There are a lot of things in life 00004000 that make you scratch your head and say, "Huh?" but not many of them go hand in hand with the same level of frustration as taking a look at your new car insurance rates-and seeing them go up. Nobody wants to pay too much for their insurance. You've got enough bills each month, you don't need any more! It's not enough to know that your car insurance rates are climbing, however. You've got to know why.
After all, if you know what's going on you have a chance to turn it around in your favor!
There are plenty of reasons car insurance rates might go up. Some of them you have control over-for example, every time you have an accident you can expect your rates to go up by up to 40%. Speeding tickets send car insurance rates flying, and hopping behind the wheel of a Maserati Quattroporte is going to cost you a lot more than riding around town driving a rusty truck with three on a tree. If you really want to keep your car insurance rates down you'll keep your driving record clean and choose carefully when you go shopping for a new car.

QUESTION:
How much will my auto insurance go up after a at fault accident?
I has a at fault auto accident in California. My insurance policy is not up until July. They will not tell me how much it will go up until 30 before my policy expires. I am 19 (got my license at 18) and have no other tickets or violations. I currently pay month. Should I be expecting a drastic increase?-
ANSWER:
No one here has the faintest idea of how much, if any, your insurance company may increase your premium. You must wait til renewal time. BTW, it is not a good idea to ask ones' insurance company how much they will raise ones rates. That only calls their attention to your policy.

QUESTION:
Will my auto insurance rates go up if I get a red light camera ticket?
This is my first red light camera ticket but my second ticket this year. The first one was a speeding ticket. Will my auto insurance rates go up for a red light ticket?-
ANSWER:
Your insurance rate only goes up depending in which State you live. In States where red light camera tickets are civil penalities, then No. In States where red light camera tickets are treated like normal red light tickets; that is, a criminal misdemeanor, then Yes.In all cases, all red light camera tickets are illegal no matter where you live. Your department of transportation does not paint the safe braking distance line on the road as required by the equation they use to set the yellow light duration. It's a huge engineering defect we all overlooked so long as the police enforced the law. The police realize that deciding to stop or go when seeing a light turn yellow is a guess . . . and grant you leniency when you guess wrong by a fraction of a second.
Red light cameras are precision computers and do not allow the guess. The DOT must paint the line so that traversing an intersection upon seeing a yellow is not a guess.
Get tough and sue your city.

QUESTION:
When Changing auto insurance company, do they ask me to go through inspection on my vehicle?
I'm thinking about changing my auto insurance company soon. I'll probably go to online to get a quote and the insurance.
When I looked through all the questions they ask for the quote, I noticed that they ask if there are any damages on the vehicles.
(There are few scratches here and there on my vehicle.)
If I answer that there are, they would ask me how did it get them and tell me that I should report those accidents.
But I don't want to report and I don't even want to fix them.
Therefore, I know it's an immoral act but I want to answer that there aren't any damages. So here comes my question,
After the applications and all, do the insurance company ask the driver to go through the auto inspection?-
ANSWER:
If you need or want collision coverage, they will ask for photos of the vehicle from both sides straight on, front and rear straight on and three-quarter views from every corner. Therefore, you're better off telling them about any damage on the car. That way, they protect themselves from spurious claims for pre-existing damage.

QUESTION:
How long will it take for your auto insurance cost to go down?
How long will it take for your auto insurance cost to go down?-
ANSWER:
Depends why it went up.If it was just high because you were a new driver, then usually it will go down at age 25 or when you have 7 years of experience.
If it went up because of a violation or accident, then it will go down after you demonstrate a consistent, safe driving record for 3-5 years.

QUESTION:
I just purchased a auto insurance policy a few days ago. Can I cancel and go with another company?
At last minute, I had to get auto insurance with Esurance which I hate. But I really had no other choice. Can I cancel with them and go with another company that will give me a better deal?-
ANSWER:
You might be able to cancel it without any fees if you just signed up for it a few days ago. If you have found a cheaper rate at another company, then I would go ahead and cancel even if you have to pay a fee. There is nothing worse than over paying for your auto insurance. That's exactly why it is so important to do your research and compare quotes from atleast 3-5 different insurance companies before you decide who to sign a policy with.

