The insurance business world is one of the very few places where age can be used to distinguish between citizens based on their age. Insurers assess different charges for different people depending on their age. If you are a 16 year person and you feel that you are going to be getting a healthier premium than your 22 year old buddy because you are better committed than him or her then you are making a wrong analysis.
Insurers tabulate their insurance charges using 'brackets' or categories of consumers grouped together with certain common elements. These classes could differ based on a number of factors like age, marital status, gender, area, consumer credit rating etc. This essay is partial in its extent to the age element.
Young Operators Groups:
Below Age 18: This is the age category where insurance price is the at record high. People in this age group pay as much as 175% to 225% more than mature operators. Since no one below age 18 will get a CDL, any operator below the age of 18 driving a motor vehicle that has business coverage may be risking declination of coverage in the event of an insurance claim.
Age 18 Years to 20 Years: Individuals are still classified as young drivers, and they still have to pay greater prices than mature drivers, though their premiums are much less than the previous bracket. At age 18 individuals can possess their CDL. Most insurers that may consider them will not even look at there insurance submission for policies that require interstate setup coverage. Companies that allow them to be on a business policy will restrict their insurance coverage to intrastate activities.
Age 21 to 24: This is the last bracket in the classification of youthful drivers. Insurance premiums for private insurance begin to stabilize with most insurance companies, when compared with prices served to mature operators. Age 21 years is where many commercial insurance companies start to accept commercial auto insurance applicants with interstate bearing. All companies will put in special price extra charge for commercial operators under age 21 years, and some insurance companies may require a specific period of expertise like 12 to 24 months of experience to look into them for insurance coverage.
Mature Operators:
Age 25 years to 69 years: A large number of insurance companies impose very similar prices for this age category, although a small number of insurance carriers begin to charge small build up in their premiums beyond age 60 years. Age does not seem to be important for this class.
Old Drivers:
Over Age 70 Years: There are important studies made by insurance companies and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration- NHTSA www.nhtsa.gov that suggest that individuals over age 70 years begin to lead to more traffic accidents. For that reason, insurance companies take certain measures to implement the right rate with the appropriate medical reports from them. Most business polices do not cover operators above age 71 or 72 years. On the individual insurance level, almost all companies stop selling newer polices for customers beyond 76 years of age, and other companies make the insurance price very excluding.
What else can be done to decrease the influence of age on premiums? There is not much that old and young drivers can do. Young operators and older operators are leading to more highway accidents, relatively speaking, and they must simply pay the price for that. Many insurance carriers accept good student discounts for younger student operators, and other companies may permit occasional operator status on their policy. For older drivers, making sure that you have the correct medical record that shows the physical and mental functionality of the old person to drive the car is wanted to give to the insurance representative. The absence of that note to be provided in timely manner may end in ceasing the policy which might be complex to replace with another company afterwards.

QUESTION:
are employers required to inform independent contractors about commercial auto insurance?
i was just in a major auto collision and now my insurance is trying to deny coverage because they think i was on a delivery for my employer at the time. supposedly all delivery drivers need a special commercial insurance. i didn't know this. is my employer required to tell me if im an independent contractor?-
ANSWER:
Correct. There is an absolute exclusion in every personal auto policy, if you're using your vehicle, to make deliveries for work. This is most commonly seen with pizza delivery related accidents. If you're an independent contractor, then you're responsible to have all your own insurance. You'd get paid without taxes being withheld from your check.
Even if you're an employee, you're still responsible for YOUR insurance on YOUR car, your employer isn't responsible.
It's not up to your employer to make sure you read your policy to know what's covered. It's up to YOU.
The REASON pizza joints hire other people to deliver pizzas, is because delivery insurance is REALLY expensive, and they'd like to foist that cost off on someone else. Sorry.

QUESTION:
Can you answer this question about my commercial auto insurance app?
On the commercial auto application it asks if this is a service, commercial or retail vehicle. I know it's not retail. But what's the difference between a commercial vehicle and a service vehicle?-
ANSWER:
Service is a vehicle that you use to get to and from a job site. The vehicle itself, isn't used in the business. Typicially it would be like a salesperson's car.Commercial is a vehicle that's actually used to perform the job - like when you're a courier bringing stuff somewhere, or if you have a truck that delivers stuff, or hauls materials (like gravel, or concrete) to a job site, or you're hauling people (limo, taxi, bus, ambulance).
Retail, is when you're delivering to a residence - a non-business. Like flowers, or furniture delivery.

