You can opt out just for minimum liability coverage, no collision or comprehensive, that is if you are willing to forgo the money you invested in the car if you total it and don't care if you are sued in case of serious accident.

  7. QUESTION:
Pa. auto Insurance 100 mile from home college student discount law.?
I live in the state of Pennsylvania. My question is does anyone know if Pa. auto insurance laws don't allow insurance companies to give you a discount on your rates if you have a college student attending school at least 100 miles from home. I recently saw this on the Motley Fool site about how to save money on your auto insurance rates. When I contacted my agent she said Pa. doesn't allow such a discount. Thanks

    • ANSWER:
It's not a law. Insurance companies can, if they want, give an "away at college" discount, IF the student is more than 100 miles from home, WITHOUT A CAR.

I've HAD a PA license for a long time. Either your agent doesn't know what she's talking about, OR, she only represents one company that does NOT give an away at school discount.

Most companies in PA do this. BUT. If you have a car with you, you're not entitled.

    How is Geico Auto Insurance?
So we all like to save as much money on auto insurance as possible. I'm debating switching to Geico cus it'll save me about 0-240 a year (i'm starting to sound like a commercial). Anyway this is a question for people who currently have or had Geico Auto Insurance. I hear internet auto insurance companies tend to be bad when it comes time to file claims etc. I haven't had an accident (knock on wood) but if it happens, I'd like to know i wouldn't have a huge run around dealing with Geico..any good or bad experiences with them?
    ~Gavin

    • ANSWER:
I've had great experience with them all the way around, and I've been with them for over 6 years. Best customer service around, I'd definitely recommend them! (I only had one claim and it was handled timely and very satisfactory)

How much does the "Gecko" tacked on to your auto insurance to pay for their commercials?
I had a thought the other day when a barrage of “the gecko” commercials kept coming on TV. How can “the gecko” save you money when he’s paying for all those commercials? Then a portion of your insurance premiums must be paying for the commercials. So how can they save you any cash when they’re tacking on extra fees to pay for all that advertising? I think they get you in the door with low rate and keep raising it over the years until your paying way more than you should be.

Seeing that cute little guy on tv makes it all worth it.

  12. QUESTION:
Car totaled Auto insurance wont pay full amount with salvage title?
This is crazy my car was hit head on, our airbags saved our lives, now the auto insurance of the other party wont pay full amount on 2006 vibe , because there is a salvage title on my car. My car has that title not from a accident because it was a stolen car that we bought at auction .
The Insurance company put's the salvage title on anything. Now what are we going to do sue them, How do you fight this crazy salvage rule its not our problem its their rule . It was also the other persons fault and it ruin our vacation with body pains it was all messed up.

    • ANSWER:
OK, let's define "full amount". A car that's NEVER been totalled, is worth about twice what a car with a salvage title is worth. Many states, you CAN "clean" that salvage title, in cases of theft, or total rebuilds. The insurance company put a salvage title on it, because it was a total loss. An insurance company has ALREADY paid out the full value of this car. What's more, obviously, that car was eventually FOUND, and was probably found . . .totalled. So it's probably been rebuilt, even if it WAS a theft claim and not a collision claim (if you total a car while you're stealing it, that's theft - not collision).

So, now that you have a car with a salvage title, that you didn't try to 'clean', the actual cash value of it is about HALF what a non-salvage auto is.

There's nothing to fight. Maybe you paid more for the car, than it's actually worth, because YOU didn't know that a salvage title means the car is worth about half. But what you paid for it, doesn't affect it's actual cash value.

If you don't want to take their offer, you can always decline it and put it through your insurance, or you can sue them in court - but you STILL won't get more than the car's worth.

  13. QUESTION:
What does it mean to "be on your parnets auto insurance policy?"?
Is it legal? How much can you save? The title of the car is in my name, should it be in their name?

    • ANSWER:
if the title was in their name and you listed as a partial driver the insurance would be a lot cheaper, and yes its very legal to do this, sometime its the only way younger people can afford to drive a car, insurance is high on younger drivers now days, but if they agree to do this it would be a good idea,it would save you a whole lot of money, good luck.

How do I notify my auto insurance company that I'm cancelling my policy?
I just switched from Progressive to Geico (and saved almost 00 per year!) How and when do I notify Progressive that I'm cancelling my policy with them? (My coverage with Progressive ends March 4th, and my coverage with Geico starts on March 3rd). I've heard that I must notify Progressive in writing; does Geico provide some sort of form or document to give the old company or do I have to actually type out a letter to Progressive?
To "bundysmom": if you don't have an actual answer to the question, please don't respond. The whole point of Yahoo! Answers is for people to be able to ask questions such as mine...if you don't like the question, keep it movin'....please don't waste your time or mine.

    • ANSWER:
Call Progressive, inform them that you are switching insurance carriers, and they will probably ask you to send a copy (possibly by fax) to them. If you don't they will contact the state DMV and say you don't have insurance, which will then cause you to lose registration on your vehicle.

And they are all way more than i though this was going to be. and now if i decide to buy a different type of car I have to call them all back again and again?

