QUESTION:
What Kind of Discounts do Auto Insurance Companies Give?
I'm going to be talking to an insurance agent later on, and i want to write down a list of discounts to ask them about. Please let me know your ways to gets discounts from the auto insurance companies.. I'm 29
drive a 98 camero-
ANSWER:
It varies from company to company. Each company sets up their rate plan (the mathematical formula they use to calculate your premium) differently, giving different values to different factors. One company might favor older drivers, one younger, another might be set up to favor only the very safest drivers. You have to compare different companies to make sure you have the right fit. If the agent you are meeting with is an independent agent, he or she can compare several companies for you. If they only deal in one company, I recommend some comparison shopping before you sign anything.

QUESTION:
Cheap auto insurance, could this be possible?
Today I called several local auto insurance companies because I need insurance for my Taurus and I found some ok rates, how ever after doing a Google search I found a site called Auto Insurance Monster (www.AutoInsuranceMonster.com) and they had some reviews for several auto insurance companies. After reading some of the articles I decided to get a quote from one of the insurance companies listed there.
After getting my quote I found that the rate was 17% lower than my local insurance company.
Are these rates real? could they be scams, the companies listed are always on tv and they have very professional websites, but I just can not believe the rates I found on Auto Insurance Monster.
Should I stay with my local insurer or go with the online services?
-
ANSWER:
Of course it's possible that the rates could be lower. Things to watch: the rating of the insurance carrier, are the limits they are offering the same as what you have?, are they Excluding any coverages you had before. There is always a better deal out there but you must pay close attention to what you are buying

QUESTION:
Do auto insurance companies charge more for female head of household applicants?
My husband and I have been looking for new auto insurance. I have a better credit score, and have never had a single traffic problem. My husband had an accident in Feb. and his credit score is lower. We both make the same amount of money, so I don't understand why the insurance companies quote higher amounts when I am listed first.
I did search online. Geico was one that almost doubled in price for me verses my husband. I first started with him being the main applicant and me the spouse. I then tried it with me being the main applicant and him being the spouse. The cars listed and all other information was the same. This is not fair at all.
Come on people, read the question. I am not looking for the cheapest insurance, I am wondering why I am being charged so much more than my husband for the same vehicles.-
ANSWER:
No, they don't charge more for female heads of household. It's going to be based on your credit score - and if you've been married a while, there's not going to be much difference in your score. It's ALSO going to be based on drivers, and his points will be put on both quotes. The difference is, most likely, some of the companies are running credit scores and MVR reports up front. Some will won't. There's no guarantee that any of these quotes you're getting, will STICK.

QUESTION:
Do auto insurance companies have to show you the ads of comparable vehicles if requested?
Ok, my car was recently totaled, and to put it bluntly, the insurance company is trying to pull a fast one on me. First, in the report they put the incorrect mileage on the car and then tried to say the car had no sun roof. I fixed that problem and they raised their adjustment by 00.Now, in the "mitchell vehicle valuation" report, they have 3 cars listed as comparable vehicles. Two of the ads I can confirm are real as I found them myself. The third ad seems very fishy, as there is no VIN number for the car in the ad, or stock number, and it's just listed as a "Private Web Listing". Also, this ad just happens to be selling the car for 00 less than what the other ads are advertising for.
Now, my question is, in the state of Arizona, do I have the right to demand to see this ad and verify its authenticity?
The "Private Web Listing" is claimed to be on cars.com, but I can not find it.-
ANSWER:
There are several ways that you can consider.Call your local agent or do the online quote yourself.Take which way,it depends on your time and knowledge.

QUESTION:
My auto insurance covers anybody who drives my car...is my teen covered? I cannot afford to list him....?
Me and my teen have a car. I have both cars listed on my insurance with full coverage. If he is not covered is there an insurance company that will cover a driver of his age without listing him?-
ANSWER:
If you have a teen with a valid license that lives in your household then he/she will be covered (by law) in case of a claim. The insurance company insists that you notify them that your teen now has a license. Your rates will increase but they will increase even if your teen doesn't ever drive your car. The theory is that since they MUST cover anyone who has access to the keys,They insist that you notify them that your teen now has a license. If you don't notify then and they find out (and they will find out), they will go back to the day that the teen got their license, bill you extra for that and then they may cancel you.

QUESTION:
If my auto insurance gave me false information can I sue them?
My car was broken into and this resulted in a broken window. I filed a report with police and then filed a claim with my auto insurance. I spent all day literally (8:00am-5:00pm) dealing with my insurance company. They kept telling me that they couldnt find anyone who could get me in to get my window fixed. I finally found a auto glass shop that could repair my window and was on the list of shops with my insurance company. Then, my insurance company said that the local shop would not "match their price".We were having tornado warnings in my area that night so I wanted to get the window fixed that day. They told me the best they could do was to suggeest using a trashbag and tape and cover it up the best I could. I found out today from this auto glass company that my insurance lied to me just because they didnt want to pay the claim. Can I sue my insurance company for giving me false information?-
ANSWER:
What exactly would be the grounds for your "suit". How were you "damaged"? What kind of compensation are you looking for?I really doubt that your insurance company lied to you, and did not want to pay your claim. If you have the proper coverage for this loss, comprehensive and/or glass coverage, there is no reason why your insurance company would not cover you.
Perhaps the damage was below your deductible if it applied.Consider contacting a supervisor if you are not happy with how your claim was handled. But suing, that is just plain silly.

QUESTION:
Auto insurance listed driver question?
My question is as follows:
What is the difference between me allowing someone to drive my car and me having someone listed as a second driver on my insurance policy when it comes to an accident. What are the differnces in the two situations at the time of an accident claim being filed?I know if the person I let drive my car had no fault in the accident, my rate wouldn't go up if I settle with my own insurance company. But if its the person who is driving my car's fault, are my insurance premiums affected? If yes, then what is the difference in not having the person listed at all and still making a claim through my own insurance.
I ask because I am thinking of putting my girlfriend who drivers my car sometimes listed as a driver on the policy. Would this protect me or my premiums in anyway in case of an accident compared to not having her listed at all?
-
ANSWER:
I think it will protect you if she were driving and got into an accident that wasn't her fault. But if she were not added and she were to get into an accident, regardless if it is her fault or not then it may cause your premium to go up.

