If you own a camper classic, insurance for van coverage can seem far too high. After all, you don't drive your nifty VW camper or your Sherpa every weekend, only once in a while, so your mileage is really low. But you want adequate cover to take care of any possible damage to your baby, so the cut-rate insurers don't really offer enough. What do you do?
For most people with a camper classic, insurance for van cover is readily available through camper and vintage automobile clubs. You will almost always get rock-bottom rates by going this route. But there are other ways you can decrease the costs of your vintage insurance.

QUESTION:
im need a van insurance quote but dont remember my convictions on paper license?-
ANSWER:
You don't need to remember it because once you provide some key identifying information, they will run a report with a national data vendor, most likely one called ChoicePoint which compiles every American's driving record.
You actually can contact ChoicePoint to ask to inspect your own record to check for accuracy.

QUESTION:
what kind of insurance do i need to drive a van for living?
i want to go sel-femployed, sell my car and buy a van to simply transport packages etc. like for example people posting adverts they need to transport a bike from hull to birmingham. i tried to get a quote for insurance and got completly lost. the best quote so far was for 4800!!!(even when i was a second driver and my old man with no claims discounts as 1st) this is too expensive i mean i know im young but never had an accident etc. so i went on churchill page today and they gave me quote for van insurance for 1200 pounds which is acceptable but i'm not sure if this is the policy i need for this kind of work...any ideas on the insurance?-
ANSWER:
You as second driver and dad as main is fraud. Fronting is the term used. Even if you did this and got away with it, unless dad is getting rid of his car he cannot use the NCB on the van as it can be on one policy at a time. He would have to prove that he has the NCB which he will not be able to do with the car policy in force - so no help anyway. You need commercial insurance and the type depends on what you plan to do and what you plan to carry.
If you will be a courier, taking anything at short notice to anywhere, you need courier insurance. I had that for a 2.7 tonne (small) Renault Trafic 18 months ago and at 47 it cost me £800 a year as a courier.
If you are doing pre-planned haulage work then it will be cheaper. You will also need "Goods in Transit" insurance.this will depend on what the goods are. if you want cover to knowingly carry high value items like phones, jewellry, spirits etc it will be around £500. If you exclude knowingly carrying those it will be more like £200 a year. If you want to do subcontract work for other carriers you will have to have this and along with your properly, (not fraudulently) set up van insurance they will insist on seeing proof before usiong you.
If you are sometimes working with the general public or if subcontracting then you also really need "Public Liability" insurance - £200 ish a year.
The van insurance is like car cover just more expensive and will be determined by the same things like age, licence history, where you live, where it is kept overnight etc. A small Peugeot 206 van will typically cost twice as much as an equivalent car to insure.

If it's possible for one of your parents or another adult who is over 25 with over 5 yrs no claims on their own car to get insured on the van with you as a named driver it may reduce the insurance significantly even with 2 people being insured on the policy - I hope this helps!

QUESTION:
Insurance Quotes?
So i just started driving and my parents put my name under the title of our van because the insurance was cheaper. Well i would like to save up and get my own car, but they keep bringing up that the insurance would sky rocket. The van is a '03 Honda odyssey and the car i'm looking at is a '91 Toyota 4runner. If anybody could give me a ballpark estimate of how much the insurance will cost for one verses the other. I'm 16 and live in the zip code 80127. Dont know if any other info is needed. Thanks.
We actually already have a good insurance agent, i just want to know about the difference in cost for the two vehicles.-
ANSWER:
Your parents are prob. right. The factors against you:
new driver
no driving history
age (ie: very young)will ramp up that insurance to the point where it will actually cost more then the value of the car after about two years.
PLUS.. your parents will STILL have to have some kind of coverage on you since until you are an adult or emancipated, they are legally responsible for your actions.
Stick with their insurance and save the money for a GREAT car in about 5 years.

QUESTION:
cheapest business insurance for van courier?
i'm looking for the cheapest business insurance i can find to use as a van parcel courier. i expect to cover around 50 thousand miles p year. i have been quoted by one company at £2625 fully comp per year. (yes i nearly fell of my chair) and £1283 by milestone insurance (fully comp) This sounds an incredible amount for insurance, is there a cheaper way?
does anyone know of any cheaper insurers for van couriers? also do i need fully comp with business use, or is 3rd party fire and theft business use enough?-
ANSWER:
I work for an Insurance Brokers and those prices sound about right to me. Premiums for Courier insurance are normally quite high. You can go TPFT if you want to for a cheaper premium but remember if you cause an accident it will not cover repair to your vehicle. Do you really want to be left with large repair costs and no vehicle if your a courier? No. Try a company called FM Green or Tradex. Just type the names in to Google and you can get a quote and advice online.