  18. QUESTION:
Drivers licence, auto insurance in california.?
I have my drivers permit, and I want my drivers license. I don't have a car so if I get my drivers license are they going to make me pay for auto insurance? Because I don't plan on driving a car, I don't have a car yet so how can they make me pay for auto insurance if I don't have a car? I just want a license so that I can save up for a car and just have a license before I buy a car. So I have until August 2010 to pass my drivers test and this insurance thing is really holding me back because I don't have money to pay for car insurance. So can they really make me pay for car insurance in California when I don't have a car to drive?

    • ANSWER:
If you donot own car then no compulsion of auto insurance.

You can purchase a non-owner car insurance policy to protect against losses if there is an accident when you travel in a car that you do not own. The non-owner policy usually provides you with liability, medical expenses and uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage up to your policy limits. However non-owners policy does not cover collision, comprehensive, towing and rental reimbursement coverage.

  19. QUESTION:
How would I go about switching auto insurance companies?
I just found out that I'm WAY over paying for auto insurance. I went online and did some quotes, and even called a couple places and most would save me over 0 a year. Now, I just made a payment today. Do I still owe on my policy and have to wait for the re-newel in May? I know that I can't cancel anything because I'll have a lapse in coverage, and we don't want that. It seems easy, but all I want to know is if I would still owe THEN can move on or if they would just let me go. Should I also haggle with my current company and see if they'll match what I've found?

    Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
Just make sure the new policy starts at the same time coverage ends on your old policy. That way there is no lapse in coverage. Check if your old insurance company charges a fee to cancel they usually do. Also understand that cheaper is not always better I was with Gieco for awhile and was dropped because my son had a small accident less than 0 damages cheaper isn't better if you have to get new insurance company every time you have to use them.

  20. QUESTION:
What to expect? Court tommorrow for not having auto insurance?
My fiance is going to court tommorrow at 10:30am, and I just wondering what to expect. We live in Lincoln, NE and a couple weeks ago he was pulled over on his way to work. The cop claimed he was going 50mph, but heres where it gets weird..

First, he was going over train tracks when the cop supposedly clocked him going that speed (would YOU go over train tracks at 50mph? yea right..) second, how did the cop get an accurate read when he was driving towards my fiance when he clocked him. He wasn't behind him, or off to the side, they were driving towards eachother. Lastly, the cop didn't show my fiance any proof of his speed being 50. None at all.

However, its true we don't have insurance on his car. He was still on his mothers insurance when it was cancelled (she couldn't pay it anymore) and instead of asking us to pay the bill for once (she's always really nice and takes care of certain bills even tho she doesn't have too) she just let them terminate our insurance. We were in the process of saving up for a new car as well, so we decided we'd just wait a week or 2 and cover our new car with our own insurance.

So, I guess the details don't matter.. but I wanted to explain a bit.

My question is.. does anyone know what kind of penalty's there are for not having car insurance? They won't throw him in jail would they?

    • ANSWER:
You'll have a fine but no jail time. I don't know about NE but here in TX, a no insurance ticket is a BIG no-no. The tickets usually run in excess of 0 for a first offense and up to 00 for a second. Then, our state motor vehicle dept. puts a surcharge of 0 per year for 3 yrs. (0) on your license. That's in addition to the ticket. They also impound your car. Once a cop sees you have no insurance here, you are walking home, calling a cab, calling a friend, ect. They will impound your car and then you have to pay the impound fee within 10 days or they auction your car off.

Yeah, Texas can really suck sometimes.

  21. QUESTION:
Auto insurance question- got a speeding ticket but got off with driving school?
I just recently got new insurance, I didn't know whether or not I should put my speeding ticket on the quote since it was my first one and the cop just told me to just come to court and that they would give me driving school. So I decided to put it on the quote because I don't wanna get pinned for insurance fraud or something, I'm new to this whole insurance thing (just got off my parents) so I played it safe. Now that I have been to court and gotten driving school should I call up the insurance company and let them know what happened? Would it lower my rates if I did that? Or does it even matter? If I can save a few bucks I'll do it, but I don't want to waste my time and theirs.

tl;dr----- got a speeding ticket, put it on my insurance quote- got off with driving school- how should I proceed?

Does it really even matter since I received the ticket before I was on this current insurance?

    • ANSWER:
why did you bail out on parents insurance/that could still be the cheapest/i would have stayed on as long as possible/just list the ticket on the app/they will find out/it never goes away from record/no points is what the school did for you and thats a plus

  22. QUESTION:
How much auto insurance should I carry?
Is it true that depending on your net worth, you should get more or less auto insurance? I'm a college student so I only work part-time and only have a modest amount saved up. The value of my car is about 00. Right now I have 50000/100000 for injury, 50000 property damage, and 50000/100000 for uninsured or under-insured motorists. I have no comprehensive or collision coverage. I can not afford those. But liability wise, am I good or would it be OK to buy less or should I buy more auto insurance? I am not on my mother's insurance policy because with her being in another state, and the car being garaged with me, it's not worth it and I'm not sure if it's possible
By the way, I just saved 15% or more (actually about 40%) by switching my car insurance to geico. I already saved money that way, but I'm wondering if I should trim my coverage also.

    • ANSWER:
Consider this: a well equipped GMC pickup truck costs over ,000. If you crash into the rear of one and HE crashes into the rear of a Lexus do you think K will cover that?
I always suggest a minimum limit of 100,000/500,000/100,000 on liability. Honestly, it really doesn't cost that much more than what you're paying now and in the event of a disaster you won't be making 0 a month payments to the court for the next ten years.

