Kidnap for Ransom cases are not like what you see on TV
Most Kidnap for Ransom cases abroad do not have demands in the 6 to 8 figure arena in real life. In fact according to CAAC-MRPO's kidnap statistics in 2005 the average amount paid for reported Kidnap for Ransom cases paid only ,071.83 USD. Usually the unreported cases of Kidnap abroad are rumored to pay as little as few as a few thousand pesos or a few hundred USD.

More often Kids are Traveling Overseas and out of the Country and are subject to Kidnap
School groups, church groups and out vacationing children are more apt to leave the country to learn about other cultures. Many school trips, benevolent religious groups and organizations are taking students abroad to learn about assist other cultures. Many groups, parents and even the ones traveling are not aware of the many risks and dangers of potential kidnap in countries outside of ours. Many are untrained as to what to do in kidnap situations or the statistical likelihood of their abduction.

48% of Kidnap for Ransom Incidents occur in Latin America & 80% of Kidnap for Ransom Cases go Unreported
According to Insurance Carrier AIG's Crisis Management Division in Philadelphia, "there are over 20,000 reported kidnap for Ransom incidents annually, with 48 percent of them occurring in Latin America."

Additionally, the term "reported" is deceiving due largely to the fact that statistically speaking, less than 20% of kidnap cases go reported and that actual numbers estimated by experts indicate that the actual kidnap numbers range between 5 to 6 times the reported number of kidnap cases. This is largely due to distrust or participation to local law enforcement participation. Based on this secondary statistic, that places the annual incidence of Kidnap for Ransom closer to 100,000 cases per year.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Why do auto insurance companies base there premiums on your credit rating and not your ability to drive...?
if you have bad credit, they charge top rates you can be an accident ticket free driver for 25 years and youll still get a crappy rate. on the other hand if you have great credit but youve crashed vehicles got multiple speeding tickets your going to get a better rate. shouldnt it be based on your ability to drive and not your ability to pay bills? i base this on rates given by State Farm in Florida, im a car salesman and check muiltiple peoples credit and Insurance.

    • ANSWER:
Pissed me off too, I got so angry when Insurance companies started this but as the years have passed I now see why.

Seems that your credit report is a good indicator of how well you pay your bills and how responsible you are thus the insurance companies can get a pretty good Idea about the type of risk you will be and if the insurance company will get paid or not, someone with good credit is given the benefit of the doubt they will pay on time and keep there policy in good standing, which to the insurance company is money in the bank that helps them forecast profit and loss much more accurately (so I'm told, and from what I've seen now believe).

I might add that CR reports are only one of the many tools the insurance companies use to set rates.

It's all an actuaries game really. Good luck.

    • ANSWER:
Sure you need an address, but most don't care if you're working out of your house or not.

You sound like you need to write a business plan (try www.sba.gov and www.score.org as starting resources). There are other companies that already do this (not the least of which is Progressive that sells a different contracts online than through the brokerage system), so the section about competition and marketing will be critical. You should also either be realistic about the cost of the site creation, data management, CRM, and so on, or you need to have the skills to program and maintain the whole thing yourself.

If there are package deals where you can just subscribe to a quoting system and pick a template to wrap around it with your company name, this is a clear indication that the bones of the business are not unique. If that's the case, can you do your own SEO, why would a shopper choose you instead of someone else? what's your unique selling proposition? how are you allocating your advertising budget?

I'm not saying it can't be done, in fact you could be raking money in before too long, but a detailed and researched business plan is your opportunity to work out the wrinkles. Failing miserably because you couldn't track the conversion ratio of each marketing campaign would suck.

  4. QUESTION:
whats a more economical first vehicle: car or bike?
im looking to getting my first car soon. what would be better to buy - a car or a bike? im sure bikes get really good mileage and replacement parts (ie tires, rims) are much cheaper to replace than a car, and i have a lot of experience riding both a mountain bikes (i race) and dirtbikes, so i know how to handle a bike well.

if i buy a car, it will most likely be an older muscle car, like a mustang, camaro, or the like, with a v8. im sure that can get expensive with gas but i wont be driving that often. since its older, i'll pay slightly less for insurance.

i think bikes have an extra premium to pay for insurance on top of regular auto insurance, so my question is, do the benefits of better gas mileage and cheaper maintenance offset the cost for the increased insurance rates?

btw, if there is bad weather, i can always borrow my moms car. i would be willing to ride a bike in [light] rain anyway, once i get used to the handleing.
im talking about a motorcycle people!

im trying to keep my purchase to under 00.
maybe 00, depending on how much money i have. i may sell my race bike at the end of the season. (about 00)

    • ANSWER:
a bike? hello, they don't use gas or mileage! or do you mean those motor bike thingys?? idk, but i would use they normal "no gasoline" bikes if i were you, unless your going on long trips. anyway, you should get a hybrid, or a minivan, believe it or not they don't use as much gasoline as a convertible!!!!