QUESTION:
Getting new car insurance quotes and don't know if it is my claim or not.?
I was in an accident about 4 years ago. I rear-ended someone and wrote the van off, however my parents didn't use insurance to get a new car and the SUV I hit had no damage. I did report it and their insurance is aware of it. I also was not charged with anything although the police did show up because it was on a busy street. It was a 4 car pile up I happened to be at the back of.
My question is that the accident was under my parents insurance and I am now looking for car insurance quotes and am unsure if this claim is considered mine or my parents.
Any help would be appreciated-
ANSWER:
Car insurance depends on many factors. The car u buy, ur age and driving experience. Normally age below 32 will have to pay higher premumt.-.! U will also have to have clean recore in order to obtain 50% NCB so that it will bring down ur premium level. So drive safe!

QUESTION:
Why am I getting such high auto insurance quotes?
I'm really frustrated. I wanted to finally get auto insurance next month. But the free quotes I'm getting on insurance websites (such as Progressive, AllState and Geico) is WAY too expensive!
My brothers insurances were always like 0-0 for 6 months. But I just got a quote from AllState for over 0 for 6 months and 1 for 6 months from Progressive. That's NUTS!I have a 1995 Ford F-150 pickup. And sure, it's bigger than my brothers Ford Ranger and my other brothers Ford Aerostar van, but still.....why is it THAT MUCH MORE expensive?
I'm in my 30's and have never had an accident or traffic voilation of any kind within the 14 years I've been driving. I guess none of that matters. All I know is that I'll NEVER be able to afford insurance with quotes like I'm getting.-

QUESTION:
Their insurance said our quotes don't matter?
My husband and I live in Ohio. We were in a car accident this week, where a van backed into my car (which was not moving). The guy was very nice, and his insurance company called me later that day. When the insurance company called me again a few days later, I told her I wanted to use my own garage (in actuality, we want to fix the car at home) and that we are getting quotes. She told me my quotes don't matter, that they don't even want them, and that the insurance company will GIVE me my quote. Then she had the gall to ask if I thought she was going to lie to me. (haha). Can they DO this? Can they refuse to even use my quotes? I know that I can hire a lawyer to sue her client, but I want to be sure that the check comes to ME in MY name. The car is in my name, it isn't leased. A friend of mine works in insurance, and told me to tell their insurance company anymore that my lawyer advised me not to speak to them again. (I don't have a lawyer yet). So now what? Can they DO that??-
ANSWER:
both of the above answers are good... from different perspectives. But you didn't say what YOUR insurance company is doing. ? They should be able to give you some guidance in this matter since they are YOUR advocates.
Once you find out some background consider :
1) You should be able to fix the car anywhere you want but the insurance company only has the obligation to pay a reasonable amount necessary to restore you to how you were before the accident.
2) Get three estimates for the damage. Send copies to the other person and his insurance company by registered mail. (Remember its the other driver who owes you NOT his insurance company - they act for him). In an accompanying letter give them a reasonable time to come and inspect your car before you begin repairs.
3) Take lots of 'before' photos to supplement your estimates.
4) If they come see your car and give you their estimate maybe it is good... maybe not... but if its close to the estimates then that may solve your problem.
5) If they do not repond - repair the car. Take more photos
6) Send the driver the bill. If he pays fine... if not Wapnerize him (small claims if under k or whatever Ohio's law allows) if it is over k then you will need a lawyer.
7) If they lowball your estimates, decide if you want to try to settle with them via a compromise. If not, go to step 5 after sending them a letter telling them that their quote is insufficient to restore your car.
Payment: Payment will be made to the owner of the vehicle. If there are registered and legal owners payment may be made in both names.
good luck

QUESTION:
Pickup Truck insurance at age 18?
I am 18 and I want to get a Nissan Navara. I have got a quote for the non-commercial versions eg le, se and xe for £1990 which is fine, but I cant get an online quote for the D22 version. Its a 2005 D22 Navara di. It says I have to ring them as they cant give me an online quote. Does anyone know if this model can be insured on normal car insurance as I am under 21 and it will be very difficult and expensive to get commercial or van insurance.-

Pickup trucks generally do not cost very much in insurance.