QUESTION:
Why did my auto insurance company "exclude" a lot of people in my family.?
Yesterday i went to my auto insurance agent and got insurance for all of my cars. Today i was reviewing all the paper work that they made me sign. Well one of them was a excluded driver list that i signed for. In total there was 35 names that were excluded ranging for Sons, parents, brothers, cousins and a few friends and it states that if they drive any of the cars.. the car is consider uninsured and can be fined. My question is. How did they get all those names? Is this legal? Do all companies do this or is it just this one?
The auto insurance agency is a small local agency.-
ANSWER:
Contact your agent. He's the only one who can give you the answers.

QUESTION:
What to do about auto insurance policies...?
My husband has auto ins. w/Geico but he recently left for deployment. Since I'm not on the policy yet at Geico I know I have to send in the Power of Attorney to even have access of any information or to make pymts, ect.
I also know that once you are married most or all auto insurance companies require that the husband and wife are on the same policy. I was told that if I am already covered w/another auto insurance company then all I have to do is send something in to Gieco.
I am still listed w/my parents' auto ins. coverage w/ USAA b/c they still have the title of the car & stuff that I'm driving in their name(s). But I give them $ for all the pymts (trying to get all that changed to my name if I can) Even if I am still listed w/them, I'm still covered for everything so could I just get a copy of the insurance and registration for my car and give that to Geico then be on the same policy with my husband and not get charged for it. Or what exactly would I have to do?-
ANSWER:
Call Geico without giving them too much detail, give them your husband's insurance policy number and ask how much it would cost to add you to the policy. That's a normal thing for married people to do and should not be any problem. After all, you've had insurance through USAA for a while. They'll be happy to add you to the policy for a few hundred dollars a year.

Unless your teacher defined 'best' in the assignment then they are a moron. QUESTION:
How long does it take for an auto insurance company to investigate and claim liability?
My daughter was in a car accident on Feb. 25. She was traveling straight in the southbound lane, when a rushing man in the northbound lane turned left in front of her. The driver admitted that he was upset because he had been following a school bus for the last 20 minutes and his friend, whom he was trying to pick up, was late for work. He stated that when he saw the driveway that he cut from behind the bus to turn in then realized from the skidding that he turned in front of a car. His insurance company is still investigating and waiting for pics of the scene and his friends statement. I was told by his insurance company (USAA) that witnesses not listed on the police report could not be used, but his friend is not on the police report and they are waiting for her statement. NC State Highway Patrol responded to the scene and the driver was cited for failure to yield the right of way. The driver was apologetic and admitted several times around a number of people that he must have blanked out or was daydreaming from the frustration of the school bus. USAA is saying that they need to make sure that my daughter was not 1% at fault, meaning speeding perhaps. The officer estimated her speed at impact at around 40 mph and the speed limit is 55mph. She hit the drivers back tire of his Jeep Wrangler (small truck) causing him to rest in a small trench or ditch ion the side of the attempted driveway. The front passenger side above the front tire and the front by the headlight is damaged on her car. She tried to avoid him, protect her younger sister (13) and avoid veering to much left in fear of hitting the school bus. My girls were terrified when I arrived 15 minutes after the accident. USAA stated that she may have had time to instanly stop, but she tried everything that she could do. In my opinion, she should have never been put into that situation. USAA is saying that points of contact are off, but my insurance agent said that she hit the back tire because a Jeep Wrangler is only 5 ft long and he was not towing a boat or driving a common sized vehicle. Plus the driver admitted to pushing down on the accelerator when he realized what was happening. I just need to have someones advice on this matter before hiring a lawyer. Thank you.
Plus I had to pay 450.00 for towing and storage because the agent (whom I had yet to talk to) wrote a letter stating that they would only cover charges if they accept liability up to March 4. USAA did not send an adjuster to the towing yard until March 9. I call and call the agent will not return my calls, so I only talk to other USAA reps.-
ANSWER:
Sorry to say there is no definitive time line, the facts seem pretty straight forward. I would talk to the adjuster at your insurance company. Liability is a matter for your insurance company to dispute with the other insurance company. There are fault determining rules the adjuster will use to assist is deciding who is at fault. This one seems pretty clear cut, I don't think a lawyer needs to get involved, if you adjuster is dragging their feet ask for a supervisor.
Pay the towing and storage if you can, to avoid any negative impact on your credit, your insurance company will reimburse you.
But talk to the agent it could be that they are just waiting for some finer details, it is not uncommon for a person to say the events happened one way to later find out it was a completely different story.
If the agent isn't returning your calls, call and ask for a supervisor, or write a letter.

QUESTION:
Anyone work for an auto insurance company or experience? Please help!?
Okay this is my situation. My mom and I have a car, that is in my name alone. I do not drive the car because I simply don't have the money to pay for the high insurance costs. My mom paid for insurance in her name to drive the car. She was listed as an operator. They still put my name on it because the car was in my name. But I was not an operator. And so our costs were low of course. At the time, I had a permit. When I got my license, I input my name and info to add a driver online thinking I would get a quote for how much it was going, but it actually added me, and when I called the company telling them about the misunderstanding, they said they couldn't take my name off the policy as a driver because I have a license, and that the car is accesable to me because I do have a license(liability). Now the premium has gone up excessively. They said that I can't take my name off the policy unless I dont live at home, or give up my license. Is this truly the only options?-
ANSWER:
Hello Jelly,Yea they are giving you the correct information with the exception of some states and some carriers. Being that the car is in your name and you are now a licensed driver it is required you be on the insurance policy as well. Excluding you as a driver is not really an option unless like someone said you do not reside in the home or have regular access to the car. I.e. you’re away at collage (Which could be a discount with some insurance carries) or you live out of State something like that, but since you’re the registered owner most carriers will not exclude you. The other option is changing the registration from your name to your moms then excluding yourself from the policy, but this would mean if you drive the car, get into an accident there will be no coverage afforded.
I'm not sure what your age is or other particulars, but I would suggest that if you wish to remain the registered owner of the car start shopping insurance rates. Remember that in some cases if you are a good student you may get a discount for that, plus if you are not the Primary driver that could help somewhat, but regardless you are going to be hit with an inexperienced driver surcharge for at least next 3 years. But there is bright spot, you should start to see a little decrease in price on your policy each time it renews if you remain claim/ticket free and you will be building insurance experience which also earns you discounts with some carries. What this means to you is that each time your policy comes up for renewal you can re-shop the rate and see if there are companies offering better discounts.
I know it's rough right now but insurance will get less expensive as you gain experience and you maintain it as well as stay claim/ticket free, it's somewhat like building credit. We will at first have to endure all types of declinations high interest rates and so on, but as we work hard to maintain our good credit rating eventually better things do come along it's just a matter of time and just enduring.
Good luck hope all works out well for you.