  5. QUESTION:
    Auto Insurance Comprehensible Claim?
I recently washed my car and noticed 2 dents in the side of it, top part of my fender and the other is in on the rear passenger door. If I file a comprehensible claim with my insurance provider ( Direct ) will they raise my rates?

    • ANSWER:
I believe they do go up a little, and it might not be worth it for you if you have a deductable. If the cost to fix the dents is 500 and you have a 500 or 1000 dollar deductable your going to pay for the entire thing anyways. If it costs you 700 to fix and you have a 500 deductable, sure it will save you the 200 bucks but after your rates increase it wont be worth it.

There are places that you can get dents removed from a car without having to paint or replace the body part. That might be a cheaper option for you.

  6. QUESTION:
    auto insurance fraud?
i just changed auto insurance. my prev. insurance premium has gone up so high i can't afford it anymore so i changed companies. i just signed up with this co. who offered lower monthly rates. i agreed to the quotes, gave my credit card to them (they slid it on the credit card reader (this is for my first payment), then the guy made another copy of my card -this time under a machine -like the older models that they pass a metal on top so the card would make a carbon copy on a sheet of paper-this he said is for next months payment). after which i signed a piece of paper and they gave me a temporary id card (printed on a sheet of copy paper) . its been a week since that happened and they have not sent me the actual policy. how do i know they really covered my insurance or is this a scam? i got them form the internet, and i went to bbb site where theres no bad writeup for their co. seems legit, but why are they taking too long to send the policy??

    • ANSWER:
Contact them and ask. No way anyone here would know, especially since you asked without giving your location or the name of the company you went with.

Honda CBR125R Insurance rates or recommended agencies? 16 Year old male Ontario?
I have an 80% average in school and my parents have auto and home insurance with statefarm. Only 125cc 130km/h tops. first vehicle. Thanks

    • ANSWER:
My daughter looked at them when they first came out and her insurance company said 00 in Ontario the agent said that they have to have a history on the bike before lowering the rates because these bikes are new to Canada and they have the CBR tag.

  8. QUESTION:
What to do if you are suspected of Insurance Fraud?
I have been a member of a very "wonderful" insurance company for almost 8 years. I have never had a problem with the pay out of a claim, and they are one of the top rated insurers in the US for customer service. About six months ago my wife had lost her engagement ring at work and I filed the claim. They were waiting on us to find a receipt which I couldn't find, because it was bought 4 years prior, but they paid out, no problem. Then at the beginning of November, my camera received some condensation damage. I contacted my insurance company to ask about the process, but I didn't want to put a claim in until I knew how much the damage was going to be. The adjuster said that I HAD to open a claim up, so I did. The damage ended up being only 5, and I had already paid over 0 out of pocket towards that, so I was going to close out the claim. I could not get in touch with the adjuster during this time. The problem was that the camera would not auto focus, and needed a new part. Well while I was waiting on the part, I had the camera picked up for thanks giving weekend, since it was working fine in manual. During that weekend, my vehicle was broken into and the camera, amongst other stuff was removed.

The auto adjuster covered everything else, but said because the value of the camera and because it and the lens were listed on a separate policy, that it was best to put in another claim on it and close out the repair claim. I still could not get in touch with the primary adjuster, and another adjuster paid out the full replacement of the camera and lens, only to be rescinded by the original adjuster. Who said that I should never have gotten the full amount, because the camera was damaged. I understood that, but now its almost the end of January, and the camera still hasn't been paid out(flag1). I have had to speak to a PI/Insurance investigator(flag2) waiting for paperwork that requires me to submit tax returns(flag3) to make a "settlement," not to pay out the insured, or the replacement value on the items.