QUESTION:
Advice please - car insurance claim, hit by white van man, not my fault, now he's claiming I hit him?
Back in May a white van man changed lanes on the dual carriageway without looking and pulled into the drivers side front wing of my car, damage not significant - probably about £500 worth, but you can't really tell it's been hit, more scraped. The other driver was very nice, apologised profusely, said the sun caught his eyes etc, and to call him if there was a problem. I immediately reported it to my insurers, not expecting any problems. Over the past 3 months this other driver has turned quite nasty with me, after having told me to get a quote and he'd pay it, he changed his mind and told me to go through the insurance. He finally reported the accident to his insurers last week, telling them that I drove into the back of him, but that I caused no damage to his vehicle - which is why he never reported it until now. My premium is due for renewal in October. Do I continue to fight this - not wanting to let him get away with it, or let it go? Might I lose my no-claims bonus?
If this goes all the way through the legal process, and he's not found liable will this cost me money? Will I have to pay up for time spent by the insurers working on the case? I can't afford to lost my no-claims discount. I have legal protection, but no witnesses to the accident or the conversations he has had with me and my husband where he has admitted guilt and been apologetic.-
ANSWER:
Im sorry this has happened to you, its a horrible and stressful scenario. i'm going to presume you are insured fully comprehensive.
Firstly, im afraid it would not be as beneficial as you think to drop your case now. Because you have already informed your ins comp, if you drop the claim, you still have to inform all ins companies if you want a quote. Any further quotes from your comp or any other will show you having a " claim with no loss of NCB". This can still have an effect on your premium.
Secondly, if you do pursue this, and it is settled as a 50-50 claim (where the ins company cannot determine who is at fault), you will lose your NCB, unless it was protected. Check your ins policy forms.
Thirdly, check your docs to see if you have Legal Cover. This is usually added onto a policy almost automatically and is up to a value of £50,000 - £100,000. This will pay for all your legal costs, you will not have to pay a penny (no claim ever goes over this amount so dont worry about that either). If you dont have this included, check your home insurance policy for it, you can use this too.
You say your renewal is in October. If you choose not to fight this, your renewal will be based on you having had a claim even though you chose not to go through with it. As I said before, this is because you have already informed your ins comp about it. It will be at your ins comp's discretion if they are going to penalise you financially for it...they may do because they will be aware every company will. contrary to previous answers, If you choose to pursue this, your ins company will undertake a "worst case scenario" regarding your renewal premium. This means you will be sent a renewal stating you have an unsettled claim, they will reduce your NCB and increase your premium accordingly. The reason for this is that should the claim then be settled in your favour, your NCB and premium will be sorted and they will refund you all monies due to you (backdated to the start of your policy date). All ins comps do this because it is easier to refund money than it is to increase a premium and chase money , should it be settled as fault. If you need any more info, please feel free to contact me through my profile.

QUESTION:
I knocked someones car but he claimed for a lot more and now my insurance has gone from £400 to £900 - help!!?
Back in June I knocked into a stationary vehicle in a car park. I waited for the guy to come back and apologised straight away. (when its your fault in life own up)He was initially annoyed (fair enough) but went on to tell me that someone else had knocked into his car recently and caused £600 worth of damage (the other driver had sped off and hed already had a quote for the work). I cant remember the exact wording of the next bit - but it was understood that I would pay whatever it cost on top of that to fix the area (bumper / side corner area)
We exchanged details. I told my insurance company what had happened and the previous damage. There were also photos taken at the time that I forwarded on (not sure if they were actually any help)
Next I hear his insurance company has approached mine with a bill for £700. The total amount for fixing his car. I brought up the matter of the previous damage - couple of conversations between insurance companies - his asking him directly if there was any previous damage and him saying no.
I told my insurance company that there was a friend with me (we were walking our dogs in the park) who had heard the whole conversation - in fact she was the one that took the pictures. She is a responsible, respectable person who was happy to make a statement.
I was told by the insurance company that as it was someone who knew me - they couldnt be seen as an impartial person and they ended up paying the whole amount to his insurance company.
I have just received my new insurance quote. Last year it was £437 and now that I have lost my 3 years no claims bonus (I have been driving for much longer but have only owned a small van for 3 years (practicality for my dogs muddy feet) and insurance starts again for vans) but I also have this £700 fault against my name this year. My insurance quote is now £960.
Is there anything I can do. Does anyone have advice for any further action I can take?
I believe in taking responsibility for your actions - but I am being cheated here out of a lot of money and I dont know what to do. If £100 was down to me then I could have just paid that amount directly and not lost my no claims bonus. But as it stands it will cost me around £500 this year and more again on the consequent years of insurance.
Sorry for this being a long one but I really am lost. My insurance is due on 7th Jan.
Is there any way to make this a civil law issue?
Just to stress the point that my insurance company agreed that if I had paid the amount myself (ie the £100) then I would not have lost my NCB.-
ANSWER:
You made a claim, and it was your fault, on your insurance and lost the NCB - nothing more to say than that means without the bonus you have to pay more. You have no case to bring in law that would get you anywhere. All that has happened is a standard insurance claim, a payout , and a loss of discount. happens to some people everyday.

QUESTION:
Car Insurance quote question?
When I try and get a quote for some cars on either Tesco or Direct line, it tells me they cant give me a quote online and il need to ring them. Also, the browser wont let me go back, so they make you close the window and type out another quote all over again! Why do they do this? The car I want to insure is a Nissan Navara D22. I am guessing that its because its a commercial vehicle and they want to check if il be using it for commercial use. I am 18 and have had my licence for a year, and I will be the named driver on the policy, my dad being the main driver who has over 30 years NCB! I managed to get a quote for a new Navara, not the D22 version and that was about £1990. How much do you think the D22 will be? Do you think they might class it as a van and not insure me because im under 21?
-
ANSWER:
Try Quickfit, they do great commercial vehicle insurance, plus this time of the month is a good time to insure because they are all chasing their bonuses, got mine quote reduced by nearly 30% if I signed up before the end of the guy`s shift.