  23. QUESTION:
A question about compulsory auto insurance?
When I insured my car last month, I told the agent that I want basic insurance, and I thought that was what I purchased. I never any information about my policy, all they sent me was the monthly bill.

So today I went to the agent and notified them of this, and they gave me a Coverage Selections Page paper, and I noticed that on part 4 of the compulsory insurance they set my limit to ,000 while the minimum is only 00 here in Massachusetts. Apparently the premium for having the ,000 limit is 3.

Since the car is no longer operational due to an accident last Sunday and I want to keep my insurance for four months until I can replace the car, I was wondering how much I would save if I lowered the limit to the state minimum of ,000?

    • ANSWER:
You need to talk to your insurance agent.

  24. QUESTION:
Where can I get inexpensive auto insurance?
I am 19 with a clean driving record, I live in GA and my insurance on my 83 pickup is really too expensive. (3 a month) its the best I could find, most quotes I get are 0 and up, and that is liability only by the way. I'm curious if there is a company that lets me pay on account of an accident, instead of a monthly payment where in they make a bet on how likely I will be to have an accident, my truck is worth no more than 00 and I have payed almost that much in insurance in the last year. I just need a break, I don't make but 0 a month, between rent and food I am draining my savings, please if you know of a way I could save at least per month it would help allot.

  25. QUESTION:
Is there any wrong doing by my auto insurance company?
Had a wreck on a monday, wasnt my fault and other driver we "think" was uninsured. thankfully i had full coverage. my car was undrivable so it was towed away. the following day i had to call my insurunce company to give the information. after waiting 2 day they finaly called and told me that my policy covered a day on rental and they will make the arrangements that day. after looking over my policy i seen that it covered not so i had to call back for them to make the changes. then on friday, 5 days later they called to get my statement about the wreck and afterwards told me that it wouldnt be till next week till they got someone out there to asess my car, and if there was anything i need out of it i should go get it, i asked him about my plates and he said that since more then likely their going to total the car and the plates would be useless. he again stated that he would know something by next wendsday and would call me no matter what by thursday. as patient as i am i said ok. so next week arrives, its a tuesday and since i have to pay for the gas in the rental car it took me a few days to save up the money to make it to the junkyard since it was out of town. when i get there i was informed that someone had already came and took pictures of it and hauled it away. i was like wtf ? on top of that, one of the whole reasons why i had to the junk yard was to sign a release for my car to be taken away. so i wait till thursday and no call from them like they said. so i gave them till the end of the day and then called and after being put on hold for 5 minutes i was told i would be called back. neeever happened.... so i gave them benifit of the doubt and wait till the end of the day friday, almost 2 whole weeks since my wreck. after being put on hold again for 5 minutes i was told that if i didnt hear from them in 45 minutes then to call back, so 45 minutes later i called back and the guy had left.. so i asked to talk to someone else, i was put on hold and then someone came on and gave me the guys cell #. so i had to call this guy on his cell and was informed that they still havnt had anyone go look at my car and being that next week is thanksgiving they will be busy and not sure when and if they will know somethign next week. oh, and also that my car is about 45 miles away in one of their yards so they didnt get charged storage fees and if i needed the stuff out of my car i would have to go get it. yeah, like i can afford the gas for that. and if needed they may be able to send it back to me for a fee.

so with all that being said, i would like to know if there is any wrong doing here ? i have delt with insurance before but never took this long and never felt like i was being avoided. on top of all this, i still dont know whats going to happen to my car nor if they ever got ahold of the other person to find out if they were insured or not. being that xmas is coming up and i need to know how i need to know if i am going to have to put extra money aside i cant wait this long. but again, i just need to know from insurance professionals if this is normal and if there is any wrong doing. pls dont reply explaing how uninsured motorist work.

    • ANSWER:
Honestly, although the service is awful, and I for one feel for you, in many
states, insurance companies have 30 days, legally, to even acknowledge receipt of a claim!
The laws involved haven't really kept up with technology.
Many companies are much better at this than what you are describing, but some are even worse.
Usually, verbal permission to move the vehicle is enough to be able to do so.
Nothing legally wrong here, but again, I really sympathize that you are getting such appallingly poor service!
When renewal time comes, I would vote with my dollar and do some shopping around!
      Good luck to you.

  26. QUESTION:
Would it be silly to get married by a JP before our wedding date?
I know that on the surface this sounds silly... but my fiance was just saying how much simpler things would be if we just got legally married now. (JP, civil ceremony)

The reason being that we already have a house and a son together. Once we are married, we can save money on health, dental, life and auto insurance. It would save us a bundle.

I also moved to a new state to be with him and my old driver's license expires in July (one month before my name would change). I'd love to save the money on the insurance issues. (The savings is substantial because of the different ways our employers have the plans set up). And I'd hate to have my current name on my license for another 4 years (yes, I know about the additional update card, but it's not the same.)

These aren't reasons to get married in the first place, but we both wish we could have set an earlier date. (Our choices were limited to the dates the church was available).

    Any similar situations out there?
Some good points for and against it...

He wants the Catholic Ceremony. That is important to him. So if we did do a JP thing first, he'd still want the ceremony. It was just something we thought about looking into...

    • ANSWER:
Ok You 2 have been paying seperate health, dental, life, auto etc, for this long then why take the special day and it's meaning and throw it away with a JP ceremony? You are really only talking about 3 or 4 months of the seperate premiums anyway? (your actual ceremony will cost more than that!)