QUESTION:
Does auto Insurance go ski high after you get an impaired driving charge?
ve a friend who is getting his licence back in April and he was told it may cost 00.00 a year for auto insurance- could it be true?-
ANSWER:
Insurance is baed on the amount of RISK.
Someone with a conviction (and if license was taken away he was convicted) is more likely to have a accident and a serious one so the the risk is higher.People who are higher risk pay more.
Poor credit rating = high risk = pay more intrest on cards and home loans -- becuase thye are more likley to not pay the money back.Previous accident or moving violation, or DUI then more likely to file claim for insurance.
Young and foolish - more likely to have accident so pay more.
High performance sports car ? - pay more.Middle aged, professioanl, with minivan -- pay less.
That's why sex offenders cant be around kids, and thiefs cant work in banks, fire-bugs cant be firemen.
Obese, old, smokers pay more for health/life insurance-- cause they use more. Sky diver -- we dont cover that.

I've never had points on my record before, and my last ticket was in 2001 with no points. How much can I expect my insurance to go up?-

The only person who can acurately answer this question is your insurance company. However, your rates can't be increased until your next renewal, and that's ONLY if your company runs your MVR and sees it. Sometimes companies only run your reports every other year.

QUESTION:
How much did your auto insurance go up after a speeding ticket?
I just got my second speeding ticket today, the catch is that my first one never hit my record, technically it doesn't exist. When you got your first speeding ticket, how much did your insurance go up?I was going 73/55
My dad has a DWI on the insurance which actually made it go down and it was his second one.-
ANSWER:
The insurance don't really go up once a policy is activated But they just sock it to you when its renewal time. usually wove a additional 125.00 to 175.00 increase on the over all 6 month rate This is usually a money innovation tactic for profit margin not the risk factor like they say. Its like this in real time raise it because we can and not because we should.

QUESTION:
How much does a salvaged title make your auto insurance go up?
I am an 18-year-old first time driver that just got his license a week ago. I got a car that's a "salvaged title" and a theft recovery. I got a quote on the car before I found out those things and the quote was 5/month. But I was wondering, how much does the salvaged title make it go up? Can anyone give an approximate answer? And what insurance company is the best for this? Thanks.-
ANSWER:
In my experience, not at all. You probably won't be able to get comprehensive insurance. (I only carried liability, a couple notches above minimum, and uninsured motorist coverage.)As an 18 year old driver, 135 a month isn't bad, most places. It could be far, far worse.
There is no one best insurance company, really. Based on experience of me, my family, and my neighbors, I'd recommend against Geico.
I and my family have used Progressive for years upon years (and my mom had them through SEVEN incidents of people hitting her car while it was parked) and our experiences have been generally very good. Their rates are pretty good. You might find slightly cheaper, but they're nothing to complain about.
You should go to an insurance broker, if you're really REALLY concerned about price. They should have access to all kinds of policies from famous companies and companies you've never heard of.
edit: If you lie to the insurance company, and then get in an accident, you risk having your coverage denied. Do not lie to the insurance company.

QUESTION:
What will happen if i go without auto insurance for a few days?
i just purchased a new car and only took the insurance cuz i wanted to drive the car off the lot. so i now have found a cheaper & better insurance company. i know i can cancel my policy with in thirty days and get a prorated refund and must show proof of new insurance. so what i am asking if i go without insurance for like a week and then buy new insurance will the rates go up because i went without insur. or will they go up because i just didnt pay the other insurance on time? can i stil cancel and get a refund if i come in a few days later than the due date? help!!-
ANSWER:
NEVER go without insurance. On a new car, even if you don't drive it, it could be stolen, or vandalized, and you still have to pay for it. Jeez, people make it difficult for themselves. Either leave it the way it is, or get the new policy in place before you cancel. If the company has provided proof of insurance to a lienholder, they probably won't cancel for you without proof of a new policy anyway.

QUESTION:
Will my auto insurance rates go up if the accident is not my fault?
I live in texas and a year ago, rear ended a vehicle in a low speed accident. They made a claim, but I did not. My insurance rates did not go up.Today, I was hit from behind on the ice. The vehicle, a jeep, drove away as I was trying to gain traction and right my vehicle to avoid another collision. I did not get their license plate.
I have no choice but to file with my insurance company. Will my auto rates go up? And would it have been any different if my vehicle had been hit in a parking lot without my being there?
-
ANSWER:
It is a difference as you were in control of the vehicle. Being on the roadway makes it a not at fault accident. In the parking lot, it is just a hit and run. It would be like whether or not you were parked at your house or driving down the road. Either way, you rates should not go up at all. It was a not at fault accident that you would couldn't control. If your rates do go up, I suggest finding a company that will not raise your rates if you have an accident that is not your fault.