QUESTION:
cheap insurance for someone who had foreign licence?
Do you know any insurance company which will insure a small van (suzuki carry), and will recognise my previous 8 years driving experience in Australia? I have only just got around to getting a British licence (as the road rules and driving standards are similar, I can just trade my Australian one in, no test), and been living in the UK just over a year. Have tried a few insurance quote websites, and they all seem to be quoting me the same as a brand new driver who has just passed their test - i.e. extremely expensive!
thanks for any tips!-
ANSWER:
In actual fact it doesn't matter so much about your licence but you should get paperwork from your AU insurers stating that you haven't had an accident in X years, and your break from driving must not be longer than a year or so.

QUESTION:
Can anyone help me get a ball park figure on a insurance rate for a 95-99 eclipse gst?
I tried getting quotes from websites but they ask a lot of info like if i own it already. I am planning to buy a eclipse i want to upgrade from my crappy astro van. I am 22, male, live in chicago, one violation driving w/o insurance, only been licenced for a year, and the eclipse will be fully paid for. My dad will be the first driver hes 50 and i dont think he has any violations. I already pay 0 for 6 months liability i want to know if the eclipse will be more than that.-
ANSWER:
What's your CREDIT score? And you can't use DAD as a "first driver" if the car is in your name. And, what's your ADDRESS? That matters. And what LIABILITY limits do you have, for which coverages? Do you want liability only?
If you want liability only, and both the old car and the new car are in your name, you shouldn't see a change with most companies.
Otherwise, you're going to have to give a ton of information. I'm sure, ,000 to ,000 is too much of a ball park, but that's probably going to be accurate, based on the information you gave.

QUESTION:
insurance?
i had an accident in 2003 it wasnt my fault ,8 days later another stolen van hit my car from behind and drove off,not my fault again,if i m asking for insurance quote do i have to tell them about these accidents happend.if yes i get high insurance i checked with and without accidents, plz help thnx in advance-
ANSWER:
If these accidents were reported to the police or to prior insurance agencies, the new insurance agency will know about them. They might give you a low rate when you apply if you don't tell about the accidents, but they will do a complete search before they actually issue the policy. When they find the accidents, they will bill you for the higher rate. If you don't pay them, they will cancel your insurance.Since the wrecks were not your fault, you might not be charged the higher rates. The best thing to do would be to contact several insurance agencies and have them check your history and give you an authentic rate quote.
Independent insurance agencies (instead of State Farm, Geico, American Family, etc) can go through several different insurance agencies to find the best rates for you. For us, howver, American Family had the best rates and coverages.

QUESTION:
Will the Insurance pay as I was late to report an accident?
My car was hit by a guy called Ray Van Kogelenberg. It was his fault but we agreed that I was going to get a quote and let him know instead of using the insurance. I got a quote of 340 pounds and he told me that he did't have that kind of money but If I was going to wait till end the month then he would send me a cheque. He is not answering his phone and I don't know if the insurance will pay because it's more than 25 days since the accident happened. He lied to me about his name but I managed to get his name from the vehicle Reg no Y94JPA and I have his address as 21 Lodgehill Park close
Harrow HA2 0PD and the car is a renault clio Registered in UK on 03/05/2001 He calls himself Ollie Rumbord but I tracked him in facebook and happened to be Ray Van Kogelenberg I have his tel number as 07971339155 and I am not sure if contacting the insurance will be of any help.Regards
-
ANSWER:
Yes your insurance would pay (if you have fully comp) if you do tell them and let them sort it out, it's then their problem not yours. Though you will still have to pay the excess (which might even be higher than 340 so you'll get nothing) and you'll lose your NCB... hardly fair if it wasn't your fault. However if you don't have fully comp.. or you want his insurance to pay... you are going to have to do some work yourself.
First if he gave you false details, you can report him to the police as it's an offence to do that. I would do this as getting a police report will help later on, especially as you don't even know if the guy HAS any insurance.
If he doesn't you'll need to get it back either from him or via the Motor Insurers Bureau. which is a government established (industry funded) legal body which exists to aid and if necessary compensate victims of negligent uninsured and untraced motorists.
They are a pretty helpful bunch and you could do worse than give them a ring anyway, they are the experts in this area. Just go to www.mib.org.uk to get their contact details.

QUESTION:
Now brainwashed conservatives are defending health insurance companies?
45,000 people die every year strictly due to the system, and you ignore this and rush to come to the defense of health insurance companies?"Profits barely exceeded 2 percent of revenues in the latest annual measure."
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091026/ap_on_bi_ge/us_fact_check_health_insuranceYou take that quote and use it to defend these companies, and use it like the Government is trying to take them down in some kind of socialist plot.

ANSWER:
The "45,000 die" has so thoroughly been debunked, it isn't even funny. The Harvard study tracked 9,004 people over 8 years and only 351 died over that time. The death rate for those with insurance was .030, the death rate for those with out insurance was .033. That isn't even statistically relevant and yet the Harvard "researchers" extrapolated that tiny difference over the entire population to invent the 45,000 number.Catch a clue.

