Teen Car Insurance

Cheap Car Insurance

In the past, well-known car insurance companies created an imaginary bracket called the "high-risk group," and they included teen drivers resulting to high cost to their car insurance premiums. And their main basis for that was based on statistical evidences. But recently, people have realized that it is not just for many people.

Because of it, many companies had gathered to discus 00004000 s things in order to help teenage drivers feel that they are not being cheated. And to compensate with everything the car insurance companies had done, they offered cheap deals and discounts under specific guidelines that must be uphold; guidelines that will make teenage drivers less risky to the car insurance companies. But the main goal of this is to help provide cheap car insurance to inexperienced teen drivers.

For teenagers, driving a car is a big step to adulthood. And this new practice is not unusual anymore; this has been accepted by most of the parents. They believe that this will help their child to be developed and learn to be responsible. For instance, you urge your teen driver to find a suitable job in order for him to pay his part on the car insurance premium. That way, they will sure realize how important money is and they will also know the value of saving.

Also, car insurance companies will give you an affordable quote if you will send your teenage driver to a driving school. Although it is good if parents would train them, but it is wiser to enroll them to a driving school to have a certificate. In addition, it is a good venue to have them trained with professional driving instructors since they know the things that your teen driver lacks. Aside from that, they will be taught on some techniques in driving. Most of all, you will sure get a discount on car insurance.

Lastly, you can motivate your teen to get good grades in school in order to have a cheaper insurance. Note that if your teen has a good grade in school, there is a good chance that car insurance companies will lower the insurance rates. The rationale behind this is that the car insurance believes that a responsible student in school is also a responsible driver in the road.

Where can I find cheap teen car insurance in Cincinnati, OH?
Few people in my family actually drive with a license let alone insurance(not including my mother) she doesn't even drive. I'm only 17, how can I and where can I get CHEAP car insurance from?

    • ANSWER:
Call many different insurance agencies and get quotes. You'll have to answer questions about your age and the specifics of your vehicle, but getting the quote is free and painless. Go with whichever one gives you the best (cheapest) offer.

I would try a local State Farm. That's who I went through when I first got my license at 18 (I also live in Cincinnati), and I was pleasantly surprised at how much cheaper it was than all the others. I am also a male, was driving a red sports car at that time, and did not go through a driver's education course. Generally speaking, those are three big factors for young drivers, but they didn't seem to matter with them. Good luck!

    teen car insurance?
hi how much did your car insurance go up by when you added your teen? and also, do you think parents should pay for some of it or which parts parents should pay for (the car, insurance, drivers training) i asked my dad if he would pay for any of it and he said no. so i said i was going to get a job to pay for it myself but then he said he wouldn't let me get one if i was going to use it for anything car related. i need to drive to get to the poverty house for volunteering, also for the leadership program at school and to drive home from practice and my parents don't have time (or want) to drive me.

    • ANSWER:
So he does'nt want to pay for your insurance... and does'nt want you to have a job - if - it's to pay for car insurance...

...Sounds to me like he does'nt want you driving...

Do you have a car - and your license yet ? or would it be your dads you would be driving because if its your dads perhaps he needs it and thats why he doesnt want you to drive it ?

If this is the case get a job and pay for your car and insurance...

  17. QUESTION:
In New Jersey do I have to add my just licensed teen to my car insurance if they are not driving often?
I am in the process of changing my insurance details to make it more affordable and it's not finalized yet. I asked a customer service rep at my insurer's office if I didn't get the changes made yet can my teen still drive my vehicle until it's finalized and she told me that as long as I've giving them permission to drive the vehicle and they don't just "take" it then it's like giving permission to any family member to drive your vehicle and they are covered? Is this true?

    • ANSWER:
      Yup.

  18. QUESTION:
    question about teen car insurance?
im about to be 16 and im currently taking drivers ed. i dont want to get my license until im about 18. i know that driver ed can lower ur insurance, so if i take drivers ed now and buy insurance when im 18, would the driver ed from 2 years ago help lower it?
i dont wanna get it because my parents insurance would go up a lot. and insurance is required to get a license.