QUESTION:
How much does your rate go up with Auto Insurance when you hit someone? I had 2 incidents this year.?
I filed a small claim in April 2007 for total damages about 00. There was no damage to my car but I hit my babysitters car who was doubleparked in front of my townhouse. Now I just hit someone else and the estimate is about 00 for his bumper. I am wondering if it is worth it to go through my insurance and have another claim against me or if I should just handle it out of packet? My insurance fro the year now is very good only 62. But for some reason this is a bad year for me. I have 2 kids (1 with autism) that is always driving me crazy while I drive . I don't want to hurt myself by going through insurance. Thanks-
ANSWER:
I'd pay the,000. Generally, most insurance companies will indeed surcharge you for accidents and it will most often take about 5 years for the accident / traffic violation history to' wash off' your policy. That being said, do what you gotta do. If money is tight right now, place a claim. Under certain circumstances it lessens the load to pay in smaller monthly payments than it is to pay one larger lump sum.

QUESTION:
Where do I go to get medi-cal to sign off on a 3rd party check from auto insurance company for car accident ?
At the time of the accident medi-cal paid the hospital bills. Now the auto insurance company is issuing a settlement check but it is a 3rd party check issued to my husband, medi-cal and blue cross. They both have to sign off on it before it can be cashed. But no one seems to be able to tell me where I have to take it to get it signed off.-
ANSWER:
That's because you can't get it signed off. You can't cash that check. The POINT of Medi-Cal being listed, is that THEY get the money for their medical bills reimbursed. You *might* be able to get the adjuster to reissue the check, one to you for your share, one to Medi-Cal for their share, and one to Blue Cross for their share. But Medi-Cal will be a deposit only, and since they're broke, I sure wouldn't trust them to pay BC or your husband their shares.

They say the car was in the shop unreasonably too long. It was just after the hurricaine last year and all bodyshops were way behind due to all the cars damaged by force majeure. I tried to bargain with them, but they wouldn't budge. Do I have to take them to court? Is it worth it? What else can I do?-

the insurance company is only liable for the time to reasonbly repair your car,1 week for every thousand
1day for every 4 hours on the repair estimatethe insurance company is not responsible for a shop that cannot handle its work load. you may try going to your shop of choice and asking them to pay some of the bill, all they can say is "no". sometimes they will absorb some of that cost as customer service, but don't be hopeful

QUESTION:
How much auto insurance premium go up after an accident?
I got into a car accident about a month ago. I totaled my car and damaged another. A passenger also got hurt in the other vehicle and filled a claim but it doesn't look like hes suing. The accident was clearly my fault. I currently pay 0 a month for two cars and I'm 24 years old. Anyone have a rough idea as to how much it will go up? Thanks.-
ANSWER:
I have progressive, and like most insurance companies, I renew my coverage every 6 months. I got into an accident that was not my fault around six months ago. My premium did not change a bit, but my last moving violation was almost three years ago, and the last accident I had before this was at least three years ago. If you don't have multiple accidents and moving violations, they could simply forgive this accident. It's a lot more specific than you might think. You really should talk to your insurance company, but any increase (if it happens) usually won't take place until it's time to renew.

QUESTION:
How much will my auto insurance go up after 2 tickets in 6 months?
If I apply with a new insurance company before the tickets are on my record, will I be able to avoid an increase?-
ANSWER:
Yes, but the fees will go up when they find out. One way to defer paying a higher rate will be to prepay for as much insurance as they will let you (this is usually a year). You could always do the same thing with your present insurer. Prepay as much as they will let you. If they ask why, say you like the savings you get from paying for a whole year of insurance up-front.

QUESTION:
What are some good auto insurance companies to go with?
Its going to be the first time I am getting insurance.-
ANSWER:
If you want you car fixed right if it gets wrecked, I'd suggest you go with State Farm. They don't usually try to cut corners on the estimates, they pay for factory parts, when many other companies will try to make you use cheaper aftermarket parts. With that being said, my insurance is with a different company, but it's because I have commercial insurance, and for whatever reason I couldn't get that through my local State Farm Agent.