QUESTION:
How do I insure my van for a 4-month-long road trip in the USA?
Hi,I just bought a van today, for a 4-month-long road trip that I'm taking with friends. We live (and are licensed) in Quebec, and the van is registered in my name. We're hoping to leave next week.
We'll be driving from Montreal to Los Angeles for the first month, and staying in Los Angeles for about 2.5 months before heading back.
I have requested a number of quotes, but leaving the province for more than 3 weeks seems to set off some red flags for our insurers, because the prices are either outrageously expensive (1100$/year), or the insurers tell us straight-up that they won't do it.
I've been covered as a secondary or occasional driver on my mom's car in the past, and have never had an accident, never been pulled-over and never had my license revoked. Neither has the other driver.
We are looking into one-way (i.e. civil liability only) insurance for two drivers. I've been told that I need a minimum of 2 000 000$ coverage when traveling to the US.
So, any ideas on how/who can make this work?
-
ANSWER:
Are you calling American company's or insurance company's in Canada?I would check a couple insurance company's in the US and see what they say.
You did not say how old the van is and what type of coverage you are looking for. 1,100 a year is not that bad depending on your age, age of auto and where you live.
Also as you are traveling I would find a different address beside LA to use for the insurance. Insurance rates for LA and just nuts.

QUESTION:
What do i do? What are the NY laws pertaining to accidents?
I hit some guys van. I left a note. he called me back. we talked i told him to get some quotes. he gets back to me and tells me its 1000. to fix a door that i just dented in. i had no problem with that cause i know a body work guy who could get me the door and do the work and even paint it for cheaper then the 1000. but he said he didnt want that done. he wanted to have it his way. so i try to get money up for it but i have no job right now and there really isnt much i can do besides go through insurance. every time i offered the guy what i can get done for him. he is unflexible cause he wants everything perfect. i was just like i cant do it. so just go through insurance. now he doesnt want to. its been months since this happened and i dont want to get in trouble for it. i was in the wrong to hit him, i have offered what i could to him. what kind of trouble can i get into? or how do i resolve this? can you still file a claim? people told me to ignore him but i dont think thats right-
ANSWER:
Technically, you should advice your insurance company of the situation. Only problem is, once you do that, your rates with probably go up. If they guy hasnt contacted you, I'm assuming he probably called your insurance company and filed a claim. You did all that you could do. I would just leave it alone, if he decides to have you get it fixed your way, then thats great. If he decides to call your insurance co... then they will deal with it.
The only problem I can foresee is the insurance company denying the claim becuase technically you are supposed to advice them of the accident immediately. I wouldn't worry too much about that though. If the insurance co gives you a problem, just tell them that you decided to settle it outside of insurance and then the guy just went and made a claim. I havent yet heard of a company denying a claim in a situation like this.

QUESTION:
Rental Car Company is overcharging for accident repair, what do I do?
My father recently rented a luton van, while turning a corner he damaged the right corner of the roof on a tree branch. As the damage was above the windscreen height, according to the rental insurance he is liable for the repair cost. The Rental company has quoted a ridiculous amount for the repair of the fiberglass roof, this is an old Van and the roof has plenty of patched repairs from previous damage, and it seems they are just trying to make a quick buck.
What would be the best way to contest their quote?
Any advice would be very appreciated.-
ANSWER:
His auto insurance (well, in the US & Canada anyway), will extend to cover collision damages. Try calling them.

QUESTION:
Insurance claim problem, please help?
My tarmac drive was ruined when my son parked his works van on it, and it had a dual leak of diesel and oil overnight. I have written to the company he works for asking if they are insured against this kind of thing, but they haven't replied.I have three quotes here for driveway repair. The question is, what do I do now?
My son works for his dad, who is my ex husband, so there is no chance he will be victimised, or lose his job, if that were the case, I wouldn't even consider it!-
ANSWER:
Photocopy the 3 quotes, send them with a note, recorded delivery, requesting payment within 14 working days.If they dont reply, send another letter, recorded delivery, saying that if they dont sort matters within 7 working days you will go to the small claims court.
Dont worry whether or not they are insured for this. You just want payment. If they are insured let THEM claim against the insurance.
Dont deal with them over the phone as you have no proof of what has been said.
If you need further help with this go to the citizens advice bureau.

QUESTION:
Insurance write offs...................?
If your car is written off by your insurance company following an accident due to the cost of the repairs quoted by an approved garage, do you have the right to buy the salvage back?I've got a branf new Fiat van and had what I thought was a relativley minor prang, bonnet, bumper and grill and cracked radiator.
The approved garage reckons when their report goes into the insurance company it will be a border line case for write off.
If this is the case, do I have the right to buy the slavage?
Only people with knowledge please answer, I dont wat opinions, I need clarification. Thanks in advance.
Just to clarify, I've spoken to the garage and they say there is no damage to the chasis or structure, it's just panel damage, but they started goin on about the ECU(£800) and other electrical stuff which they have to replace with new. I know I can get the spares from salvage and get the work done myself for a fraction of the figures they're talking about.Seems to me, if you're an insurance approved garage, it's a licence to charge top dollar and print your own money !!!