QUESTION:
What company do you use for auto insurance?
What kind of coverage do you have and is it cheap? I have Statefarm and I think they are ripping me off. On every one of my statements they list "policy changes" and charge around five dollars each month. TIA.-
ANSWER:
I had GEICO for 12 years but grew tired of seeing my insurance increase as the cars grew older. I went thru one of those Agent companies and was connected with a ripoff called Safeway - high premium without the perks of towing, uninsured motorists and rental. I quickly dropped them. I have a newer car and didn't feel comfy riding around with such janky insurance.I now have Allstate. Plenty of discounts. Full Service w/ tow and rental reimbursement. Cheaper than GEICO and I like the customer service.
But be mindful when shopping. As you are probably aware companies perform credit checks - but what floored me is that when the companies checked my insurance history with GEICO they saw two (2) claims on my policy. I was clueless because to my knowledge I never filed any claim. Come to find out when I stopped at one of those "Windshield/Crack Repair" shops to have a crack sealed up about five years ago - GEICO listed it as a claim. What causes problems is when you try to get a quote the "other company" doesn't see what type of claim, or the amount - they just see "a claim" was filed and automatically think the worst (i.e. accident and totaled vehicle) and then give you a high quote.

QUESTION:
Which Insurance Companies Pay Their Claims Adjusters Best?
I know there's lots of variations depending on where you live, experience etc, but generally speaking, which insurance companies pay their claims adjusters the best out of the ones listed below?- State Farm
- Allstate
- Liberty Mutual
- Nationwide
- Farmer's
- Chubbs
- Safe Auto
- Progressive
- Erie...and any other of the big companies you can think of.
Also, what fields that are more lucrative than claims adjusting, can a claims adjuster potentially parlay into, inside or outside of working for a big insurance company?
-
ANSWER:
Erie isn't a big company, IMO. But they're all about the same.Any independent claims adjuster who's established (read, who can get the work) makes more than a company one.
Sales is the highest paying job, just like in any other industry - but it's commission based, not salary based. So if you don't sell, you don't eat. Great salespeople will ALWAYS make more money than just about any other position.

QUESTION:
Advice on becoming a secondary driver on b/f's auto insurance...?
Hi there!A friend of mine took a defensive-driving course last year, she is 46 yrs old and got her license last summer. The day she passed her road test, her boyfriend put her on his insurance plan as a secondary driver, and it only cost him another a month. I'm 38 yrs old, have just taken the same defensive-driving course and got my license this week. When my boyfriend called his insurance company to have me listed, they quoted him a small fortune to have me as a secondary driver. I wasn't with him when he spoke to his broker; I was hoping to get some advice or reasoning regarding this.
I'd also like to know if anyone could tell me how much more they have paid for insurance after listing a secondary driver. I have to say that it's extremely discouraging to have paid so much for this course, then find out that I can't drive the only car that's available to me unless I pay nearly 0 dollars in fees until his policy renews... in just over a month! Wow! Apparently when it renews, the policy will change, and then it will be much cheaper, but not until then... WTF?
I should add that I'm from Nova Scotia, Canada... because rates and laws vary from region to region. Here, anyone can drive my b/f's car so long as they do not live in the same household... so my friends could drive his car, but I can't. Frustrating!!!!
-
ANSWER:
So it appears you live at the same address. You have two choices it appears, pay the 0 for fees, or don't drive his car until the policy renews and it will become cheaper.

QUESTION:
Call auto insurance company to make sure they have all of my accidents recorded?
I recently purchased an auto policy on a new car through a major national company. When I was wrapping up paperwork on my new car, I called to pay for the policy but was told a much higher rate than I was quoted (about /month more). I asked why and was told that one of my accidents was not listed, so I said "dang, is there anything else I can do?" He said he'd check and put me on hold. When he came back online it was dropped significantly (less than I originally had planned). When I asked what he did he said that they had a "duplicate accident" recorded on my file. After I signed the paperwork, I noticed that my most recent accident isn't showing up on my driving history. The other one (and my speeding ticket) both show up and the accident says it was found out by my application and "CLUE" report.
I sense that the guy was trying to either help me save money, help himself make some sales or both. What would you do in this situation? I definitely listed all of my incidents/accidents on my original application. Should I just keep my mouth shut or should I call them?
I know that my accident history report has been pulled too, because I only reported month/year of incidents but the policy shows actual dates of my prior incidents. Also, I have just switched to this company from another.
-
ANSWER:
insurance companies are among the biggest crooks in the world so why would you offer to let them take more money from your pocket? salesmen are watched by the underwriters so i doubt he was giving you a deal. ive been over charged when my old insurer told me i had an accident that i didnt have so id not lose sleep over getting one up on them. if they do catch on they cant send you a bill for whats already past."Bank error in your favor Collect 0"