QUESTION:
Can you help me find a commercial auto insurance company?
I'm interested in starting a car rental company. The business model is fairly high risk, and I'm having trouble finding a company that will provide auto insurance. The company will be located in Orlando, FL. If you know of any resources I can look into please let me know. I have contacted GMAC and all the major companies like Statefarm, Nationwide, etc.
Thanks so much! Good information and advice. I really appreciate it.-
ANSWER:
Look, your attorney, who you're hiring, has connections to find someone who can do this.See, the vast, vast majority of people who think about doing this, can't afford it.
If you came to ME asking for a quote, I'd charge you a ,000 brokers fee for my time, because odds are very, very slim that you're going to go through with this - and, you're right, it's an extremely high risk business.
Let's start with the cars. Physical damage on these cars, is going to be prohibitively expensive - three times the cost of the car. Car rental companies pay cash for the cars, they don't have car loans.
Liability, will depend on the contract your lawyer has drawn up - and your loss control processes. But commercial auto policies for rental car companies, will have a DEDUCTIBLE on the liability section, usually a MINIMUM Of ,000. Even so, with that big fat deductible, you should budget ,000 per car, for EXCESS liability - that means, it doesn't cover AT ALL if the person driving is uninsured.
You won't find a Standard company like STate Farm, Nationwide, Allstate, Farmers, to write this. Your coverage will either be through a nonadmitted carrier, or your state assigned risk pool - which I"m not sure Florida even HAS.
You need an INDEPENDENT agent, specializing in transportation risks. You can find one, actually, you'll get a list, by typing your zip code in to www.iiaba.net, and start calling down the line. Most of them will think the same thing I think when I get these calls - it's just busy work and you'll never end up buying coverage. So don't be surprised if THEY want to charge a brokers fee to get the quote, also - refundable if you end up actually buying the insurance.
It takes MILLIONS of dollars invested to start a car rental company. And the people who rent cars, trash cars - ALL THE TIME. Deliberately - vandalizing them on the inside. That's why there aren't very many of them.

QUESTION:
Is commercial auto insurance much more expensive than personal?
I have a little Mr. Fix it business on the side and I carry a few tools in my SUV. I am thinking of getting a commercial auto policy. Will it be more expensive than personal and how much more?-
ANSWER:
Good question.The answer varies.
But the bigger question is, will someone WRITE a commercial policy on you. Here's the scoop - for a while, about 15 years ago, some people were trying to avoid paying accident surcharges by calling themselves "contractors" and putting their vehicles on a business auto policy. Well, losses skyrocketed, and insurance companies changed how they do it.
So if you have LESS than 5 vehicles, and they are registered in a PERSONAL name, most insurance companies won't put them on a business auto policy, unless they are a "business" class - like dump truck, taxi/limo, delivery vehicle. Of course, one of these business type classes is MUCH MUCH MUCH more expensive to insure on a business policy than a SERVICE type vehicle (to and from a job site). The only time it really gets cheaper, is if you have a large fleet of vehicles - at LEAST 5, but the serious price breaks come when you have more than 20.
So, to sum up - unless the SUV is registered in the name of a corporation, you are not going to get anyone except Progressive to put this on a commercial policy - and THEN it will be more expensive than a personal policy.

QUESTION:
when is it necessary for a small business to have commercial auto insurance?
this is a small family business. no employees.
Husband and Wife team.-
ANSWER:
Because you're a business and not an individual - which means that your potential liability is much greater. It's the same as your homeowners insurance - if you run your business out of your home and don't have commercial insurance and your house burns down, no part of your commercial busines will be reimbursed.

QUESTION:
Can I write off standard miles and commercial auto insurance as a 1099. My employer made me get commercial ins?-
ANSWER:
You are not allowed to deduct both standard mileage and insurance for the same vehicle. If you deduct any expense, except parking and tolls, for a vehicle, then you are not allowed to deduct the standard mileage rate for that vehicle. If you deduct the standard mileage rate for a vehicle, then you are not allowed to deduct any other expense, except parking and tolls, for that vehicle. If you deduct actual expenses for the vehicle (gas, oil, registration, repairs, etc.), then you can include the insurance, but cannot deduct the standard mileage rate for the same vehicle.