QUESTION:
Will my auto insurance rates go up if I am not at fault, according to police report, after a hit and run?
And, if so how much? Will they go up if rates have already gone up due to an earlier accident?-
ANSWER:
I doubt it, so long as you didn't require medical help. My wife was in an accident that was partially her fault (she wasn't ticketed, though), and our car insurance rates didn't increase due to the accident itself. However, as per the insurance rep -- they did increase because of the large hospital bill. We ended up switching providers because that's a bunk policy. You could always call your insurance company -- most of them will be able to tell you one way or another whether certain things will increase your insurance rate.

QUESTION:
Will my auto insurance rates go up in a single car accident?
Have had a perfect driving record for 20 years, last week on my way to work, hit black ice, and car overturned in the ditch - car was a total loss. Do you think my rates will rise? No injuries or property damage, just a totalled car from the crash. Have been with the same insurance company with no previous claims the past 10+ years.-

It really depends on the insurance company. In most cases no, but some of them can be pretty strict.

QUESTION:
Will my auto insurance go up for my bf getting a HUGE speeding ticket in my car?
I have him on the policy, bc he has to drive the one vehicle, but will it go up now. He was doing 108 in a 50. I know it's rediculous, but it really sucks bc im only turning 19 and i've kept my record clean for almost three years now!!! We live in PA and it wasn't out-of-state or anything.
This just happened yesterday!-
ANSWER:
What's ridiculous is your boyfriends immature behavior. There is no reason/excuse to drive 105 in a 50.
Now, if you and your boyfriend share the car, or he drives it on a regular basis, he has to be listed on the insurance policy as a driver. Your boyfriend was doing more than double the speed limit - putting the rest of the driving public at risk .......and you don't think your rates should go up?
If your boyfriend drives the car on a regular basis and you do not have him on your policy and he has a wreck (very likely to happen given his irresponsibility behind the wheel) - your insurance company can and will deny coverage. Your policy has language that says that if the vehicle is provided for his regular use and he is not listed on the policy, there is no coverage. This is to prevent people from not listing the bad drivers to keep their rates down.
So, you either keep your boyfriend on the policy and make him pay you the surcharge or you make him get his own car and his own insurance.

QUESTION:
Does a person who is diagnosed with epilepsy automatically go on high risk auto insurance?
My nephew was diagnosed at age 12, but is on medication. His father was diagnosed at age 38, and is now put on high risk insurance, even though he can't drive for at least 6 months. Will my nephew have to be on high risk insurance even if he is seizure free until he is 16? Thanks!!-
ANSWER:
My husband has epilepsy and we have never had a problem with insurance. I don't know how severe your Brother's is, but we lived in Colorado and my hubby had to be seizure free for one year to get his license. He got it when he was 18. He had about 2 seizures a year after that. He never had a problem with insurance, it was his license we were concerned about. But, we have lived in three states and none of the insurances have only been asked for medical info once. We have regular insurance. Now, as far as insurance goes.... as long as it isn't reported to the DMV you should be fine. I know that in CO the emergency room can make reports to the DMV advising your license be suspended until you can prove you are seizure free.... but my hubby was in the ER a couple times and they never reported it because he kept them under control. I think it sorta falls under the 'don't ask-don't tell' policy. I wouldn't say anything to the insurance unless they specifically ask. I think we were asked once, in NY, but the way they phrased the question we told them 'no'. For example, 'do you have any health concerns that could hinder your driving ability' - the answer was no because he only had seizures a couple times a yr and it was usually triggered by something, ie sugar free drinks or playing video games, my hubby doesnt drive for a couple days if he feels that he is 'groggy'. So in essence our answer would be 'no'. Other than that, as long as it isn't reported to the DMV, you are fine. I don't see an insurance company making the leap either to ask if his son has the same condition that he does. They probably wouldn't think to ask. Your brother probably has had a seizure while driving or it is serious enough that the DMV has been notified. As long as your nephew is seizure free, the insurance isn't going to know anything about it unless the DMV knows.Basically, lol, you should be fine... 'don't ask-don't tell'. Good Luck and God Bless your family. I know that we are nervous for our kids to hit puberty as this is inherited and we won't know if they have it for a few years. The best of luck to you! I hope this helps!