QUESTION:
Help!!! My Auto Insurance Company is refusing to cover my rental car!!!?
I am insured by USAA & have been for over 12 yrs. A few months back I was involved in a hit and run accident. I did not immediately notify USAA of the incident because I did not file a police report at the scene and I didn’t know if the car was even repairable and just a few weeks prior to the accident I had just reinstated my policy after letting it lapse because of being laid-off and not having income. After notifying local Police I was told that in my state (TN) that if you don’t file a report at the scene of the accident you can not get a “delayed report”. At the time of the accident I could not get the drivers tag # because of him fleeing. So after talking to friends, family, and a police officer friend I decided to file the claim. All the while my car was sitting at the wrecker yard. I contacted USAA two weeks after the accident & gave a statement. They moved my car from the wrecker yard to a USAA approved shop where it was deemed a total loss. Now let me also say that approx a week before the accident I had gone into a rental car company and rented a car for my Brother who is not old enough to rent one himself (19) you must be (21+). I rented the car in my name and listed him as a secondary driver. He is also insured by USAA so he’s covered for any car he might drive. He personally does not own a vehicle and had gotten a new job so he needed a way back & forth from work temporarily until he could work something out. So the afternoon of the accident I contacted the rental car co and explained that I, myself had been involved in an accident in my own car and that I was going to need to keep the rental car but wasn’t sure for how long. I told them that it was going to be an insurance claim and that I would pay for the week and one day that was not insurance related. So from that day forward USAA should have picked up the tab for my rental car because I have rental coverage/reimbursement on my policy. USAA sent me some paperwork to sign for my title and told me that once they received it that they would release the settlement check into my account. After not hearing anything for 5 days I contacted USAA & was informed that my claim was sent to their Investigations Department. This enraged me because no one had called to question me or inform me that the claim had been halted. I finally got in touch w my Adjuster and she said the reason it was being investigated was because of the date I got into the rental car and that an Investigator would be contacting me. So three days later I get a call from this Man and I agree to meet him in person to explain the dates and why I rented a car a week before my accident occurred. Had I known that by me renting my Brother a rental car in my name would have caused all this trouble, trust me, I wouldn’t have done it. When I met with the Investigator he was mean and interrogated me like I was some kind of criminal. I know that’s his job but let’s be honest, If I’m going to try & pull insurance fraud it wouldn’t be on an older car that’s paid off and is over a decade old. With all that being said the Investigator took over three weeks to complete his investigation and sent my info back to my Adjuster who by the way told me that if they did decide to cover the claim they were NOT going to cover my rental car. No one from USAA called to tell me that the claim was going to be covered and that the investigation was complete. I had to contact them relentlessly until finally I spoke w someone that simply said “Ok, looks like everything’s good to go. You should see the $ in your account within 5-7 days”. They kept horrible communication with me, the insured. They did finally put the $ into my account for the value of the car but I’m still out all of this money for my rental. It wasn’t my decision to investigate the claim, it was theirs and they drug their feet for over a month to settle this claim so they should be responsible for the rental because I have the coverage on my policy. If someone could please give me some suggestions on what I can do or what my rights are as the insured I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much!!!!-
ANSWER:
holy christ use some paragraphs. even if your insurance company provides you with a rental car why would they insure it, you have to opt for it when you rent the car

QUESTION:
Question about disclosure on auto insurance?
Hello,I'm wondering about disclosure on auto insurance. I've recently filled out an online quote on the Geico website, however I don't know if I'm supposed to put accidents committed by other people. My daughter committed 3 accidents over the past 5 years, none of which involved me. She used to take my car without consent nearly every day. I don't want the insurance to know this so she won't get in trouble. My premiums are about 5 monthly since I have a clean record but are over 0 if I list her accidents. A few months ago, I was taking to an insurance company which quoted me 0 and I asked if they included the accidents not committed by me. The representative on the phone told me that they do not need to be included because this is an auto insurance quote. I have no idea what that means so please shed some light on this if possible.
Thanks in advance!
Thanks for your answer. I left this out in my original post. She was never on my insurance policy, not even on the one I had before. Let me know how if this impacts anything.-
ANSWER:
If you were to have her on your policy, then they would most likely need to be included. If this policy does not include her, then I see no reason why those accidents would be required as they are not on your driving record. They are on her driving record.

QUESTION:
Are licensed independent insurance agent required to have an physical agency location to sell for ins carriers
I'm a Florida 220 General Lines Licensed Agent.I'm seeking to offer a simpler way of shopping for auto insurance by providing the cheapest auto insurance quotes from top 15 insurance companies to consumers via my website.
The completion of the application will take less than five minutes. We will match the consumers application to all affiliated insurance companies. Then our system will show the lowest rates out of those fifteen for you. After you compare car insurance rates you will be given the option to purchase a low cost policy online.
I would like to get set up with the following insurance companies: Progressive, GEICO, AIG, Arrowhead, Electric, Encompass, Esurance, The Hartford, Liberty Mutual, MetLife, Permanent General, Safeco, Travelers, and Unitrin.
By comparing rates from a broad list of companies we'll improve the consumers chances of purchasing the cheapest insurance.

ANSWER:
Sure you need an address, but most don't care if you're working out of your house or not.You sound like you need to write a business plan (try www.sba.gov and www.score.org as starting resources). There are other companies that already do this (not the least of which is Progressive that sells a different contracts online than through the brokerage system), so the section about competition and marketing will be critical. You should also either be realistic about the cost of the site creation, data management, CRM, and so on, or you need to have the skills to program and maintain the whole thing yourself.
If there are package deals where you can just subscribe to a quoting system and pick a template to wrap around it with your company name, this is a clear indication that the bones of the business are not unique. If that's the case, can you do your own SEO, why would a shopper choose you instead of someone else? what's your unique selling proposition? how are you allocating your advertising budget?
I'm not saying it can't be done, in fact you could be raking money in before too long, but a detailed and researched business plan is your opportunity to work out the wrinkles. Failing miserably because you couldn't track the conversion ratio of each marketing campaign would suck.

QUESTION:
I have a question regarding auto insurance and my 17-year-old son driving under a learner's permit with parent
We live in the state of Alabama, and I have full coverage insurance on my car. My son, who lives with me, has a learner's permit, but not his license, and only drives on occasion, always with me (his mother) in the car. Do I need to notify my insurance company that he is driving with me under a learner's permit so that he will be listed as a "driver" on my policy (even though he does not have his official license as yet)? Or do I notify my insurance company only once he actually has his drivers license?-
ANSWER:
Without reading your policy form, most of the time you don't need to add them until they actually have a license.Technically, the only policy form I've ever seen that requires you to add a person under permit, is Progressive's and Leader's. I've read other policies from companies that WANT you to add them when they get their permit (thus charging you a higher premium, earlier), but the POLICY form refers to "licensed driver", so the company would have to cover a permitted driver.
I'd call your agent, anonymously, and ask them "hypothetically". That's the safest way.