    • ANSWER:
In most states, drivers ed counts until you are about 23. So, yes, it will lower your rates. Some states don't require you have it to get your license at 18. My state requires it to be licensed at 16 but not if you wait until 18. So, the best thing for you to do is to get a driver training certificate, which you should be able to get from your instructor & save it for when you do get your license & insurance.
You will still probably be subject to an inexperienced operator charge, most companies in most states charge this no matter when you get your license (even if you are in your 30s!).

  22. QUESTION:
How much is a female teen's car insurance in Virginia?
I'm trying to get one for my daughter and I was wondering if anyone can give me any heads ups.

    • ANSWER:
There is really no way to answer this without knowing specifics such as the vehicle year/make/model, what coverages you have, her GPA, and if your particular insurance company gives discounts for good grades, driver's education, TeenSmart (check out Adept Driver's program), etc. There are too many variable, but in general look for a 0-1200 yearly increase depending on your particular insurance provider.
Also, unless she's over 18, most insurance companies won't allow her to have her own policy because she must legally be an adult to enter into a contract. She would have to be added to whichever parent she resides with (or shares use of a vehicle)/

  23. QUESTION:
Teen Car Insurance after one accident?
How much would my insurance premium rise for a 17 year old boy if I get into an accident (at-fault)?
A good average (+X%) answer would be good.

    • ANSWER:
There is really no fixed $$ amount or %, so anyone in here giving you an estimate is really doing you a disservice. Auto insurance is made up of so many variables that anyone here guessing on your increase is doing exactly that: guessing. They really have no idea.

I work for an insurance company and I don't even give guesses or estimates to my own customers when they ask how an accident may affect their rate -- and that's when I can see all of their information right in front of me.

One thing I can tell you, and others who respond can agree, is that it won't be pretty. The rates for anyone under 21 are already very costly, so add an accident into the 17yo mix and you've got two big factors going against you. If you got a ticket in conjunction with the accident it may not matter -- many insurance companies surcharge (ie. charge more) for the accident OR the ticket if they're both related to the same incident on the same day. Violations are given point values, so speeding which results in an accident could cause you to be surcharged for the accident and not the speeding ticket, while drunk driving and getting into an accident will most likely cause the surcharge to be associated with the drunk driving rather than the accident (an accident is worse than speeding but is not as bad as drunk driving).

Other factors which greatly impact the rate and how an accident surcharge might affect you include: type of car you drive (expensive to insure vs inexpensive), the coverage you carry (a more valuable car with full damage coverage will amplify the surcharge), or the zip code you live in. Other factors include whether you've got your own policy or are on your parents' insurance (hopefully you're on your parents' insurance -- it's almost always cheaper!), if there are multiple cars on the policy (multi-car discount), and if you qualify for GSD (having 3.0 or above REALLY helps your rates).

All of this said, your question is still not answered. One thing you really should take note of is whether or not an accident report was filed with the state. In my state (WA), accidents over 0 should be reported to the state by filling out an accident report. If a police officer responds to an accident and the damage looks to be in excess of this they will probably file the report themselves. If the police did NOT show up and you and the person you hit don't file the report with the state then the only ones who know about the accident are the people involved and the insurance companies. In this case, filing the claim will attach the accident surcharge to your record and your rates will go up at the next renewal. On the other hand, if the damage was minor, no police showed up, and you handled it out of pocket, the insurance companies may never know about this accident and you might never see a surcharge.

On the flipside, if the police DID show up and filled out an accident report or issued you a ticket then it's probably in your best interest to let the insurance company handle it. If an accident report was filed or a ticket was issued then it won't do you any good to pay out of pocket since it'll still be on your insurance and your rates will still go up (why let them raise your rates but not allow them to pay out on damage you caused?).