QUESTION:
When an auto insurance company makes a payout do they go by Kelly Blue Book private party or retail value?
I was involved in an auto accident which I was not at fault for and was curious, considering it looks like the damage out weighs the actual value of the vehicle, when the insurance company cuts the check do they base it off of "private party value" or "retail value"? Its a 98' Honda Civic sedan EX, and im just wondering how much I should be expecting...-
ANSWER:
They don't go by Kelly Blue Book.If they use a book - it will be the NADA (National Automobile Dealers Assoc.) book.
If they pay based on the book - they will start with the retail value. Then subtract for mileage and condition. So...if your car needs new tires....there will be a deduction for that.
However, many companies use a market survey program (such as CCC or Total Logic). These are not products you have access to. But if the insurance company uses one....they can send you a copy of the report and let you see it.

QUESTION:
Does auto insurance automatically go up with a speeding ticket?
Got the first one in 5 years and wondered if this will affect my rates.-
ANSWER:
Usually it will. Sometimes it takes a couple of months to show up though. The usual increase rates varies by
insurance company and depending how many miles an hour over the limit you were.
5 miles an hour usually will result in a 5 percent increase
with a lot of companies.
10 miles an hour will, usually, result in a 15 -20 percent increase if you are under age 40, about 10 percent if over age 40.
Above 10 miles an hour spells more trouble. Some companies will no longer insure you or require you to take
a defensive driving course b4 they will insure you, again.
Some will raise your rate 40 -50 percent, if they don't kick you out.
More than 30 miles an hour over the limit will get you kicked
out of about 80 percent of insurance companies, even if it is your first offense. Then, when you go to get insurance with another company your rate will skyrocket.

QUESTION:
Auto insurance cancelled today, can I go to new company?
I just got a new car a few months ago and was paying 5 a MONTH for my insurance. Way too expensive.I want to cancel and go to another company (nationwide or all-state) where I was quoted 5 a month. I dont have the money to pay the current insurance 5 for the month, then cancel it (which adds another or so for cancellation fee), and THEN open a new policy with another company for 5. Thats 5 just to switch insurance companies! So, I let my current insurance lapse and it was cancelled as of last night for non-payment. Now, can I open up the new insurance with another company today, then pay off the old insurance in a couple weeks?
-
ANSWER:
yes but be careful of the new companies policy on dislosure of anything they should know . You do not show any intent to defraud the first company so go for it.

ANSWER:
You got caught for doing 80 in a 55...well 25mph over the speed limit is what most states would classify as a serious violation. Dunno how it is in MA, but your 18 years old and you got a speeding ticket for doing 25 over....id expect to see at least a 20-25% increase in your premium.

QUESTION:
How much will my auto insurance go up(rough idea) if I get a job where I would use my car?
Just curious what range it might fall in. My premium with state farm is very low, about a month with full coverage on a 1994 3000GT. Milage would be like 125 a day.-
ANSWER:
It depends what you are doing when you are driving your car because of your job. Insurance companies have rules about what constitutes business usage and you should be very clear about what auto insurance you will need.Check out this website because they discuss this and provide some useful information. As always, it pays to do your own research and get quotes for your particular situation. I hope this helps.
Good luck!

QUESTION:
Will my auto insurance go up for a speeding ticket?
(76 in 65)? If so how do I find out about how much it would go up?-
ANSWER:
your auto insurance will go up. So if possible make sure you take traffic school to avoid a ding on your policy. Because auto policies are so different per case, its hard to say how much your rate goes up. Factors such as age, vehicle type, marital status all make a difference in the overall rate. The only way to figure it out is to wait for your renewal offer to come in the mail. Depending on your insurance company, your ticket may not come up at your next renewal because of the timing. There are several factors to consider. Best thing to do, like i said, is wait for your renewal

QUESTION:
Will your auto insurance go up if you get a 2 point ticket in Georgia?
I haven't had a ticket in over 5 years and I'm over 30yrs old. I was going 40mph in a 25mph zone.
I've Heard that Insurance companys will not even look at your driving history unless you change your policy or if you're already labeled a high risk driver. Also since it was only a 2 point ticket I've heard that it will not raise your rate unless you get another 2 point ticket within a short period of time. Can anyone verify this info?-
ANSWER:
It depends on if the insurance company runs your MVR or not. Some will run it at renewal time and others don't. Your best bet is to wait and see. If your rates go up then it might be a good time to shop around. Here is a directory of local agents: http://www.findlocalinsurance.com