ANSWER:
Okay, the way it actually works is this. If your insurers write the vehicle off and pay you out, it becomes their property, which they then do with as they please. Most insurers will be happy to let you buy it back at whatever value it then has to them, particularly as they then don't have the hassle of recovering it, sending it to the scrapyard etc. They don't have to though, it's their property to do with as they wish.
If they do, when they say they're going to write it off ask them what they would sell the remains back to you for. If that's acceptable, they normally just knock the "sale price" off the cheque they send you and the vehicle's yours again.
Are you sure there's no underlying structural damage which isn't visible to you? You should ask to have a look at the assessors' report to the insurers.

QUESTION:
No car insurance/accident question....HELP!!!?
I recently was involved in a 4 car accident and I unfortunately rear-ended a van going 30 mph which pushed 2 other cars into each other. I have full coverage on one of my vehicles just and recently (2-1/2 months ago) bought another car. I thought I put full coverage on the accident car online 10 days after the car was purchased through my existing insurance company. After the accident, I tried to file the claim through the insurance company and they told me I'm not insured on that car and the effort was only a "quote" and not an addition to my policy. I totaled the car and possibly the car I hit.. What are my rights? I need any suggestions....help!! I have proof of the bill of sale date and proof of the "quote" date.
I have an existing policy and the car was supposed to be added. The payments directly out of my bank account and I have a hard plastic insurance card with my policy number on it and no vehicle indications
I have an existing policy and the car was supposed to be added. The payments directly out of my bank account and I have a hard plastic insurance card with my policy number on it and no vehicle indications
I am with USAA insurance.. and I specifically remember giving the VIN number during the online session when I purchased the car...right now I'm in Minnesota.-
ANSWER:
You have a limited time to add a newly purchased vehicle to your policy. You should have called your agent to add the vehicle. Don't rely on "on line". Most companies require that vehicles be added and deleted by company staff. Did the quote have you enter the vehicle identification number? You have to give this to the company to actually add a vehicle - but it is usually not required for a quote.
The only thing you can do is talk to your agent and see if they can help you out. Since you did not actually add the car to the policy -- the company does not owe you coverage.
If your company does not allow you to backdate coverage - then you are going to have to pay for the damage to your car and the cars in front of you. Once your company denies coverage - the other drivers will be able to file under their own policies. Once their companies settle with them, they will contact you for re-payment. You can set up a re-payment plan (interest free) to pay each of the companies back.
What company are you with? Someone out here may be familiar with that companies specific procedures.

QUESTION:
my boyfriend and I were involved in a car accident, the insurance company say we are liable confused?
right so my prtner pulls up at a junction in a 20mph zone behind car A, we are indicating left and so is car A. There is a massive white van parked immediately to the right of the junction which is illegal as you must park at least 10 metres from any junction but cars always park here, we couldnt see what was approaching from the right of the road we're pulling on to. So car A pulls out quickly and as it does we start to nudge out trying to get a better veiw of the road, it all happened really quickly, from the right another car (car B) comes hurtling round the parked vechcles and has to swerve quite harshly to avoid Car A just missing it but skidded along the road and travelled along the front of our car causing quite alot of damage ( we were stationary at this point) car b left quite clear skid marks on the road and was obviously speeding, he got out and exchanged details with us then went on his way while we had to park our car and walk home luckily not far. My partner contacted the police as soon as we got home who showed no interesst at all, so we then rang the insurance company. Within 2 weeks we recieved a letter from our insurance company sayin we were liable and that they would go ahead with this lads claim so we wrote back arguing the case, but according to the insurance company because we admitt edging out of the junction it is us at fault despite us quoting the high way code which clearly states we were acting appropriately at the junction. The insurance havent carried out an investigation and seem oblivious that the extent of the damage caused to our car could not possibly of been caused if he hd been driving at 20mph plus having to swere car A! I dont know what to do a I honestly believe we were not at fault, i mean if that bloody van was not obstructing the road this would not of happened, what were we meant to do, turn around and not use the junction which wouldnt of been possible any way...
1. We did take pictures of both the van and skid marks on road from car B but insurance said it would not be nessercary to send them2. My partner was the driver who is 31 and has held a full license since he was 17
the other party was 19 had 4 passengers music blaring etc-
ANSWER:
When you take out insurance then you give the insurer the right to decide who is liable even if it is you. They do not pay out if they believe there is a way round it so you can be safe in the knowledge that they believe you were liable and it is not worth contesting.
As insurance and or address and name details were exchanged at the scene and no one was injured then it is not a Police matter so that is why they would have nothing to do with it.
The white van poorly parked was unfortunate but there is no way that the driver of that can be held liable. For me that incident was a 50/50 one but like you my opinion makes no difference as your insurer has the last word

QUESTION:
Mercedes A class for an 18 year old?
Im 18 and my current car is a Jaguar X type. I am selling it as it is costing me too much to run. I wanted to get a smart roadster coupe but I cant find a decent insurance quote.I am thinking of getting a Mercedes A160 or A170 diesel. It would be practical for me as I am a carpenter and you can turn it into a small van by folding away the back seats completely.
I know the Jag isnt a great car for a young boy as it can be seen as an od mans car, but what is the Merc A class seen as? Is it a grannys car or a mum's school run car?
Any other suggestions?
Cheers
*old mans car
Right just to clear a few things up....I am under my dads insurance on the Jag as a named driver and it costs £2100 with tesco.
I paid £6000 for the Jag it is a 2002 model, and you can buy a Mercedes A class for less than that. I am not spoiled I work full time as I am an apprentice carpenter and I pay for my own cars. I dont throw my money away on cigarettes and alcohol like alot of other 18 year olds.