I hope this information was helpful to you.

    male teen car insurance?
im turning 17 in february, living in new jersey...im trying to get a bmw 330ci which my parents said i could get unless the insurance goes up reason being that it is a 2 door...most 2 doors r considered sports cars i think but is a bmw 3 series coupe really considered one, i mean its not like its an m3 and its going to be automatic obviously but would the insurance go up for that car?

    • ANSWER:
Let me say you will be paying "out the butt" for insurance. First you are a young male teen, that right there gives you high rates. You are a new driver, driving a new luxury sportscar. That is a red flag right there!

I'm 20 years old and I drive what is considered a sportscar and my rates are outrageous. I don't have any tickets or accidents, and my insurance is still high.

Your insurance will be high no matter what. It won't go down until you are 25. I'm just telling you from experience.

and i live in washington if thats any help

    • ANSWER:
Your answer is in the (long) text below. Read it and see how this all works.

Insurance companies want to know about all licensed household members (it does not matter if they are young or old) so they can calculate their potential risks for having you and these drivers covered by your insurance policy. When you purchase liability insurance (which every auto insurance policy has), there is a law that requires insurance companies to cover all household members who have a drivers license. Most all insurance companies will require that you either add licensed household members to the policy or exclude them. This is because as household members it is assumed they have access to your vehicles and may drive them at any time. These drivers are thus a risk/rating factor to be taken into consideration.
Many state laws require it, and your policy contract has in it terms that say you must inform them of licensed drivers dwelling in your household, so that they can add him as a driver to your policy and rate accordingly or exclude him. Excluding anyone from your car insurance would mean that you are not paying extra on your policy to have him/her as a driver and thus they are not extended any coverage by your insurance policy if they were to drive your car and be in an accident, even if it were an emergency situation.
So most insurance companies will require you to place the non-relative household member on your insurance policy as a driver if he is licensed. All licensed household members are normally required to be listed as a driver or excluded on an auto insurance policy by the insurance provider.
If you have a licensed household member, whether a relative, roommate, etc, the insurer believes that the person will have access to your vehicle and thus is a rating factor that should be on your insurance policy. If the person really is not going to drive the insured vehicle then there should not be an issue with excluding them. Without you signing off on the exclusion the insurance company cannot really believe that a licensed household member may not drive your car.
State laws differ however. Typically, insurance companies are allowed to use classifications that reflect a possible exposure for liability on the part of the insurer, in the event that bodily injury or property damage occurs due to the operation of the vehicle by anyone in your household.
The perceived risk for non-household members by an insurance company is different and that is why you can normally let a friend that does not live with you borrow your vehicle without adding him or her to your policy.
A friend may occasionally borrow your car and be covered by your insurance because they do not have regular access to your car and thus are not rated as a risk factor on your policy. If you do have someone outside of the household that regularly drives your car then normally an insurance carrier usually would also want this person listed an occasional driver so they would be properly covered in an accident.

  31. QUESTION:
What things can a teen do to help lower the cost of car insurance?
I'm sixteen and seventh months, and plan on getting my license in about two months. But money is a little tight now at my house, and when my brother got his license on his sixteenth birthday (two years ago) the car insurance my parents pay for jumped an extra 1200 dollars a year.

Teen Car Insurance Question. Desperate for answers?
Hi I am 17 and I am testing out quotes for insurance... my question is that... is it legally required for me to add collision coverage? comprehensive coverage? uninsured motorist bodily injury? Uninsured Motorist Property Damage? ..

WHAT IS LEGALLY REQUIRED and what do I really not need to worry about? I am a girl therefore I am a safe driver hahaha... ANY ANSWERS WILL HELP.... THANKS!!!!

    • ANSWER:
Unless your vehicle is financed and the finance company requires full coverage, all you legally need is the minimum for your state, which you didn't mention. However often times just getting minimum coverage is false economy, and just a very few dollars more will get you much better coverage. Sit down with your agent and discuss your coverage until you fully understand what you are getting, and why.