QUESTION:
How does getting a speeding ticket affect auto insurance?
About 4 months ago I caused a car accident while driving my parents car, I was not listed on their insurance plan. They added me onto their plan right after the accident. 2 months later I got a speeding ticket (going 75mph on 70mph zone). My fine is almost 0 and I have the option to attend traffic school so that the speeding ticket will not show up as a "point" on my record. I plan on doing this.
However, my parents just received a letter from the insurance company saying that they will no longer represent me AND my dad. Do you know if the speeding ticket has anything to do with this --Would they have been notified? Or is this because of my accident from 4 months ago? I just turned 21 and live in CA.Thank you
Peter- Wait, I have to show up in court? The document that was mailed to me said I only need to go to court if I want to contest it. Should I call them to make sure?-
ANSWER:
Most likely because of the accident from 4 months ago. Because maybe it was your fault or maybe it wasn't but still you didn't have insurance. Now me and my dad are with Safeco Insurance and he got 2 speeding tickets in 2009 and attended traffic school however for the second violation he wasn't elegible and its still on his record. We pay a 6 month policy of 4.00! Without renters insurance it was going to be ,054.00 every 6 months! When I talked to my local agent I asked her how much was my dads ticket affecting our insurance rates? And she said it was by 20% percent. And the most bad thing is that it will stay up for 3 years! The thing is that insurance companies want to prevent from people getting into accidents because they just don't want to loose money. But that is rediculous getting stopped by a cop for only going over the speed limit by 5 miles more? That cop must of been in a bad mood that day. Well hate to say this but tough luck because you won't just have a bad driving record and will be paying more to have good car insurance but you will also have to retake your written test over again when its to renew your license.

QUESTION:
Auto Insurance: Name Insured and Operator...?
We have two cars and they both titled/registered under my mom's name. I take one of hers to college about 50 miles away and use it daily. Today, we switched to another insurance because of lower premium. This new company issued us a set of new insurance ID card. On the card, there is only my mom's name on the name insurance (it has both of our name on the old insurance company). My name is only listed in the coverage page on the premium as an operator. Now, my questions:
1. Should it has her name only or both of our names?
2. If there is only her name, am I insured when I get into an accident (knock on wood)?
3. If I let my friend drive my car in a special occasion, and he got into an accident. Which company should I claim, his or mine? What if he doesn't have any insurance? Would my insurance rate go up after on?
4. If I drive my friend's car and I get into an accident (both of us have insurance). Again, Which company should be claimed, his or mine? Would my insurance go up?Thanks.
-
ANSWER:
1. Even if you are the operator of the vehicle, your mom's name should be listed on the insurance ID card because she is the title holder.
2. As long as you are listed as an operator in the policy you will be covered.
3.If your friend drives your car with your permission and gets into an accident, then the claim should be handled by your company, and your rate will increase.
4. If you drive your friend's car with permission his company will handle the claim, and his rate will increase. If you drive your friend's car without permission it is considered a felony, so neither company will pay the claim.
Hope this info helped :0)

QUESTION:
auto insurance issues?
I was involved in an accident on dec 21 2010. My insurance company ran a quote in 2 days and said my truck should be repaired and not totaled. Its a 2010 silverado crew cab, has almost 17k in damages. Anyhow I had a verbal agreement with the mechanic over the telephone that they would have my truck repaired in 3 weeks. On january 6th I went to see the progress on my vehicle and it had not been touched. I was told they have parts on back order. I took a parts list and called other local shops and they all said they would have no issue getting parts. I called my insurance assesor to inform him that I was going to move my truck to a new mechanic. I was told I can not do that, I asked why and he neglected to give me a legit reason. Its now jan 28th 2011 and I still do not have my truck back yet. I told my insurance company I want them to reimburse my rental car fees from that date my truck should have been repaired. I spoke with my insurance assessors supervisor and he told me that the truck couldn't have been moved because I signed a contract and if I move it I can be sued. I never signed any contracts, I was told that they already paid the mechanic to do the repairs, I was told its out of there hands. I have geico as an insurance carrier. What can I do from here. My next step is to hire a lawyer to file a complaint with the NYS consumer service bureau. Any opinions. My whole gripe is that I was not allowed to move my truck to a more efficent shop. Id of been content if the shop the truck was at was getting it fixed in a timely manor.-

QUESTION:
Help- Any auto insurance agents around?
Hello, thanks for viewing.I recently got into a minor accident. A car rear ended my car, causing
minor paint scratches on the rear of my car bumper.I was stupid enough to only ask for the other person's driver's license and phone number, but I did write everything down listed within the driver's license. I didn't write down the person's insurance policy number, nor the person's license plate. He didn't write mine either, we just exchanged driver's license information.
Would my insurance company (mercury) be able to help me with this problem? Such as opening a claim, etc?
I received a few estimates from auto dealers saying that the cost would be around 0 because of the shocks on the bumpers and such.
Thank you so much
-
ANSWER:
Yes. Your insurance company should be able to assist you in contacting the other party and finding out if they have insurance coverage. Provide them with the info you got from the other person.
I often file claims for my insureds withen they have been in a not-at-fault accident.

QUESTION:
Auto Insurance Question: Please help!!!!!?
I asked this yesterday too, but did not get any responses; so if you have any information at all, or this has happened to you, please list an answer!I just recently lost my beautiful 1977 Monte Carlo to a fire! It was all original, and the adjuster found it to be worth between ,000 and ,000. Due to my ignorance of insurance, we were put into a stated value insurance policy worth ,000, and now, I am only getting ,000 for my car.
I feel ripped off. I am young, and don't know anything about insurance, but trusted my agent. The car has been in my family and was gifted to me from my dad a little less than one year ago. My agent asked for photos, and a letter from my parents with what they thought the worth of the car was, signed saying it was a gift. So, that's what we gave him. They stated in the letter they paid 00 for it 8 years ago. We were never told to get the car appraised, or that we had to keep up on checking to see if the value had gone up so we could change our policy.
Do any of you have any advice on how I can get the insurance company to give me all the money? Is there anything I can do at all?
Thank You so much!
-
ANSWER:
Your insurance will not give you any more money for it. Thats what your policy states. However, if you feel your insurance agent mislead you, you should go back to them to complain. It sounds like you feel its the agents fault so the agent would then be the person who owes you the difference. You agent should have their own insurance coverage to cover them for any mistakes they may have made (to cover them if someone sues them). You should attempt to make a claim through their insurance. That being said, keep in mind they may still deny your claim at that point you may want to sue them for it. However when you make your claim or sue them you will have the burden to prove they mislead you or made the mistake. It might be difficult to do considering your parents wrote a letter stating the value of it. You may try to argue that it said it was the value 8 years ago and that your agent should have known (seeing as how they often decide what coverage should be and any possible complications you may have) that it would have gone up or possibly down and should have told you to get an appraisal since it was 8 years old when it was worth that much. Although they may argue that you or your parents should have known as well. It will be tough so good luck.