As for your driver's liscense (keep in mind 40 bucks tops at the max)

Bottom line if you really were that concerned about money then you would have gone to the JP a long time ago. Since you are getting married during the middle of the year All of the auto and home owners insurance should be able to be prorated and credited back to your account for the difference.

Be honest with yourself if you have always dreamed of a church wedding then a JP wedding will never be the same. You might have the ceremony like you planned but, in your heart you will know that it is not really the day you got married.

Are you really willing to give up your dream wedding and all that it means to save a few hundred dollars?

  27. QUESTION:
I was pulled over on a NM highway. Will it effect my auto insurance and license points?
I heard that on a highway that a speeding ticket doesn't affect these two things. I was going 100 in a 75, because I had juse gone down a big hill. I had let go of the pedal to save gas and roll down the hill, and then put my foot back on the gas without looking at how high the speedometer was. Any suggestions of how to get this deffered?
And wil it affect my insurance and license if I dont?
I felt like I was going with the flow of traffic and it is the first ticket on my record

    • ANSWER:
Yes, it will affect your insurance and points. That's 25 over. That could bring 8 points and a suspended license. I'd suggest you hire an attorney to represent you on this one, it could go up to reckless driving.

No one will believe the flow of traffic was at 100 mph.

A millionaire who is not taxed an extra 5% (k) can spend his hard earned money on expanding his business if he is a business owner (helping unemployment in his industry), an addition on his house (spurring the construction industry, home insurance industry, utility industry), a new car (spurring the auto industry, auto parts industry, auto insurance industry), or save it to protect his family just in case of an economic melt down or traumatic event (breadwinner's unexpected death). That same money may or may not be spent as wisely by the government (Reinvestment In America Act has spent million in "Reinvestment in America Act" signs). But I'll trust that the millionaire knows more about spending, investing, and saving his money than the government and will be more responsible doing so.

I believe that people who want the rich to be taxed more view the rich as being hoarders, who either keep all of their money, or spend it superfluously, without delving deeper and imagining that the savings is a form of protection and the spending is a form of reinvesting.
I am a millionaire, my business partners are millionaires, other than my Audi none of us have invested anything overseas, why would we when we could open up another store down the street?

The average millionaire has a 3 bedroom 3 bath house with 2 kids, 2 modest cars a well paying upper management job or a medium size business, not a conniving business man with offshore bank accounts and a team of accountants looking for tax loopholes.
And the Clinton expansion was on the backs of the .com bubble, it wouldn't matter what the taxes were like, growth was inevitable.

    • ANSWER:
This is an age old debate. First off taxes must be collected if we want services such wealfare, police, military, a goverment, school ect... The more services people want the more taxes will have to be collected. The problem with collecting to much taxes from the lower class is that the lower class only make up a very small % of the nations wealth. According to an economic study by economist Edward N. Wolff at New York University (2010), the top 1% of americans own 42.7% of americas financial wealth and the bottom 20% own less than 8%. Almost all of americas disposable income belongs to small minority of the wealthy putting them in the best position to pay more in taxes. Also increasing taxes does not hurt the wealthies ability to invest as much as the press would like us think. If you own a business and hire 10 workers, that is a business expense and it is a tax right off. If you raise taxes that should not stop a worker from those 10 workers because either way those taxes can be written off like any other business expense. Where taxes may hurt however are those investing in stocks if there was an increase in capitol gains tax. I personally do a lot of stock trading and although I would oppose an increase in capitol gains tax like most other investers. It would not be because it would stop me from investing which would hurt the ecomomy, although that is what I and most others would claim. It is because it would lower my profits. No investor wants that which is why we would all be against such an increase. Just like no one who is making a lot of money would like there profits to go down because of higher taxes.

I personally would love going to a flatter tax system. I however think people WAY over simplify the problem. Has any one considered
      1. Unless business owners can write-off the flat tax it will not encourage investment. If they can write-off business expenses we are back were we started from.
      2. The lower classes would still need additional write-offs unless you want more people living on the streat because the cant afford rent.
      3. The impact to the average person if a someone tried to simply switch to a flat tax. For a single person this may be awsome. What about a family who needs the tax write-offs to help cover medical expenses, children care and other services? Peoples life styles are already based on the current tax system, making any drastic changes to the system could have a very profound imact. You are essentially completely changing the averge persons lifestyle by adjusting how much money they will be bringing home each pay check.

      My 2 cents.

  30. QUESTION:
    California Car Insurance Discounts?
I spoke with my progressive car insurance rep about potential discounts I could be entitled to since I'm only 19 and have only had my license for about a year now. My driving record is clean of any blemishes but I was dismayed to see my premium rise 10% on renewal. My insurance rep informed that because I live in California, I do not qualify for many discounts. This would include a good student discount, upfront premium payoff discount, and others. He also informed me that my premium rose due to an increase in California auto insurance rates. So my question is, are there really state regulations against these kind of discounts in Cali or is this just how my insurance company rolls?

BTW, I just saved 0 on my car insurance! :)
Thanks guys. I'm not too concerned at the moment about finding the cheapest insurance or whether my premium is reasonable. I'd prefer to stick with progressive since they offer pretty good service. I was just curious to which discounts should be available to to me and what determines their availability.