QUESTION:
Is there any way in? (Auto Insurance for a bad record...)?
Thanks so much for reading!
I have three at-fault accidents on my record within the past 2 yrs. I am an 18 yr. old female college student. All three are types that could have happened to anybody.. one was sliding on ice into a ditch, two was van breaking down in middle of the intersection and it "struck" another car in the next lane because of the angle my van was, three was me pulling out of my spot very slowly and a van was speeding through the parking lot in the middle of two lanes and my rear hit him. Anyway...
I need to get a different car soon... I'm going to get a loan so putting it on liability isn't an option (I have the car I have now on lia. because it's payed off but I have to get rid of it). Every company I get quoted for (online quote) has huge monthly (even for minimum coverage) payments.. Geico and State Farm are 0 and 0 and I'm pretty sure it's because of my history...
Many places I'm quoted on are like this... am I missing something? Is there any way to get around this?? Thank you so much!-
ANSWER:
FIRST OF ALL FORGET THAT ONLINE QUOTE BULL. you need to sit down and contact the local agents in your area, get a blank pad of paper and call all of the ones in the phone book, and write down the quotes, if you still have insurance on your car now, good, that helps, you can try to get a six month policy, or a one year policy, but write down all the different quotes, even call different agents with the same company, every quote will be different, Your insurance is going to be high, but not as bad as those online quotes were. best of luck.

QUESTION:
Can I get my policy cancelled?
Back ay Christmas I hit black ice & slid into another accident that was blocking the road. They said it my fault even though its not. I was charged accordingly & now my premium has doubled. I live in Ontario canada. To make a long story short, I wanna know if I can stop driving all together (no need anymore) & get my wife (perfect driving record, but always has been a 2nd driver on my policy) to just get a policy under her name. We have already done an on line quote with TD Bank insurance & its half the price of what I will have to pay for a premium. Both our names are on the car ownership of which we acquired this past Xmas after the accident which caused a write off of our old van. During the on line quote it asked if she ever had insurance or weather she was just a 2nd driver on someone else's policy, and the still gave her a much better quote. I was not at fault & just a guy trying to save some money...If your going to answer with "you did the crime now pay the price" etc etc, stick it up your, %$$^^$& and to anyone who answers me with good info, I thank you ahead of time.-

Small business UK - Help?
I've recently started my own company. I'm finding it tough to find work. I'm an electrician 23 years old. I have started from scratch with £1200 which I saved up. I don't have a big van that can advertise because I can't afford to insure it. I'm getting quotes of £4000 per annum just for insurance. Its just unrelistic for me. So I've got a small car with logos stickers on but it isn't great for advertisement. I have no money for marketing as I have spent my saved budget. I had business cards made and stickers for my car....Also I have had to spend lots on testing equipment and tools. I have my own free website which I have designed myself. I'm ranking in top 7 on google map for my local area but no well for my district. My girlfriend is saying I have no business because I have yet to do a job...Its really hurting me that she isn't supporting me and thinks its easy to just go out and find work.
I've had 3 jobs to look at over 3 weeks 1 wqas too big for me so I didn't take it on. The other I didn't get becxause he said I was too expensive! and the last one I am waiting for a response.
Its so hard. But I have started from the very bottom with no help with funds I was unemployed for over a year and have had little start up capital.

QUESTION:
Body shop fixed my wrecked vehicle without my permission or signing any documentation to work on it?
I was in an accident and i took my car to 2 body shops, and my lawyer at the time informed me that the insurance wanted my van in a shop and i took it to one that they recommended and when they told me the quote i was upset that it was lower than the other 2 shops and then when i wanted to go back to get my vehicle they had all ready started working on it without my permission, There is still damaged on my vehicle and owner claim that i did the damage. Can i do something to get my money back?
I did yell at the lawyer who told me to take my car there and i changed to another lawyer, but since my car was already fix by the time i change lawyers they cant do anything about it. I want to know who i can call to report the body and lawyer
that's a pretty good answer. Then why when i asked my attorney they denied that they made the decision and told me that the insurance did, and when i was on 3 way with the attorney and the insurance, the insurance denied that they authorized the decision.Another thing, the inside of my car has broken pieces that they use to put back in my car and the doors pieces are coming off. They didnt do a good job. And he owner sign a lifetime warranty. if its legal what they did why did the owner do that and the attorney offer me to buy every part new? Without costing me a cent. yeah right, i knew that the money was eventually going to come out of the settlement and the assistant of the attorney said he had all my conversations on tape. He never informed me that he was going to tape the conversation. When i asked for the copy of the tapes, He just blew it off.-
ANSWER:
Nope, not a thing, you signed a power of attorney to your attorney to represent you in both the property damage and bodily injury portion of your claim. This means that your attorney was able to make those decisions about where to get vehicle repairs done for you. Sounds like they made the decisions for you. Once the body shop obtains permission from you or your attorney they have to teardown the vehicle to determine the extent of damages/order parts. Doing this as soon as possible allows them to work on your vehicle in an efficient manner. You can ask the body shop who authorized the tear down, but in all likelihood it was your attorney. And even after teardown you could take your vehicle from the shop, that was your right to do so you would just need to have paid the shop for the work that they had done to tear down the vehicle, especially if they had a signed designation for tear down. So you still could have taken your vehicle from the shop or had it towed to another shop and you left it there for the repairs. You aren't getting any money back. Additionally the other 2 quotes were probably super high because they may have put in the cost to repair/replace parts that they thought would be damaged but they didn't KNOW were damaged. It sounds like the quote given to you by the shop that did the work was based on damages assessed after the vehicle was "torn down" meaning that all damaged parts were taken off the vehicle. This is the most accurate assessment of the ACTUAL damages to your vehicle. The other 2 quotes were speculative at best.