The flags lead me to believe that I am being investigated/suspected of fraud for a legitimate claim. What I don't understand, was for the damage, I was having no problem, and for the break in, i had no problem with the auto division. There was a police report to report loss, and proof of ownership. So why am I being brought through the wringer, and what can I do? I have never had to show tax returns to make a claim on a policy. I believe they are trying to say that I am a "professional" photographer, either by the quality of work that I have done, or the fact that I use my initials and the word "photography" on a "mypsace" page so that people i network with can see the photography work that i have done in the past 14 years. I do not own a studio, I shoot for free, with only compensation for travel or materials used, but not for pay or livelihood. Furthermore I have been in my career for the past 11 years and make 50K+ a year. But this was never an issue when I first began the claim for damage, so why is it now?

I hate to be so long winded, but I am at the point of frustration. I actually like this insurance company, and don't want my policies dropped because of an overzealous adjuster who thought they were saving the company money.

btw...the estimated loss, including damage, if covered would be around 1300-1500. And the policy has been in effect for about 10 months for this specific policy, and HO policy for almost 5 years with one claim.

    Do I have any options?
I am one of "those" people who hates to make claims in the first place. I dont not want to say the name of the company, but in my opinion, they are one of the BEST and are one of the top three insurers in the nation, even though they are only open to a "certain" group of the population and their families.

The first damage claim, I didn't want to make in the first place. I just wanted to know the process, if in the case it was more than I was willing to pay out of pocket. The adjuster over the phone was the one who said that in order to discuss it, I would have to open up a claim. And then after I found out it would only be 235 to fix, I was trying to close the claim since nothing had been paid out. The adjuster told me via email, that it would still count against my claim history, even if there was no payout. so the second claim on the same item came about out of vandalism and theft to my vehicle. My issue is the there was never this much work for the "1st" claim so why the 2nd?

    • ANSWER:
1 You should have spoken to your agent for advice.

#2 You should not have opened a 2nd or 3rd claim.

#3 ALL insurance companies investigate theft claims. That is because their is so much fraud. What your insurance company is doing is very, very common. If you want to pursue this claim it is require that you cooperate and give them what they want.

You have the option to call your insurance company and close the claim if either you do not want to cooperate or do not want to go through the pain of going through all that stuff.

Now you have at least 2 claims in 5 years and that is not a good thing. My suggestion is to close that 2nd claim with the camera. Your insurance company could drop you for 2 claims, but since your with a good company they may not, but could.

  9. QUESTION:
I feel its profiling or discriminating for insurance co to use credit to determine rates,is it?
have perfect driving record but pay top dollar for my auto ins. I'm 48 yrs old lost credit standing because of wifes medical. do you think I should start a class action suite cause somehow this is truely unfair, maybe discriminating and profiling me?

    • ANSWER:
I think you can try a lawsuit saying there is no correlation with your type of credit issues and high claims rates. You would need to back it up with stats. Most people with bad credit do not have good income or just don't pay bills. Its the irresponsibility factor that worries insurance companies. If you can prove your type of credit issues should not impact your risk, you might have an argument. You should sit down with a few attorneys to get a legal opinion though.

  10. QUESTION:
what do you think about the new 2010 ford car features?
What do you think about the new features,
Do you think its better, worse, ??????

DETROIT - So you think junior is a little too lead-footed when he drives the family car? Starting next year, Ford Motor Co. will give you the power to do something about it.

The company will roll out a new feature on many 2010 models that can limit teen drivers to 80 mph, using a computer chip in the key.

Parents also have the option of programming the teen's key to limit the audio system's volume, and to sound continuous alerts if the driver doesn't wear a seat belt.

"Our message to parents is, hey, we are providing you some conditions to give your new drivers that may allow you to feel a little more comfortable in giving them the car more often," said Jim Buczkowski, Ford's director of electronic and electrical systems engineering.

The feature, called "MyKey," will be standard on an unspecified number of Ford models when the 2010 cars and trucks come out late next summer. The feature will spread to the entire Ford, Lincoln and Mercury lineup as models are updated, spokesman Wes Sherwood said.

Ford arrived at the 80 mph limit even though freeway speed limits are lower in most states because it wanted to leave a margin in case an unusual situation arises, Buczkowski said. In some states, freeway speed limits are above 70 mph, Sherwood said.

"Just lopping it off at exactly 70 mph was felt to be too limiting," Buczkowski said.

The company already uses computer chips in its keys to prevent thefts. The car won't start unless it recognizes the chip in the key.