QUESTION:
Can you please give me tips and things 2 consider when buying auto insurance?
Well i got diff. quotes from diff. companies. I have a 2007 car. I filled the online auto quote and there is a lot of stuff to chose from.
Can you list the" MUST HAVE " things.I'm a student so i'm looking at the cheapest i can get with more benefits.
This does not have anything with divorce...i Know that & thank you!! I figured that i would get lot of advice here. So pls chill!!!
-
ANSWER:
The must have is Uninsured Motorists coverage. If you need to get full coverage, take a 0.00 deductible. You might want emergency road service, its usually not very much to add on. That is the main thing you want, even if your just getting liability, you need the Uninsured Motorists!
Try Geico, they are usually the best, and cheapest, and very dependable service. Hope you get the best you can.

QUESTION:
Insurance for a bed and breakfast (school project)?
Hi,I'm in college and working on a project for a commercial recreation class. Our project is to conduct a feasibility study and create a business plan on a mock business. We're opening and operating a Bed and Breakfast in Illinois as our project.
But we've ran into a problem with getting estimates for insurance. I've found plenty of insurance companies that offer B&B insurance, but they issue quotes for actual businesses. It's not like they have a pricing list on their website. And I don't think they'd appreciate writing up an insurance quote for a fake college project!
I've got the types of insurance needed, but have no idea how much coverage is needed or what an insurance policy is likely to cost. The property is worth 0,000. Here's a list of what I have so far:
-Business Personal Property Coverage
-Business Income and Extra Expense Coverage
-Ordinance or Law Coverage
-Guest Inconvenience Coverage
-Guests' Property Insurance
-Personal Liability
-Replacement Cost Coverage
-Business Auto Insurance
-Worker’s Compensation Coverage
-Liability Insurance
-Building Insurance
-Loss of Income Insurance
-Business Property Insurance
-Equine Liability (we've got horses, yay!)
-Food Spoilage InsuranceHave I left any insurance coverages off the list? I have no idea what a policy like this would cost. Thanks for you help! I've enjoyed this project and it's been very interesting, but at the same time it's quite daunting!
-
ANSWER:
OK, see, you've got HUGE variables here. How much does it cost to rebuild the barn? The house? How much fence do you have? What's the construction material? Protection class? How old are your structures? Are they all fully sprinklered? How many horses? What are the gross receipts from the B&B? What are your payrolls for employees, and for how many employees?Lots more, but it's very, very detailed - including driving records for the person driving the business auto, what KIND it is, how far they go, what exactly they DO with it.
If I had to pick a number off the top of my head, a range, for insurance for this type of business, it would be anywhere from ,000 a year (small mom and pop run, no employees, two horses, 0,000 total property coverage, gross receipts under ,000 a year) to ,000.
Typically, B&B's run on a VERY thin pricing margin, and if you add liabiltiy for HORSES thrown in, you're probably not going to bring in enough in sales to cover your insurance costs.

QUESTION:
NJ Auto Insurance Question - Three Drivers - Three Different Cars - Two Policies.?
I live with my parents who each drive their own car and both cars and drivers are listed on my dad's policy. I financed a car and have my own insurance with a different company (a bit cheaper than theirs) and im looking to change my insurance company. One of my parents recently had their license suspended and when i called to another insurance company to get a quote they told me they couldn't write the policy because of the other driver's suspension. If the car is in my name and no one else drives it but me because they each have their own car and their own insurance, why wont the insurance company write the policy for me?-
ANSWER:
This happens because your parent is in your household and has ACCESS to your vehicle ((s)he does not need to have express permission to drive it because (s)he is a resident relative). Because this person is a resident relative, your company would have to by law cover him or her & also you (as the owner) in the event he used your car & had an accident.
Drivers CANNOT be excluded in NJ, don't listen to anyone that tells you this.

QUESTION:
Should I report my auto insurance that I'm married?
Here's the situation:
-My insurance company sent me an update request asking me and any new drivers in the household. I responded, truthfully, that there was none new.
-Eight days later, my fiancée moved in with me, and two days later we married.
-Insurer created a new policy for the coming year. I'm listed as the sole driver.A few days later, discussing my policy with a sales rep (they had overestimated my miles) I disclosed I got married recently and that my wife has been licensed in the US very recently, so I'm worried about the prime flying through the roof. The sales rep told me that I'm obliged to disclose any new drivers in the household when they ask me, so if the information was truthful and accurate when they asked me, for the moment I can fly "under the radar" until they send me a new update request. Thus, she did not update me to "married" status and did not add my wife to the policy.
The information I sent them when they asked me was accurate. However, I'm afraid that my wife might have a collision and that my insurer might claim there's been a fraud on my part and that any excuse over the informal advice a sales rep has given me will not fly.
Any opinions on how to proceed? I would appreciate the input of anyone who's worked in insurance.
EDIT: My insurance policy says that I should immediately report any new underage drivers in training. It does not say anything about immediately reporting a new licensed driver. New drivers are not listed under "occurrences" either. Hence my confusionEDIT 2: Actually, AAA bases their rate on the least experienced driver in the policy (my wife, in this case)
-
ANSWER:
Report her.
If you fail to disclose a fact that can materially alter your premium, this is "Material Misrepresentation". It can be used as grounds for denying claims and even voiding your policy back to the date the misrepresentation began.