    • ANSWER:
Not all auto insurance in CA raised their rates. Progressive must have through. The Department of Insurance approves a rate increase. But each company is different. Not all companies raised their rates.

Based on what you said the only discount you would not get is the California Good Driver Discount (CGDD) because you have to be licensed 3 years to get that discount. You should still be able to get Good Student discount if your still a full time student with a B average or better.

There is no way to know if your getting a decent premium since you don't say what kind of car you have and the coverage that you have. But call the agent back and ask about mulit-car discount or multi-line discount. Saving money is not the only thing in life. You also need to look at the customer service and how they pay their claims. You want them there when you need them.

  31. QUESTION:
How is a Honda Civic safer than a truck?
Out of curiosity, how is it I would be able to save $xxx on my auto insurance by driving a Honda Civic rather than my 2003 Dodge Dakota R/T? This is a generic safety calculation given on quotes and it seems so logically flawed that I'm tempted to call my current insurance company and get them to acknowledge exactly how vague "safety" is used. I have 4-wheel disc with ABS alongside an aftermarket suspension system, so the handling is pristine. Crashes in these two vehicles are likely incomparable due to the rugged nature of a pickup. So, am I the only one being stubborn here? I'm 18, so I understand huge a huge insurance cost as-is, but how is this justified?

    • ANSWER:
they also calculate the number of wrecks and the cost to repair the damage on each vehicle.also number vehicles stolen and vandalized.

I would imagine it would cost more to repair a Dodge Dakota than a Honda Civic?

your after market suspension may indeed make it handle 100% better but in the eyes of an insurance co you have altered the stock vehicle, they may even consider it unsafe.
you can't use logic or common sense you have to think in terms of cost effectiveness and loss management.

these days if your read your policy closely they probably have it in the small print that they can use replacement parts not stock or new parts to repair your vehicle.
      not original manufactured parts

  32. QUESTION:
    Where to go for insurance?
With so many choices these days and so many incentives that all companies seems to offer, how would you know where to go for a good deal on a quality insurance coverage ? Can you recommend anyone to save me time and money on my auto and home insurance combined deal( like a bundle)?

    • ANSWER:
Look up an Independent Agent in your area, go to www.Trustedchoice.com and search your area. Any of the agents popping up will be local, professional agents who can give you the proper product and service. When you buy home/auto together you'll get a combo discount.

      good luck

  33. QUESTION:
USAA offering discount on insurance based on what services you currently have...?
I currently have a checking account and an auto insurance policy with USAA. They offer a discount on insurance based on what and how many products and services you have with them, therefore, I am thinking about opening a credit card with them (I do not plan on using it).

I currently have an AMEX with a ,000 limit and currently have a balance of 00

I also have a Capital One Visa with a 0 limit and have a balance of 0.

    My credit score is 705.

I already have 2 other checking accounts (Wachovia & ING) and another higher interest savings with ING, so I don't want any more banking services...and I don't plan on making any major purchases for another year or so (buying a house).

Will it bring my score down considering the new inquiry and new card? Is it worth it to open a card and save a couple bucks on car insurance, or should I just leave it be?

    • ANSWER:
I don't think it will. Your credit score is based on just that, credit, now how many cards you have (by the way, nice credit score.) You won't have much problem taking out loans if you need to. lol You may have to check the minimum (if there is one) to make sure you really want that card. Some you have to pay the minimum just to have it, regardless if you use it or not. I would suggest leaving it be. Not to say another card may affect you in the future, but you may not want another "debt" hanging over you. There's a reason they give discounts to "loyal" customers, to get them to do exactly what you are thinking about doing. Good luck.

Oh, by the way, you may want to check out Amtrust Direct. They offer a little higher interest than ING. Theirs is 3.25%. I wish the feds would stop cutting interest rates. That really hurts savings vehicles.

  37. QUESTION:
    Can auto coverage be split?
    Hi everyone

In general, can auto insurance be split:

Let's say, I buy an 08 car and I want to have full coverage. However I also have a 1993 honda and a 92 mazda, can I have these older cars, have a lower coverage, say... liabily + uninsured motors coverage?

I never try to purchase multiple plans. Is there a better way to do this?
I'm sure it depends on the insurance company offers but any tips/ideas for saving money would greatly be appreciated.

I will try to get all my discounts applied, I'm just worried abuot how I can pay...

    Thanks everyone!

    • ANSWER:
You do not need to buy multiple plans. You can have all 3 vehicles on one policy, just put full coverage on the newer vehicle and liability on the other 2. As far as uninsured it depends on what state you live in and if they require it. I know in the state of Texas if you have insured on one vehicle on the policy then it most be on all the vehicles. It will actual come out cheaper this way because you should get a multi-car discount.

  38. QUESTION:
Why use a Broker/Agent to deal with Insurance Company?
    Four Questions:

    1) Why not cut the middle man out (broker/agent) and come to a deal directly with an insurance company (auto insurance, or home insurance)?

    2) If they only deal with brokers/agents then why?

    3) Why not just get my license to become a registered agent/broker, not go into business, and get my insurance at a significant discount that way?

    4) How do brokers/agents get paid? When i see my yearly premium on my auto/home insurance is a percentage of that going to be paid out to the broker/agent..if so then how much can i save if they werent there?