"It's making use of existing technology, and through the magic of software, we're able to build features on top of the features we already have," Buczkowski said.

In addition to speed limits, MyKey also will limit the volume of the audio system, and it will sound a six-second chime every minute if seat belts are not fastened. The chime sounds for adult drivers, too, but ends after five minutes to avoid annoying adults who adamantly don't want to wear seat belts, Buczkowski said.

Parents also have the option of having the car sound a chime if the teen exceeds 45, 55 or 65 mph.

The feature will debut on the 2010 Focus compact car and quickly move to other company models as a standard feature, the company said.

Ford said its market research shows 75 percent of parents like the speed and audio limits, but as you might expect, 67 percent of teens don't like them.

Danisha Williams, a 16-year-old senior at Southfield-Lathrup High School in suburban Detroit, said she's against the idea.

"I wouldn't want my parents to have that much control over how I'm driving," she said. "If your parents are holding your hand, you're never going to learn."

Brittany Hawthorne, 17, another Southfield-Lathrup senior, said there may be emergency situations where she'd have to drive more than 80, possibly to accelerate to avoid a crash.

Ford's research shows that parents would be more likely to let teens use their vehicles with the system, Sherwood said, and if it gets them the car more often, the number of teens objecting drops by nearly half.

A top official from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, a research group funded by the auto insurance industry that is pushing to raise the minimum driving age to 17 or 18, found the key intriguing and said she was not aware of any other manufacturer offering such a feature. IIHS says car crashes are the leading cause of death among teenagers.

"Research we've done has shown that speeding is a major factor in teen crashes, especially novice teen drivers," said Anne McCartt, the institute's senior vice president for research. "So I think a system that tries to correct the speeding behavior has the potential to improve safety."

More than 5,000 U.S. teens die each year in car crashes. The rate of crashes, fatal and nonfatal, per mile driven for 16-year-old drivers is almost 10 times the rate for drivers ages 30 to 59, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Several U.S. auto insurers have begun offering in-car cameras or global positioning equipment to help parents monitor their teens' driving behavior, in the hope of reducing the number of crashes.

  11. QUESTION:
Good student discount information for driving ensurance?
Ok, well I get my license soon and I heard about the driving discount for good students. I go to one of the highest rated schools in my state, in fact it is in the top 1%. I get very good grates, As and high Bs which are extremely hard to get at my school. Our teachers are strict. Anyway I am failing one class that most schools don't have, and that is Computer Aided Drafting Design. Its like an engineering course, but I am not into engineering. It is technically considered an elective, but it brings down my GPA. How do auto-insurance companies view this? Like would I still get a good student discount to help save money on my driving insurance. I am almost 17 and in the state of Colorado. DO you have any information on this topic? Please let me know.

    • ANSWER:
Meet with an actual person. Bring in all of your transcripts, and statements from teachers help. I was very average at about 75% and it helped my insurance quite a bit. Attendance records also help. Anything that shows you are dependable, and intelligent on any level.

  12. QUESTION:
I refinanced my auto loan with the same people that I had my loan with the first time.?
I went from a 19% interest rate to a 9% intrest rate and this is why I decided to refinance. The laon officer that helped me told me there were no fee's for doing any of this and he would just take my payoff and pay off the 1st loan and open a new loan with the new intrest rate. Well everything went well and then I check my credit report to see that my new loan balance is 1000.00 higher than my payoff was on the original loan. I went through all the loan papers and see that it was for credit insurance and gap waiver agreement. Does anyone know what this is and if I have any rights even though I signed the papers already? thanks(My vehicle is already negative equity and having an extra thousand dollars put on top of the balance isnt helping.)

    • ANSWER:
The insurance is on there probably because of the negative equity. you should have been aware of this before signing the paperwork. Gap is another insurance which I definitely reccomend if you already owe more on the vehicle than the vehicle is actually worth. If you total out your car, your insurance company is only going to give you what they feel is a fair value for your vehicle. Anything else you owe on the loan after that is your responsibility. Gap insurance will pay off any remaining loan balance that your insurance company does not cover.