Career as a Car Salesman vs Insurance Salesman?
I'm fresh out college and only jobs available are commission based from auto sales companies (IRA Toyota) and insurance agencies (New York Life, Northwest Mutual, Prudential). What are the pros and cons of each and which would you choose.Right now I'm leaning auto just because I'd rather deal with on-site customers than making cold calls to random individuals. Also I heard the insurance agencies like Northwest make you compile a list of friends and relatives than you have to call and harass. Love to get more info though. QUESTION:
Does our daughter have auto insurance coverage with her company A ?
Our daughter got married last April. She owned a vehicle and insured it under Company A.
She sold her vehicle 3 weeks ago and drives her husband vehicle. Her husband is insured with Jevco and the only coverage he has on his vehicle is very limited partial liability for a premium of monthly. My daughter wants to retain her policy with Company A and wants to transfer her husband's vehicle on her policy. She is willing to have the vehicle transferred in her name, insure with Company A and be listed as the principal driver with full liability coverage. However, Company told her to have Jevco send her husband's experience letter to them. They will review and then add the vehicle.
They have told her in the interim she is covered under their policy for full coverage.
To date Jevco has not given them the experience letter.
Company A has not deducted a premium from my daughter's account.
We are concerned that if our daughter has an accident while driving her husband's vehicle, Jevco will have to respond and since they do not have full liability coverage,
they could be in a serious financial situation and as parents we worry .....would company A pay any part of an accident claim ? This situation is for Ontario , Canada.
Our daughter keeps assuring us not to worry and that company A has told her that she has
full coverage with them in case of any accident. But we are not so sure.-
ANSWER:
First of all, daughter would have to call company A to ask if the policy is still in force. She CAN transfer husband's car to her policy, and add him as a driver, as the named insured almost always reads, the person named on the policy, and their spouse. That's different, though, than legally transferring the title of the car over to her name.
She's covered under her policy, BUT, there are restrictions and exclusions, and ONE of them, is "while driving a vehicle owned by you or a household member, when that vehicle is NOT scheduled on the policy".
Company A, will NOT pay any part of a claim for a household vehicle that is NOT listed as a vehicle, on their policy. Otherwise, people who own more than one car, would only EVER insure one car, because the policy would carry over to all the other vehicles - free insurance! Not.
She is misunderstanding or misinterpreting the coverage language that they are telling her. YES, her policy would respond to any accident when she's driving a vehicle not regularly available for her use, not owned by her or her spouse, or any household member. Unfortunately, this car is one of those vehicles.
Although I understand your concern, frankly, daughter is a grown woman, married and on her own. Yes, there can be a serious financial result of her inattention to her insurance. Her problem.

QUESTION:
do i have a case? (insurance fraud - auto)?
got into a car accident. the guy hit my driver side rear tire, cracked the base above the wheel and scraped up both driver side doors. roughly could have been at most 00. i have pics from the scene. body shop takes it on sept. 20. insurance company looks at it, claims 7000 in damages. took pics. i had the police at the scene to take statement. i made a recorded statement to insurance co. my story doesnt match damages claimed. insurance paid body shop 7 g's. they claim every time i call them that the car isnt ready b/c parts are on back order. nov 18th they say i can pick up the car at 7pm. at 7:19 i walked into body shop - in wide open space they are painting my whole car. no filter. they tell me to pick the car up tomorrow at 8pm (in the dark). next day, paint is chipping off my handle and gas tank. took it to a body shop for second opinion. was told a bunch of parts to my car have been filled with "mud" - some bonding. no parts were replaced. front and back bumper effed with. insurance co. said i have two options, either take it back to original shop and demand it fixed or sue them. they claim they already paid and have no more to do with the situation because it wasnt a body shop on their list. i was told it was. do i have a case? its clearly insurance fraud right? i mean why make a statement if they just disregard and proceed. no way was it 7000 worth. please someone who knows what they are talking about respond. thanks.-
ANSWER:
Because the insurance company already paid, you do not have any recourse there. For any lawsuit, you need to prove two things: damages and negligence. Damages should be easy, by showing the poor workmanship. However, in order to prove negligence, you are going to need an expert in body work to show they were intentionally cutting corners.
If you have the estimate indicating there were supposed to use new replacement parts, that will help also.

QUESTION:
Got into car accident - should I go to insurance co's "blue ribbon" auto body shop or find my own?
Hi - recently got into my first car accident. My insurance company gave me a list of "blue ribbon" places to go to and I have to call them first when I decide where to go - then they will call the shop and the shop will call me for an appt.I really don't want everything fixed - just what absolutely has to be fixed. I don't need the dents fixed - can't afford it anyway.
Am I allowed to find a place of my own? If I go to the insurance company's blue ribbon shop, will they insist on fixing everything and will I get ripped off? The accident was my fault so I assume the insurance company wouldn't want a high estimate?
-
ANSWER:
I would choose from their list. You can't find a better one than the one they recommend. Talk to your local insurance agent and see which one he or she like's the most.

QUESTION:
Life insurance question - term life and term life with return of premium?
Hello, my spouse and I are in the market for life insurance now. After some researching, we have pretty much decided to go with term or term return of premium insurance. I still have following to decide and if you could enlighten me on these I would appreciate it very much.Which company?
I found the following list that's supposed to be the best life insurance companies at this website.
http://www.lifeinsurancestar.com/lifeinsurance/company-ratings.php
* New York Life: A++, stable outlook
* Mass Mutual: A++, stable outlook
* State Farm: A++, stable outlook
* Geico: A++, stable outlookDoes this mean I should probably check out these companies? We have State Farm for auto and home insurance. Would State Farm be a good way to go (convenient to have all three in one place)? I also thought Geico didn't offer life insurance. I was led to LifeQuotes page from Geico. Does this mean that this list is not reliable?
How much?
We are 40-45 years old, just We still have almost 30 years of mortgage, and 20 years of raising our son. I was using some calculator online (Kiplinger, Life Foundation?) to calculate how much coverage I need, and they both returned figures like 1+ million. How can this be? Is 1 million life insurance common these days?
We have about 170,000 in remaining mortgage balance (actually I only included half of that in calculation), and I calculated monthly living expense to be 2,000-3,000 (depending on if our child is still with us)/month with my spouse's income to be 2,000/month, and also included college cost. Does this seem reasonable that this will add up to be million dollars in 30 years, with inflation? I was thinking of about 300,000-400,000 before using these calculators.
Term or Term ROP?
We have almost decided against Term ROP and to go with straight term, but are not final on this decision. What do you all think about ROP? With ROP, do we typically actually receive ALL of the premium, or are there any fees etc. subtracted from the refunded amount? Also, does ROP term insurance give you investment returns in addition to the amount of premium you paid? One of the reasons that we are leaning towards straight term is that with our current age, with 20-30 year policies, the likelihood we’ll actually be using the “death benefit” would be moderately high – then ROP won’t be such a good deal, as well as hearing that if we just get term and invest the difference in the premium, we’d be ahead of term ROP.
How long?
In this case, should we try to get a 20 year term (for while our son will be with us), or 30 year term, just to cover the full length of the mortgage, although I wouldn’t need that much coverage towards the end of 30 years (our son will be with us for only 20 more years, our mortgage will be paid off except for last 10 years or so)? Or buy 25 year return of premium term policy and pay 5 more years of mortgage using the money we receive from return of premium? Or buy two term policies - a large amount of 20 year policy plus a smaller amount (to cover the remaining mortgage balance in the last 10 years of mortgage)?
Thank you for your help!
Also, would we be able to buy term insurance online from these companies, and have guaranteed conversion and renewal (are these the two things I need?) (when purchased online)? - without going in to the agent's office or having an agent come to the office? One visit for health assessment is fine. We just can't have that many appointments while comparison shopping. Thanks!
InsurancePickle.com, are you referring to State Farm or Geico when you say not to buy life insurance from a auto insurance company? Could you (or someone else) tell me what would be the disadvantage if I did? Thank you!
To all respondents: Please give me guidance on how to find an insurance agent (not tied to a specific insurance company). Would an online agent like Lifequotes.com, where I can talk to a live person if I'd like by calling an 800 number, be OK?-
ANSWER:
You can locate an independent agent by typing in your zip code at the agent locator tab, at www.iiaba.net, to answer your last question first. Sorry, I'm hitting them in opposite order! Online life insurance agents are going to deal with many areas of the country, and probably won't be as familiar with LOCAL options, as a LOCAL agent. Plus, you might get shuffled around the call center, to get to an agent licensed in YOUR state.I'm not Pickle, but I can tell you State Farm has some of the HIGHEST life insurance rates around. They JUST aren't very competitive.
A million dollars is reasonable.
Regarding those four companies that popped up at the top of the list, sure, check them out - but all it means, is that they PAID to be shown at the top of the list. That's pretty much what you're going to run into, with online rate comparison sites - you'll be steered towards the company that pays the webmaster best.
When you buy insurance online, you can usually do the entire transaction by mail, except for the paramedical exam. And you won't get that, until you've PICKED an insurance company, submitted an application, along with a deposit amount. THEN they'll "verify" your rate for you.
I'm not a fan of ROP term, and I think I explained that in a prior question, in detail.
Look, if you want an "online" experience, I had a pretty good one, at Zander Insurance, and they're licensed in all 50 states. But you've got enough questions and concerns, that honestly, wouldn't you like to be able to develop a relationship with ONE agent that has an office near you, where you can drop by if you have questions or problems? Additionally, with young children involved, maybe it might be worth it to spring for a fee based financial planner, instead, who ISN'T going to try to sell you anything, and will give you TRULY unbiased advice.