    • ANSWER:
You will pay the same premium even if you don't use a broker or agent. It is illegal in most states for companies to rebate to customers. Therefore, you must pay the same premiums if you have an agent or not. Why wouldn't you want a buffer between you and the company to look out for your best interest?

  39. QUESTION:
How much will i pay for ICBC Insurance on my car?
I am contemplating moving to North Vancouver later this year, and i know what i pay in Manitoba which is also a government run auto insurance province. Its about 1100 for the year. I own a 2003 Nissan Maxima SE 4 Door. I am currently 21 years old, but I believe my parents register my car to save money in MB. Does anyone know what i should expect to pay in Vancouver for ICBC coverage?

    Thanks
I would be driving in excess of 15kms to work/school per day. And, i would want it not to be pleasure, i drive fairly often and longer distances. Also, i have one accident that in Mantioba was considered not my fault as it was an icy road incident. Any rough estimates? Would it be alot more than my 1100 in MB?

    • ANSWER:
it depends on a lot of things like your driving abstract
how often you plan to drive, ocassionaly or to and
from work/school five days a week
it also depends how far you drive to and from
work/school if that is what your driving for the greater
the distance the greater the risk and if you took a drivers
course you can save on collision if you get collision

  40. QUESTION:
Can someone please give me an advice on how to save.?
Im a single man in my 20s, I have no kids, no woman in ma life but i find it pretty hard to save. I make about 0 bi-weekly, i pay 0 rent, for bills, 0 for grocery, 0 for auto insurance and for gym membership. For a couple of months now i've tried to stay on my budget but i run outta money before the next pay day. Im really disturbed, it bothers me a lot to see my money go down the drain. I recently spent about 0 in fixing my car 'cos it started to over heat. I feel the mech ripped me off, my car doesnt even drive like it used to. I dont go out anymore and im starting to ignore my friends. I feel like if i stay home it will do me some good. Please, I need some advice.

    • ANSWER:
Ignore the spam monkey first answer. These guys prey on anyone and everyone they can to drop their spam links. LOL . . .

There is only one way: discipline.

You can discipline yourself by making it REAL. Let's do that, now.

      "I make about 0 bi-weekly"

Let's call it 00/month. This gives you 0/month "mad money."

" pay 0 rent, for bills, 0 for grocery, 0 for auto insurance and for gym membership."

Assuming this is per month, this is 0.

So . . where does the other 0 per month go?

By writing down every cent you spend, it will be a constant reminder of your financial state, you will be more aware of what you are spending and why. It will make it easier to ask, do I need that (six pack, new CD, whatever) as much as I need to save the money? You're not asking these questions now because you don't have **real** answers.

All you know is you work, the money comes, it goes away, you don't know where it goes, you just know it goes.

Write it down, keep a ledger, get a cheap accounting program like QuickBooks SimpleStart, buy everything with debit card so you can track your finances by your bank account. Make it a hobby, track every cent. Awareness is the first step to improving just about anything.

When you start to do this, you will start to think about where and how you can trim off here, there.

You can call your insurance company once every month or so and see if you can trim or per month off your rates, or call around to other insurance companies, who are glad to steal your business, and you'll be glad to let them if you can trim a few bucks off the premiums.

Suddenly you will see your savings/investments increase faster than you ever thought you would.

So commit to saving or investing per month- no make it 0. When you get a thousand or so saved up, invest it in stock, it will grow faster than your savings account. Throw in an extra or when you can.

If there is one bit of advice I wished I'd taken when I was 20 - INVEST. Start now. By the time you're 40 you'll be able to retire if you do it right. You think you're blue now over money? Wait until you're 40 and asking the exact same questions and have less of a future . . . . do it now.

Don't let these parasites into your system in the first place.
Browser "hardening" is now a "must do" end user operation: Internet assault is ceaseless and growing.

Get Firefox as your default browser & use it for everyday surfing; fall back to IE only for "last resort" viewing of substandard websites & Windows updates.

  42. QUESTION:
What Does the Public Option Health Insurance Really Mean?
These are 50 million people who are uninsurable either because they have conditions that no insurance company in their right mind is willing to take on as a risk, or because they simply don't have any money. Most of them don't have addresses, or documentation, or checking accounts. So it's hard to know how one would collect premiums from them under any plan public or private.

But if the government pays their premium for them, aren't we really talking about "Free Medical Care for the Indigent"

Why do we need the euphamism of an health insurance program, aren't we kidding ourselves by saying that.

If pre-existing conditions cannot be used to deny coverage, then it's not a bet, it's a gift. Free medical care is being given to people in exchange for precisely nothing. It's a Freebie. Not an insurance program.

All insurance is a bet. You can't get fire insurance after your house has burned down. You can't get auto insurance after you've crashed your car. So what sort of health insurance can you get after you have some terrible very expensive illness? None! That's right!

Insurance is a bet not a gift. The company on the other end of the contract is betting you won't get sick and you are betting that you will. But if you are sick, all we can talk about is Freebie healthcare for you, we can't really talk about insurance -- no rational company would ever make the bet.

So this is sort of like the Bad Bank that was supposed to take all those toxic mortgages. This is the Crazy Government Health insurance provider, that insures the uninsurable and then pays their premiums for them. It's 100% gift.

Where does the money come from? From draining the Medicare Trust Fund -- which working people have paid into by their FICA taxes for 40 years, and now are hoping to have as a financial bulwark in their retirement years.