  14. QUESTION:
How to deal with a auto repo?
Awhile back I ran into a situation to where I had to do a local small dealerships in-house financing on a vehicle. About a year and a half ago while gas prices were at their worse and I was dealing with finances left over from a divorce I decided I had to return the vehicle to the dealership. I spoke with them prior to doing this about possibly doing something to lower the payments, or maybe trading for some cheaper and economical (I was spending a minimum of 0 a month in gas alone). The owner said he doesn't trade his vehicles back in blah blah blah. So anyways push comes to shove, I completely cleaned the vehicle and politely returned it to him explaining that I could no longer afford that payment + insurance + gas on top of everything else. I was told that once the vehicle was sold "IF" there was a balance I would be responsible for it (remembering this is a famous buy here pay here dealership that finances everything and sells and whatever price he can because there are enough people like me that needed it).

Well here a year and half later after I even called to see what the status was with my account and I was told "you no longer have an account here, everything is zero'd out" I receive a letter from a legal office stating that the dealer had repeatedly tried to contact me about a balance of 00 (roughly) and with the accumulating interested and obnoxious attorney fees I now owe 64 (with an interest rate of 25.99996%) and unless I respond or dispute this claim in writing within 30 days it would be considered valid etc... I sent in a professional letter explaining why I wasn't aware of a balance and there has to be some form of miscommunication. About 5 days later I receive legal papers to where they are seeking judgement on this case.

What can I do about this? With an interest rate of 25.99996% building up quick I don't see me being able to pay this off with a resonable payment. Obviously I can't get a loan, after the divorce it was non stop financial down fall etc... Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!! I'm stressing quick and I think I'm trying to walk through a brick wall.

Sorry for the long story, I thought it might help to know a little more detail.

  15. QUESTION:
How Much will YOU pay for the Nationalized Health Care reform?
INDIVIDUAL MANDATE: All the plans require individuals to get health insurance, with government subsidies or expanded programs to help people with lower incomes purchase coverage. New online exchanges would be created to help people shop for policies at more affordable group rates. About 15 percent of U.S. residents, or some 46 million, lacked health insurance in 2008, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.-----This is similar to requirements of Auto Insurance, http://www.compuquotes.com/average-costs-of-insurance.html----This bill will require YOU to pay for your insurance. How much is yet to be determined.

EXPANDING COVERAGE: President Barack Obama and top Democrats in Congress say they want to cover all Americans, yet the proposals would still leave millions of people not eligible for Medicare uninsured, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office. Under the House proposal, about 17 million people, almost half of them illegal immigrants, would lack coverage, the CBO estimated. The plan by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Baucus would leave about 25 million uninsured, a third of them illegal immigrants, the CBO said.------ How do you FORCE Illegal immigrants to pay for insurance? They don't pay for Auto Insurance. The uninsured costs to insurance are simply transferred to those who do pay for it.-----Again how much will that be?

INSURER REQUIREMENTS: Insurers would no longer be able to reject new customers with pre-existing medical conditions; new restrictions would be placed on their ability to set premiums.----What are the "new" restrictions which will set premiums for private insurers? Is this a means to end their programs, thereby establishing ONLY government run insurance?

REDUCING COSTS: The legislation is intended to lower long- term health-care costs for consumers and the government.----Granted, the more people in a particular program the less it will cost (LONG TERM), but the statistics point out 46 million will be included within which program? The Governments or Private? The additionally insured will no doubt increase the costs to the individual policy holder. Again how much will that be?

All the plans call for greater access to preventive care, either with new programs or the elimination of co-payments, a change that proponents claim will save money by keeping people from developing diseases that are more costly to treat. They also call for more use of electronic systems to promote better record-keeping and reduce overhead costs.---Simply put this is Control over your day to day life. Standards will be em placed to prevent you from having that Hoagie with extra mayo.----Record keeping on a Government Run Nationalized Health Care Mandated fulfillment will ultimately undermine your INDIVIDUAL LIBERTY, no matter if it is in this bill or not eventually the Government will know everything about YOU.

Obama favors a new independent commission to set reimbursement rates for providers who treat patients in Medicare, the federal program for the elderly. The Senate finance committee draft embraced this idea, saying it would reduce costs by taking authority away from Congress and making payment decisions less politically charged. Members of the Blue Dog Coalition, a group of self-described fiscally conservative House Democrats, also support the plan.----Good Idea

BIOLOGICS: Biologic drugs, which are made from living cells by companies such as Thousand Oaks, California-based Amgen Inc., would get 12 years of protection from generic competition under a plan passed by the Senate health panel and the House Energy and Commerce Committee. The White House had sought to limit the exclusivity to seven years as a way of bringing prices down.----Concessions made to Pharmaceutical companies in return for political clout in advance of the reform bill. In other words the Pharms said they would cut costs up front in order to get their return long term.