  38. QUESTION:
Teen Car Insurance + Accidents Clarification?
I'm a 16 year old girl who just got her license in March. A week after I got my license, I rear ended another car while driving my mom's new car that is insured. We got it fixed and only had to pay the 500 dollar deductible. I do not have my own car. My sister, who is 19, has her own car that is not covered on our insurance. My dad's car is not covered either. My sister just got into an accident, rear ending someone as well.

I really need to get a car next year for work and such but my parents said my insurance would be high enough already with both of me and my sister's accidents. Couldn't I just buy a car on my own and not insure it like my dad and sister's cars? I really don't know how car insurance works at all, i only know what my parents tell me, so any help would be appreciated :)
Oh, and if it matters, I went to traffic school after my accident to remove the points against my driving record (I think that's what it did)
My sister had already gone to traffic school recently for a speeding ticket so she can't go again for her accident.

    • ANSWER:
Each and every car on the road MUST be insured. It is illegal to drive a car that is not insured. I don't believe that you understand insurance. Please go to see an agent and have hium explain auto. insurance so you understand it so you don't end up paying off a lawsuit for the rest of your life. also, read this about households and insurance:

There is a LAW that insurance companies to cover all household members who have a drivers license,

But… Most all insurance companies will require that you call and notify them to either allow a licensed household members to be added to the policy or exclude them. This is because as household members it is assumed they have access to your vehicles and may drive them at any time. These drivers are thus a risk/rating factor to be taken into consideration. Don’t think you can get by and not notify them of household drivers because If they are not notified, they can and do and will cancel the policy.
Many state laws require that you must inform them of licensed drivers dwelling in your household, so that they can add him as a driver to your policy and rate accordingly or exclude him. Excluding anyone from your car insurance would mean that you are not paying extra on your policy to have him/her as a driver and thus they are not extended any coverage by your insurance policy if they were to drive your car and be in an accident, even if it were an emergency situation.
If you do have someone outside of the household that regularly drives your car then normally an insurance carrier usually would also want this person listed as a driver so they would be properly covered in an accident.

    I just turned 16,
and my mom bought me a new 2008 land rover LR3,
we have state farm insurance i think.

    but thats besides the point.
Anyone have a generic estimate of what the monthly insurance costs is? for a guy.

Its obviously a well protected car,
so the insurance wont be like a sports car.

    Just in a broad estimate.
Because i know that there are different rates.

The car was only like 55 grand i believe,
because i had all the extra mods put in.
i just have to say to the 1st commenter that yes i was raised into a family with a decent amount of money. no im not spoiled. not im not rude. this is literally the nicest thing ive ever gotten. im not a kid that brags about all the stuff i have and i try to be as nice and positive to my peers as possible.

im just asking this question, because i am greatful for what i got, and i would like to help pay my parents for the insurance. i am aware its a lot, im just asking a very broad estimate.

this addition is for all the future commenter's that think this is a joke, or im a spoiled kid who doesn't care about anyone else.

by the way i live in houston, texas if that gives anyone a more detailed sense of where the price range should be.

    • ANSWER:
We just went through that with my daughter. According to my insurance agent, the rule of thumb, for South Texas anyway, is 0 - 0 per month to add a youthful driver to a family policy.

In our case, she had Driver's training, academic discounts, her mom and I have excellent driving records and she took a seminar they suggested. We ended up not paying anywhere near that. So, it's going to vary, but check with your agent for discounts.

  43. QUESTION:
Selfish Parents or Unreasonable Teen? (car insurance catastrophe)?
When I turned 18 my parents bought me a car so I could get to work and such as a birthday present. They put it under their names and I kept under their insurance, but pay them monthly. I normally maintain the car myself, and hold all responsibilities. On Jan 3 I got rearended by a drunk driver. Physically I was alright, but my cars back is busted and a huge eye soar. I got on top of the insurance agency and brought my car to a shop for an estimate. My parents seemed releaved that they werent dealing with the situation themselves. Today the apraiser came to apraise the car. All of the sudden my mother took a very strong interest to what was going on. The guy gave me an estimate of 4g, which is higher then the 2g estimate the car shop gave me for repairs. I go to take my car in to the shop + my mom informs me they are keeping the check and that I will not be getting my car fixed. I dont want the extra $, i just want my car fixed. Do I have a right to be mad, and what do I do??