QUESTION:
Why is that Progressive Auto Insurance commercial with that girl "Flo" so appealing?
Everytime I see it I feel calm! And I know it must be successful because it is always on!-
ANSWER:
Probably because the person that acts as the character "Flo" is so attractive. I myself find her to be an attractive woman. I also think its because of her perkiness. There were a couple of commercials I didn't care for too much but overall, I think its just how the actress portrays her character. She seems down to Earth which attracts most people. So I think its just the actress playing that role so well.. She's the new spokeswoman so she has to do a decent job at it.

QUESTION:
Commercial insurance or auto insurance? In IL.?
I have a car with livery plates but do a little livery orders. The commercial insurance is too high for me. Can I use an auto insurance with endorsement for livery? Can I keep my livery plates if I have just auto insurance?-
ANSWER:
Confusion of terms here . . .there's commercial auto coverage, and private auto coverage. Private auto has an absolute exclusion in it for hauling goods or passengers for a fee. Flat out. You can't endorse "livery" onto a private passenger auto. And you can't renew livery plates with a PP auto policy, either. There isn't any coverage.Sorry, I know the rates are high for what you're doing. That's because there are a TON of claims.

QUESTION:
Anybody remember this Progressive Auto Insurance commercial?
This commercial really pissed me off.
Just thinking about it writing about it right now is starting to piss me off, but I want some opinions so thaat's why I'm asking. It showed this woman at this computer with her ex-boyfriend's voodoo doll body displayed on the monitor and she did al these terrible things to him while he was trying to have fun with another woman at a night club. She burned his foot, and even shrunk his head, totally ruining his chances and sabotatging his success with other women.
You don't see the guys ruining a girl's chances with another guy, so I hated, hated, HATED that commercial and I thought it was completely wrong. and it made me madder than hell.
Did that commercial upset you to? I hated it. I don't wanna see a guy's chances with another woman be ruined by someone else.

It was very cruel....I really don't know the point of that commercial...and I don't think most people understood it. That's probably why they've changed their commercials. I think those people making those commercials may think at the time it's a great idea, but when it comes out, it's actually a horrible idea...that's the chance they take I guess.

QUESTION:
Why is there always food in State Farm commercials (auto insurance)?
Either they are at a restaurant or they are eating something (or both). Is it an advertising technique?-
ANSWER:
Very interesting observation - I never noticed! But alas, I'm sure that in commercials, every single thing was put there for a specific reason, and to come to the conclusion of why it should be there, many a marketing major spent hours, days, possibly even longer trying to justify and predict why it would be good for promoting business and duping potential customers into feeling good about the product or company. They use all kinds of tricks to subliminally mind-fluck us as consumers... food makes people feel comfortable and jovial even; it's often used as a social gathering piece or just as a comforting thing in general... perhaps they predicted that the mere presence of food would evoke such feelings in viewers and thus give them positive feelings towards State Farm?
Oh, and America's getting fatter by the day, so that might have something to do with it, too. In case, like, you didn't know.

QUESTION:
Does Safe Auto insurance cost more since they don't check credit?
I just saw a commercial for Safe Auto & they said they don't check credit. Do most other insurance companies check it? And does that make Safe Auto's rates higher? Basically, I need liability insurance and as cheap as possible. I don't have a bad driving record but my credit isn't good.-
ANSWER:
Safe Auto is high risk insurance, that is the reason they state they don't check credit, since most people who buy it, cant buy from a big name auto insurance company due to their credit, driving record of tickets, or multiple accidents in the past.Your best bet is to get multiple quotes from at least 3 companies. I suggest you call a agent and discuss and they will give you their suggestions. Also, with any high risk auto, most only have minimum limits only, so if you have any assets, you need more than the minimum to protect you.
As a general rule, any accidents/tickets etc will stay on your record for 3 years and if as you state you driving record is good, I suggest you try some of the other companies even with bad credit, since the rates they will charge will most likely be cheaper than Safe Auto.
good luck