COMPARING TREATMENTS: Legislation in both the House and Senate would create research centers to examine the efficacy of various health-care services, devices, treatments and procedures. None of the bills require the research be used to force health providers to adopt new procedures or policies to cut costs, which is an administration priority. Obama provided .1 billion in the stimulus act to fund so-called comparative effectiveness research.-----Teams will be in place to determine WHAT care (policy/procedures) is needed based on statistics for any particular disease. We all know statistics are only for those who read them not those who are a part of them.

    Differences

PUBLIC OPTION: The three House panels and Senate health committee would create a new government-run insurance program designed to compete with private companies such as Minnetonka, Minnesota-based UnitedHealth Group Inc. and help reduce prices for insurance in the market. The House Energy and Commerce Committee and the Senate health panel require that the new entity ne

    Guaranteed Auto Loans?
Hi. Does anybody know any auto loans companies that will take you regardless of credit? I have great credit the problem is that it is limited (about 8 months). I am currently a student, however, I make 600$ per week at my part-time job, and my parents still pay all my expenses including car insurance for my current vehicle (which is badly in need of replacement). So I can afford about 380 a month for the car note tops. The MSRP ranges from 15-21 thousand for the cars Im thinking of purchasing. Does anybody know an auto loan company that will take me and give me a fair interest rate or any other ideas to help out? All advice is appreciated, thanks!

    • ANSWER:
NOT OFF HAND BUT THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE THAT WILL TAKE YOU IN BUT THE DRAW BACK WILL BE A VERY HIGH INTEREST RATE THAT YOU WILL BE PAYING.

IF THE VEHICLES COST IS ,000 WITH AN INTEREST RATE OF 12% FOR 60 MONTHS THEN YOUR NOTE WOULD BE AROUND 7.67.

IF THE VEHICLES COST IS ,000 WITH AN INTEREST RATE OF 12% FOR 60 MONTHS THEN YOUR NOTE WOULD BE AROUND 7.13.

  17. QUESTION:
What is the best way to legally get my car back from my ex girlfriend in another state?
OK so this is the story. sad but true.

About a year and a half ago my girlfriend (at the time) named Amber, and I purchased a 2005 dodge stratus from a car dealership. The car was purchased through an auto loan. On this loan I am the primary signer, and Amber is the co-signer.

6 months later give or take, Amber and I decided to go our separate ways, ie breakup. At this time we were both living in Connecticut. Amber wanted the car, and since I didn't want two cars, we agreed that she would take the dodge stratus back to her hometown in New York. As part of this verbal agreement Amber was going to remove the loan from my name, and get the car registered and insured in New York.

Almost a year later now. Amber has not been able to remove my name from the auto loan, and the car still remains registered and insured under my name. Payments have been repeatably late (albeit still up to date). Although I was growing increasingly more and more frustrated about this situation, I was repeatedly made the promise that soon the car would be removed from my name.

The tipping point in this situation came two weeks ago. I received an email saying that the car's insurance had been canceled due to non-payment. So now the car is in a lapse of insurance. I tried to renew the insurance only to find out that Amber has a suspended license and they couldn't! To top off everything the very next day I found out that 0 dollars in back property taxes were due on the Dodge stratus and was forced to pay it in order to renew my own car registration.

Needless to say, I became very frustrated with this seemingly bad situation in which I was losing three things. My credit was being hurt, I was paying out of pocket for taxes that Amber would not pay, and also fines from the DMV for being in lapse of insurance, and also possibly hurting my own insurance rating for being in lapse of insurance thus making it possibly more difficult for my car to be insured.

I called Amber and said, "this is it, you have had more than enough time to remedy this situation you have a week to find another signer for the loan and get this car out from under me."

Still nothing has happened, and the car is in her hometown, uninsured in my name and registered in connecticut. I have told her that I will come get the car and forget about the 0 hundred dollars out of pocket for taxes and fines that she has caused but she says that she refuses to give me the keys. If I make the 20 hour round trip to get the car I want to make damn sure that I will return with it.

Basically my question is how do i proceed to legally obtain the keys from Amber and take the car back to Connecticut where it seemingly belongs. Who do I need to contact to get help?! Also, am i being unreasonable or is this girl being ridiculous?!