    • ANSWER:
you do have a right to be upset about that. your parents are definitly being selfish here. it honestly sounds like they just want the money. it would be more understandable if the accident was your fault, but clearly wasnt. try talking to them and tell them how you feel.

  46. QUESTION:
In dire need of help for teen car insurance?
Hi guys, I'm an 18 year old male living in SE1 (SE London) and I'm trying to get insured on a 1.4 VW Polo. I hear these are quite cheap to insure, but I am getting quotes from every insurance company I try which are FAR from cheap.

They are usually around £3000!!!! I have tried adding my mum to the policy, keeping the car in garage, low annual millage, high excess, and no business miles, but im still only getting quotes for stupid money (£3000). I must have my own policy, as I need the car to be in my name so i can get the 90% discount for congestion charge (grrrr....) as I live RIGHT inside it!

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!
Sorry, forgot to mention that I just passed my test on the 15th July, haha!

    • ANSWER:
see the UK links here http://finance.ebookorama.com/ukusa-selected-resources.php
make sure you aren't getting Comprehensive but third party only, not even fire and theft and you should be ok.
Another way out of the congestion charge is to get an LPG system or a car that has it fitted.
You'll soon realize that the bigger savings come from paying less than half for your running costs, forget the congestion charge that's a bonus.
Also, not many people are clued up to it so 2nd hand cars with LPG can still be had for cheap.

  47. QUESTION:
Which car insurance companies are cheapest for teen girls?
I am a girl going on 17 years old and I finally just got my license. Now my dad and I are looking for the cheapest plan in the cheapest insurance company to go on for my car insurance. Help?

    • ANSWER:
It really depends on what state you live in but it is best for you to get your ins. policy under your dad's (with him and his car). If you have a g.p.a. of 3.0 or more you can get the good student discount, 3 years or more driving experience with good record you get the good driver discount, you can get the multi-car discount with your dad and his car. In CA with Farmer's insurance if your dad has a good driving record then you can get a discount for having a good driver to look up to as a good influence. Best of luck and congrats!

  48. QUESTION:
    Teen car insurance??
Im a 16 year old male looking for insurance. My gpa is 3.2 and play 2 sports. I was wondering how much it would run me to have insurance in California for a 67 mustang coupe?? And in comparison to a 2002 audi a4?

    • ANSWER:
Since you're 16, you can't enter into a financial agreement, which is what insurance is. You will have to be added as an additional driver on your parent's policy. Since none of us know what company your parents use, we can't predict what the increase will be. Have mom or dad call the agent, he will tell you exactly what the cost will be, and you will know. A mustang will be high, it's considered a sports car.

  50. QUESTION:
    Teen Car Insurance.?
I am 17, and about 5 days ago I finally got my license. So now my parents are trying to look for insurance. I have to pay it, soo seeing as I only get paid minimum wage, does anyone know the cheapest "deal" for insurance when it comes to teenagers?? What I mean is like what company etc.

    • ANSWER:
If your parents will allow you to be on their policy as a driver, that will be the cheapest, unless they have tickets or accidents. It's rated by how many driver's per household, if there are two vehicles and three driver's you want to be on the vehicle with the least value, unless only a liability policy. This is a risk for your parents because if you get a ticket or accident they will rate up the policy for all vehicles.

If they do not want you on there policy and you need a policy of your own you need to shop around, the rates can be very dramatic from company to company. When I was looking for my teenage son, I was shocked at the difference in rates. I had been with a company I worked for and they were the worst for teenage drivers, so I found another company AIG. I'm not saying they're the best but much better than what I had been quoted from other companies.

      Good Luck To You