Where does the money go? It goes to the ACORN street people, the people with no addresses, the people with no ID, the people who are sick, and real sick, and not likely to be made well anytime soon by any amount of healthcare no matter how lavishly provided.

And you can be sure that under a public option, these people will insist on getting everything.

So covering that 50 million is not going to be a cost saver. Especially if they can't pay premiums. Getting every poor person a 50 pound bar of gold would not be a cost saver. Building a fine mansion for every street person would not be a cost saver. The arithmetic here is not complex -- zero money in, hundreds of trillions out, you're not saving money. Go back to business school, try again.

The money for the poorest of the poor has to come from somewhere. The Medicare Trust Fund will be raided, drained, and gone. So, all those retirees will be robbed, larcenized, and dishonorably deprived of their bargain with Uncle Sam. In the end, the money will be exhausted, and the Obama Version of Uncle Sam will come out a spiv and a deadbeat with no ability to do anything. Even the ACORN people won't get any more blood out of that turnip.

Hopefully in two weeks, the whole Obama-Care thing will go down the drain. Washington will know that Americans won't sit still for it. And they shouldn't -- it is an outrage of larceny most vile.
    For July:

    1. Compassion is rarely a prime ingredient in long-term good policy, which ordinarily is based on sustainable cash flows that at least come out even.

    2. Medical bankrupcy is not fiscally sound as a way of handling the risk of illness striking a less-than-rich person. I'm not against any solution to the health insurance problem. I'm against the Howard Dean/Barack Obama solution as presented so far.

    3. Unless you have an MBA with honors from a top school, a JD, and twenty five years experience as a Federal Trial lawyer and policy assistant, I don't think you are more educated than me, even if you do smell good, which for the sake of argument, I will accept as a fact.

    4. I have proposed free primary care clinics located near emergency room entrances, staffed by doctors on the Federal payroll. I have proposed tort reform to get lawyers off the back of the medical profession. And, I have proposed that the corporate tax deduction for employee health plans be eliminated.

    • ANSWER:
This is not a question. This is a rant. And an ill-conceived one, utterly devoid of compassion or accurate facts.

Recently I visited a doctor and, over the course of 15 minutes of smalltalk, racked up a 0 out of pocket expense. I had health insurance I was purchasing myself, at considerable expense, but that that wasn't structured to pay such "small" fees. I couldn't afford better insurance anymore than I could afford that medical bill. I'm likely better educated than you, have a permanent address, and am a good credit risk. I'm attractive, middle class, and smell good. But if I were to become seriously ill or injured, I'd lose literally everything including, most likely, my health insurance plan. There are millions of people like me.

Do you think medical bankruptcy, a cause of nearly 60% of bankruptcies, is good for the economy? Do you think having your so-called indigent people able to obtain medical care only at ERs at considerable cost and often loss when regular, preventive visits to a GP would prevent most major health problems is fiscally sound? Do you think?

(im 21, the car is 15k chevy cobalt, but im going to try to haggle the dealership for a few thousand off by walking in with cash). I have no way other than taxi to get to and from the dealership because my friends are all poor and my father is mentally ill and will not/cannot help me out. 2) once bought, will i have to physically leave the dealership, go home, buy progressive auto insurance, then run back there and pick the car up?
    3) can i have the car towed home?
    4) What documents besides my drivers liscence do i need to bring with me??
Thanks for any answers to help me on my feet!

  45. QUESTION:
What are the effects on voluntary Auto Repo towards student loans? Serious answers please!?
I have finally gone after my dream and gotten into a university, however prior to this I had a car financed and the combined insurance and payments are murder. I've been suggested to do voluntary auto repo but I'm concerned how this will hurt my ability for student loans, I need real facts here, because i've heard that they don't hold your credit against you for student loans but i need to know before i go through with this, i need to save as much money as possible for college so everything would help with this but i need hard facts! If anyone has had an auto repo and gotten student loans please help if you know.

    • ANSWER:
+ Have you considered selling your car and paying off the loan? Should you get a job at the university they may have a policy that lets employee's go to school for free. I received my 3rd masters from MIT by working there, and I think that my total out of pocket for it was 0. I made a fair wage while I was there about .000 per year to support my self and family. I heard that Harvard and Tufts have similar programs so that leads me to believe that many of the colleges and universities do. Give it a try and see if they have any jobs that you might be able to do. Take the easiest one. Night Lab Cleaners seem to be in high demand at most schools.
      Good Luck

  46. QUESTION:
Do you think Republicans secretly acknowledge that Obama is a great president?
    Obama's achievements so far:

    1. DOW up over 70% from March '09 low of 6300.
    2. Home sales up in June even after voucher program expired.
    3. Cash 4 Clunkers program saved the auto industry and now they are selling at record pace.
    4. Unemployment declining after reaching 10% (Reagan had 10% unemployment also)
    5. Has exit strategy for Iraq (something the previous moron never had) and troops will leave soon.
    6. Gave 50 million uninsured Americans (mostly children) health insurance.
    7. Isnt on vacation all the time like the lazy retard he replaced. Dumbya went golfing and a month-long vacation after being told about the 9-11 plot!!!!!!!

    Republicons must hate the fact he's a shoo-in for a 2nd term.