QUESTION:
Question about changing Auto Insurance?
I am able to purchase auto insurance through Statefarm which is going to cost be about less per month than my current Allstate policy. I would like to purchase the policy today online, and I have a couple questions. Do I have to pay my next Allstate policy payment? Insurance is paid ahead of time, so I don't see why I would. The "coverage start date" listed on the Statefarm website is today, 11/06. Is this true? Does the company mail me my policy in writing?-

QUESTION:
Career Car Salesman vs Insurance Salesman?
I'm fresh out college and only jobs available are commission based from auto sales companies (IRA Toyota) and insurance agencies (New York Life, Northwest Mutual, Prudential). What are the pros and cons of each and which would you choose.Right now I'm leaning auto just because I'd rather deal with on-site customers than making cold calls to random individuals. Also I heard the insurance agencies like Northwest make you compile a list of friends and relatives than you have to call and harass. Love to get more info though. Thanks in advance to whoever replies

ANSWER:
Neither of your choices are enticing to me. How many car salesmen or insurance salesmen have years of employment with the same company. Each is a career many young people choose until they find it really doesn't have a good future. I'd get into Real Estate for a more permanent and stable career.

QUESTION:
I am sued for an auto accident that involved a car I previously owned and was sold.?
I am being sued by an Insurance Company for an auto accident. It involved the car that I previously owned. The car was sold to a dealer about a month before the accident. Which party should I contact?
Should I contact the Plantiff's attorney?
Who should I prove my innocence to?
Should I contact LA County Dispute Resolution Programs Act (DRPA) Contractors that are listed on the back of the Summons? Thanks.

ANSWER:
If you have been served with papers, I believe you have to answer the complaint in a timely manner. Failing to do so would end up in you losing by default. My recommendation would be to contact an attorney. As soon as you or your attorney file your answer, and I would include exhibits showing the title was transferred prior to the date of the accident, I would think they would drop the suit. But remember as long as they don't drop the suit, you HAVE to answer it if you have been served.

QUESTION:
Does the state of Florida offer auto repair insurance?
We have a 2003 Saturn Vue that needs nothing short of a 4,000 dollar transmission job. We're nervous about investing that much more into the car but would feel a lot better about it if we could find this "repair insurance" I've been hearing about. I guess you pay a flat fee every month and your vehicle repairs are taken care of depending on your degree of coverage. Does anyone know of a list of which states that offer this miracle? Or how to find these companies? Do they even exist or was this all just a dream?

ANSWER:
No, there's no such thing as repair insurance. You MIGHT be talking about an "extended warranty", which you can get pretty easily - but it has a whole bunch of exclusions, and a deductible.Any Saturn dealer can talk to you about an after market extended warranty.

QUESTION:
money from insurance?
I got in a car accident a few weeks ago, got a couple estimates and the insurance company is writing a check for the repairs that will be done on the car. The thing is that the lowest estimate I got had a few things missing from the list of repairs needed to be made. I had gotten another estimate with everything that was needed to be repaired listed but the insurance company refused to go by the estimate.( I have full coverage by the way) so I told them that if I was going to have my car fixed I wanted everything fixed properly and they said that if I wanted to do it that way they could have sent someone out to come look at it and do an estimate but the week of the accident that's what they were suppose to do any no one every came out to look at the car... this is why I had to go get estimates myself and now they are saying they will just write me a check for the least amount possible. I have a friend who is a certified mechanic/auto body man and he's retired but knows everything about cars. I would rather him fix my car then take it to a shop because I don't wanna wait another few weeks for my car to get fixed. My friend says he can do it within a week because shops keep the car longer for added hours of labor charges etc. My question is if the money does not cover all the repairs on the car will the insurance company still pay for the rest of the repairs such as paying the shops ssupplements-
ANSWER:
Have your body guy send in a supplemental request to the insurance company. Call the claims department and get the number for the auto department's supplemental fax number. An auto tech will review the supplement and contact the shop to discuss it. If necessary, the insurance company will send an adjuster to the shop to see the car and determine the necessity for additional payments.
