really. I actually drive the same model of vehicle my Grandad had when he stopped driving! It's a car, it gets you from A to B, simple as. Looking cool at the moment shouldn't matter.

    I've been looking around, and none of the insurance websites i have been on are very clear...
    I am a 17 y/o girl, and would like to drive a classic beetle. Is it possible to get insurance on classic beetles as a young driver? If so, where? Is classic car insurance cheaper than normal car insurance?

      You can get classic car insurance at any age, but here is the catch,
      You MUST have a regular car insured on a regular policy to get specific classic car insurance.
      You may not use a classic car to drive to work etc.
      I have had classic cars since i was a kid and currently have 3 insured through "silver wheels"
      and a separate policy with a regular insurance company.
      And yes classic car insurance is cheaper than regular insurance, but the classic car usually has to be appraised every 3 years to keep your coverage.

    Make your you answer relates to UK rules/laws and what ever else USA rules/laws mean nothing to me and won't help.
    First guy to answer was no help what so ever, I didn't ask about up-keep, I've had a car for a year and know what im doing and how to up-keep a car, Also repairs are not an issue. I'll be buying the car from my own money I'VE EARNED so I'll appreciate anything i buy.

      Forget it as you cannot get classic insurance under 25. That would be a loophole far too big that if it was ever open got closed long ago.
      The insurers know that younge drivers could do this to cut costs and even though you may be genuine it just ain't gonna happen.