QUESTION:
Anyone else tired of the auto insurance commercials?
I know they have to advertise, but I am SO sick of EVERY insurance commercial out there constantly showing commercials claiming that everyone who ISNT insured with them is overpaying. I have military insurance, so I got full coverage (with GAP) on a 2007 Nissan Frontier for a month.....beat that.
What is even worse is the ones that come on looking like its some sort of important public announcement or the safe auto one that CLAIMS that the cops have a way of looking at your car and KNOWING that you dont have insurance. What ever.
This is exactly why there should be a governed method of pricing insurance. So sick of this insurance war.
you cant compare insurance to fast food. A McDonanld's burger and a Jack int the Box burger taste completely different. With insurance, your getting the EXACT same thing. And there are other ways of advertising other than finding new ways of saying your cheaper than everyone else. If I wasnt getting such a good deal on my insurance, I would go to state farm (even though they are expensive) JUST because their commercials arent all about them being cheaper.
And while I'm on the subject, why is insurance even manadtory, or even legal for that fact?
Think about it. Insurance is nothing more than gambling. You pay every month in case something happens to you car. To me, that is no different than buying lottery tickets every week in hopes of hitting the lottery. There are tons of people out there who are very careful drivers and pay insurance their whole life, never getting into a wreck or utilizing their insurance, wich is a way of the insurance companies hittiing the jackpot.
This is something that should be up to the individual, not made mandatory. Or at least made mandatory to anyone whose recklessness has caused a wreck or is charged with wreckless driving. If someone has the money to have their car fixed in the event of an accident, then why are they STILL forced to have insurance?-
ANSWER:
so should we stop seeing fast food comercials as well? should the gov't regulate the cost of a hamburger? what about car manufacturer's? should the gov't regulate the cost of a car? what about {anything}, should the gov't regulate the cost {anything} as well?they have that in some countries, its called communism. and if you'd like that in the US, vote for Obama.
bottom line, they have to advertise. theyre not going to advertise that "well we will probably end up costing you a lil more than the other guy". no that would be dumb. the only one i know of that says you will save over the others is Progressive. some others say ways you can save but they dont say youll save so much over another company, its usually insure your house and car and save on average $XXX.xxor no accidents every 6months get a rebate.
turn the channel. hit mute. get a tivo.

QUESTION:
Is it just me? or do Auto Insurance Commercials SUCK!!?
Geico... Get rid of the damned Gecko already,, it was cute for a couple of months, but the joke has become lame.Progressive... Flo, we love you, but I think its time that we see other people. Its not you, its us. The Honeymoon is over and there's just no joy in our relationship.
State Farm... Hey Mario Lopez wanna-be, you're boring, and those other ads that don't have you in them--where if you sing the jingle and stuff appears out of no where... who's stupid-ass retarded idea was that, seriously.
Nationwide... You were the last one to join the Retarded Ad Movement...why did you have to sink to their level. Back out before its too late.
Its really too bad the lobbyists in the insurance companies got their way by making Auto-Insurance Mandatory, making it illegal to drive a vehicle without paying their back-alley shady executives' trips to Tahiti. Otherwise, we could all boycott them for annoying the hell out of us will all their dumbass commercials.
Oh, and even though its not an Insurance Company... the current "Stella Artois" commercial is damned annoying too, isn't it?

When it comes to Flo, speak for your self. That girl is just ADORABLE, no matter what you may think of her company or product.

What is 21st Century Auto Insurance's coverage for letting a friend borrow your car?
I have 21st century auto insurance and i saw the commercial about how they extend your coverage to anyone you let drive your car. I was wondering how that worked, what are the requirements?Because if that is the case then, one wouldn't need to buy any insurance for their children for example.
-

You have to pay for it. It's additional coverage. You have to have coverage for every driver of the vehicle. That would include children. When a child reaches the legal age and obtains their license, the parent adds them to their policy and pays for it.

If liabilty insurance is required by law for all drivers, then why aren't uninsured drivers made to pay for the damage they cause in an accident even if it is out of his own pocket? Why does the insured driver's insurance have to cover for the uninsured driver? Why is it almost treated as though the uninsured driver is no longer liable because the other guy has insurance? Also, did you ever see those auto insurance commercials where some person is claiming they are driving without insurance because they can't afford it or because they have a bad driving record. In other words, we are supposed to accept drivers who think they don't have to obey the laws because they can't afford it or think that wreckless drivers are cute and funny and have to feel sorry for them.