And don't tell me about how Obama's approval rating is down. Dumbya had a 90% approval rating just after 9/11 then it fell to 16% and he left office with 22% the lowest in history. Clinton also had 40% approval rating then left office with the highest ever 68%.

Obama's approval rating will be way higher than the retard he replaced.

    • ANSWER:
Absolutely, that is why they became the" party of NO" they realize that he passes bills for the American people that he will win another election. They are fighting him every step of the way, including things that they (GOP) have asked for, when he says OK, then they don't want it anymore, they have become odoriferous!

  47. QUESTION:
I think I'm ready to move out - can I get your opinion? Should I move out? What preperations should I make?
I just got a new job working as a Canine Tech Specialist at an organization that takes animals and trains them to be therapy dogs - very exciting stuff. I'm a big animal maniac so this is the perfect job for me- I plan on being there for a while while I save for vet tech. school. I'm 19 years old.

I make .50 an hour and work an average of 40 hours a week. The apartment I want is 0/month (that includes the pet fee per month) and the deposit is . I have a crappy, but semi-reliable car. It hasn't broke down yet, but it is very old. My commute to work won't be very far. I live in Ohio. My dad will still be covering my auto insurance - which is cool.

What I'm wondering is - how much should I save before taking the big leap? How much will bill be on average each month? Will I have enough to support myself? I very much want to do this, but am a little scared to put it honostly :) lol.

What are your opinions and words of advice? Thank you for your time and attention!

    • ANSWER:
7.50 and hour is probably less than 1000/mo net pay - 0/mo rent is a very high percentage of that, add 200/month food and household items (toiletries, paper products, 50-200/month for heat/electric a/c, 100-200/mo for car gas, oil, repairs, plus cable TV, internet access, emergency funds, doctor visit copays, medicine - plus maybe deposits for utilities since you never had any in your own name - what happens if car dies , then you have added car payment, if you qualify for a loan - doesn't look like you can afford to live by yourself - might still be tight even with a roommate - if you're planning on going to school - you won't be able to save any money FOR s
chool - stay at home and save for school (and probably a car)

  48. QUESTION:
i recently scratched a car in a parking lot. the cost is 0. should i pay myself or use insurance (geico) ?
It was totally my fault. The estimate from auto shop is 0. is it good to pay from my pocket and save on premium increase or use the liability insurance from my company (geico) ? i was with them for past 8 months
and never made any claims in past. I currently pay 00 towards my premium annually. Any idea as how much can my insurance go up if i make claim ?

    • ANSWER:
I have had that same thing happen (except not a scratch). A drunk hit my car and took off...never to be seen again. To fix my car it was 0. I could file on insurance and pay the 0 deductible and then have to go through the hassle of renting a car OR I could just pay the deductible and the extra 0. The body shop guy was wonderful and had everything waiting for me and did it all on a Saturday. Think about it...even if (as the other answer states) your insurance only goes up 10%, in my case that would be every 6 months. Claims generally stay with you for 36 months. I would have come out ahead. I just think it's better to pay out of pocket.

  49. QUESTION:
Insurance deductible- how can I not pay?
Ok so here is the thing. A guy backed out onto be in a parking lot and hit my driver side back door, wheel, and bumper causing 5000 dollars in damage. I'm in NY>
ok so, now i'm gonna file under my insurance for the sake of TIME and pay the 1000$ deductible if need be, and then since he IS at fault, let them go after his insurance company. OK so the question is; my car is now no longer under the manafucturer warranty, is there anyway I can tell the ford auto body shop - a liberty mutual insurance company preferred shop; to put non oem parts on my car (like the door and bumper) and take the money they save from that and apply it towards my deductible? OR is there anyway I can do that going to another body shop? and if so, how would I go about that, and is it legal?

    • ANSWER:
Short answer, yes.. it is possible. I've had it done... for example: Geico writes up an estimate with OEM/new parts, shop used non-OEM/used parts and saved me half of my deductable. It is legal, because you aren't necessarily defrauding the insurance co. They create an ESTIMATE of what THEY THINK it will take to repair the vehicle to same condition. IE: if they have 10 hours of paint work estimated and it only takes 5.... or if they write up a new door panel but a new one cannot be found, it will not change the payout. Only if it winds up taking more time or more $$$.

Will a dealer body shop do that for you? Probably not. The place I went to was a well-known mom and pop outfit. They found a used panel for me for a bit less than a new one which saved me 0. It looks perfect, fit's perfectly and is guaranteed for life by the body shop. It was a lot harder of a job for them to have to work with and cut, but I guess they didn't really care.

  50. QUESTION:
How can I reduce my car payments?
I bought my car last year at a time when I had a lot less expenses. I'll be moving since my lease is up at the end of this month, and the apartment I'm moving to is in my price range, but is definitely more expensive than what I've been playing in the place I'm in now. I still have about ,000 left in my car payments, so I'm wondering if there is a way to trade in the car I'm driving now for something a little cheaper, so I can save on the payments and also the auto insurance (I live in NJ, the insurance is ridiculous). Would I have to pay out the rest of the loan if I wanted to trade it back to the dealer for something else on the lot? I'm a very new car buyer so I'm not exactly sure how it all works. Is this something I should just contact the dealership about?

    • ANSWER:
If your credit it good you can refinance your loan. Trading your car for in still owing on it will make the dealer combine your old payments with the new ones so you'd probably pay more.