    • ANSWER:
If you have the VIN number (should be on insurance paperwork) go to the dealer, they should be able to make a key for you, you might also need the registration to show that the car is yours....and quick trip/ to the east coast, and you have your car back.....

I would highly suggest you remove any of her CDs/personal items from the car, and run them over on the way out.

Also in case she calls the police or you get pulled over on the way home, make sure you have ALL of your paperwork with you.

Once you have the car back, you may want to park it somewhere other than your house, or maybe even in storage, till you get the paperwork situation worked out

    • ANSWER:
If quality is of any concern, likely paying any amount of money for a Pontiac Solstice is too much.

Both the 2006 and the 2007 Pontiac Soltices have Consumer Reports' Much-Worse-Than-Average Reliability Verdict and the 2009 Has CR's predicted reliability of Much Worse Than Average.

In particular, General Motors' 2006 Pontiac Soltice has Much-Worse-Than-Average reliability ratings in the following categories:

      Engine Cooling
      Drive System
      Fuel System
      Electrical
      Climate System
      Suspension
      Exhaust
      Body Integrity
      Body Hardware.

There was insufficient data for Consumer Reports to rate the 2008 Pontiac Solstice, which, by itself, is ominous.

The Pontiac Solstice is also on AutoOnInfo.net's list of the Worst of 2009, with a Composite Reliability Value of -1.00 on a scale of -1.00 to +1.00.

It's an outstanding price - almost too good to be true outstanding.

Run the VIN through CarFax yourself (don't trust a dealer's CarFax report printout because they're really easy to fake or alter) and/or take it to a trusted body shop to make sure it's never been wrecked. If everything checks out and you want a Solstice you're not going to get a better price than that on a car that's virtually new. Congrats.

    • ANSWER:
So, you basically just listed all the factory options. That was pretty pointless.

      That said, here's what's important.

Cars, right now, are depreciating at between 10-15% per year. So, let's figure an average of 13%.

So, judging from a decent interest rate, etc, I'm going to guess you're putting a down payment of around 5,000-6000.

      Here's the fun part.

Within two years, you will have spent your downpayment, plus another ,000. So, a grand total of around ,000 on the car. And you will still owe another 00.

However. At that point, the vehicle is only worth around 10,000. So, if you decide you don't want it anymore, you can sell it for 10, but 5 of that must pay off the remainder of the loan.

Long story short, your 17k car is going to cost you around 22,000 by the time you're done. And if you sell it within the next two years, you'll only actually get 5k out of it.

      000 invested, for a 00 return.

Does that sound smart to you? Most intelligent people would say no.

  23. QUESTION:
Too big to fail or the bigger they are the harder they fall - Which applies to the US economy more?
Unemployment has lead to tent cities springing up all over

The housing market bubble burst when borrowers couldn't pay the banks over sold themselves and the insurance underwriters would never be able to pay out claims

And the taxpayer came to the rescue --- buying homes for banks to save the insurance industry (700 and then 800 billion dollars worth )

The auto sector fell apart -- mass layoffs off shoring mismanagement and poor sales --- the tax payer didn't come to the rescue.... more foreclosures more tent cities

Open world wide talk of dumping the US dollar that was kept behind the scenes durring Bush years is now in th eopen The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan added to the massive debts and increased money production at a rate that would not be paralelled until the anouncement of a trillion dollar out of pocket deficiet scheme anounced by Obama

Natural disasters --- the down turns in the dollar - unemployment - consumer debt -- the demise of the middle class the massive increases in profits amongst the top 2 % of corporate entities Massive and ongoing military promises campaigns in the form of wars and occupation armies

Too big to fail or the bigger they are the harder they fall - Which applies to the US economy more?

Can China afford to keep the US going or just accept it is going to be a hell of a big thump when it goes ?
    Lucky

Put "tent city" into a Google search -- add US or not --- and see what pops up

Go on --- do it - you will get more than you can handle or deny

    • ANSWER:
I think in the case of the US, it's the bigger they are the bigger they fall.Because there's so much rotten superstructure that will be dumped, and all for the best

    • ANSWER:
It doesn't matter what the loan says. It matters what the title says. Since the title says you, tell her you will report it stolen if she doesn't give you the keys -- and go to the police if she refuses.

Understand that you are responsible for the loan, either way.