QUESTION:
A few questions about the miata?
Alright so basically i've been driving for 3 years and i'm starting to seriously consider buying a miata as my first car. I want the miata because its lightweight, good handling, two seater (no need to give everyone rides
), economical. Also I looked up the insurance rates for a few different cars and the first gen miata, even the 1999 ones, always get really nice rates (for a teenager). My dad and I even went into the insurance office and the quote I got was even lower than the quote I got on the net.So its almost like the perfect car...
But there are two things about the miata that concern me. Winter driving and cost of parts.
Please only answers from people who own miata's.
So how does the miata handle in the winter? I've driven a rwd van in the winter and slid with it so I have experience controlling slides. But the thing is that miata's are so light. So how do they handle with snow tires?
Also are they really as reliable as ppl say? Are parts expensive?
Oh yea, and I'm talking about the first gen miatas. But if I find a good deal on the second gen, i wouldn't mind going for those.
thanks

ANSWER:

So how do they handle with snow tires? Not what you want to hear, but they are NOT very good in snow. Snow tires would help, but still not very good. Also are they really as reliable as ppl say? Yes, very reliable
Are parts expensive? No more expensive than a Toyota or Honda. PLUS, they are reliable as I have stated. They aren't going to break down that often so it's irrelevant.
Sorry, not a Miata owner, but I drive them at least once a week (see below)...and I'm in Indiana and we get plenty snow.

QUESTION:
I had an accident 2 years ago and never reported it to the DMV. Will this come back to bite me?
January 2009 I had a little fender bender with a van. I hit the van from behind when there was a quick stop. We pulled off to the side and looked at the damage and there was barely anything visible. I was going 10-15mph and hit the brakes before contact. We exchanged info and i told him to give me a couple of weeks to come up with some money instead of going through insurance. He ended up just calling my insurance company a week later and filed the claim. My insurance called me and said the adjuster quoted 900 something dollars. I admitted fault and said okay and that was the last I heard from them. I called back a couple months later and asked about the claim because I had not heard anything since that day and they just told me "ya he filed the claim and we paid him." I have looked at my MVR report from the DMV about 3 times since the accident and my record is clean. I wasnt aware at the time that I was supposed to report accidents to the DMV in CALIFORNIA that have damage over 750 dollars. The DMV says if you don't then your license will be suspended. Should I report it now? Or was this so long ago that I don't have to worry anymore. Im an honest person and I did the right thing by telling my insurance the truth. Also I changed insurance companies a year ago and asked my new agent if they saw an accident on my record and they said no as well. My insurance has never gone up since the claim either.-
ANSWER:
No, don't report anything. If your insurance company paid the claim, the issue is resolved, case closed. The other person is satisfied and has no claim against you. Leave well enough alone. Reporting the incident now would only cause you trouble and possibly points against your driving record.

QUESTION:
no fault car accident, what to do?
Someone backed up to get into a meter parking spot and didn't see us and hit the side of our car.
This was a commercial van but probably used for personal because it was Sunday.
There is about 10" deep scratch and dent on the passenger side door.
They may want to pay directly without going thru insurance but it depends on the repair cost.
We are going to get a quote today. We called a cop immediately. Now, what is the best way for us to deal with this issue?
Should we involve insurance company (GEICO) or deal with them directly?
We haven't reported our insurance company yet. I heard our premium may increase and deductible may apply (this, I don't understand) even though we had zero fault.
Some said that we need to report insurance company as soon as an accident happens otherwise they may refuse to pay us. This happened on Sunday and police report won't be ready until Wednesday (tomorrow) so we have one day to decide, I hope.
Please advice what we should do. Thank you!!!-
ANSWER:
It's your choice. You can settle privately or through the insurance.
As for your own insurance, yes, you are required to notify them. You don't have to settle with them, but your policy states that you must report this. If you were to choose to settle with your insurance, your deductible does apply. A deductible is not a penalty, it's the portion of your loss that you agreed to pay, when you signed your policy contract. You do not have one day to decide, you can take a little time to make the decision
